i really wished the second movie and the franchise as a whole had delved a little deeper into the implication that clear was empathic, at least towards alex. she felt his panic before he voiced it, she felt the signs but couldn't see them like he did... couldn't accept them like he did.

until the second movie, then she's practically a master in interpreting the signs (thanks to alex and all their time together) but there's no mention of what she said to him in her art garage. her being able to feel his fear and believe it, believe him, is the reason she survived until fd2 in the first place. and yet! nothing!

wouldn't it have been an interesting spin if empaths and visionaries were a package deal? with every disaster, there's always one and the other? two sides of a psychic coin coming together to try to cheat death? how different would fd2 had gone if clear could feel kimberly? i doubt clear would've died if she was allowed to remain an empath, she would've felt kimberly start to panic and run away from eugene's room back to her to see what was wrong. the explosion would have missed her! then she would have been a final survivor with kimberly and burke! guys!

final destination characters and what movie/tv shows i think they would like

alex - the walking dead. has seen every single episode even though it’s been running for over a decade. says he could probably survive a zombie apocalypse. is the biggest glenn defender ever.

tod - community. 100%. when the movie got announced he went apeshit on twitter. he loves troy, has seen every episode at least twice, and actually liked the fourth season for some reason.

george - he doesn’t watch tv unless it’s like a sport. look at him. if he had to pick, brooklyn 99.

clear - shameless. she sat through all eleven seasons, would have watch parties with her friends, and liked to take notes on the psyche of the characters. she HATED frank with a passion and loved fiona. actually cried at both finales.

billy - my babysitters a vampire. claims it was his “childhood” and is still upset they ended it on a cliffhanger. rory def rubbed off on him growing up. he prefers the first season to the second but has seen each episode like a million times. will sing the theme song totally unprompted

rory - he also likes breaking bad, but he’s more into better call saul. saul goodman is HIM. literally so relatable and babygirl. he saw better call saul first, so when he showed up in s2 of brba he went APESHIT

eugene - abbott elementary because there is “finally” a REAL show about what it’s like to be a teacher. he also never gets into sitcoms so it was a shock for him that he liked it so much

nora - bones. she LOVES crime dramas on daytime television, and bones is no exception. she finds herself trying to figure out the twist every single episode. she also gets way too into the characters. (tim was explaining to her that bones was autistic coded and she went :o)

tim - kid LOOKS like henry danger, but i’m gonna say malcom in the middle. secretly wished for a big family growing up. alex told him that the father makes meth and since tim didn’t know about brba he was actively seeking out that plot line.

kat - the office. not in like, a “basic” way or anything but because she is a businesswoman and needs to feel included. she likes pam a lot. wanted dwight to die once. she got through about eight seasons before calling it quits.

Evan: Hes basically just normal Rory but a little boring.

Tim: I don't think I've ever really seen Rory sober before. I'd imagine he'd be a little less...weird? I don't know.

Just realized a big bug in Final Destination 2.

The order of events for 1 is Tod, Terry, Val, Carter (skipped), Billy, Clear (skipped), Alex (skipped to Carter).

The order of 2 is Evan, Tim, Nora, Kat, Rory, Eugene, Thomas, Kim.

Now, if the backwards order was correct, the corretalions should be

Tod - Evan,

Terry - Tim and Nora,

Val - Kat,

Carter - Rory,

Billy - Eugene,

Alex and eventually Clear - Thomas and Kim.

(Not counting the Brian × Rory interaction that was solved)

And yeah, we get confirmed that Rory was present when Carter was LeMiro81ed (though it was on Alex).

But

Kat says she didn't reach the leaking gas house because the bus smashed Terry;

Eugene was supposed to be substitute for Val;

Thomas was picking up the remains of Billy Hitchcock.

EARL BOSTIC, LE SAXOPHONISTE QUI EN AVAIT REMONTRÉ À CHARLIE PARKER

Né le 25 avril 1913 à Tulsa, en Oklahoma, Eugene Earl Bostic avait commencé à jouer de la clarinette à l’école et du saxophone avec la troupe locale des Scouts.

Très influencé par Sidney Bechet, Bostic avait amorcé sa carrière professionnelle à l’âge de dix-huit ans en jouant du saxophone alto avec les Twelve Clouds of Joy de Terence Holder. Il s’était également produit avec Fate Marable sur les navires à vapeur qui faisaient la navette sur le Mississippi. Bostic avait aussi joué avec des groupes locaux avec qui il avait fait la tournée du sud-est des États-Unis et du Midwest au début des années 1930.

