Actually going insane over the implications of Jason asking Dick to be the Robin to his Batman in Battle for the Cowl.
Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it's a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.
But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he's not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He's asking Dick to be his Robin.
And they both know exactly what Jason means: "Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. "
He's saying "Be 'Robin'; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn't clipped my wings."
He's saying "I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don't have to be. If Batman is Gotham's curse, Robin has always been its blessing. I will be the brutal punishment to our world, and I am asking you to be its incandescent gift."
He's saying, "Be for me, what we were for Him. Be my anchor, my comfort, my hope. Remind me what it's all for, why it's all worth it. And remind yourself as well."
He's saying "Be 'Robin' again--for both of our sakes."

“You said you’ve done this procedure before, multiple times in fact. So why would we need to do it again?” Lucy questioned, twisting her spinny chair to look at Olivia. In response, Oliva, peered up from her clipboard, before setting it down. The two were in her lab, dimmed by the late afternoon, and the lack of lights. Oliva slowly put down her clipboard, sighing as she walked over to where Lucy was sat by the main desk.
The desk itself was quite cluttered, though the middle was cleared out, except for one contraption. Set in the middle, it contained a small dish of cells, something that has been in Olivia’s lab for quite some time.
“Well,” Olivia started, “These specimens do something special, I’m sure you would love to see,” She explained simply. She picked up a small vile, filled with a clear liquid. Lucy watched intently, placing her hands on the back of the chair as she propped herself up to watch. Olivia paused, glancing at Lucy before speaking once more.
“Hand me that flask and dropper over there, will you?” Olivia motioned to the items, both of which were on the main desk, in which Lucy was stationed at. Lucy glanced at the items, the anticipation clear. Olivia raised an eyebrow, pursing her lips as she noted this.
“It’s not going to implode on impact, Luce,” Olivia told her, to which Lucy sighed, giving in to her request. When she got the flask and dropper, Lucy pushed off one of the legs of the desk, moving her chair over to Olivia. “Trust me, you’ll love it!” She smiled, seemingly excited to do this specific demonstration.
Taking this into account, Lucy finally gave in, “Here you go then,” she sighed, reaching her hand with the vial up to Olivia. In all honesty, she was just cautious, but she watches intently as Olivia transfers some liquid into the dropper. Lucy’s eyes widened in curiosity as Olivia looked over at her.
“Shut off the lights, will you?” The doctor asked, motioning her head towards the light switch. Lucy nodded her head, before getting off the chair and doing as told. With the room significantly dimmed, Olivia finished setting up the chemicals for the specimen trail. She beckoned Lucy over, setting down the flask as she hovered the dropper over the cell specimen dish. Standing next to Olivia, Lucy watched as Olivia glanced over at her, the doctor barely even pausing before she finally squeezed the dropper.
It was a small amount of chemicals, landing straight into the dish. Olivia set down the dropper, before straightening back up. The room was dim, the faintest of light seeping through the blinds covering the windows. Lucy pursed her lips, unsure of what was meant to happen as she looked at the doctor. Olivia watched the cell dish intensely, so Lucy did as well, diverting her gaze back to the small specimen. It seemed clear that something was going to happen, but Lucy just didn’t know what. For the countless amount of experiments she has seen Olivia carry out, no one procedure was as quiet as this one. Compared to the abundance of loud, explosion and excitement filled experiments, this one seemed almost eerie.
For a while, the air felt dense, filled with tension of uncertainty to Lucy. Though, it all seemed to seep away as a dull glow was barely visible. Lucy’s eyes widened in surprise and curiosity as she leaned forward, towards the small cell dish. Olivia smiled softly, slowly reaching for the dropper and bringing it over the specimen. With another small squeeze, more chemicals landed onto the cells, and they quickly reacted, with the glow’s intensity growing.
It became clear that the cells seemed to be bioluminescent, and showed their light when reacting to the chemical concoction that Olivia had cultivated. By now, the cell dish was filled with the specimen emitting a blue light which bathed the room. Gone was the feeling of uncertainty, now filled with simplistic serenity. Olivia looked over at Lucy, wondering how she felt about this experiment. Her assistant was glued to the glowing specimen, her eyes wide as she stared. It was a simple chemical reaction experiment, but the result was always fascinating.
Olivia has seen and done this procedure many times, but still liked to do it just for the display. Yet, she has never done it with another person around. Seeing Lucy bathed in the blue light made Olivia’s gaze soften as she looked at her, noting how much she seemed to be enamored by this. She also noted how she had similar specimens, that would produce something similar to the bioluminescence of these cells.
Olivia grinned to herself, knowing that she would surely make a full day of showing them to Lucy, brimming with excitement to see all her lovely reactions.

made myself mad again thinking about writers who Miss The Point and how Bane was only on venom for like ~6 months in the comics but some writers decided it's his whole personality and he's just an Arkham Roid Rhino even though he passed the vibe check and didn't even go to Arkham even though his attorney begged him to plead insanity and go because he wouldn't face charges and he said absolutely not they're my crimes they're my charges they caught me slippin and that's on me and then not only stayed OFF of venom for the remainder of the pre-reboot comics but also actively destroyed networks that developed and distributed it, and then directly because of Batman's repeated radical compassion, dedicated his life to doing what he believed was right (even if it still involved murder) and actively protecting people he believed were innocent and helping people he thought needed help. Because he promised Batman he would do better. BeCAUSE OF BATMAN SHOWING HIM THAT WAS AN OPTION.
