The undeservedly forgotten Classic Tube Оverdrive DOD FX-53 guitar pedal DIY
My first impression was that I had finally assembled the best overdrive in my entire life. For the first time, a cheap Squier Bullet Mustang electric guitar with stock humbuckers sounded equally good with all the cabinets I usually simulate and switch between when testing a new pedal.
Tumblr media
Like my all-time favorite guitar, the semi-hollow-body Harley Benton TE-90QM with P90 pickups, this Squier Mustang can be called "moody." The beauty of its sound does not reveal itself with any overdrive or cabinet you pick at will. One must properly look for good-sounding gain and tone knobs positions.
Tumblr media
The 2011 Gibson Melody Maker Explorer behaves completely differently than most other Gibson guitars. A deep and clear sound with no unpleasant overtones and no excessive protrusion of certain frequencies is obtained with almost any equipment of "good enough" quality in a much more comprehensive range of tone and gain settings.
Tumblr media
Does wood affect the guitar tone?
It is common knowledge that the design of an electric guitar affects its sustain. The semi-hollow body transfers part of the strings' vibration energy to the air; the sustain is shortened, but the sound production nuances are emphasized, which is important for the blues.
Additionally, harmonics that make multi-layered chords with complex alterations sound ugly are also suppressed; this matters for various jazz styles.
A solid-body guitar retains the strings' vibrational energy, resulting in longer sustain. Even longer for a guitar with a glued set-in and, moreover, a set-through neck. But both the glued neck and, especially, the through neck soften the attack a little.
Tumblr media
That is why many bluesmen prefer a Stratocaster over a Les Paul. Rhythm guitarists tend to like bolt-on neck guitars, while lead guitarists pick set-in and set-through necks. Of course, this rule of thumb depends on the person; each musician does their own thing. It could be playing DJENT on a Telecaster with a single pickup, like Rick Beato.
Tumblr media
We are accustomed to the fact that a string is a stretched wire. But in a striking clock, the string is a metal rod, fixed on one side and not tensioned. The bass string in the clock is called "gong"; it can be very long and twisted like a spiral to fit into the case.
Tumblr media
The guitar's soundboard and neck combined are also very massive strings compared to the actual strings. And it's made of wood for the most part, so it is much less hard and dense than regular metal strings.
So, the Q-factor of the soundboard and neck oscillating system is much lower than that of strings. Meaning that the natural frequency vibrations of the guitar's neck and body decay much faster than the vibrations of the strings.
Therefore, wood has minimal effect on the actual sound timbre of an electric guitar. The signal passes through pickups, cables, pedals, an amplifier, a cabinet, and then a microphone with an equalizer; it's safe to say that wood does not affect the frequencies.
The sustain time of the body and neck's vibrations is much shorter than any noted time, but it is comparable to the attack time when one hits the string with a pick.
Very dense, hard, and heavy types of wood, such as rosewood, pao ferro, and ebony (listed in order of increasing density), respond to attack with a short, sharp snap. Thus, the wood of the fretboard emphasizes the attack.
Indian laurel wood, used for the fingerboard of the Squier Bullet Mustang, resembles rosewood in appearance but is softer. It can be compared to the roasted maple wood of the Gibson MM Explorer`s fretboard.
Mahogany's soft, relatively light, and moderately porous wood creates a longer, more profound, and softened response that hides shortcomings in sound production. The Gibson MM Explorer has a mahogany neck.
But if the guitar's neck and body are made of mahogany, the sound may be too dull, washed out, and mumbly. To add some brightness, maple wood is used. The Gibson Les Paul Standard has a top made of it, the LP Tribute has a neck, and the 2011 MM Explorer has a lightweight Canadian maple for its entire body.
The desired sound attack is achieved through such combinations of materials. It's not a tone but just the attack. But the attack carries the absolute maximum of musical information and allows one to distinguish one musical instrument from another.
The body of the Gibson MM Explorer is thin but long and made of Canadian maple. The Squier Bullet Mustang's body is also thin but made of basswood (other variants may have poplar).
Poplar, especially basswood, responds to attack more dully than Stratocaster's alder or Telecaster's ash but still louder, shorter, and less deep than mahogany. As a result, the raw sound of the Squier Mustang is less dramatic than that of the MM Explorer and does not hide the flaws in sound production nearly as well.
So, the wood used in making an electric guitar, as well as the material, gauge, and tension of the strings, frets, nut, bridge, and pick, not to mention the pickups, do matter and influence the audio signal produced. This sound character can make it more complicated or simplify getting the desired guitar tone using pedals, an amplifier, and a cabinet.
