Does Jesse James Haunt the Talbott Tavern?
Here's a real slice of Americana, and a severely spook-ridden one to boot. The Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, built in 1779, is the oldest stagecoach-stop tavern and hotel in the United States. This building was well known as a must-visit place for anyone who happened to be passing through the area. Because of its central location at the junction of major stagecoach dirt roads, it was visited by practically everyone who traveled cross-country or to the frontier.
The main tavern area is preserved, looking as it did then, with only a few modifications and modernizations. Everyone from presidents to kings to outlaws made camp here: Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, William Henry Harrison, King Louis-Phillippe of France, Jesse James, Daniel Boone, and many more.
Although Jesse James's ghost is claimed by some to walk these halls, we see no reason to believe that he should haunt a tavern just because he used to drink here. Ghostly activity predates his death, and in fact, James himself may have been a paranormal experience at the tavern. One night he claimed that he saw the murals painted on the walls of an upstairs room coming to life, and in his panic he shot the walls full of holes. Then again, he may just have been hallucinating on a bad batch of bourbon.
Ghosts of children have been prevalent here over the years, as well as ghosts of mysterious old men in antiquated clothing and of a woman said to be a suicide victim. She hung herself with a rope suspended from the main tavern's chandelier. Although that chandelier, which once held candles, has been retrofitted with electricity, it is still in use today.
The eerie upstairs hallways have been so many ghost sightings that the staff have become accustomed to them. Manager Jonathan Mattingly noted one guest who complained about the children laughing and running in and out of the room next door. "I had to break it to him that there were other guests in the hotel that night," says Mattingly, "and certainly no children in the building." A small display in the upstairs foyer alerts guests to the potential for such hauntings, so caveat emptor: Don't ring the front deck if you hear the pitter-patter of little (dead) feet.
Aside from the woman who took her own life, who's responsible for all these spirits shuffling around the tavern? Although it's almost a certainly that people died of illnesses and were murdered on the premises in the violent and chaotic frontier days of the eighteenth century, the most likely answer lies within two nearby buildings.
The McLean House
This handsome old circa-1812 brick building was once a post office and also a hospital that no doubt saw a lot of suffering, pain, and death, especially during the Civil War. Today it's a bed-and-breakfast.
The Jail's Inn
The city jail was conveniently located right next door to the tavern, and nowadays you can sleep here too. The structures of the jail cells have been left in their rustic and grim state, but fixed up somewhat and made into a very unusual inn. Original jailhouse graffiti still exists in some spots (including an elaborately painted winning poker hand). There's definitely a frightening and oppressive air to the building. You can't forget that you're in a jailhouse where so many troubled souls lived and died over the span of two centuries. The Jailer's Inn is owned and operated by a local attorney who's happy to give tours to the curious. Like the Talbott Tavern, the inn is increasingly popular for "ghost tourism."
A fire broke out upstairs of the Talbott Tavern in 1998, and destroyed the old wall murals that Jesse James shot with lead. Though the paintings may be ruined, the bullet holes are still there in the wall f or all to see. It has been speculated that the fire could have been supernatural as well. Renovations are still ongoing, but whoever is working there will usually be glad to take you up to what is now called the Jesse James Room for a peek at the outlaw's handiwork.