Les premiers solos de Bostic étaient très influencés par Benny Carter. Bostic avait aussi été très marqué par la musique classique européenne, le bebop et la musique de son Oklahoma natale.

DÉBUTS DE CARRIÈRE

Diplômé de la Xavier University à La Nouvelle-Orléans,  Bostic s’était produit avec de grands noms du jazz dès le début de sa carrière. Parmi ceux-ci, on remarquait Arnett Cobb, Oran ‘’Hot Lips'' Page, Rex Stewart, Don Byas, Charlie Christian, Thelonious Monk, Edgar Hayes et Cab Calloway. En 1938 et 1944, Bostic avait dirigé le groupe-maison du célèbre club Smalls Paradise de Harlem. Durant son séjour au club, Bostic avait également ajouté la guitare et la trompette à son arsenal.

Après s’être installé à New York en 1938, Bostic avait commencé à se faire un nom en jouant avec les orchestres de Cab Calloway et Don Redman. Il avait également commencé à diriger ses propres groupes dans les clubs. Bostic avait fait ses débuts sur disque le 12 octobre 1939 dans le cadre d’une session dirigée par Lionel Hampton à Manhattan. Le groupe de Hampton comprenait alors de grands noms du jazz comme Henry “Red” Allen à la trompette, J.C. Higginbotham au trombone, Charlie Christian à la guitare électrique, Clyde Hart au piano et ‘’Big Sid’’ Catlett à la batterie.

Dans les années 1940, Bostic avait participé au célèbres jam sessions du Monroe¹s Uptown House et du Minton's Playhouse, qui avaient marqué la fondation du bebop. Selon le saxophoniste alto Lou Donaldson qui avait assisté à une jam session de Bostic avec Charlie Parker au Minton's Playhouse, Bostic avait joué avec tellement d’énergie qu’il avait laissé Bird complètement épuisé. Décrivant Bostic comme ‘’the greatest saxophone player I ever knew’’, Donaldson avait expliqué: ‘’Bostic was down at Minton's and Charlie Parker came in there. They played 'Sweet Georgia Brown' or something and he gave Charlie Parker a saxophone lesson. Now you'd see him, we'd run up there and think that we're going to blow him out, and he'd make you look like a fool. Cause he'd play three octaves, louder, stronger and faster." Penchant dans le même sens, le batteur Art Blakey avait commenté: "Nobody knew more about the saxophone than Bostic, I mean technically, and that includes Bird. En plus d’avoir joué avec Charlie Parker, Bostic avait également organisé ses propres jam sessions.

Vers 1943, Bostic s’était joint au big band de Lionel Hampton avec qui il était parti en tournée durant la célèbre grève de l’Union des musiciens qui avait limité les possibilités d’enregistrer avec les grands studios. Lorsque l’interdiction avait été levée en mars 1944, Bostic avait participé à deux célèbres sessions avec Hampton. La première session avait permis l’enregistrement de la pièce “Flying Home No. 2” mettant en vedette le saxophoniste ténor Arnett Cobb et le trompettiste Cat Anderson. La seconde session comprenait un enregistrement destiné aux soldats sur le front (les célèbres ‘’V-discs’’). Après avoir quitté Hampton pour se joindre au groupe de d’Oran ‘’Hot Lips’’ Page, Bostic avait joué du saxophone alto sur une session de Page qui mettait en vedette les saxophonistes ténor Ben Webster, Don Byas et Ike Quebec. Dans le cadre de cette session, Bostic s’était particulièrement illustré en se produisant en solo sur les pièces Good for Stompin” et “Blooey.”

Après avoir formé son propre groupe, Bostic avait dirigé la première session de sa carrière en novembre 1945 avec les disques Majestic. Avaient également participé à l’enregistrement Benny Harris à la trompette, Benny Morton au trombone, Don Byas au saxophone ténor, Tiny Grimes à la guitare et Cozy Cole à la batterie. Même si quatre pièces avaient été enregistrées au cours de la session, aucune n’avait remporté un grand succès. Bostic avait continué d’enregistrer avec le groupe de Page jusqu’en 1946.

