One of the people on chilled's team is one of the top mc event players (places an average of 1st in a very similar event) and a lot of people are ranking the team higher bc of him (he is also new to this event though so people are not placing the team as high as they would otherwise)

Right and I get that. And granted idk how good Oli and Kara typically do, or how much one players point count can affect the entire team's placement.

But I mean. This is Chilledchaos we're talking about. Team TIES consists of people who play minecraft for a living.

I don't know if you've heard, but Chilled said yes to participating in this event despite not even knowing what type of competition it is. He has absolutely no clue what happens in MCC. I watched this man ask chat what the second C stood for. I watched him look at his calendar live on stream and put his hands on his head in distress as he goes "It's in eight days?!"

So yeah y'know I wonder if it can really make enough of a difference that they breach last place. Red can do okay point wise but it means nothing if the other teams do even slightly better cuz all 4 of them know how to play the game.

I think another reason MCC lost its edge for competitive players and they stopped preparing as much is because of team comp.

Mcc admins are so focused on balancing that theyll make weird teams where half play the event for fun and now the competitive player feels like they have to carry. Which places so much pressure on them that MCC stops being fun because they end every event feeling like shit for not winning. On the opposite, people who don't take it that seriously feel like shit because they know their teammate(s) are gonna be stressed as fuck the entire time and it's not enjoyable. I think having one for fun player on a team full of competitive players is fine, but the inverse isn't. Either way, the admins treat for fun players as nerfs without thinking about player experience and it shows with how many of the top players have stopped seriously preparing for mcc.

Theres also a note to be made that whenever MCC refers to for fun players, they're always men/amab and the reason theyre team nerfs is because of their play styles. While women/afab people exist in a weird space where it's clear MCC thinks they're shit players (with the exception of a few like hannah) and that's why they're used as nerfs. I'm not surprised that several afab have stopped playing when they're used as nerfs and then ripped apart by the reddit for existing, and the MCC admins just do not give a fuck about the atmosphere they cultivated

do not get me started on how tina was treated in that tournament i would kill for her

but aside there is definelty an option on the signup sheet for competitive/non-competititive but we still get very... odd teams sometimes dream/foolish/connor/tina was v weird and perhaps the biggest nerf in history (<- not down to any single individual just that the other three had each only played about 1/2 times and 2 had gotten bottom 35 each time) and i think perhaps as well as s-tiers thinking they have to carry its also the other teammates fearing theyre dragging them down.

i know niki and tina both felt like that and its stopped them from competing in it.