Kenton-Hunt Farm (Simon Kenton Inn)
4690 Urbana Rd.
Springfield, OH 45502
Kenton-Hunt Farm is located at 4690 Urbana Rd. in Moorefield Township, Clark County, north of Springfield, OH. Much of the surroundings have changed since Simon Kenton roamed over 50,000 acres with the Shawnee, Tecumseh, and Daniel Boone. Deeded to him by the US Government, the Simon Kenton farm became the first white settlement in Ohio. Simon’s cabin was situated adjacent to where the old Spring House still stands. A historical marker is all that remains today. There are many legends as to why Simon chose this land, but the truth has been clouded by myth and superstition.
Simon lost his land by the early 1800s due to financial misfortune, and it passed to Samuel McCord. Kenton’s daughter Sally married into the McCord family. As the land changed hands it was divided and redivided. The Hunt family of Princeton, NJ moved here in 1823 and built the current Federal Style Home and Spring House in 1828. Over the years his property continued to be divided and sold, and its buildings fell into disrepair. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 8, 1980. On a dark and rainy December night in 2004, an experienced entrepreneur, Theresa R. Siejack, heeded the call and drove up the driveway by the derelict old house situated on a hilly 4.5 acre remnant of the original property.
Immediately drawn to the land and recognizing its inherent potential, Theresa eagerly returned the next day, and after several more visits, negotiated a purchase contract. Six months after sinking her entire life savings into the required major renovations, she opened her fourth Bed and Breakfast in her 21 years of public service. Now known as the Simon Kenton Inn, it has become a focal point for visitors that come far and wide to enjoy her renowned hospitality. The Inn and its beautifully manicured grounds are a favorite hot spot for parties, weddings, reunions, and other major life events. After opening, Theresa’s dream quickly became a gathering place for the local community. Following her passion, and encouraged by the community, she began a $1 million expansion project that added a pub, restaurant, additional guest rooms, and 18 additional acres in April 2009. Theresa added a party pavilion for up to 500 guests in the spring of 2010.
The spirits that inhabit this land welcome visitors and remind them that this is sacred land and an Indian burial area. While walking the land late at night, one can still hear the howl of coyotes and sense the presence of the spirits who still dwell here – the very same spirits that drew this talented woman who answered the call to return the property to its once cherished glory in service to the community and sanctuary for travelers. Who knows if anyone may even bump into Simon and his friend Tecumseh who watch over this cherished land and the beginning of Theresa’s legacy.

As an English Christian name, Noah has been used since the Protestant Reformation, being common among the Puritans. In the United States it was not overly popular in the 19th and 20th centuries, but it began slowly growing in the 1970s. The Ghost of Jesse James
The Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky was built in the 1700s. Located in Court Square it has always provided food and shelter for travelers.
Past famous guests that stayed at this inn include: A young Abraham Lincoln and his family, Daniel Boone and the exiled French King Louis Phillipe.
Bullet holes in a faded painting and along one wall in the Talbott were put there when Jesse James supposedly shot his gun in the tavern.
A lot of paranormal activity has been reported at the Talbott. Furniture moves, shadows are seen and phantom music is heard playing.
One apparition seen at the inn is said to be Jesse James’ ghost. I share another location where his ghost is seen here.
A bookkeeper that works at the Talbott encountered his ghost one night as she went upstairs to place money in the safe. She and a cook were the only two people in the inn at this time.
As she walked up the stairs, she was startled when she saw a stranger standing on the landing. He was wearing a long white duster–coat.
She hesitated as he walked across the top landing. The cook joined her on the stairs for he had also seen the stranger. They both went upstairs and saw this man walk in a door to their right.
As they entered this room they saw him walk out the back door. They then saw him walk down a hall to a fire escape door, which was locked. He disappeared through this door.
They unlocked this door and saw him looking up at them from the fire escape. He laughed and vanished in front of them.
A month later this bookkeeper was watching a television show when they showed a picture of Jesse James. She grabbed her husband’s arm and told him that he was the ghost she had seen at the inn.
Since, two other employees at the tavern have seen the ghost of Jesse James walking down various hallways in this building.
Another ghost seen at the Talbott is a Lady in White. Two guests awoke to see her floating over their bed. She looked down at them and then went out the window.
They were so frightened they left the inn in the middle of the night.
Another witness, an employee at the tavern states she has seen the Lady in White walk through the Audubon Dinning Room on several occasions.
She described this ghost as thin, with long wavy brown hair and dressed in a 1800s style white dress.
Today, the Talbott Tavern is run as a Bed and Breakfast. This inn hosts one of Kentucky’s oldest Bourbon Bars.

An Unexpected Encounter
“The brain is considered to be the primary generator and regulator of emotions; however, afferent signals originating throughout the body are detected by the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and brainstem, and, in turn, can modulate emotional processes.”[1] There were blue patches between the clouds as the sunrise sought to find a hole through which to shine. As my footsteps reached the landing…