DERNIÈRES ANNÉES

Après avoir signé un contrat avec les disques Gotham en 1946, Bostic s’était tourné vers le Rhythm & blues et avait connu un grand succès avec sa version de la chanson “Tippin’ In” d’Erskine Hawkins qui avait été enregistrée en mars de la même année. Lors de cette même session, Bostic avait également enregistré sa propre version du standard “Liza.” Au cours de sa carrière, Bostic avait d’ailleurs remporté beaucoup de succès en reprenant des standards comme "You Go to My Head", ‘’Night and Day’’ et "Cherokee".

En juillet 1946, avait enregistré “Jumpin’ Jack”, une pièce dans laquelle il s’était produit au chant, un peu à la manière de Louis Jordan. Plusieurs des enregistrements de Bostic avec les disques Gotham s’apparentaient d’ailleurs au style de Jordan, notamment dans le cadre de pièces comme “That’s the Groovy Thing,” “Let’s Ball Tonight” et “Cuttin’ Out.” Le trompettiste de Bostic, Roger Jones, agissait aussi souvent comme chanteur dans le cadre des balades du groupe.

En 1947, Bostic avait fait une apparition au cinéma avec son groupe dans le cadre d’un film tourné avec une distribution entièrement de couleur. Intitulé ‘’I Ain¹t Gonna Open That Door’’, le film mettait en vedette l’ancienne chanteuse de Duke Ellington, Joya Sherrill.

1948 avait été une année importante pour Bostic, qui avait enregistré une pièce appelée “840 Stomp” dans laquelle il avait joué avec un style tellement doux qu’on aurait presque cru qu’il se produisait à la clarinette. Dans le cadre de la même session, Bostic avait également repris la chanson “Temptation’’ qui avait été un grand succès de Bing Crosby en 1934. La chanson avait éventuellement été le plus grand succès de la carrière de Bostic après s’être classée dans le Top 10 du palmarès R & B à l’été 1948.

C’est alors que les disques King avaient racheté le contrat de Bostic avec les disques Gotham. Avec les disques King, Bostic était devenu un artiste de premier plan qui rejoignait une clientèle diversifiée tant dans les domaines du R & B, des combos avec orgue, la musique pour big band que du jazz et de la musique pop. Les albums de Bostic s’étaient tellement bien vendus que les disques King avaient même racheté les bandes maîtresses qu’il avait réalisées avec les disques Gotham pour les rééditer plus tard.

Au cours de son séjour chez les disques King, Bostic avait publié plus de quatre-vingt 45-tours, 63 simples, 11 longs-jeux sur dix pouces et environ vingt-cinq albums, dont neuf avaient été publiés en 1959 seulement. La plupart de ces albums comprenaient de nouvelles versions de standards adaptées à la sauce rock n’ roll comme “Night and Day” qui avaient donné un nouveau souffle à sa carrière.

Probablement sous l’influence de sa collaboration avec Lionel Hampton, Bostic avait recruté le vibraphoniste Gene Redd pour venir jouer avec son groupe en 1950. À partir de cette date, presque tous les albums de Bostic avaient inclus un vibraphoniste. Redd était demeuré avec le groupe jusqu’en 1958, lorsqu’il était devenu producteur et dépisteur pour les disques King. Même s’il ne faisait plus officiellement partie du groupe, Redd se joignait souvent à Bostic dans le cadre des sessions d’enregistrement.

Le dévouement des disques King envers Bostic avait éventuellement fini par payer lorsque la reprise de sa chanson des années 1920 “Sleep” avait atteint la sixième position du Hit Parade. Bostic avait également remporté un grand succès en 1951 avec sa reprise de la chanson “Flamingo” qui avait atteint le sommet du palmarès R & B. Duke Ellington avait enregistré la chanson en 1941. En 1956, Bostic avait aussi eu un grand succès avec son interprétation du standard "Where or When".

Bostic, qui admettait lui-même être d’abord intéressé à vendre des albums, était même allé jusqu’à transcrire ses propres solos afin de pouvoir les exécuter note par note devant ses admirateurs dans le cadre de ses concerts, ce qui ne l’avait pas empêché de se livrer à des improvisations endiablées lors de des performances. Toujours bien vêtu et articulé durant ses entrevues, Bostic avait la réputation d’accorder énormément d’attention à sa présentation et à son apparence. Showman accompli, Bostic avait même fait une apparition sur l’émission Soupy Sales TV Show dans laquelle il avait dansé le "Soupy Shuffle" mieux que Soupy tout en jouant du saxophone.

