AU where FF15 is good but FF7 is really bad

15 was so so close to being good and understanding what made VII/IX/whatever work. Like, they looked at it and went, “roadtrip friendships. Got it.” And then just threw in exactly that without actually writing any of the stuff that would normally go with a friendship or a road trip. 

Like, have you ever read a fic where five chapters in, a couple just kinda turns up? And not even one of the well-established couples, either – some off the wall shit where the characters don’t even know the other exists in canon. And the author just dumps this on you out of the blue, and then proceeds to act as though of course this pairing makes sense, and thus doesn’t explain a goddamn thing about what’s going on as they continue to exchange sweet nothings and pecks on the cheek as though nothing is out of the ordinary. You, not giving a rat’s ass about ships in general and having clicked on the fic in the first place for its premise, try not to let it concern you too much, but as the ship starts eating up more and more screentime, you start getting a little frustrated that you’re not being given anything to justify it. And I don’t mean justify as in “BUT IN EPISODE 30 IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT BUTTERCAT/SENTIENT COFFEE FILTER WAS CANON, EVERYONE KNOWS HE VIEWS CRABCAKE-KUN AS A SIBLING FIGURE” nonsense, I mean justify as in, since this relationship’s kind of whipped up wholecloth, how did these people meet? What drew them to one another? How did they realise they loved one another? (And no, “her smile lit up the whole room and they knew she was the one” does not fucking count.) The whole point of shipping with something like this is to explore all these what-if questions and actually getting to directly create this dynamic themselves. Why would you make the ship and then not do that? What are you even doing at this point? Just slapping two people together for the aesthetic? That could have been interesting, why are you avoiding what seems to be your own premise? Maybe I wanted to see what led up to all this, XxX_stephanie_ff_luvver38_XxX! Maybe I wanted the dirt on Buttercat/Empty Gum Wrapper-san and its development within the context of the story! Did you ever think of that? Huh? 

Final Fantasy XV is like this, but for an entire game. 

They go to the trouble of writing these four guys implied to have a lot of history with each other that led to them being as close as they are, but that’s just it – it’s only ever implied. It’s so much easier to just imply than it is to go through the trouble of having your protagonists meet, and grow fond of one another, and take the audience through an emotional arc with them as we see them change and grow with each other for the better, AKA all the good parts of seeing a cool friendship roadtrip. And it’s worse than it would be if it were just a fanfic, because if you have a well-established enough relationship, whether it was romantic or not, then at the very least there you can get away with not fleshing anything out, because whatever it’s Cloud and Zack, we know who they are and why they like each other, let’s fast-forward to the part where they’re making out. XV is an original property and everything that the audience is going to know about it is going to be in the game. You can’t fast-forward to the good part because there’s nothing to fast-forward from but a shitty-writing-because-this-game-was-in-development-for-over-a-decade-and-it-shows-shaped void. They sell their game on Friendship Roadtrip Back To The Basics, and then just skipped to the end result because they didn’t want to have to actually resolve any arcs that they started, because they couldn’t start any arcs, because aaaaa shit this game ships tomorrow and it’s already November and we’re two months overdue just push it out we’ll put the backstories in DLC they’ll never notice shhhhhh – and more importantly, because they’ve learned they don’t actually need to, because the fans are happy with basically whatever and have collectively switched off their quality relationship filters since they’re just gonna write fic filling in the blanks anyway. Just look at Crisis Core, or literally any Kingdom Hearts game after Chain of Memories. It has all the grand gestures and emotional beats of something important happening, with no actual payoff. Prompto’s “surprise I’m a clone now let’s never speak of this again” is the most egregious example of this, with Luna’s “romance” and Ignis going blind offscreen and being whatever about it being close contenders as well. All “ clever speshul plot bombshells”, no actual significance towards the characters themselves or even the narrative in general. And don’t even get me started on the female characters, you assholes had this figured out all the way back in FFV, this isn’t hard.

So basically what I’m saying is that Final Fanatsy XV was written by Steven Moffat OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Sephiroth - (FF7) my interpretation of him post-Nibelheim: a sane, arrogant, brilliant god and wreck of a person.