Moving To Boone, North Carolina
Daniel Boone (1734 – 1820), the famous American frontiersman, was born in a Quaker settlement in Pennsylvania. His family moved to the Yadkin Valley area of what is now Davie County, NC, near Mocksville, in 1750. Boone became a “long hunter,” and frequented the High Country on his hunting expeditions through the 1750’s until his first trip to the Kentucky area in 1767. An area north of Boone is called “Meat Camp” after his hunting camp. His wife and children continued to live in NC until their permanent move to Boone’s Station, KY in 1779. His extended family continued to live in NC and left many descendants in the High Country area.
Boone, town, seat of Watauga county, northwestern North Carolina, U.S. It is situated atop the Blue Ridge Mountains at an elevation of 3,266 feet (995 metres) near the Tennessee border. On the Daniel Boone Trail at the fork of the Wilderness Road, the settlement was incorporated in 1871 and named for Boone, the pioneer who, according to tradition, camped there while on a hunting trip.
Avoiding Troublesome Creek, which had plagued previous travelers along the route, Boone's group crossed the Clinch River (near what is now Speers Ferry, Virginia) and followed Stock Creek, crossed Powell Mountain through Kane's Gap and headed into the Powell River Valley.
Americans and Europeans alike devoured romantic tales by Filson and other authors about Boone traversing dangerous wilderness, fending off attacks by wild animals and savages while pushing forth to unknown land, despite the fanciful nature of these stories.
Thinking about relocating to the Western North Carolina region? As trees grow each year, Christmas tree farmers have several important tasks: scouting for insects that may damage the trees, shearing the trees to achieve an attractive shape, and maintaining the nutrient levels in the surrounding soil and plant tissue for optimal growth.
Tourist attractions: Fun 'n' Wheels Inc (Amusement & Theme Parks; 2788 Highway 105), Boone Bowling Center (Amusement & Theme Parks; 261 Boone Heights Drive), High Country Host (1700 Blowing Rock Road), Boone Convention & Visitors Bureau (208 Howard Street), Count Charles Christopher Adkins- Esq.
Outdoor adventure is one of the largest attractions in the area. There are numerous hiking trails, whitewater rafting areas, and fishing spots throughout the mountains surrounding the town. You may also consider visiting Grandfather Mountain, which features local wildlife, a museum, and a mile high swinging bridge. Boone even has its own golf course, Boone Golf Club, if that is more your speed. Winter sports are also very common in this area of the mountains. There are five large resorts just a short drive from Boone with facilities for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and ice skating. More information can be found at Boone Convention and Visitors Bureau and Explore Boone.
n downtown Boone and within a short walk of the University you can find Café Portofino, Vidalia, The Local, The Red Onion Café, Capone's Pizza, The Daniel Boone Inn, Black Cat Burrito, Boone Bagelry, Our Daily Bread, Murphy's, Proper, Macado's, Boone Saloon, Jimmy John's, Stick Boy Bread Co., Mellow Mushroom, and Hob Nob Café.
An earlier survey of Boons gave the elevation as 3,332 ft and since then it has been published as having an elevation of 3,333 ft (1,016 m). Boone has the highest elevation of any town of its size (over 10,000 population) east of the Mississippi River As such, Boone features, depending on the isotherm used, a oceanic climate ( Köppen Cfb), or a humid continental climate (Köppen Dfb), a rarity for the Southeastern United States, and straddles the boundary between USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B and 7A; the elevation also results in enhanced precipitation, with 52.7 inches (1,340 mm) of average annual precipitation.
Boone North Carolina has always been a big draw especially for those who love the out doors open air and abundant pristine wilderness, Romantic Christmas getaways  are hugely popular as well. If you looking for that cabin home in the woods well Boone is the place to be . Boone has seen a steady rise in population as reported by many Long Distance Moving Companies over the past decade.

