I can't tell you how many Top Gun Maverick graphics and moodboards I've seen that make me laugh because they include these pictures or ones very similar.
BECAUSE, Y'ALL.
Those are the Thunderbirds.
The AIR FORCE demo team who fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
For Top Gun Maverick graphics and moodboards, you want these guys.
The Blue Angels
They're the Navy's demo team who fly the F-18 Super Hornet.
The exact same plane they fly in the movie (fun fact: it was a Blue Angel Super Hornet that did the actual fly over above Admiral Cain we see Darkstar do in the movie).
Now, the two teams do fly together on occasion. But please make note of two differences besides the obvious paint schemes.
1) The F-16 has one tail fin while the F-18 has two and 2) The F-18 is way bigger than the F-16.
Also a reminder that the Navy does NOT fly the F-22 Raptor (that is Air Force only).

Ok time to introduce one of my OCs
Meet Nathan "Strike" Grayson. Yes, he is the jet who is the S/O of Dusty.
Model: F/A-18F Super hornet
Age: Early or mid 30's
Gender: Male, he/him
Birthdate: December 19th
Nationality: American
Sexuality: Bisexual
Current S/O: Dusty crophopper
Occupation: Fighter jet in the US Navy, works with Squadron "Jolly wrenches", VF-103.
Physical:-
Eye color: Dark green (changed recently)
Marks: Spot on his left side
Designs: Lightning bolt stripe on both sides under canopy, which was formally yellow, changed after he started dating Dusty. He has 2 stripes on both his wings as well.
Generally about him:-
Strike has pretty much always been a social and curious jet. He enjoys goofing from time to time and is seen as a confident, capable, and dedicated fighter. He's also one who quickly adapts to new changes or people. However, those who know him long enough, would know that he's often good at hiding his emotions. It usually takes him a while to open up to people. Along with that he can get really stubborn.
It was his curious nature to get to know more about the cropduster-turned-racer, and his social nature and politeness that really got Dusty and him talking every time Dusty visited the carrier. Eventually, it went from becoming good friends to more than just that.
Fun fact, he earned his callsign after an incident of being struck by lightning during training. His guilty pleasure is literally singing. He just enjoys it but doesn't like to show it lol.

NASA F-15B N836NA and F/A-18B N867NA by Mark Allison

A break-to-land by two of NASA's fast jets after the pair performed a sonic boom demonstration at the Aerospace Valley Airshow 2022. NASA's F-15B pictured here is the oldest F-15 still flying, delivered to the USAF in 1974 as 74-0141, before being delivered to NASA in 1993. -15/10/2022