Lotor -  (Voltron Legendary Defender) See how high he is on my list? I have him in my ‘to cosplay’ list with not his name but with the text: “I HAVE SUCH A TYPE”. There is nothing about him that I don’t love.

Orochimaru (Naruto) His voice, his arrogance, the cheekbones, and the things he could do with that long tongue. 

Uchiha Itachi / Sasuke / Madara (Naruto) I’ve been trying to choose between these three for 10 years now) (I like the artwork interpretation of the Japanese fan-artist ‘Lily’ best.) 

^That is my hard-bargained top 5 in that order.  Now comes the rest. I still love them tons and tons, but not as much as the ones up ^there. 

Kisame (Naruto) (japanse voice actor) Terrifying face/reputation/fighting methods since he has no qualms with sawing someone’s legs off. But he would make the perfect father of a child. He is muscled, chatty, caring, thoughtful, loyal, sweet, protective and reliable. If I could bang him, I would not prick but punch holes in the condoms.

Skulduggery Pleasant (books by Derek Landy) ASREON DONT JUDGE ME. He is funny, powerful, reliable, cuttroat and has this dark edge that I really dig. 

Loki (as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) Anywhere in the timeline after he arrived on Earth. I like him under Thanos control, as I like him as ‘shit annoying little brother’. I like it when he is smug: “It buuurns, doesn’t it?” (Avengers) and when he is indignant: “We are not doing ‘get help’.” (Thor: Ragnarok) yet still plays along in the end. 

Oikawa (Haikyuu) because his killer volleyball serve is too sexy, as are his mood switches and his I’m gonna fuck you up-grin. He get to me every time. (Kageyama is also somewhat a fave.)

Lord Carden - Bloodlines (Character from my needs-a-rewrite novel series, Bloodlines. Yes, I want to bang an OC, but in my defence, Lilly also once mentioned wanting to bang him. My friend Jack did too. He is a mix between Iason and Kisame: cutthroat and sexy but best dad.)

I’m still in the process of trying to figure myself out. I have lived my life as a loner or as a quiet follower (because speaking up was often discouraged in my social circles). 

BUT

My younger brother recently pointed out to me that in almost every relationship there is a leader (the person who initiates plans and decides what and how) and a follower-guardian (who protects the leader from doing anything stupid, this person says “that’s not a good idea” and when they put their foot down it’s DOWN and the leader can do nothing but respect it.)

My brother told me that I’m a leader type: the person that initiates wild adventures. Not the follower-guardian. So OKAY, I’m a leader who thinks she is a follower? I don’t know if I’m sub or dom. 

There is this quote I’m trying to remember, said by either a gay guy or a powerful motherly woman who helps the girl-protagonist. An american production. Intonation is kind. Couldn’t find it with google. Goes something like this: 

“People won’t know whether they want to hate(/fight?) you, want to fuck (/sleep with) you or if they want to be you~

That’s the quote I want to put in here. 

What I usually fall for in a character:

Most of the characters I want to bang are calm, self-assured, don’t get worried fast, and are good at what they do. They firmly hold to a certain view of life. They can hold their own in a discussion. They are NEVER lazy, they are hardworking. They never have a nihilistic approach to life, they want to gain all they can get. They have an arrogance that tastes like honey to me. That cheeky, taunting, unimpressed, underhanded, self-assured, i-know-I’m-right, tone is a drug to me. Some examples are: - “Are you sure about that?” and - “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” and - “Is that the best you can do, Cloud?” and - “Foolish little brother, you’re not strong enough, ku ku ku…” That degrading tone that puts me on my place and him on a pedestal…! Yes, I find that finger-licking attractive. 

But I can never figure out if those tones appeal so much to me because they are spoken from a leader perspective as if to discipline a pet, or from a follower/guardian perspective that calmly undermines the leader’s bad idea. (”Sure Mr. King if you want to follow that route… but I’ll stay here and wait until you come back”)

My current running theory is that I’m a leader who thinks she’s a follower? I’ve not levelled up enough in life to decide where I am as a sexual partner as sub or dom or switch. I’ve been a service top/service dom to 2/3rds of my partners and in the 1/3rd of the occasions I did enjoy being sub but maybe that’s because I prioritised myself there. Usually I focus on my partner and aaaah I’m rambling RAMBLE RAMBLE. tl:dr; I need to get laaaid and figure this ouuuut with a person I truuuust.