History of DOD pedals
Tumblr media
DOD was founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1973 and named after one of its two founders, David Oreste DiFrancesco. In the early 1990s, the company was purchased by Harman International Industries.
Tumblr media
Today, David runs his own company, Rolls Corporation, and produces audio equipment under the Rolls and Bellari brands. And DOD/DigiTech is now a subsidiary of Cor-Tek Corp., Seoul, South Korea. Yes, they make Cort guitars and also make musical instruments for Harley-Benton, Squier, and many others.
Tumblr media
And in this photo, the second founder of DOD, John Johnson, holds the most iconic and one of the first pedals of the company — the Overdrive Preamp 250.
Tumblr media
Very reminiscent of MXR Distortion+, right?
Tumblr media
Could it get any simpler? The signal is amplified by one op-amp, followed by a symmetrical hard clipping stage using a pair of germanium diodes.
Tumblr media
R1 and R2 split the supply voltage in half, forming a virtual ground. Tantalum capacitor C1 grounds it for alternating current.
Through R3, the non-inverting input of the op-amp receives a reference to the virtual ground at a constant voltage and receives the alternating voltage of the input signal through C3 and R4.
C2 acts as a treble bleed on the input, and C6 does the same on the output to prevent fizziness and whine. There is no tone control, only a VR2 output volume control.
And, of course, the VR1 gains control. It is located, and I must draw your attention to it, not in place of R6, the upper branch of the negative feedback divider, where it is found in the circuits of most overdrive and distortion pedals.
The MXR Distortion+ gain pot is located in the lower branch of the op-amp gain section feedback divider. This side is frequency-dependent since it contains capacitor C4 in series with resistors VR1 and R5.
This is the very place where the magnificent Voicing control is located on the rare "Dumble sounding" Hermida Zendrive and the iconic Precision Drive by Horizon Devices!
Here, the gain potentiometer also regulates the tone, or more precisely, the frequency structure of the overdrive. And therefore, it provides the guitarist with unique opportunities to tweak the tone.
Tumblr media
Here, we have an improved pedal from DOD. They've abandoned the input treble bleed because it is in the tone block of almost any electric guitar. This is the guitar's tone knob, a potentiometer in series with a capacitor that shunts the pickup to the ground.
DOD used silicon diodes instead of germanium, and more importantly, they implemented asymmetrical clipping, using three diodes instead of two. As we've learned in the article about a homemade tube amplifier, asymmetrical clipping is more pleasant to the ear than symmetrical clipping because it adds those sweet, even harmonics to the signal, as opposed to unpleasant, odd ones.
Another addition is the capacitor C3, which has a minimal capacitance of 25 picofarads. It is needed to prevent self-excitation of the operational amplifier and eliminate possible unpleasant high-frequency components.
And finally, Classic Tube Overdrive FX-53
Tumblr media
DOD wasted no time, and in the second half of the 1980s, it developed, among others, this pedal with a "classic tube" sound.
Tumblr media
At the bottom of the circuit, we see a buffered bypass with a flip-flop footswitch section that controls two JFET transistors, Q1 and Q2. Op-amp buffers U1A and U2A are added accordingly.
At the top left, we see a 100-ohm resistor between the battery positive and the circuit power positive terminals. As we remember from the post about the BOSS DS-1, this resistor not only protects the circuit, battery, and power supply from reversing polarity but also emulates the voltage sag of vintage molten-salt batteries, improving the sound of guitar overloads and preamps on transistors and operational amplifiers. So, an alkaline battery will sound like a salt battery but will last longer because it has a higher capacity.
The overdrive section now has symmetrical soft clipping on two silicon diodes in the negative feedback circuit.
Hard clipping DOD was not abandoned; that’s why the pedal is called Classic Tube Overdrive-Distortion. Moreover, the asymmetrical hard clipping of the Overdrive Preamp 250 was replaced with a symmetrical one.
This was all for nothing; the tech-savvy crowd modified the pedal by removing hard-clipping diodes, and they got a nice overdrive. This DOD FX-53's hard symmetrical clipping distortion ain't pretty and can't be turned off without modifying the pedal.
Tumblr media
It is the reason why the Classic Tube FX-53 is a forgotten pedal. It was not reissued, unlike the iconic 201 Phasor, 280 Compressor, 440 Envelope Filter, 410 Bifet Boost, and, of course, 250 Overdrive Preamp and some others.
They've not even preserved the asymmetrical clipping from DOD 250 but simply removed two diodes from the circuit, leaving only soft clipping. This is exactly what Landtone did when developing the OD-2 DIY kit.
Tumblr media
This is nothing more than a DOD FX-53 with true bypass and no hard-clipping diodes. It turned out to be an overdrive, and what an impressive one! This is by far the best overdrive pedal I own.
