Hello! Do you have any advice on getting into freelance coding or remote jobs in the field? I'm having trouble with my current endeavors of applications and my current customer service job isn't doing me well enough to want to stay, so I'm hoping for progress sooner rather than later. Anything helps, thank you!!
Hiya 🖤
Thanks for reaching out with your question about getting into freelance coding or remote jobs. Making a transition can be challenging, but with dedication and strategic steps, you can definitely progress in your career.
Firstly, consider specializing in a specific field of computer science rather than trying to learn everything. This will help you become an expert in a niche, making you more attractive to potential clients or employers.
The big thing to look at is (1) what specific job do you want? Don't know yet? That's the first thing you need to find out. (2) Found the job you want? Go to this website "roadmap.sh" and click the job title you want and look at the roadmap to become it. (3) Have an idea of what you need to learn? Now study :)
Here are some extra key pieces of advice:
Tumblr media
Public Code Repositories
Showcase your coding skills by contributing to public repositories on platforms like GitHub, GitLab, or others. This allows potential employers to see your projects and assess your coding abilities.
Online Certifications
Earn certifications from reputable online courses like Freecodecamp, Codecademy, or SheCodes (if you're a woman). Displaying these certifications on your LinkedIn profile adds credibility for remote work or even freelance work because then clients will trust your skills more if it's back up with evidence (projects and/or certificates).
Links: "Massive List of Thousands of Free Certificates" / "The Udemy courses I use" / "FreeCodeCamp" / "Codecedemy" / "SheCodes" / "Udacity" / "Coursera" / "Google"
LinkedIn Profile
Revamp your LinkedIn profile to reflect your job title. Use a title that aligns with your dream job, and highlight your skills, certifications, and projects. You don't even need work experience OR do what a lot of my developer mates do have no work experience and set your "job" as a self-employed freelance developer... little cheat there~!
Links: "LinkedIn Career Explorer" / "Tips for speaking to/reaching out to Recruiter" / "Tips for Landing Your First Entry-Level Developer Job" / "Career Services for Web Development" / "The Talent Cloud Community: Careers Workshop"
Volunteering
Help someone out with a project for their business or whatever. For example, I helped a guy I met in a programming discord server build his portfolio page for free, but I care more about the experience. Search online for volunteer jobs with your dream job title e.g. Volunteer App Develope, but in your country would be better. The experience you can you can add to your LinkedIn. the project you work on you can add to your resume/experience.
Link: "SkilledUp Life"
Networking
Connect with professionals in your field on LinkedIn, even if you don't know them personally. Growing your network can open up opportunities and expose you to valuable insights. Events in person or online, servers (I found volunteer opportunities here), forums, Twitter (I found some mates on there), Instagram (another place I found developer friends). Networking can even help with building group projects~!
Link: "Tips for speaking to/reaching out to Recruiter"
Project Building
Work on both small and big projects to demonstrate your capabilities. Highlight these projects on your resume and portfolio.
Links: "Building projects after learning a new concept advice" / "Tips from learning using multiple resources" / "Tips on learning programming with ChatGPT" / "Harvard University Free IT Courses" / "The Udemy courses I use" / "Free Programming Books" / "Coding Advice for beginners" / "800 free Computer Science classes"
Online Presence
Share your learning progress and projects on various platforms like Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube. Employers often appreciate candidates who actively showcase their work and commitment to learning. I made a post for Tumblr coding blogs:

Good luck!!

Hey I’m 20 now and new to programming cause the education system in my country isn’t that good…so where do you think I should start and is there any tip for someone like , absolute beginner..?? Is it too late..??? Also love your blog💕✨
Hiya! 💗
It's great to hear that you're interested in programming, and I'm glad you're finding value in my blog. It's literally never too late to start learning programming, no matter your age or background, so don't worry. I start properly pursuing programming at 19, same time I started this blog actually~!
Here some links from my blog that might be useful: my asks | my asks on how to get started
Here are some tips to get you started as an absolute beginner:
Choose a Programming Language: Start with a beginner-friendly programming language. Depends on what you want to program e.g. Web Development, Game Development, Machine Learning, you find out what you like and search up what programming languages are used in that field. Unsure? Start with JavaScript (probs learn HTML, CSS first) or Python, those my pick, to be honest.
Online Resources: There are numerous online resources and tutorials available for free. Websites like Codecademy, freeCodeCamp, MDN Docs, W3School, Coursera, and edX offer structured courses for beginners!