Mai Valentine (Yu-Gi-Oh. But that says little,  I’ve had crushes on almost the entire cast. Mainly Seto Kaiba and Yami-Yugi.)

Victor (Yuri-on-Ice) when he wasn’t shown as a person with feelings but still had his idol status.

Riddick - but then again, who wouldn’t do Vin Diesel as Riddick? Especially the second movie.

Aranea (FF15) She was wonderful as a character but I am still salty she was a bit of a disappointment in the narrative, I expected she would be more involved in the narrative of the game.

V (from V for Vendetta the movie) - again the humour, dark past, power, reliability. I fall in love with him every time I watch the film. But I don’t know if I would do him with his mask off? I like the grandiose idea of him.

To summarize, I like murder + power + strong worldview + smug undermining comments + smirks.

I think it is curious that I only listed male characters in my top 10. It seems that I am not as bisexual as I thought, or that modern media fails in adequate female gender representation. I could not have been offered enough female characters of the Wonder Woman quality. Now I’ll post this answer before something glitches and I lose all I typed.

9: Man, there are so many NPCs. What constitutes an NPC??? Just someone you never take control of, or one of the background characters who isn’t an active role in the story??? fuck I don’t know. My first impression was the latter, so characters like Bugenhagen (from FF7, is Red XIII’s grandpa, has lots of knowledge) and Maechen (from FF10, also has lots of knowledge and lore to give out, and hey spoilers he’S ALSO AN UNSENT????). I like the NPCs that can tell me more about the world.

Currently I really dig Cor Leonis from FF15. He’s so cool. *v*

but according to the Final Fantasy wiki, which I just looked at to remember Maechen’s name, both definitions I just used are NPCs, so HEY GUESS WHAT MY FAVORITE IS Genesis Rhapsodos, from Crisis Core. He’s a roaring garbage fire, a literal Jrock star’s self-insert into FF7, but I love him so much haha. He’s a lot of fun I have adopted him as mine.

24: whoo okay job classes. I’ve played far less Final Fantasys with strict job classes (that seemed to have gone out with FF6, as much as those characters are technically locked into their classes), so like. I played the Tactics games and a little bit of the first five games. I always liked the Red mages. Being able to cast black and white magic is cool, and I always liked the aesthetic, and they can use swords sometimes. But if I had to choose one to be, I’d probably want to be a Monk or Archer or Elementalist. If there was a class with spears that wasn’t fully armored, I’d wanna be that. I like the distance of spears/poles/arrows, or I’d use my fists. I have no desire for the in between apparently!

fun fact though, I’ve taken fencing and kung fu classes.

59: Haha, oh man. I always come back to Sinnatious’s fics The Fifth Act and Beloved for quality Genesis characterization. Like, those fics are so quality for me as a FF7 fan. Cloud is written as this half-finished person, which is to say he never lets himself rest and is always thinking one or two steps ahead instead of planning for the actual future, and is trying his best to figure out who he is after all the Shit he’s been through... and oh my god in TFA his interactions with Sephiroth are so painful and so good I cannot get Enough of it. Also like, highkey, Genesis is beautiful and written The Best in these two fics as a flawed hothead character with his pride and ferocity over what he cares about, and his snark is A+, and whoops I ship Cloud and Genesis so hard now haha.

But Final Fantasy as a whole has a similar problem as Harry Potter does for me in that I wasn’t quite on the internet at the time I was first into them so I don’t have a plethora of fics to highlight here. And the ones I DO remember were from fanfiction.net, so the quality of them wasn’t exactly the best. I read False Advertising, by Mako Red Eyes, which got me shipping Valenwind something fierce. Why did I decide Valenwind would be my ship? Who knows haha. And there was a dumb high school AU fic that crossed over with p much every final fantasy and also kingdom hearts and Yuna may have given Seymour a blowjob??? it was Bad, from what I remember. I read so much fanfic trash lmao.