Tumblr media
At the very end, we've come to another feature of the “classic tube” overdrive circuit. There is not one, but two magic branches with a potentiometer and a capacitor between the inverting input of the op-amp and the ground!
These are the gain control and the tone control. On the tone control, the potentiometer does not just treble bleed but also regulates the balance between two RC circuits with different cutoff frequencies.
One piece of magic added to a second extended magic loop creates such a beautiful guitar tone control panel where every combination of knob positions sounds excellent! This is one of the best guitar overdrive designs that was ruined almost 40 years ago by two unnecessary diodes.
youtube
Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the DIY kit has a golden case in the photo, and the pedal in the video is assembled in a navy blue case from a DOD 280 Compressor clone. The fact is that I specifically ordered a kit with no holes for a future project and assembled the overdrive in a case from a compressor, which went into another project. Landtone produces many different DIY kits, PCBs, and enclosures for guitar electronics enthusiasts, and their products are available worldwide.
Some people may condemn hustlers from China for cloning classical circuits. Still, the history of guitar electronics is full of precedents of developers copying components and entire circuits from each other from the very beginning of this fantastic and fascinating art of guitar sound processing.
Sadly, sometimes, they abandon a fantastic project because they've made a small mistake and cannot see its bright potential. But then another enthusiast took the old scheme to a whole new level.

Understanding the Importance of Guitar Building Materials
Tumblr media
When it comes to building a guitar, the choice of materials plays a vital role in shaping its sound, playability, and overall quality. Luthiers and guitar builders understand the significance of selecting the right guitar building supplies to create an instrument that meets the highest standards. In this article, we will explore the importance of guitar building materials and how they contribute to the craftsmanship and performance of a guitar.
The Foundation: Wood Selection for Body and Neck
The selection of wood for the guitar body and neck is crucial as it sets the foundation for the instrument's tone and resonance. Different wood species possess unique tonal properties and characteristics. For example, mahogany is known for its warm and rich tone, while maple offers a bright and articulate sound. Luthiers carefully choose wood based on its density, weight, and resonance properties to achieve the desired tonal qualities. Each wood species contributes to the guitar's voice, allowing for a wide range of tonal possibilities.
Tonal Enhancement: Soundboard and Top Wood
The choice of wood for the soundboard or top wood further influences the guitar's tone and projection. The top wood is responsible for transmitting the vibrations of the strings to the body, creating resonance and amplifying the sound. Common top wood choices include spruce, cedar, and mahogany. Spruce is highly regarded for its balanced and versatile tonal qualities, while cedar offers warmth and responsiveness. Luthier Supplies carefully select the appropriate top wood to achieve the desired tonal characteristics for different guitar styles and playing preferences.
Stability and Playability: Neck and Fretboard Materials
The materials used for the neck and fretboard significantly impact the stability and playability of a DIY Guitar. The neck material should provide strength and resistance to warping while maintaining optimal playability. Maple, mahogany, and rosewood are popular choices for guitar necks due to their stability and durability. The fretboard material, such as rosewood or ebony, affects the feel and tone of the instrument. The smoothness and density of these materials contribute to the playability and overall response of the guitar.
Quality Hardware and Components
In addition to wood selection, high-quality hardware, and components are essential for a well-built guitar. These include items such as bridges, tuners, nuts, and saddles. The choice of materials for these components affects the instrument's intonation, tuning stability, and overall functionality. In addition, luthiers and builders prioritize using reliable and durable hardware to ensure the longevity and performance of the guitar.
The Bottom Line
Guitar building materials are the building blocks of a well-crafted and sonically exceptional instrument. The careful selection of wood species, top wood, neck materials, and quality hardware all contribute to the instrument's tonal qualities, playability, and overall quality. For aspiring luthiers and guitar builders, obtaining high-quality guitar building supplies is crucial to creating instruments that meet professional standards. #PIANOTEQ 6 STAGE PRO#
#PIANOTEQ 6 STAGE SOFTWARE#
#PIANOTEQ 6 STAGE FREE#
I have verified my plug-in licens is correct (updated licens as well) and that the plug-in works stand alone. Pianoteq 6 & 7 is listed as “Not a valid plugin-in” in Cubase 10.5.60. There are plug-in files in both /Hardrive/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST and /Hardrive/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. However, I can tell you that Pianoteq 5 (which is really old) works! But both Pianoteq 6 and 7 does not work. Updating Cubase 10.5 to the latest version. Uninstalling Pianoteq 7 and reinstalling it. Pianoteq 6 Stage Edition from Pianoteq is a virtual piano that utilizes physical modeling to simulate the properties and behaviors of real acoustic. Re-setting the Cubase plug-ins cache manually (deleting: Vst2xPlugin Blacklist Cubase.xml, Vst2xPlugin Infos Cubase.xml, Vst2xPlugin SearchPaths Cubase.xml, vst3blacklist.xml and vst3plugins.xml in /~Library/Preference/Cubase 10/). with headphones () - Pianoteq user forum - Modartt user forum. I checked the blacklist and there it was. blue tooth speaker is its ability to widen the sound stage in such a way. Before we get into all the features offered in Pianoteq, I want to take a second to highlight the 4 different versions of the software. When loading the project I was notified that the plug-in was not found. Today, we are going to test Pianoteq 6 and see if it can stand out in a very saturated market of virtual piano plugins. Today when I started Cubase I fired up a project that use Pianoteq VSTi.
