Honestly I am still equal parts impressed and amused that REO Speedwagon's 1981 hit Take It In The Run is one of the best models for how to healthily address conversations about infidelity in contemporary(ish) pop culture.
Heard is from a friend who/Heard it from a friend who/Heard it from another you been messin' around
Establishes the conversation topic as well as why the topic is on the singer's mind
They say you got a boyfriend/You're out late every weekend/They're talkin' about you and it's bringin' me down
Details of the behavior that is causing the singer concern and the impact those rumors are having on his emotions
But I know the neighborhood/And talk is cheap when the story is good/And thr tales grow taller on down the line
Establishes that the singer recognizes the fallibility of rumor and is not immediately accusing his partner of cheating
But I'm telling you babe/That I don't think it's true babe
Establishes that the singer is willing to trust his partner in spite of people's talk
And even if it is keep this in mind
Denotes that a (potentially difficult) boundary conversation is about to be begun
You take it on the run baby/If that's the way you want it baby/Then I don't want you around
Clearly states the singer's personal boundaries - he acknowledges his partner's full agency to pursue whatever dynamics they wish, while unequivocally stating that if those dynamics include infidelity then he will not continue being in a relationship with them
I don't believe it/Not for a minute/You're under the gun/So you take it on the run
Reaffirms previous statements that the singer sees the rumors as only rumors unless they're proven otherwise, and also reaffirms the singer's firm relationship boundary
And like...this kind of clear and non-confrontational conversational framework is the sort of conflict resolution style most people have to be coached on to do well. The person from whose POV Take It On the Run is sung from has an unexpectedly mature approach toward talking about relationship conflicts.

My favorite thing about deep blue something is that the guys in that band look nothing like the kind of people you would expect to perform deep blue something's music

Like, tell me this isn't a 2004 nu-metal band

'Santería' (Sublime) into 'Let It Go' (Frozen) into 'Peaches' (Presidents...) is one HELL of a balls-out music transition, especially on a retail long weekend. 🫡

O Holy Night, as performed by Steve Mauldin
It's been hard to feel festive this year, but this song has been a family tradition for at least 14 years and parts of it still make me howl (phrasing intentional) with laughter
"You know it was... divine"

Anyone have recommendations for good crazy songs? So far I've got Crazy by Seal and Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Crazy Train is acknowledged but not currently in consideration. (this is not just a request for info drops about songs called crazy or with crazy in the title - I'm considering making a playlist)

Could you imagine being Bob Dylan's kid and instead of coasting on that reputation you have the brass balls to go out and write one of the defining alt-rock songs of the 90s

New life gila goal (I liked that typo too much to remove it)
- Become pro musician
- Get famous enough for radio play
- Create only lyrics with non-FCC language, requiring censorship for every track (F the CC, amirite?)
- Adamantly insist on a contract clause with my studio that radio edits be bowdlerised differently based on region
- Don't tell anyone; let fans figure out how deep the rabbit hole goes on their own
- During live shows, get audience to sing along w/their local edit for maximum chaos
- Peace and **** on planet earth <3

I love listening to Van Morrison because I don't hear his music very often at all so sometimes a song will come up that I haven't even thought about in YEARS and it's like that one Mario meme

When I was a young boy
My father told me to pet the kitty
To pet it with my hands
He said “son, when you grow up
Will you be provider of kibble
And wet food from a can?”

Aww yeah, that's pretty great
my half-sleep brain just invented a song, assigned it to memory as a Genesis track, generated a fully instrumented clip from the chorus, and played it on loop like a secret earworm a few times
Fuck chatgpt and machine learning algorithms - this is way better than anything they could've come up with (plus I got to have ~exclusive access~ to Genesis' newest single)