Favorite muse(s) you’ve written: Almost I have so many, but at the moment, Cid for canon muses, Cid Sophair. I love him as a character and how he interacts, I love his relationships and he is so much fun to play. They came a long way on tumblr, and Keaton was my very first blog and very soon Angelic, that was around 2013. 

What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): Aw geez where to begin? Well I got into the fandom through Ardyn, I was looking for fcs for my OC Angelic and came to looking through KG. And found the perfect fc on my bby, almost same hair color, messy wild hair style, dark clothes, scruffy and yet impish playfulness, made Ardyn my muse, fricken adored him from then on out, later got into Reggie, have his blog, and made him another fc. I loved playing Ardyn, but after well life went to shit again and got hate and stuff, and just lost interest in Reggie, so many people played them and I needed to get my mind off things and fast and as much as possible, rping helped a lot with that, and while playing FF15 and looking through things, watching people and interactions, Cid showed up. A muse never really used, and yet a old man that I fricken love and reminds me of one of my favorite FF characters FF7 Cid and after a point I was like, FUCK THAT I’LL TAKE THIS OLD MAN ON AS MINE! So I did, saw how little love he got, made it my job to give him as much love as possible, gifs, headcanons, posts, soon icons and pictures and shit. So proud of my old man bby. I love old men, love playing them. So much easier to rp then most characters.

What are your favorite aspects of your current muse: See above in fav character to rp. And to add, he is a underestimated character that didn’t get a lot of screen time and love till King’s Tale, the man a bloody hoot, took the stereotype Cid of FF and made a whole new fulfilling character.  And one that was very much needed in FF15, I don’t think it would even be close to the same without Cid, I think he did a lot of influence, even if it isn’t seen. He is a gruff old man that wouldn’t take shit from anyone, a worthy challenge for the upper class all mighty Ignis and Gladio, and their children Noctis and Prompto. Broke yer car, oh well, go and do what any person does and get the money by workin’ and pay us when yer ready. Need a upgrade on those toys of yers? Okay, but ya need to get these things first. Need a upgrade on that car? Well I can but it will cost ya like the rest. A person that got the royal system and got them as a person but also doesn’t baby feed them. But he will also open up his soft side when needed.

You see this very much in two parts, when Reggie dies and Noctis gets all mad and confused, like wth dad why? You can see how useless his friends could help him, help him get his old man, and you know who did? Cid, Cid was blunt with Noctis, he knew what Reggie was like, he knows the true side of Reggie that Noctis didn’t seem to get often, Noctis didn’t just learn more about his dad and looked up to him more and accepted it in a more healthy way,  you get that Noctis got some peace in that, that his father did honestly love him and was going to show it to death itself. Another part is Cor, when he beats himself up for not doing his job, no one was able to help him there, not that we see, until Cid spoke up. Cid again understood Reggie and Clarus, he got Cor, he and Cor were in similar boats, unable to help those they care for when most needed, alive longer then they both think they should. Cid did his speech, about what friendships, brothers, and family truly about, we see how much it didn’t just affect Noctis, but Prompto and Ignis and Gladio, you get the oh and ah and opps from their expressions and reactions, but I bet similar happened to Cor, I bet you thats was very much for Cor and that Cid wanted Cor to know, and the kids to learn from this, learn from each other, and stuff. Cid was a huge influence I think and an amazing person that took the little things and made them huge, I fricken love that even after everything, he still gives it his all and does so much for those around him.

What’s your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing: I honestly don’t know...When I was a kid I just wanted to, I wanted to write a spin off of this one game I loved, but soon it turned into books for my OC and later book series, later wrote fanfics and over time felled in love. Rping was a thing since I was a whee bean, and kept it with me, rping tumblr one of the few things I can still do most of the time, and keeps my mind more positive and hopeful and kept me away from things I shouldn’t think of. I want to be good at something, something I can be proud of and others be proud of my, and I love rping, love day dreaming, so yeah.