#PIANOTEQ 6 STAGE SOFTWARE#
Utilizing the same software engine and supporting all the. MODARTT also added ARM architecture, which means you can theoretically run Pianoteq 6. Pianoteq 6 Stage Edition from Pianoteq is a virtual piano that utilizes physical modeling to simulate the properties and behaviors of real acoustic pianoswith this version aimed at the budget-minded musician and anyone who just wants to play the instruments with little adjustment. It is based on the award winning physical model, offered in Pianoteq 6 Standard and PRO, praised by many musicians for its close intimacy and responsiveness.Pianoteq Stage can at any. Recommended EP: They Are Gutting a Body of Water & A Country Western - ‘An Insult to the Sport’
Tumblr media
They Are Gutting a Body of Water is led by Doug Dulgarian, who in his past life made idiosyncratic, noisy experimental indie rock with the band Jouska. That wilderness nature continues flowing through his new chapter who alongside lead guitarist PJ Carroll, bassist Emily Lofing, and drummer Ben Opatut, immerse the soundboard in wavering shoegaze and weirdo pop that flickers in the Phllly spirit of Strange Ranger and Spirit of the Beehive. "Elephant" and "The Brazil” act as an immediate introduction in highlighting the band’s very solid and recently released split EP with experimental rockers and local peers A Country Western on An Insult to the Sport. For their part, vocalist and guitarist Derek Hengemihle, drummer Garrett Miades, bassist Paris Parker and guitarist Erik Hilbert offer a gonzo take on the slanted and enchanted with "Keeping Up With the Joneses" and "Crossing Out My Lines". It in turn collectively piques the senses with sonic schisms, be it synthetic or electric, for two rising artists who've been quietly prolific in the background of the indie DIY scene, but maybe not for long...
Highlights: "Elephant", "The Brazil", "Keeping Up With the Joneses", "Crossing Out My Lines"

Hello I'm here to fulfill your need to tell us about your au, tell me about Snipes pyro and engine please. (Like how they interact with others through their jobs, n their jobs in general I guess)
Sniper-
OKAY! So sniper is a make up artist in this, he sits back stage and most of his interactions with his co-workers are him really really close to their face holding their jaw while applying make up. He does their hair as well i.e puts product in wigs and stuff so they sit right. He's really quiet while he works but some of the actors try to talk to him anyway. (Mostly Medic and Scout ramble. Spy complains and soldier makes no sense.) And he just grunts and nods in response. He's really awkward looking when he's not doing someones make up, and everyone gives him a fist bump or handshake when he's done with their look just to see the usually deadpan make up artist smile a bit. They all tease him for being so lowkey but he doesn't mind.
Pyro-
Pyro works on sound cues and lighting cues. luckily they can't add crazy sounds because ENGIE adds the sounds to the board but Pyro has a ton of fun with them and plays certain ones for jokes or just to scare the fuck out of their coworkers or the actors on stage. Everyone is good at communicating with Pyro so they can get their job done but Pyro is super super goofy and sometimes they have a hard time getting Pyro to actually use the soundboard seriously and not flash the lights. Needlees to say though, pyro loves their job.
Engie-
Engie isn't super into working on stage or doing anything artsy but he's close to everyone because despite the fact he sets up the soundboard for pyro (they're best friends) and builds most of the props; sometimes when he finds a DIY way to build props he gets all the actors and backstage crew to build props together just to have fun and bond while prepping for rehearsals. Everyone really likes Engie, he's a dad friend, and he's always on hand to fix technical difficulties. They have no idea what they would do without him and call him to the rehearsals sometimes just so he can watch and talk to them.

Tips For How to Pack a Piano When You are Moving By Professional Movers in Singapore
Packing and moving a piano requires quite a few sensitive handling, in addition to tight, thorough packing to defend the tricky parts of the instrument. It needs to be professionally dismantled and then wrapped, padded and sealed completely to ensure secure shipping for your new home. Our experienced packing and moving groups take greater measures to make sure your piano is treated with the utmost care.
