LIGHTS OUT de Christian Sesma: Opération coup de poing
S’ouvrant sur un bref flash-back en zone de guerre, le film introduit ensuite l’ex-militaire Michael « Duffy » Duffield (Frank Grillo) dans sa situation actuelle, soit celle d’un vagabond qui souffre du trouble de stress post-traumatique, un peu comme Rambo au début de First Blood. Lorsqu’il démontre à quel point il sait se débrouiller avec ses poings lors d’une bagarre dans un bar, Duffy attire l’attention de Max Bomer (Mekhi Phifer), un boxeur fraîchement sorti de prison qui, afin de payer sa dette auprès d’un promoteur louche (Dermot Mulroney), recrute l’ancien soldat pour participer à des combats d’arts martiaux mixtes clandestins.
Le scénario dissipé de Chad Law & Garry Charles s’attarde également à la sœur de Max (Jessica Medina), dont l’ex a égaré une large somme d’argent appartenant à de sinistres individus « dans le sud », ainsi qu’à des policiers corrompus du LAPD menés par la mystérieuse Ellen Ridgway (Jaime King). Puis lors du climax, Duffy fait appel à un vieux frère d’armes incarné par nul autre que Scott Adkins, un caméo de luxe très apprécié.
Malgré un budget modeste, ce long-métrage réalisé par Christian Sesma (Section 8) est riche en action, une scène sur deux impliquant du cassage de gueule ou un règlement de compte. Au sein d’une solide distribution, Frank Grillo livre une performance particulièrement intense et habitée, en plus d’être parfaitement badass. Je ne dirais pas non à un Duffy: Lights Out Part II.
LIGHTS OUT sera lancé en salle et en vidéo sur demande ce vendredi 16 février.

Lost Time (2014)
My rating: 3/10
Now the obvious joke here would be, "I just lost 90 minutes watching this piece of crap." It would, of course, also be quite lazy, but then I don't see why my review should be better thought out than the movie I'm reviewing.
By the way, word of advice: Adding very loud ooky spooky suspense music to your movie does not add to the atmosphere, it's just annoying.