Favorite types of threads: Aw geez, depends on my mood, and Cid’s. We can do all sorts, but with Cid, if I had to choose, either fluff or crack, no one can pull off crack like Cid can, not the way he does it anyway, the man a trouble making imp that loves to stir things up from time to time, very much when younger, he loves pushing buttons. And fluff, mainly because how influential he is to others, and how much of a father figure or brother or more he is to others. Like here is this old mechanic hermit like dude in the middle of no where, and how many and who sees him for comfort or advice or peace, even love? Honestly think he gets the most in game and rp. Well from if you count how many different people that is, King to  shaped up restaurant owner thanks to Cid. Seriously man what you been doing for thirty years?

The biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: Speech style and background hands down. Here’s the thing about his speech, hands down Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama like style, but when you watch the cut scenes, the subtitles, you get the general goin’ and yer and ya and ya’ll like style, but the pain is how uneven and where he uses yer and ya, he doesn’t use those all the time and the general all southern accent. SO BLOODY CONFUSING AS HELL MAN, LIKE MAKE UP YER BLOODY MIND AND IF YOU LUCIS OR FRICKEN REDNECK HOT DAMN! XDDD And another is background, and here is why, besides King’s Tale and what he and Cindy and other say in FF15, pretty much got nothing on Cid and the other gang members and most characters in FF15, and being ocd and perfectionist, I don’t want to screw up his past, and how things happened between him and Reggie and how they met and shit. Also worried they may show those later at some point and if they do, opps. So yeah, I need to know more about my ol bois. I demand it, them and Ardyn...and more screen time for behemoths and cerberus.

Honestly, I'm kind of excited by the way Square is releasing FF7 remake. At first I heard they were going to do episode releases but lately I heard that's a fandom misunderstanding. They're releasing the game in parts. If so then I really like that. Instead of getting the whole game at once but a lot of DLC we'd have to buy or smaller episodes spread out. I think we're getting a whole several 30-60 hour games in order to include all the cut content from the original. I'd love to get a -

2 FF7 trilogy of sorts that covers everything. Like a mirror to the original PS game having 3 discs. Part one ends after Aerith dies. Part 2 around the time Cloud gives Meteor to Sephiroth. Part 3 covering everything else to the end. I mean yeah we'll definitely most likely get DLC either way. That's the age we live in. But this way would totally satisfy the FF fan in me to look forward to this big story getting spread across as full games instead of dlc stuff (cough* FF15).

That’s... always what I thought episodic meant tbh?? People had been using Hitman as a comparaison to how ff7 remake was supposed to come out, so not the DLC formula we’e seen from FF15, but really an diea of “big, big campain each”. 

I’ve seen people dividing it from 3 to 7 parts as huge as the game would be, depending on how it goes, but yeah. The idea as far as I remember was that each part would further the story and would well, not come out all at once, and it wouldn’t be short DLCs, just long campains and yeah that could mirror the 3 CDs formula from the Original game. 

I think there would be DLCs eventually, personally i’d kinda like if they expends on the rest of the material with the DLCs? (like why the fuck Genesis is still alive by DoC. But that would open the whole can of worm of “do we all really want to see Genesis again”).

But as far as the parts go there’s good points in the story where to stop. For exemple I mean if you do with shorter episode you can do Midgar, then most of the thing sup to Nibelheim, then the rest of the disaster until Aerith’s death, then th whole part covering Meteor, then the rest ect....

But that also depends on how much they add to the story. For exemple I personally would really much like so that they dig back the Zack and Cloud’s scenes they wrote for CC but cut because apparently Genesis’s monologue needed more time. (*shakes fist to the sky*). I’ve heard that they had more plot about Yuffie and Wutai (especially with the recent Wutai war and the implications regarding Shinra) that they had to cut from the OG and would like to expend in the Remake. And personally i’m taking everything. It might get into a trainwreck but the more content I have of my favorite characters the happier I am. Besides I can select which parts of canon I focus the most on with ff7 so even if they screw things up I’ll be chill, i think. I hope. 

But yeah personally i’m not very scared of the episodic formula since i’ve never seen it as DLCs in a sense of “5 hours of new content” or something, I’ve always took the Episodic nature in each part being very long, covering a lot of the plot and of the new stuff they want to show in.

As long as they don’t pull a bullshit of like “part 1 is on PS4, part 2 will be on PS5″ or something, I understand the need to cut the story in order to relive it completely and I would be very curious on what they develop. 

So I guess we’ll see? :3c