1.Moving a Piano
One of the first matters we do is put off the piano lid to wrap and p.C. it separately. The lid is placed on a thick, padded blanket and set aside whilst we focus on wrapping and sealing the piano casing.
2.Wrapping the Piano Casing
With the piano lid thoroughly set to the aspect, we surround and cowl the piano casing, soundboard, strings, and keyboard absolutely with thickly padded blankets which might be then sealed round and round with sturdy, secure packing tape. Next, we cut and match cardboard crating over and around the pinnacle of the piano, and ensure it’s tightly secured in location by using wrapping it over and below the soundboard with packing tape. The cardboard crating acts as a shield to protect the sensitive soundboard. Professional house mover in Singapore planning and moving all your house accessories and furniture moving to the new places.
3.Securing the Underside of the Piano
To help absolutely % your piano, we gently tilt the piano on the casing’s flat side and set it on a flat board for later shifting. In this position, we will take away the legs and maintain wrapping the soundboard and keyboard assembly so that it’s absolutely enclosed by using the packing blankets and cardboard crating. After custom cutting and becoming crating around the bottom aspect of the soundboard and sealing it with packing tape, at the same time as the piano is still resting on its facet, we shrink-wrap it from pinnacle to backside so that it’s completely wrapped and sealed from all aspects. Moving straps are then fastened in location at the flat board and around the piano body to enable our movers to easily shipping it.
Tumblr media

It’s been awhile since Recommended Listen has done one of these, but back by popular (content) demand, the weekly Best of the Rest column has returned to highlight the rest of the week’s great music you should know. Leading into it, Massachusetts DIY scene favs Future Teens and Dump Him both tried to figure out ways to move forward while Big Thief are proving to be unstoppable with their creative genius. The return of Vivian Girls is arguably being enjoyed more so the second time around, Chelsea Wolfe’s natural instincts are giving us even more reasons to appreciate her dark art, and NYC post-punks Bodega continue to live up to the promise of being shiny new models. Meanwhile, Field Mouse succeeded at finding meaning in everything as modern punk scene cult hero Chris Faren searched for his within a screen. There’s a lot more to cover here, so let's get down to the music business.
Here’s the best of the rest from the week of August 11th, 2019…
Antagonize - Slip Death EP [Triple B Records]
The last time I saw Aaron Bedard, he was being showered in balloons and kids walking all over each others’ heads as part of the final bow of Bane, the seminal melodic hardcore band who very much helped make the New England hardcore scene what it is today. Bedard returned to the stage a year ago with a new band called Antagonize, and after throwing down some demos and promos, they’ve released their debut EP Slip Death on the great Boston hardcore label Triple B Records this past week (label leader Sam Yarmuth designed its cover art much like he did for the vinyl reissue of the 2001 Bane classic Give Blood.) Bedard’s intensity has not slowed down with the passing of time either. In fact, it’s become exponentially more confrontational as he and the band thrash through fast, visceral existentialist dread. Throw them on a bill with the likes of Fury, Fiddlehead, Turnstile, or any of the countless names coming out of the Triple B roster right now, and Antagonize -- and Bedard -- know exactly what the scene needs at this moment.
Slip Death by ANTAGONIZE
Charli XCX feat. Sky Ferreira - “Cross You Out” [Atlantic Records]
On September 13th, Charli XCX will release her long awaited “proper” third studio effort Charli. Between years of experimental EPs and one-off singles, it’s been awhile since we heard her target her vision for mass consumption with major label approal, and she’s bringing some of music’s most intriguing voices into the fold with her to get that across. We already heard her team with Lizzo on “Blame It On Your Love” and Christine and the Queens for “Gone”. Its latest preview “When You’re Not Around” is one for Twitter pop fandom, however, as it sees Charli XCX joining forces with Sky Ferreira on the A.G. Cook-produced track. The two artists have been heralded as pop music’s most underrated creators for the better part of this decade, so to hear Charli and Ferreira’s paths cross seamlessly into this digital slowburn as they put the collective shit they’ve dealt with personally over the years behind them is a fitting way for it to happen.