The fundamental dvd winner "Sideways" set the limelight on California's Santa Ynez Valley, the best option for travelers wanting fabulous vistas, culture-group wines and, now, dvd sites that you'll think of coming from a movie.
It is deemed an idyllic and pastoral location of small but effective residential areas, and ranchesevidently, numerous dozen wine makers which were spread out for a tremendously beautiful country. The movie Sideways, which comes after two or three midst-older guys because they uncover the charms of this zone and so the truths of the being, gained fabulous accolades as a humor/dilemma but, surprisingly, further, it turned out to be an efficient travelogue. comprar aceite de oliva
That's not been forfeited located on the Santa Barbara Readers and Discussion Bureau, which rushed to printing making use of comprehensive color brochure distributing users a roadmap of recording locales just for the film - a convenient report just for the picture-goers smitten with this ambiance so masterfully mentioned in movie's cinematography. From information, plenty of people have, truth be told, focused the location for vacations or saturdays and sundays and it's consistently perhaps the most common web pages to figure out users drawing out their special, eco friendly for-sized Sideways pamphlets to evaluate their bearings while searching for one more establishment used in the shooting inside the motion picture.
There has been a little bit of overkill, as indicated by some regional occupants. Numerous disgruntled local residents reported which the commuter traffic delivered to metropolis through video would have been a 2x-edged sword - good for commercial enterprise, bad for the area's paths. But not only have already been paths developing stopped up through size inside the movie's demand however, many say people were developing clogged with people a wee touch tipsy from all that wine beverage-tasting. The Television express Inside of Model was just recently in the city going over the various fuss.
Significant ado about there is nothing the results of the majority of residents, who have been pleased to be aware of the room get nationwide publicity finally get a hold of its rightful put on the holidays road map. Within the our March travel to it for sure didn't seem to be too crowded but, nonetheless, we had been there midweek and one will ideally anticipate weekends is actually solely various kinds of.
Like other users, we grabbed our Sideways brochure and went on a scavenger hunt of sorts, exploring out spots in Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Solvang and Buelton which were featured noticeably in video. There was the Days Inn Buellton which is where A long way and Jack remained and so the car park which is where Stephanie beats on some-timing Jack. Or how about A.J. Spurs, the american-designed eating venue which is where Jack complies with his person-day take a position, Cami. Had to begin to see the Sanford Winery, which is where Mls teaches Jack the basic principles of vino sampling and, evidently, Fess Parker Winery the location where the web server refuses to offer Distance the complete glass of red wine so he guzzles the spit pail as an alternative.
Totally you will discover 19 Sideways sites detailed located on the chart, all genuinely identifiable coming from a movie. Some regions also have the unshakable Sideways brand released to their signs lest individuals not discover that their a number of commercial enterprise or establishment will stay in dvd infamy.
Program business also figured into said to be the two areas we stayed in the Santa Barbara Wines Area. Mid-period persons won't have any problems recalling the identity Fess Parker, who cornered the sector back into the 50's and 60's for coonskin-capped, buckskin-wearing flick mountain / hill many men. You bear in mind Parker as Daniel Boone if you're a certain years. You try to remember him as Davy Crockett, a best body inside constant of Disney world Television characters back in the days of the Wonderful Arena of Disney, if you're older than you wish nearly everybody to recognise.
Not known to the majority users, you can check out in this particular person-time Television icon on the majority of Thursday times at Fess Parker's Wines Land Inn in Los Olivos. The inn's invitees are encouraged to become a part of Parker for almost any handshake, a window of wine beverages and perhaps even some music leisure. These statement-of-oral cavity gatherings ensure that it is really difficult often times to choose a vacancy from the inn on Thursday night.

Checking out the Greenway Trail is one of the best ways to appreciate Boone’s natural beauty. Through a variety of environments, including rolling meadows and lush woodlands, this greenway connects one side of the city to the other as it meanders along the New River. The trail is mainly flat and filled with early Daniel Boone historical monuments, making it a wonderful activity for families. The Watauga County Recreation Complex or the close-by Clawson Burnley Park are two convenient entry points to the route in Downtown Boone. You can easily find hotels in Downtown Boone, NC. Choose Country Inn Suites Boone, NC for better comfort and relaxation.

Bits and Pieces   The National Road  7/28/19
Interstate 80 under President Eisenhower was the first ocean-to-ocean highway in the United States. But it wasn’t the first conceived national highway.
As our country was forming Daniel Boone plotted the first road funded by land speculators into the new territory. It was called the Wilderness Road.
Jefferson and Washington saw a need for a National Road leading into the center of the United States. At that time Ohio was the center, but Jefferson was looking at the Louisiana Territory to purchase.
This first stretch of The Old National Road (sometimes called The Cumberland Road) extended from Baltimore, Maryland to Wheeling, West Virginia on the Ohio River.

Though Boone’s road was privately funded, maintenance and continued infrastructure weren’t kept up. So, the U.S. Congress budgeted $30,000 for the building and the supervising of The National Road.
Part of the issue with maintaining these early roads was the ruts made by the heavy wagons. The National Road used a new process called “macadam.” It created a very solid foundation using broken stones. Though labor intensive (broken by sledgehammers and laid with rakes and shovels) then rolled with an iron roller, it was made to last. (Cass County Road Commission could take notes for Lawrence Road.)
In the 1830s, Congress transferred part of the responsibility of the road to the states through which it ran. The states built tollgates and tollhouses (inns), and the federal government continued to maintain and repair the road. The Cumberland Road, the National Road, the National Pike – whichever you want to call it was the first federally funded and sponsored highway.
By 1848, the Old National Road extended to Vandalia, Illinois – just shy of Saint Louis, Missouri on the Mississippi River.