YouTube and Blogs: Many experienced developers share their knowledge through YouTube channels and blogs. You can find video tutorials and articles on a wide range of programming topics. I don't have a specific YouTube channel I follow, I just search up on the topic and watch a few videos on it. But I always go for the long videos e.g. 1-2 hours long for a bunch of information.
Books: Google "[programming language name] PDF books" pick a couple and study them.
Build projects > learning theory: Don't just absorb the information and do a couple practise questions on what you learnt, build a project on it! E.g. "I just learnt variables and loops in C#, let's build a student gradebook console app" I don't know~! APPLY your knowledge = wisdom.
Stay Consistent: Learning to code is a gradual process. Stay consistent with your learning, even if you encounter difficulties.
Check out the links above as it might help further questions and hope what I said helps!

Whether students are looking to catch up, get ahead, or explore new learning paths, Apex Learning offers a diverse range of subjects tailored to meet individual needs. However, like any online learning platform, students sometimes encounter challenges and look for support to maximize their learning outcomes. This blog delves into common challenges students face with Apex Learning and provides practical solutions, focusing on how to find reliable Apex Learning answers and utilize available resources effectively.
Understanding Apex Learning
Apex Learning provides a dynamic educational experience through its digital curriculum. The platform is widely recognized for its rigor and the ability to cater to a variety of learning styles. It offers courses in core subjects like mathematics, science, English, and social studies, along with electives and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The interface is user-friendly, designed to keep students engaged and motivated throughout their learning journey.
Common Challenges Faced by Students
One of the primary challenges students face is the complexity of the course content. Some students may struggle with the advanced topics presented in AP courses or find the pace of learning faster than what they are accustomed to in a traditional classroom setting. Additionally, navigating through the digital platform can be daunting for first-time users, making it difficult to keep track of assignments and deadlines.
Finding Reliable Apex Learning Answers
Students often search for Apex Learning answers to help with difficult assignments or to prepare for upcoming tests. It’s important to approach this responsibly. While it’s tempting to look for quick answers, the ultimate goal should be to genuinely understand the material and develop competence in the subject area.
The best way to find reliable Apex Learning answers is by utilizing the resources provided by the platform itself. Apex Learning includes a variety of tools designed to enhance understanding, such as interactive tutorials, real-time feedback, and personalized learning paths. These resources are created to align directly with the course content, ensuring that students not only find the answers they need but also understand how those answers were derived.
Leveraging Additional Resources
Aside from the built-in resources, there are several other strategies students can employ to improve their understanding and performance:
Online Study Groups: Collaborating with peers in virtual study groups can be a great way to discuss challenging topics and share resources. These groups provide a platform for students to ask questions and learn from each other, offering diverse perspectives on complex subjects.
Educational Websites and Forums: Websites like Khan Academy, Coursera, and specific educational forums related to Apex courses can provide supplementary materials and explanations that might not be covered in depth on the Apex platform.
Hiring a Tutor: If students find themselves consistently struggling, it might be worth considering a tutor who specializes in online learning or the specific subjects offered by Apex. A tutor can provide personalized guidance and explain difficult concepts in different ways until they are understood.
Time Management and Organization
Effective time management and organization are crucial in online learning environments. Students should make a consistent schedule that allocates time for studying, completing assignments, and reviewing material. Utilizing digital tools such as calendars, reminder apps, and planning software can help keep track of deadlines and priorities.
Staying Motivated
Staying motivated can be challenging, especially when learning in a solitary environment. Setting clear goals, rewarding yourself for completing tasks, and maintaining a healthy study-life balance can significantly influence your motivation levels. Also, regular interaction with teachers and peers through the platform’s communication tools can make the learning process more engaging and less isolating.
Conclusion
Apex Learning offers a robust platform for students seeking flexible and comprehensive educational opportunities. While challenges are inevitable, the key to success lies in how these challenges are approached and overcome. By actively seeking understanding, utilizing available resources, and maintaining a disciplined approach to learning, students can not only find the right Apex Learning answers but also achieve a deep and lasting understanding of their subjects. This proactive approach not only enhances their performance in Apex courses but also prepares them for future academic and professional challenges.

Hiya!! I am taking a coding course at a University. While it's excellent for learning how to use a lot of complicated concepts in programming, we don't really get to do any projects or create anything yet. I was wondering how to get into that. Are there any resources you might recommend?