Code Orange - “Let Me In” [WWE Music]
At least weekend’s WWE Summerslam, rebooted horror heel Bray Wyatt returned after months of being kept off screen in action with a brand new character persona called the Fiend that saw him evolving from the creepy bayou cult leader of previous and into a psychotic children’s program host who turns into a deranged monster wearing a mask designed by horror film makeup legend Tom Savini. In helping get this new terrifying character’s image over with the crowd and viewers watching was Code Orange, one of the most exciting bands in hardcore and metal going right now, who reinterpreted Wyatt’s old theme “Live In Fear”, a sinister, swampy piece of occult rock originally recorded by Mark Crozier, under its new name “Let Me In” and making it into their own heavy pummeling likeness, adding layers of deeper darkness to Wyatt’s Fiend character in the process. This isn’t Code Orange Kids first foray in soundtracking WWE superstars' themes, as they backed Incendiary’s Brendan Gorrone live as goth anti-hero Aleister Black made his way to ring during NXT Takeover Brooklyn III. Now that Black is on the main roster, inevitably he will cross paths with the Fiend at some point, making you wonder where Code Orange's loyalty will lie...

The Highwomen - “Highwomen” [Low Country Sound / Elektra Records]
The Highwomen -- a.k.a. the country songwriting supergroup of Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby -- are one of the most exciting things to happen to country music this year. On September 6th, they will release their eponymous debut album, and to date, the foursome have proven themselves quickly to be working flawlessly as a well-woven collective where nothing remotely resembling an ego outshine the other in its first coupling of singles “Redesigning Women” and “Crowded Table”. It’s latest is a goosebump-inducing sunset song that hears each member sharing a piece of the narrative that tell a greater story about their ability to overcome all and any hurdle. “We are the daughters of the silent generations / You send our hearts to die alone in foreign nations,” their voices collect in its final moments. “They may return to us as tiny drops of rain / But we will still remain/ And we’ll come back again and again and again.
youtube
Miranda Lambert - “Bluebird” [RCA Nashville / Vanner Records]
Beyond the Highwomen, Miranda Lambert is now joining the highly anticipated of new Nashville releases with her seventh studio effort Wildcard, due out on November 1st. Her last effort was the excellently crafted post-divorce catharsis The Weight of These Wings, but judging by the sounds of WIldcard’s first single “Bluebird”, Lambert is getting back to her old high jinks of sorry not sorry whip-smart lyricism and folding them into cool, flawless country-pop. “And if the house just keeps on winning / I got a wildcard up on my sleeve / And  if love keeps giving me lemons / I'll just mix 'em in my drink,” goes its chorus. Lambert’s undefeated streak will likely continue with this as well as her tour behind the LP, which sees her bringing along her Pistol Annies sisters, Maren Morris, and Ashley McBridge along for the ride on select dates for her Roadside Guitars and Pink Guitars tour, kicking off in September.

Octo Octa - “Can You See Me?” [T4T LUV NRG]
Back in July, Octo Octa, the electronic dance outlet of Maya Bouldry-Morrison, dropped “Spin Girl, Let’s Activate”, the leadoff single from her forthcoming third album Resonant Body, set for release on September 6th. The listen was fully in motion with a bright luminosity radiating from with Bouldry-Morrison she says was inspired after a year of tremendous change and personal growth. That expanded energy extends even further in its subsequent listen “Can You See Me?” in which she allows emotions to overflow onto the soundboard through an empath in samples vocals and a cosmic tidal of synth arpeggios running through whichever cracks in its constant break beats they can find. It’s invigorating, and both as a measure of her art and being, there’s really no avoiding Octa Octa’s presence being made known here.
(Sandy) Alex G - “Southern Sky” / “Near” [Domino Records]
Rocket was a very special album in the prolific catalog of (Sandy) Alex G, though it wouldn’t be a surprise if the experimental indie pop wunderkind’s new album House of Sugar, set for release on September 13th, bests it in its own way. So far, we’ve heard the warped and rickety storytale standout “Gretel” and the earnest ode to a friend and place passed on “Hope”, and this past week, he introduced two more in “Southern Sky” and “Near”. The former, which includes an animated video by frequent visual collaborator Elliot Bech, is a country-stained sigh featuring Emily Yacina that hits a similar backwoods bliss that “Bobby” did two years ago, while the latter retreats to pinbacked repetition, wonky loops and samples that warp the canvas with Alex Giannascoli’s signature smeared fingerprints. (Sandy) Alex G will also be touring extensively behind the effort starting this October, with dates featuring the likes of Tomberlin, ARTHUR and Corey Flood.

