About the true meaning of the name “Ethiopia”:

Why are Ethiopians known as “burnt faces”?
Thanks for the request.
The translation ‘burnt face' is inaccurate and unquestioningly dismissed within truly Ethiopian circles. You based your question on false premises.
Contrary to what many assume, the word ‘Ethiopia' is not derived from the Greek language. It is derived from Ge'ez (ancient Ethiopic), and from the older Sabawi language.
The Amharic word ‘Ethiopia' is a shortened version of the Ge'ez Ethiop-Ghion(ኢትዮጵግዮን) . The Ge'ez word Ethiop-Ghion itself is congruent with the Sabawi (Ag'azian) word ‘Enqopazeyon' (እንቆጳዝዮን).
Therefore, the first and accurate name of the country we today call 'Ethiopia' is Ethiop-Ghion.
Now, what do 'Enqopazeyon' or the Ge'ez ‘Ethiop-Ghion' mean, and why was the country named so? That is the question I can answer.
'Ethiopia' means ‘The present of yellow gold from Ghion river'. Ghion is the true name of the river which today's non-Ethiopians call the Nile.
Ethiopia is a gift of yellow gold; the gold you see today on the banks of the Nile river.
The accurate derivation is as follows:
“Et”/ ኢት= Present/Gift.
“Yop”/ዮጵ= Gold.
“Ghion”/ግዮን= The Nile river.
The final answer for your question, which ai modified for your benefit, will finally become the the following:
The words Ethiop-Ghion and Enqopazeyon both mean to denote the geographic features of the country and a spiritual quality. These two (geographical features and spiritual essence) are the major themes behind her name.
Remember:
not “Burnt face”. but,
“Gift of yellow Gold, and specifically the type of gold on the banks of the Nile river” is the only accurate translation.

Addis Ababa. I just like saying that name. Kind of like the first time I had a job in Kuala Lumpur. Or Shangri-la - some places just sound more exotic and fantastical. Had a long layover so hit the streets with 100$, camera, ten hours and my hotel address. Ended up riding the shared ride vans all around town all day. 1.5 whatever’s a ride, the equivalent of about 4 cents. Squish as many humans as possible into a van. I think we hit 23 in one. Jump in one that sounds like it’s destination sounds interesting. Merkato is always a win, can’t go wrong. And happened upon the Ghion hotels African Jazz club where Mulatu Astatke plays every Thursday night at 21:00 - sadly I couldn’t stay. He was the first Ethio jazz musician that I knew of by name and was responsible for leading me down a glorious and never ending rabbit hole of further want and discovery obsession and intrigue to the sounds of Ethiopia. I was surprised it was temperate temperatures. Sad and narrow minded of me, but you have a single picture vision index card filed in your visual reference brain when you hear a places name. Mine was not fir trees and mountains, rather flies in childs eyes and bloated bellies. Time capsule somewhat akin to cold Cuba architecturally but with way more late model Toyota Corolla. Drank a coffee that I’m still wired too 9000 miles later. (at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)

Ethiopia Adventure Travel Tips
In November 2010 my better half and I went around Ethiopia for three weeks by open transport with a private guide. Travel Tips Travel (particularly transport travel) is a genuine experience and not for the timid as there is long travel days (much more if the transport separates) on ineffectively looked after streets. In any case, it is a fantastic approach to get very close and experience the life and culture of local people.
Addis Ababa
We landed at the airplane terminal at 3.30am. We had not booked any convenience because of our initial entry so we remained at the airplane terminal till around 7am. A taxi consented to take us into the city for USD$10. We went to the Ras Hotel where we needed to hold up till 9am to check whether they had a room.
Travel Tip: We remained at the Ras Hotel 3 times because of its focal area. The cost incorporates breakfast which is terrible however lunch and supper are great.
Bahir Dar
We remained at the Ghion Hotel on Lake Tana and did a vessel journey to the islands to see the painted holy places. The Blue Nile Falls range is pretty yet not worth the long uneven ride to arrive. Travel Tips Since damming the waterway, the waterfalls are absolutely not at all like the blurbs appear.
Travel Tip: Check if a guide is incorporated with your Lake Tana watercraft journey. There was 9 of us on our pontoon. No guide went with us on the vessel aside from our private guide Samson. The main island we went by Samson went about as intrepreter else we would have not comprehended what we were taking a gander at. The second island we went to the congregation control communicated in English.
Gonder
The deserted mansions are extremely intriguing and it merits contracting the aides inside the door.
Travel Tip: We remained at the Belgez Pension which was shabby, perfect and calm however the rooms were little and cramped. Travel Tips They do your washing for a little charge - provide for the cleaners in the morning.
Simien Mountains
We did a one day 4WD day trip with another voyager and our guide Samson.
Travel Tip: We would have gotten a kick out of the chance to have remained overnight despite the fact that we are not trekkers, as the landscape is staggering.
Lalibela
We burned through 2 evenings in Lalibela investigating the astounding rock houses of worship.
Travel Tip: Keep your passageway ticket convenient as they will be checked at each congregation entrance.
Arba Minch
Arba Minch is an overnight transport stop between Addis Ababa and Jinka.
Travel Tip: Spend an additional night on one of the stopovers and do the lake visit.
Jinka
We procured a 4WD locally to visit the principle 3 tribes in the region (Mersi, Hamer and Karo tribes). We imparted this cost to 3 different explorers who were on the transport and remained at an indistinguishable settlement from us.
Travel Tip: Buy your transport ticket to Addis Ababa ahead of schedule (no less than 1 day ahead of time) so you can acquire a superior seat number else you will get yourself stuck at the back of the transport on the 2 day travel. Purchase great ear plugs with the goal that you can shut out the commotion of the uproarious music recordings playing.
Transport
We utilized an assortment of transport that included: open transport, minivan, 4WD and pontoon.
Travel Tip: If you find that many of you are heading a similar way, it will be more efficient and agreeable to lease a minivan and driver as we did from Bahar Dar to Gondar (7 individuals).
Visit Guide
We utilized the administrations of a private guide. This was the first occasion when we have employed a guide for the whole outing through another nation. The guide demonstrated important in keeping the touts away (justified regardless of the cash alone), managing nearby visit administrators and acquiring inns.
Travel Tip: Use a private guide's broad information and experience to appreciate Ethiopia through the eyes of a neighborhood.