Hiya!! 💞
Goodie, you want to build your own projects! That's so good, I love project building! Now, it depends what you're coding (the languages + specific area) e.g. are you learning HTML/CSS/JavaScript (Website building) or is it like Python/Java/C# idk but you get what I'm asking for here, the projects you want to learn and build depends on what you're learning in the first place! But I will give some general advice!
Tumblr media
🎥 YouTube
I love YouTube so much, there are thousands of videos on that site for any programming language to building pretty much anything! What I did when I started off was the simple search of "[The coding language] beginner project" and then I get to see what I can build. Now if you get stuck on a snippet of code, Google it and there are sites that will explain it for you. Now, don't fall for tutorial hell where you're watching tutorial after tutorial videos but watching them will give you a good foundation!
🔍 Google
Similar to what I said for the YouTube way, you can Google the same question and it will give you a bunch of project ideas, how to even do them and all you can do also is add more on top, what I mean is don't just watch or read about a project idea, see how you can twist it your own style e.g. recently I watched a React.js tutorial on how to make a to-do app! My twist was I styled it different by adding a frog theme. So the tutorial was my foundation and I just added on top of that to further exercise my skills!
🌐 GitHub
Have a hub for all your projects! After creating your projects, you don't just want it sitting on your computer, you can put it online! I use GitHub - it's a place where you can store all your projects, have a save history so you can go back on old code, even share the static webpages you make (using HTML/CSS/JavaScript) with other people online! The Site | How to use GitHub | Check out my GitHub for reference
📚 Online Courses
Many online platforms offer project-based courses. Websites like Udemy, Coursera, Codecademy and FreeCodeCamp can guide you through creating practical projects step by step. I use Udemy for learning and there are courses that are like "Build 9 web development projects blah blah blah" they're actually really good! BUT you do have to pay for them but if you can't find a good project on YouTube to follow or you can visualise or understand the articles online on how to build one, I suggest getting a course because someone teaches you how to make the project. Udemy is fairly cheap during their sales, going down from £59.99 to £10.99!
🤗 Collaboration
Reach out to classmates to build together, someone is bound to have an idea for something! Collaborative projects not only expand your skill set but also let you learn from others. Great skill to have! You can even collab on GitHub projects - which I am doing right now with people I've met through Tumblr (checkout our project)!
Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day! Start with small projects, gradually challenging yourself with larger ones. The journey of creating is just as exciting as the finished project itself. Happy coding! 😎🙌🏾💻💗

Don’t Waste Money on College. Do This Instead.
Tumblr media
Well folks, it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room; college degrees, and specifically how Google Professional Certificates are making most of them irrelevant. That’s right, the diploma that you work tirelessly for, that symbol of education that you wear proudly on your wall, it’s great, it’s fantastic! Unless of course, you end up drowning in student loan debt, and you can’t find a job in your field. But don’t worry, because I have a solution for you– enter Google Certificates! Let’s dive into 7 of the best Google Certificates for 2024:
Google Digital Marketing and E-commerce Professional Certificate
This certificate is a beginner-level course. It has a 4.8 out of five star rating. They say that you can get done with it in around 6 months or so, with about 10 hours of studying per week, but self-reporting shows you can get done with it much faster than that. Keep in mind, the phrase “digital marketing” actually comprises a bunch of different sub-fields, such as SEO, which is search engine optimization, pay-per-click or PPC, search engine marketing, email marketing, etc. If you type in “digital marketing” on LinkedIn at the entry level, you are going to see 68,000 results, and on Glassdoor they make about $68,000 a year. Keep in mind, this is the Google Professional Certificate that’s hosted on Coursera.

Google IT Automation Certificate
This certificate says you’re going to learn in-demand skills like Python, git, and IT automation, in order to advance your career. So you are going to learn a little bit of coding. It’s not too advanced on the coding, because I know that scares a lot of people, but it’s specifically going to be applied to IT or information technology.
It has a score of 4.8 out of 5 with over 30,000 ratings. Again, it says it can be completed in about 6 months, but all the self-reporting shows that it can be done much quicker than that, usually somewhere between 2 to 3 months, on average. According to Google, there’s over 530,000 US job postings that have something to do with Python proficiency, and over 75,000 of those are entry-level jobs. There’s a ton of different jobs you can go into with this skill set. One of them would be a Junior System Administrator. There’s about 12,000 results at the entry-level, but like I said, there’s a ton of other jobs out there, and you’d make about $63,000 a year.