Taylor Swift - “Lover” [Republic Records]
The last we heard of Taylor Swift was her divisive post-pop call-out Reputation, and with its tinge of industrial bangers and stadium-translating success, it’s safe to say it aged better than what anyone expected upon release. Her new album Lover is on the way next week, and so far, two of its early singles have been absolute dogshit while the other was just so-so. In the streaming era, it comes no surprise that there will be 18 tracks total on the album, which means there’s bound to be some duds. Hopefully they’re more like it’s title track, though. Jack Antonoff seems to be one of the few people who knows what to do with making Swift sound like a breath of fresh air in spite of her missteps in this lash-batting late night bar crawler that is the Jekyll to Swifty’s drunken Hyde. She really could have reverted full-on back to country-pop and easily gotten away with it...
youtube
Queen of Jeans - “Only Obvious to You” [Topshelf Records]
The surprises within Queen of Jeans’ sound are unraveling themselves quickly, but in subtle gestures leading up to the dreamy Philly indie-pop band’s release next week of their sophomore effort If you’re not afraid, I’m not afraid. So far, they’ve delivered a devastating blow to the ego in doo-wop form with "U R My Guy” and searched for a way out of a dead end relationship on “All the Same”. “Only Obvious to You” steps away from pastel lights and balloon grandeur, leaving plenty of room fordark space in between two warm bodies for the distance to hit hard. “Love will fuck you over hard,” Miriam Devora repeatedly reminds herself in the listen’s closing moments, and in the listen’s video shot at Philly Pride, they want to do their community a solid by letting it be known that no matter how you love, pain is pain, and your feelings are valid, too. This autumn, they’ll be mending broken hearts on the road alongside tourmates From Indian Lakes.
youtube
Whitney - “Used to Be Lonely” [Secretly Canadian]
Someone in Whitney’s camp had to have intentionally planned to have the Chicago country soul duo’s sophomore effort Forever Turned Around be released at the final breaths of summer and the cusp of autumn’s cupping season on August 30th, because “Used to Be Lonely” is the kind of listen that tugs at the heartstrings of both the, uh, lonely and not so lonely, in a way that will make those with someone feel warm gratitude to have someone by their side, and those who don’t romanticize about the day it happens to them. Its accompanying visuals, directed by Austin Vesely, are on point just as well, as it captures a budding romance developing at the kind of midwestern country fair in a small town you’d hit up some weekend in September when you could use a slice of simplicity in your life of how even the most humble moments can feel extraordinary if you’re sharing them with the right person. If not, Whitney will bring it to you when they roll through your city this autumn.

Tumblr media
Okay, this is my first post back from Tumblr since I completely wiped my account clean. I’ve been wanting to post again for a long time, but I never quite knew what type of content that I wanted to post. This post is for all of my followers, friends I’ve made on here the past few years, filmmakers and all. I wanted to bring this to your attention.
Since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to make movies and write. For years, I let my passion take the backburner because it wasn’t stable. 2018 is the year that I promised myself that I was going to really pursue my career and put my goals and accomplishments first.
This project titled ‘Hell of a Night’ is the project that I’ve written and have been planning to create since the beginning of the year.  The film is a dark comedy that is centered around four friends who decide to have a get-together. It details the night and all the surreal things that are experienced revolving around existentialism, a riot, and things that will surprise you.
This project is very DIY. The funds for this film will go towards camera equipment, materials to build lighting rigs, soundboard, microphones, and funds to pay the crew I will be working with. Anything that we raise over the $4000 will go to helping us acquire licenses to use copyrighted music in our film. A close friend and I will be doing the song selections for this product.
My overall goal is to submit this short to film festivals. I've always wanted to go to a festival with my own work and now that I'm graduating soon, I'll have the ability to go and market this project. The minimum to pledge is $1 and that even just pledging that dollar means a lot to me. It’s $1 closer to my goal and achieving my dreams.
I have rewards for those that decide to pledge $5, $10, $15, $20 and $50. It will include a personal copy of the film, exclusive early viewing, thank you credits and merchandise of my own design. You can click the link to get more info about it.
To close, I’d like to leave you with quote from Stephen Spielberg.
“You shouldn’t dream your film you should make it”

Self-Chosen Case Study - REAPER
Q: What are the learning and/or creative goals that the designers hope this technology will support students in attaining?
A: REAPER is a digital audio workstation that allows for the user to create and record their own sounds with openness and without limitation/constriction/need for use of in-app plug-ins or setup structures.
Q: What is the intended user profile? What is their age and level of musical knowledge of ability?
A: I think the program’s target audience could be adolescents to young adults (late high school into college) who are looking to expand their musical and sound world horizons with a free testing playground. The nature of this program being very DIY leaves lots of room for creativity, receptive of users from all kinds of different prior histories with music.
Q: Do they have any other defining characteristics (gender, cultural background, language proficiency)?
A: Not necessarily. The program’s default language is English, but I imagine that it can perhaps be downloaded in other languages / translated easily.
Q: How well is the technology designed to serve this user profile?
A: I believe their user base is very well supported and satisfied, so in my opinion, fairly well.
Q: What changes or additions would you make to this technology to make it more effective at attaining the designers' goals?