La virtuosité de Bostic était particulièrement évidente sur des albums comme "Up There in Orbit", "Earl's Imagination", "Apollo Theater Jump", "All On", "Artistry by Bostic", "Telestar Drive", "Liza", "Lady Be Good" et "Tiger Rag". Commentant la virtuosité de Bostic,  le producteur Victor Schonfield avait déclaré que le plus grand talent du saxophoniste ‘’was the way he communicated through his horn a triumphant joy in playing and being, much like Louis Armstrong and only a few others have done.’’ Capable de jouer des mélodies dans le registre altissimo de façon parfaite, Bostic pouvait jouer magnifiquement dans n’importe quelle clé et dans n’importe quel tempo. Qualifiant Bostic de meilleur technicien qu’il n’avait jamais entendu, le saxophoniste Benny Golson avait précisé: "He could start from the bottom of the horn and skip over notes, voicing it up the horn like a guitar would. He had circular breathing before I even knew what circular breathing was – we're talking about the early 50s. He had innumerable ways of playing one particular note. He could double tongue, triple tongue. It was incredible what he could do, and he helped me by showing me many technical things."

Vers le printemps de 1952, John Coltrane s’était joint au groupe d’enregistrement et de tournée de Bostic. Coltrane, qui avait énormément appris dans le cadre de sa collaboration avec Bostic, avait déclaré au cours d’une entrevue qu’il avait accordée au magazine Down Beat en 1960 que Bostic lui avait enseigné ‘’a lot of things on my horn. He has fabulous technical facilities on his instrument and knows many a trick." Lorsqu’on écoute soigneusement les accords et les solos de Bostic, on aperçoit d’ailleurs certains éléments du jeu de Coltrane. Quant au saxophoniste James Moody, il avait ajouté que Bostic ‘’knew his instrument inside out, back to front and upside down."

Le 7 juin 1953, Bostic s’était produit avec son groupe dans le cadre de la 9e édition de la Cavalcade du Jazz tenue au stade Wrigley Field deLos Angeles. Produit par Leon Hefflin, Sr., le concert mettait également en vedette Roy Brown and his Orchestra, Don Tosti and His Mexican Jazzmen, Shorty Rogers, le duo de Nat "King" Cole et Velma Middleton, ainsi que Louis Armstrong and his All Stars.

Au début des années 1950, Bostic s’était installé avec son épouse au Addisleigh Park de St. Albans, dans le Queens, dans un quartier habité par plusieurs autres vedettes du jazz. Victime d’une crise cardiaque, Bostic avait ralenti ses activités et était déménagé à Los Angeles, où il s’était concentré sur la composition et l’écriture d’arrangements. À Los Angeles, Bostic avait également ouvert un club de R & B connu sous le nom de Flying Fox. En 1951, Bostic avait d’ailleurs fait une tournée avec la chanteuse Dinah Washington sur le circuit R & B.

Élu deuxième meilleur saxophoniste alto dans le cadre d’un sondage du magazine Playboy en février 1959, Bostic avait devancé au classement des sommités comme Cannonball Adderley et Sonny Stitt. La même année, Bostic avait d’ailleurs enregistré une version mémorable du classique "All The Things You Are" sur l’étiquette de disques du magazine. En août 1959, Bostic s’était également produit au Playboy Jazz Festival de Chicago avec les plus grandes vedettes de jazz de l’époque.

À travers les années, plusieurs grands noms du jazz avaient fait partie des groupes de Bostic, dont Keter Betts, Jaki Byard, Benny Carter, John Coltrane, Teddy Edwards, Benny Golson, Blue Mitchell, Tony Scott, Cliff Smalls, Sir Charles Thompson, Teddy Charles et les frères Stanley Turrentine et Tommy Turrentine. Dans les années 1950, lorsque Bostic avait enregistré à Los Angeles, il avait eu recours à d’excellents musiciens de studio comme Earl Palmer, Benny Carter, Barney Kessel, Teddy Edwards, Rene Hall, Roy Porter et Ernie Freeman.