Google Associate Android Developer Certificate
Tumblr media
This certificate isn’t technically a Google Professional Certificate. They essentially did this in association with Android, but I decided to include this on the list because I do think there’s a ton of demand for people who have this skill set. For instance, 95% of the top 1,000 Android apps contain Kotlin code and Kotlin is exactly what you’re going to be learning. There’s a bunch of different career paths you could go into. I’ll just discuss one of them– Mobile Application Development shows 3,800 results on LinkedIn at the entry-level and if you type that into Glassdoor, you’re going to see $80,000 a year.
Google UX Design Professional Certificate
UX stands for user experience and this certificate claims that in less than 6 months you can be prepared for an entry-level job in UX Design. This one scores 4.8 out of five stars with over 56,000 ratings. Again, this is one of those where it says 6 months, but realistically speaking, you can do it faster than that.
However, this is one of the more intense Google Professional Certificates. I’d say this is a little harder than a lot of the other ones on the list, but it is going to help you to get your portfolio together. There are 999,000 in-demand job openings in UX Design. This is one thing I forgot to mention, but with all these certificates, when you complete them, you get access to a private job board that over 150 large and well-respected companies agreed to hire people from.
Another thing that’s really great about these certificates, this is actually probably the best perk and almost nobody talks about it, is that you actually get to list these on your LinkedIn. A secret that a lot of people don’t know is you don’t actually have to finish them. You don’t actually have to be done with them in order to list them on LinkedIn and recruiters and hiring managers can find you through these certificates, so you can just say that you’re in the process of taking it and when they search the certificate they may find you.
There’s a ton of different jobs out there that you could potentially go into. One of them is Interaction Designer on LinkedIn at the entry level. There’s about 2,900 results and if you type that in on Glassdoor you’re going to see $110,000 a year. So if you’re somebody who is really interested in art, and you don’t want to keep it as a hobby, you want to do it as a profession– you actually want to get a job doing artistic-related things, this can be a really good choice for you.
Google Project Management Professional Certificate
Tumblr media
This certificate is a really good one, as well, that’s another super valuable skill set. It is beginner level, it says that it takes about 6 months, but again, you can do it much quicker than that. It has a score of 4.8 out of five with over 71,000 ratings. They say there’s 479,000 in-demand job openings in Project Management. This is a super valuable skill set that is never going to go away. In fact, I would say Project Management is just going to keep growing as the years go on. If you type in Project Manager on LinkedIn at the entry level you are going to see over 70,000 results and on Glassdoor they say Project Managers make about $84,000 a year.
Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate
This certificate claims you’re going to be job ready for a Data Analytics role in about 6 months. It has a score of 4.8 out of 5 with over
98,000 ratings. One of the great things about these Google Professional Certificates is you can do it all on your own time, you don’t have to quit your job, or move across the country to go to college. According to them, there’s over 380,000 in-demand job openings for Data Analytics and by the way, this is another one that I didn’t mention, but over 75 percent of graduates in the US claim an improvement in their career path.
And this is all within 6 months of certificate completion. That is phenomenal, considering these certificates, last time I checked, only cost around $39 per month. So you compare that to basically any other way of getting educated or you know, trying to get into a job. For instance, colleges which cost about $100,000 for a college degree or going to a boot camp, which is probably going to cost you at least $10,000, this is a ridiculous value, this is basically a cheat code at this point.
I don’t know how long this is going to last, maybe after it gets saturated or whatever, it’s not going to be as valuable, but right now, people have been reporting to me left and right that this is getting phenomenal results. According to LinkedIn, there are 50,000 results at the entry-level for a Data Analyst position, which is great, and according to Glassdoor, Data Analysts make about $71,000 a year.
Google IT Support Professional Certificate
Tumblr media
This is probably the most well-known Google certificate out there. It has a score of 4.8 out of five stars with 151,000 ratings. That is a ton of people who have taken the certificate and rated it extremely well! It also says it takes around 6 months to take it, but again realistically speaking, it’s much quicker than that. In fact, for this particular one, a lot of people have told me they’ve been able to knock it out sometimes in a few weeks, a month, a month and a half, or 2 months.
On the listing, it says there’s about 400,000 in-demand job openings in it. A Help Desk position is probably the easiest job to land. Type it into LinkedIn and see how much demand there is. For instance, Database Administrator got 128,000 results at the entry level and you make about $84,000 a year. System Analyst got 146,000 results at the entry level and you make $87,000 a year.