A: I might make the list of available options / soundboards a little easier to access, but again, while my view is from an educator-base, it is from someone not as well versed in technology or interface design as the general population.

The Best Plasterer, Drylining & Rendering Service
When choosing a Plasterer try to get 2 to 3 comparison quotes so you have a feel for the value of service. Insist on being given a written quote which is legally binding rather than an estimate to avoid disputes over payment and job expectations at the end of the project. Observe if vat has been introduced onto the quote and in case you cannot see it, ask if the plasterer is vat registered so you are conscious to nonetheless permit for it. Most plasterers will be expected to receives a commission whilst the activity has been finished.
Tumblr media
Whilst receiving a quote, speak if the quote includes substances or what substances you continue to want to buy. In case you are seeking out approaches to keep cash and the quote consists of materials, ask if it'll be less expensive that allows you to source them yourself to keep away from any mark-up for collection fees from the plasterer, although they will get better exchange discounts on substances than you can. If it is up to you to have bags of plaster ready for the tradesperson, ask how many kilogram bags you should source and what brands are the best (e.g. British Gypsum brand called Thistle is a favoured brand and easily available from local DIY stores such as B&Q)
Ask for references from previous clients and follow up seeing how glad they were using the tradesperson, could they recommend them to you, and because of the amount of dust created with plastering see how tidy they are saying the plasterer worked. Always ask for ‘before and after’ photos of the projects completed that are similar work to what you are asking to be completed. Ask if your plasterer has any insurance while working in your home. As plastering is a skilled job, ask to see any diplomas showing City & Guilds Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications.
If the plasterer may be rendering your out of doors partitions, discuss the need for scaffolding and whether this is delivered onto the quote or a further to still be factored in. If wished, will they outsource and arrange the scaffolding, or do you want to have it erected first? If old plaster is being eliminated, will there be the want for bypass lease and take a look at if this is also added onto the bill and once more, whose responsibility is it to organise the bypass prior to graduation of works. If you want more just read now... Drylining: Dry lining is a form of cladding for internal walls, and sometimes ceilings, to prepare them for painting or covering (for example in wallpaper). A plasterboard is attached to create a smooth surface. You may have heard of plastering, which is a similar, yet slower process we will explain later, but the dry lining is both quicker and uses specialist materials that can save time and money. Dry lining requires less water than plastering, hence the term ‘dry’ lining. This guide will tell you all about dry lining, including more about the materials, why they might be used, and where.
Put simply, dry lining is much quicker than traditional plastering and achieves a similar result: a wall or surface that is ready to paint or cover. The plasterboard used in the dry lining can hide pipes and wires, create insulation space, and even provide a soundboard. Dry lining is also suitable for a wide range of applications as it can be added to surfaces that include brickwork or uneven surfaces. It can create curved walls too, which allows for creativity or to help manage smaller or uniquely shaped spaces.
Tumblr media
As mentioned, the dry lining can be used on internal walls and ceilings, including brick walls and uneven surfaces, plus on internal stud walls. Depending on the type of wall or surface the plasterboard is being fixed to, two standard thicknesses of plasterboard, 9.5mm and 12.5mm, can be used. Dry lining is also possible around a door frame, with specialist door kits available to fit most standard frames. Dry lining can be used in bathrooms and kitchens, although moisture-resistant plasterboard or specialist insulation may be required to cope with condensation and moisture from the activities in these spaces.
3D rendering: Even if you’re not familiar with the term 3D rendering, you have probably seen it in action. 3D rendering is used to make animated movies such as Toy Story, realistic dragons in otherwise real movies, and the characters in most video games. While you may not have seen the 3D works directly, there’s also a good chance that 3D rendering was involved in the interior design of that furnished apartment you rented, or in the gorgeous architecture of a modern building. Even the new coffeemaker you bought at the store may have started out as a 3D model, testing out appearances and parts long before it became a physical object that brings piping hot coffee to the world. 3D rendering at its core is the process of creating a 3D image by using computer software that produces the necessary data. Computers usually use a series of lines or a mesh to depict the image, and detail is added until it’s sometimes difficult to distinguish between the 3D render and a photograph of a real object.
Real-Time Rendering_Think back to the last video game you played with a 3D character. As you played and interacted with the screen, the character appeared to move and jump around the screen as if they were a real person. They reacted so quickly to the things you asked the character to do, such as walk around or jump up and down, that the animation appeared to be happening in real time. Real-time rendering is produced through a three-part process, the application stage, the geometry stage, and the rasterizing stage.
Offline Pre-Rendering_ Some types of rendering are too slow to be real-time. These renders are not interactive but are often much better looking than real-time renders because they can handle much more complex geometry. This can mean hours by frame to render, but the result is much more spectacular in terms of appearance.
