Interview with the Emperor
Saint-Chamans had been in Russia as an envoy from Marshal Soult. He was bringing back dispatches for the Emperor from Savary who was then ambassador at St. Petersburg; arriving at Fontainebleau early in the morning, he was immediately summoned by Napoleon...
— A Paris, Sire.
* * * * *
I was surprised to find the aide-de-camp (General Mouton) dressed so early in the morning in dress uniform, in white breeches, silk stockings and shoes with buckles, but I was even more surprised to find the master in the same outfit. He had, moreover, his hat on his head, military style, and walked up and down, hands behind his back.
— What is your name?
I say my name, although he already knew it from General Mouton.
— Where are you from?
— From Petersburg.
— How many days did you spend on the road?
— Sixteen.
— Um! (kind of growl that came up several times in the conversation). What does Savary say over there?
I gave him an account, as General Savary had instructed me, of various details which seemed to interest him; he dwelled particularly on a quarrel which had taken place between a captain of the English navy and some Russian naval officers; he was very anxious that Russia should declare war on England; General Savary foresaw some difficulties in this regard, which did not seem to impress him.
He opened his letters, and after going through them, he asked me, where were the packages that Savary had delivered for me?
— In Paris, Sire.
— What, in Paris? looking at me angrily.
— No doubt, Sire; there is a box of rags(??) and some large packages; I came straight to Fontainebleau, and I could not bring all this on my horse.
— Hum! ... Go rest; you will leave this evening for Paris, and you will deliver to General Duroc all these rags, as well as all the letters which you bring from Petersburg.

Do you have any recommendations for some good post retirement, ACD Holmes/Watson fics? After listening to the Bert Coules version of His Last Bow I need something that will either make me feel better or let me have a good cry...
I do! I love this ask. Sussex is my favorite place for them.
The Adventure of the Travelling Correspondent (10k, M, established relationship, casefic). Romance, drama, mystery.
“Why, you’ve turned into such a romantic.”
“Years of your pernicious influence, I suppose.” We laughed, and he stroke my cheek.
The Bricks o’ the ‘Might ‘Ave Been’ (3k, T, established, WWI) by @tweedisgood. Watson talks with an old soldier about angels amid the wounded of the Great War.
“I think…” Watson began, “I think I was saved in battle by an angel once, but his name was Murray, not Gabriel, and he spoke my own tongue because he was made from stout Scots flesh and blood.”
Sun Song (7k, T, friends to lovers, jealousy) by @random-nexus. Holmes indulges in a little sentiment, and frightens Watson with his odd behavior.
“Words seemed to just fall out of Watson’s mouth without stopping by his brain for permission. ‘I saw you on the street earlier, taking leave of…someone.’”
Five Miles From Eastbourne (8k, M, established, casefic). Leaving Baker Street behind they find home again together.
“A fleck of grey now at his temple, a line or two across his brow, but still as sharp as the day we met.  More human?  Yes.”
Old Friends and New (1k, G, established, domesticity) by @gailbsanders. Holmes plots a party for his Watson. (This is a little scene from an ongoing series I adore.)
“Don’t pick the Chapeau de Napoleon rose today. I’ll do it tomorrow, myself, since they’re Dr Watson’s favourite.”
A Case of Immortality (2k, G, pre-slash, WWI; LJ). Holmes meets Watson at the close of the Great War.
“You will never truly die, Holmes, not so long as people love you through the pages of my ‘ridiculous romanticism.’“
Honeycomb, for a lover (200w, NR, first kiss). Watson behaves quite unexpectedly.
“I’m sorry.” “Don’t be.”
Envoi (5k, G, established relationship, domesticity; LJ). Watson records the hours of their intimacy.
“They’ve called each other ‘old men’ for decades. Now that it’s finally true, the tease has become more of an endearment than anything.”
Return Like the Sea (2k, G, pre-slash, addiction recovery; LJ). After so long a separation they find a way give each other home again.
“I just want to have you to talk to. Listen to. Even just…look at.”
All Nature is Our Satellite (1k, G, pre-slash, growing intimacy). Holmes retires, and Watson wonders whether he knows him.
“You needn’t say these things aloud, you know; you’ve got rather expressive eyebrows.”
Your Sweet Hue (1k, G, friends to lovers) by @gailbsanders. Sussex and how they make their way there.
“The meal passed in silence, but Holmes was aware of that comfortable quality that would fill a room whenever John Watson happened to be there.”
History Rewritten (5k, T, established, relationship negotiation), by @sanspatronymic. Holmes and Watson learn to live together again.
“If you must torment me with poetry, at least do it properly.”
And ones I’ve rec’ed before:
Glad With Our Carols(1k, G, established, tenderness) by @oldshrewsburyian.
“He looked up at me over his toast. ‘I should be sorry indeed to think that I had entirely lost my ability to astonish you.’ ”
Pilgrims of a Sort (12k, T, established, retrospective; also Mary Morstan/OFC) by @earlybloomingparentheses. Holmes and Watson tell their story to other lovers.
“I am not going anywhere, Holmes,” I replied, amused. “You know as well as I that our female clients, no matter how lovely, tempt me not one jot.”
Something To Retire To  (9k, T, friends to partners, ace Holmes). In process toward Sussex they nearly miss each others’ wishes.
“A few minutes later, he shifted his body, stretching out along the sofa  and resting his head in my lap as if it was the most natural thing in  the world.”
Our Hospitality (1k, established, hurt/comfort) by @educatedinyellow. An old grief is unexpectedly raised.
“Many of my greatest pleasures in retirement were unanticipated.”
A Man Of Great Character And Better Humor (2k, G, established, caretaking) by @sanspatronymic. Holmes loves his Watson.
“He nuzzled his nose against the curve of Watson’s cheekbone so sweetly that when he muttered, ‘tough luck, old man,’ it was positively comforting.”
Rewriting History (10k, T, friends to lovers, WWI, epistolary) by @educatedinyellow. Watson goes to war again, and writes to his Holmes.
“When I arrive back in England, then, I will come straight to you for our visit. We can read and argue to our hearts’ content.”
Thanks for the ask! Anyone else have Sussex recs? Add them here!