By now the country was becoming more interested in a transcontinental railroad. Wagons and stagecoaches were slow, dusty and expensive. Funding for The National Road was not renewed.
To continue the concept of a national road, the remainder of the “highway” used the old Santa Fe trail and is today called National Old Trails Road.
Tumblr media
As new generations look to by-ways off the interstate for more relaxing travel, the National Scenic Byway offers an historic path of classic inns, tollhouses, stretches of old pavement, etc.
One nearby National Road historic inn east of Indianapolis is the Huddleston Farmhouse Inn, in Mount Auburn, Indiana. It’s a restored landmark open to the public.

MY CHARLOTTESVILLE — WITH DANIEL WENDELL OF AUTOMOTIVE AESTHETIC
Tumblr media
We’re pleased to present another installment in our “My Cville” series, where you get to know the people behind the businesses — and what they love —about our town.
Name: Daniel Wendell
Title: Owner of Automotive Aesthetic
What brought you to Charlottesville? I grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, which is Hokie territory. But all it took was one acceptance email to this lifelong Hokie to turn a 180 — Wahoowa. While UVA and my education are what brought me to Charlottesville in 2013, I stayed for many other reasons too. Having also lived in Roanoke, Kalispell/Whitefish (Montana), and Boone (North Carolina), Charlottesville’s intimate culture, community and small-town vibe kept me here.
Now for a list of favorites...
Cars: For a town this size, our car scene and history are very rich. There are a lot of odd, fanatical car folks hidden away in these parts — my people.
Favorite thing about the town: This town is very different than most other towns of its size. Colleges of the same caliber as UVA are typically in larger areas, and I feel very lucky to have found this gem. At the heart of this community are the people. Here, everyone is diverse, and everyone has his or her own awesome story of why he or she call C’Ville home.
Season: My favorite season is probably winter, but that could just be the fact that I’m really enjoying winter right now. Plus, playing in the snow is a passion of mine. Nevertheless, the cold is bitter, and my business does seem to take a slight downward tick. However, this allows my staff and I to try to take a breath.
Neighborhood: Right now, I’m enjoying my apartment on the Mall. However, I fantasize of one day owning a small carriage house in Keswick or out Ivy, with a shop dedicated exclusively to my personal Porsche restoration projects. A boy can dream…
Place for a drink: A couple years ago my answer would have been Crozet Pizza at Buddhist Biker Bar, likely because most of my friends in college worked there. As I have become older however, and stepped away from the UVA corner, I have become quite fond of Continental Divide. I guess I didn’t stray too far from the corner.
For a special night out: Anything barbecued
For comfort food: Tip Top’s massive menu and all-day breakfast have always been very appealing.
Hang out: Cars and Coffee, the first and third Saturday of every month, in the Barracks Road parking lot.
International cuisine: Maru Korean restaurant, located on the Mall, has absolutely amazing food.
Coffee shop: Mariebette is always a favorite, but often times I find myself stopping in at Mudhouse on my way to work for a quick croissant and shot of espresso.
Event in the area: Lighting of the Lawn…L.O.T.L. has always been a special experience for me.
Day trip: Any day trip that involves taking an empty trailer to a far-off, remote destination and returning with car that his been hidden in a barn for many years.
Place to take a dip: Ever since the The Scout Guide launch party last year, I’ve been thinking how nice it would be to swim in the pool at the Clifton Inn.
Winery: Pippin Hill is pretty magnificent.
Brewery: My favorite local brewery is Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen & Brewery. I absolutely love the architecture of IX Art Park and a Porsche Restoration Shop within a Brewery always gets me thinking…beer and Porsches seems like a winning combo to me.
Clothes: Men’s and Boy’s Shop. My dad owned a men’s clothing store in Roanoke for 40 years. When I moved to C’ville, my dad gave me some leftover fixtures to take to “the old guy with a store on the mall.” The years have been tough on small haberdashers like Mike, but luckily he’s been able to stick around! I like to support those types of stores when I can.
Gear: One of my passions is snowboarding, and Freestyle is the only local choice! Good people and great service.
Music venue: The Jefferson will always be a favorite.
