Dirk Bogarde was a British actor, novelist and screenwriter who during the 1950's and early 60's was consistently voted one of the top ten most popular and international stars by British film exhibitors. He met Anthony Forwood when they acted together in 1952. In 1956 Forwood retired from acting and became Bogardes "manager". The couple lived together for nearly 40 years until Forwoods death in 1988.
Bogarde starred in the movie 1961 movie Victim, the first British film to explicitly name homosexuality and deal with it sympathetically,
