For this 3rd issue, we are sharing stories, visual art, photography, poetry, and essays all related to the current liberation movement and bikes - with ass kicking earthquaking content!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This issue was put on hold while the cycling community started coming together during a pandemic to provide diy aid and then the movement to support Black Lives Matter erupted. During all this we held a campaign to #changethename of the DK gravel race (we are still waiting for this change) all while holding this industry and our communities accountable to do more to be inclusive and equitable (you still have work to do). This zine morphed into something I couldn’t predict, as the year threw in some challenges for us all. The “Wife beater” - #FashionOrOffensive Every time I say A-shirt people are confused but when I say wife beater they know! Where does this name come from? The term wifebeater reportedly became synonymous for an undershirt after a criminal case in 1947. A Detroit native named James Hartford Jr. was arrested for beating his wife to death. News outlets printed a photo of Hartford in a stained undershirt and referred to him as "the #wifebeater." Around the same time, Hollywood steeped in further the link between male rage and white tanks. Post-World War II, filmmakers became transfixed with films about violent, abusive and outright dangerous men, and the tight white tank top became a regular onscreen occurrence. Think A Streetcar Named Desire. Think Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Think Bonnie and Clyde.   In each of those films, as the men started to get increasingly heated or upset, their go-to move was to rip off their shirts — only to reveal a white, sweat-stained undershirt.  Even as they started popping up in almost every gangster movie, the shirts still hadn't earned the name "wife-beater" and were still referred to as "undershirts."