hermes mini kelly 26
Mini Trend Nora has a Louis Vuitton Petite Boite Chapeau Bag that comes with a steep price of a whopping Rs 3,08,189.28! The dancer had styled it with a one-shouldered high and pants. mini kelly bag I'm not in a position to buy a designer bag currently but it's on my bucket record. I know if I ever do I will take all your experiences into consideration. In 2009, a plaque was positioned on the "Rodeo Drive Walk of Style" in recognition of her contributions to style and style. In 1955, Kelly was photographed by Howell Conant in Jamaica. He photographed her without make-up in a naturalistic setting, a departure from the standard portrayal of actresses. The ensuing photographs had been published in Collier's, with a celebrated picture of her rising from the water with moist hair making the duvet. Following Grace's marriage, Conant was the unofficial photographer to the House of Grimaldi and extensively photographed her, Rainier, and their three children. In 1992, Conant printed Grace, a book of images that he took throughout her 26-year tenure as Princess of Monaco. The other plus point can be its value, after all, coming in at SGD690 in comparability to the KDT which now begins fromSGD840 each. The replica handbag world is fraught with myths, very important high quality data, and extra that I can’t wait to share with you. That’s why I wrote up this fun, little guide for my blog. When she purchased the traditional she said it was her first-ever Chanel so I would not put it past her to buy fakes once more. A rose garden in Monaco's Fontvieille district is dedicated to the memory of Kelly. A hybrid tea rose, named Rosa 'Princesse de Monaco', was named after her. She is commemorated in a statue by Kees Verkade within the garden, which features four,000 roses. Prince Rainier also established the Princess Grace Irish Library in her memory, containing her personal assortment of over 9,000 books and sheet music. Avenue Princesse Grace, "the costliest avenue on the earth", is known as for her, as is Boulevard Princesse Grâce de Monaco in Nice, France. The Princess Grace Awards, a program of the Princess Grace Foundation-USA, has awarded almost 800 artists at greater than one hundred establishments in the U.S. with greater than $15 million to date. wikipedia handbags The original Monaco department of her foundation, named Fondation Princesse Grace, stays energetic and continues to provide direct help to college students and kids inside the Monaco and France areas. The Napoleonic Code of Monaco and the legal guidelines of the Catholic Church necessitated two ceremonies – both a civil and a non secular wedding ceremony. The 16-minute civil ceremony took place within the Palace Throne Room of Monaco on April 18, 1956, and a reception later in the day was attended by three,000 Monégasque citizens. To cap the ceremony, the 142 official titles that she acquired in the union (counterparts of her husband's) were formally recited. Princess Grace has been depicted by many pop artists, including Andy Warhol and James Gill. Warhol made a portrait of her for the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia as a limited version silkscreen in 1984. Kelly performed the function of Bing Crosby's long-suffering spouse, Georgie Elgin, in The Country Girl , after a pregnant Jennifer Jones bowed out. Already conversant in the play, Kelly was highly fascinated within the part. Normally small baggage used to be reserved for evenings – if you requested me few years ago, but I have lately modified that. Even though they don’t fit much, I nonetheless could be proud of a wardrobe stuffed with Mini Kelly baggage, in rainbow colors. When you look past all the common misconceptions, you’ll learn that it's really a precariously and delicately processed crocodile skin of the Crocodylus Niloticus species. We’re no stranger to the sumptuous confines of Kylie Jenner’s luxury designer-filled handbag closet containing rare pieces from labels like Chanel, Fendi, and Balenciaga. Talking about the rarer styles… In addition to multiple sizes of the Kelly bag, Hermes carries on to produce restricted edition versions of the fashion 12 months after year. The most desired restricted edition Kelly, is no doubt, the Himalaya Kelly. The bag is manufactured from the pores and skin of the Nilo crocodile, rendered in a delicate coloration that resembles the pictures of the magnificent Himalayan mountains. Initially founded as a saddlery and equestrian items maker over 180 years in the past, Hermes has evolved right into a fully-fledged luxury powerhouse. Continuing to take care of its heritage, nearly all the designer’s present day items characteristic a delicate equestrian nod in one way or another. The 2013 assortment makes use of a couple of distinct colorways in Lizard, Matte Alligator, and Ostrich Ghillies trim, all faceted with Palladium or Permabrass hardware. Plissé is a technique the place a material, sometimes silk or satin, is folded and pressed into an accordion-like construction, giving extra textural class to an in any other case mundane look. This technique has been utilized in Hermès scarves for many years, nonetheless, this system was delivered to Hermès leather-based items a number of occasions, each an item meant for astute vintage lovers. These luggage are as easily identifiable as they are rare. This approach combines the rigid Sellier pointed out edge with a supple leather corresponding to Togo, Fjord, or Chèvre Souple.

