comparison between various shorter dolls, original barbie body for the reference. also showing possible hybrids.
from left to right:
mtm original body barbie
marvel rising ms. marvel with a barbie head (neck peg isn’t compatible)
petite barbie
creatable world doll with a barbie head
lol omg doll
failfix doll
snapstar doll with mattel spirit doll head (neck peg needs to be altered)
dream ella extra iconic mini doll
barbie extra mini with mattel spirit doll head
created this reference pic because i like bodytype/height variety and because i want to eventually make some gnome/halflings characters. other dolls that are short but aren’t toddlers/small kids i know of but don’t have are mattel cave club and mga lol tweens.
other notes: mattel spirit dolls are compatible with barbie extra minis out of the box and they even might have matching skintones. lol omg have their cartoony instagram baddie bodytype but they look most similar in size to curvy failfix doll (afaik failfix have different bodytypes too and maybe one is even a little bit taller?). and umm sorry abt two dolls being faceless, i haven’t got around to repainting them (again).

Everything from the dream ella doll fit on Lilac except for the shoes. Sleeves on the jacket are a little long but not too bad
The shoes are a decent fit on curvy barbies. They are a little awkward on this barbie extra because she doesn't have ankle articulation.

I got one out of curiosity and cause I like her outfit. Lots of hair product to wash out, unfinished edges on the sleeves and skirt, no wrist/ankle articulation but that's in competition with Barbie Extra Minis. These aren't so much mini as mid-size, I think. Good for a preteen-early teen type body.

So like, obviously Dream Ella as a line leaves much to be desired. But I was just looking at the Dream Ella Extra Iconic Minis, which I assume are meant to be counterparts/competitors for Barbie Extra Minis, and, just…
Barbie minis:
Dream Ella minis:
Dream Ellas are half an inch taller. Their proportions are better, their faces are better, their clothes are better. I was thinking about getting the white one to use as a body donor for my endless supply of damaged Dawn dolls, but she’s too pretty to decapitate.

My recent Post Christmas Amazon Pick ups:
- a Dream Ella Extra Iconic Aria doll, as she's super cute, I adore dolls with pink hair, and with her pink hair & heart shades she's literally just me (Carly) as a doll. She's also incredibly gorgeous in person like omg.
- The Hori Fighting Commander Octa fight pad for PS4/PS5
- an HDMI Splitter so I can Stream my PS3 (I don't stream as often as I'd like to but hopefully that can change soon)

wondering what kind of doll would be a good base for making a fantasy type dwarf character...

Let's be honest. She's a fashion pack.
I know MGA can serve a face so the flat face ups on these dolls is very confusing to me.
Made even worse by comparison to the cute face in the artwork.

I love them so much. Will take off clothes to see bodies, do comparisons with my other 6” dolls, etc, later.