Excellent arrangeur, Bostic avait aussi écrit des arrangements pour Paul Whiteman, Louis Prima, Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, Artie Shaw, Hot Lips Page, Jack Teagarden, Ina Ray Hutton et Alvino Rey. C’est d’ailleurs Bostic qui avait composé la chanson “Let Me Off Uptown” qui était devenue un des grands succès de l’orchestre de Gene Krupa en 1941 avec Roy Eldridge à la trompette et Anita O’Day au chant. Le chanteur Louis Prima avait également remporté un grand succès avec la chanson “Brooklyn Bridge” à l’instar d’Alvino Rey pour la composition de Bostic intitulée “The Major and the Minor.” Bostic avait aussi conn un grand succès avec la pièce "Brooklyn Boogie", qui mettait en vedette Prima avec les membres de l’équipe de baseball des Dodgers de Brooklyn.

En 1963, Bostic avait enregistré deux albums typiquement jazz dans les studios de World Pacific à Hollywood. Intitulés ‘’California: Jazz as I Feel It’’ et ‘’A New Sound’’, les deux albums avaient été enregistrés avec une formation composée de Richard “Groove” Holmes à l’orgue, de Joe Pass à la guitare, du contrebassiste Al McKibbon et des batteurs Earl Palmer et Shelly Manne. Excellent exemple de formation orgue-saxophone, le groupe avait permis à Bostic de démontrer une facette peu connue de sa personnalité, plus particulièrement sur les pièces dépassant la durée de trois minutes fixée pour les enregistrements sur 45-tours. Ces albums qui avaient permis au saxophoniste de démontrer sa grande maîtrise du blues, lui avaient aussi fourni l’occasion d’illustrer son talent d’innovateur, annonçant ainsi le travail ultérieur de musiciens comme John Coltrane et Eric Dolphy. Les compositions de Bostic intitulées "The Major and the Minor" and "Earl's Imagination"  témoignaient également de sa grande connaissance de l’harmonie.

Pour Bostic, l’improvisation avait toujours été étroitement liée au blues. Comme Bostic l’avait expliqué dans le cadre d’une enrevue qu’il avait accordée à Kurt Mohr: "Of course I am maybe one of the few musicians who like simple recurring melody patterns and in all my playing I try to keep a basic melody line in my mind and attempt to develop meaningful inversions and variations... I like the basic blues... The blues has it all; basic rhythmic quality, genuine lyric content,essential and basic chord structure and maybe above all else, personality. Blues and jazz are inseparable."

À la fin des années 1950, Bostic avait été victime d’une attaque qui l’avait contraint à ralentir le rythme de ses activités. Bostic est mort d’une crise cardiaque durant une tournée à Rochester, dans l’État de New York, le 28 octobre 1965. Bostic avait été inhumé au Southern California's Inglewood Park Cemetery le 2 novembre suivant. Parmi les porteurs honoraires du cercueil de Bostic, on remarquait Slappy White et Louis Prima. Bostic repose aujourd’hui près d’une plaque sur laquelle est représentée l’image d’un saxophone et où est inscrit son nom, ses dates de naissance et de décès. La plaque est située près de la dépouille d’autres grands noms du jazz comme Chet Baker, Ray Charles et Ella Fitzgerald. La chanteuse était d’ailleurs née exactement quatre ans après Bostic.

Environ un an après sa mort, les disques Philips avaient fait paraître un album inédit de ballades de Bostic intitulé ‘’The Song Is NOT Ended.’’ Earl Bostic a été intronisé au sein du Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame en 1993. 

Saxophoniste souvent incompris et sous-estimé, Bostic avait été représenté à la fois comme un artiste commercial, un saxophoniste de R & B et un musicien de jazz. Avec ses nombreux succès au Hit Parade, Bostic était devenu un des premiers artistes de jazz à avoir démontré que les instrumentaux pouvaient atteindre les sommets du palmarès. Des saxophonistes comme Boots Randolph et Stanley Turrentine avaient d’ailleurs reconnu plus tard que Bostic les avaient énormément influencés dans leur cheminement.

Musicien au style diversifié, Bostic était également un remarquable technicien et improvosateur. Sur ses enregistrements, Bostic avait un des sons les plus facilement identifiables de l’histoire du jazz, à l’image de sommités comme Charlie Parker, John Coltrane et Johnny Hodges. Bostic maîtrisait tellement son instrument qu’il en avait même réussi à en remontrer à des virtuoses comme Parker et Coltrane. Malheureusement, il n’avait jamais obtenu la reconnaissance qu’il aurait normalement dû mériter.