Napoleon comments on Mme Bertrand’s chapeau
**********
The Emperor examines Mrs. Bertrand's toilette:
— Ah! Madam, in Paris, we wouldn't have put on a lilac hat with a lilac dress. There would have been a few white ribbons, not lilac, in the hat.
— "We are far from that time," said Madame Bertrand.

Ooh la la. Paris is burning and we lit the match. Whether you’re painting your masterpiece, becoming the next Pablo Picasso on left bank, or strolling along Rue montorgueil, and sampling sugary snacks along the right bank, Paris will keep your summer abroad fulfilling. Now let’s do as the Parisians; wake up, grab your chapeau and begin the day.
Across endless roads of cobblestone, and restless nights at Le Baron, Paris has become a muse to us all but nothing is more wonderful to see than the Eiffle Tower. Of course, that’s the first thing everyone wants to cross off their list who comes to paris, seeing this one of a kind iron structure located on champ de mars keeps the city up all night.
Moving on, the arc de triumph. Another one of paris most famous monuments, which napoleon I had built to honor his army. A tomb of an unknown solider lies here, and a candle is lit every night in remembrance. This 164 foot tall monument has a 284 step stairwell inside and the view from the top is worth every step.
The Louvre; The worlds largest museum. This place first started out as a fortress to protect the city from viking attacks, and then went on to house Louis XIV before he moved his home to Versilles. The museum expanded a great deal over time and then of course in the 21st century the Pyramids were built. This grand museum holds some of the work of the most famous artists since the beginning of time. Yes, this museum is where the mona lisa sits, alone on a free standing wall in the middle of the room. Lines can be extremely long waiting to get into this place, by purchasing the paris pass you are able to skip the line and walk right in, worth every penny. This pass can also get you into a lot more attractions in Paris so don’t forget to check it out before your trip abroad.
The palace of versilles. Outside the city lights, in what then was a quiet country side, is where king louisXIV built his palace. This is where the chandelier room sits, also know as the hall of mirrors, with hundreds of visitors each day. Get there early this place fills up fast and the lines can get extremely long, but its worth the wait. You can walk through the palace and see the history through all the rooms, or you can wander around the property, where they have gardens, a few cafes, and The estate of Trianon which was the home of Queen Marie Antoinette.
Notre Dame, “Our lady of Paris.” A cathedral catholic church that sits along side of the seine. Climb upstairs to enjoy wonderful views of the city while rubbing the shoulders of a gargoyle. The architecture will leave you breathless.
The city of lights. Ooh la la. Paris is burning and we lit the match. Whether you're painting your masterpiece, becoming the next Pablo Picasso on left bank, or strolling along Rue montorgueil, and sampling sugary snacks along the right bank, Paris will keep your summer abroad fulfilling.

7. Tatouage Gregori Rasputin by Phil Kaulen (via IG-blutjugend).
10. Tatouage Marie Antoinette by Anki Michler (via IG-_ankimichler).
