@desireegruber Kicked off #NYFW with the stunning @calvinklein show! We especially loved the pom-poms & axes
Jake Gyllenhaal, Trevor Noah, Lupita Nyong’o Take in Calvin Klein
"Fashion is powerful; it shapes how people see beauty, which is one of the biggest ways that people see themselves in the world," said Trevor Noah.
By Leigh Nordstrom on September 8, 2017
With a front row as celebrity-heavy as his debut at Calvin Klein in February — when it contained Gwyneth Paltrow, Brooke Shields, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomie Harris, Millie Bobby Brown, Sofia Coppola, A$AP Rocky, Kate Bosworth, Greta Gerwig, Amber Valletta, Lauren Hutton and Ashton Sanders — the hopes were high Thursday night as Raf Simons presented his spring 2018 collection.
The tall order was met by Lupita Nyong’o, Trevor Noah, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mahershala Ali, Kyle MacLachlan, Millie Bobby Brown, Ashton Sanders, Christina Ricci, Rashida Jones, Kate Bosworth, Russell Westbrook and Karlie Kloss.
“If you’re going to go to a show, go to the Calvin show,” said Noah, after chatting with Ali. “The Daily Show” host, who spent the evening earlier talking with Zac Posen for a taping of the show, is limiting his fashion week visits to the Calvin Klein show.
“Just this one. I mean, Calvin Klein has been a brand that is ubiquitous all over the world, from South Africa to New York — Calvin Klein is part of fashion,” he said. “It’s an idea, it’s a concept, it has something to it that’s all-American.”
His relationship with fashion has changed in recent years due to his exposure to the industry. “Thanks to the Met, I became a fan of Comme des Garçons. I never knew of the design of the story behind it [before] — there’s so much that you get. And I think tying it back and forth from runway to real life I think is my biggest passion,” he said. “For instance, talking to Zac Posen about how he went and changed his idea about what fashion meant, I think that’s what I most enjoy. Because fashion is powerful; it shapes how people see beauty, which is one of the biggest ways that people see themselves in the world.”
Gyllenhaal and Nyong’o were decidedly less chatty. The “Stronger” actor deflected via a publicist, amidst rumors he is to appear in an upcoming campaign for Calvin Klein. Nyong’o simply wasn’t in the mood to converse.
“Uh, no,” she said with a laugh. “You can take a picture of me [though].”
MacLachlan, a recent front row fixture after attending the men’s Balenciaga show this summer, which he described as “extraordinary,” is also just hitting Calvin.
“I think this is going to be the only one,” he said, seated next to his wife, “Project Runway” executive producer Desiree Gruber. “Well, I wear a lot of his clothing. I think he dresses men really well — and he’s always got an interesting twist,” he added, raising his pant leg to show off his boots.
On the subject of television, he said he is “keeping our fingers crossed for next season for ‘Twin Peaks.’”
Brown arrived with a painted yellow stripe down the middle of her bottom lip, mimicking a lip ring.
“I want to inspire girls to stop piercing their lips, that they can do it in another way,” she said. “I have no piercings. I like rings but other than that I like to stay bare.”
The “Moonlight” cast, who all appeared in a Calvin Klein underwear campaign the day after the film won the Oscar for best picture, came out in support of the  brand.
“We keep in touch,” Trevante Rhodes said of his relationship with the company. His fellow actors, though, are another story: “Man, this is family. It’s amazing,” he said, having been in an embrace with Sanders and Ali moments before.
“I’ve been in and out since the first fashion show — the brand has been good to the ‘Moonlight’ fellas,” Ali said as he walked to his seat.
Sanders, a Calvin Klein campaign face, made the journey to New York just for Simons.
“I’m shooting ‘The Equalizer 2’ right now so I’m actually only here for Calvin’s show — I fly out later tonight. I’m only here for this — I have to be,” the actor said. After he wraps the Denzel Washington-led film, he’ll begin work on a Michael Fassbender project. “It starts shooting in April but I can’t really talk about it. It’s a boxing film though,” he said. “Should be really cool, so look out for that.”

Fashion in New York
What I will be writing about is fashion in New York. New York is a major fashion district that major designers have fashion shows for the public. New York fashion week, happens twice in a year during February and September. It includes different events of international fashion collections to be showcased to many people including buyers, press, celebrities, and the public. What I will be covering is what kind of collections will be held in clothes. Also the statements of the collection.  For example, In one runway show the outfit that was worn by the model was a hijab that showed an Indonesian design. The designer Dian Pelangi wanted to show that being in a hijab can still be “beautiful and stylish”. This style is meant to change people prejudices perception. I also would like to cover what people are attending and how people are reacting.

Split Ends
Split Ends Split pants used to mean it was time to retire them, but this Fall, make sure there is a slit on the hem of all your pants. Is this style fall’s version of the stirrup? Only time will tell.

Blue is The New Black In this case, work wear is the new look! Raf Simons celebrated good old American working class style at Calvin Klein, Adam Selman’s all-denim mechanic look and young designers Vaquera channeled delivery man style. The Peel
The Peel A tear or a rip will get you a long way this fall. Calvin Klein led the way at the beginning of the week with its ribbed sleeve peeling off a tailored jacket, then Proenza Schouler did a peel with a slight shoulder rib, while Monse deconstructed the white shirt with a shoulder rib.

Jean Genie Sometimes a pair of jeans is the best style solution and this fall, nothing should come between you and your favorite pair. The 90s
’90s We’ve seen so much of the ’80s, ’70s and even the ’00s were a thing, but now the ’90s are back! Which ’90s child were you is the big question? A techno raver? Look to Gypsy Sport. Cher from Clueless? La Perla. Lady Miss Kier of Dee-lite would today go for Jeremy Scott, Libertine, or even Sies Marjan. And for the ’90s fashion wine bar kind of lady, Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler got you covered!

NYFW A/W 2017
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK AUTUMN / WINTER 2017
Same procedure as every season. Yes, Fashion month is on the move again and it’s pretty hard not to notice. In almost every newspaper you'll find at least one tiny review, a picture on what is happening in the big four Fashion Week capitals.
As always, New York makes the start. In my eyes, that's probably the best, New York has always been the metropole of the minimalistic, power dressing and workwear. After that, it gets slowly more crazy, more colourful and more romantic in London and Milan until the last stop is reached: as always the highlight: Paris. And the Big Apple proved itself again this season. More suits, more office-wear, bigger statements. Yes Statements. They are big and shouty. And not even an unbelievable blizzard kept the fashion world away from the catwalks!
Of course there are plenty more Fashion Shows than the ones featured here, but I picked a few of my favorites, a few of the big ones and a few being some kind of special this time.
OSCAR DE LA RENTA
Since the loss of one of the biggest designers in fashion history, the house De La Renta had quite a trip. But finally, with the new designer duo Laura Kim and Fernando Gracia, it seems to be back on track. Velvet, powersuits, wonderful silhouettes, were updated with a youthful vibe and screaming colours.
PRABAL GURUNG
One of the big firsts moments of the statement tee this season. Being an immigrant himself, Prabal Gurung felt like he needed to make a statement about the current political mood in the US and sent out his models in tee-shirts declaring  „I am an immigrant“, „Revolution has no borders“ and others.  Also he presented some of the most beautiful sheer glitter dresses.
MONCLER GRENOBLE
One of my all time favorites of Fashion Week. Each season Moncler hosts another magical and stunning catwalk expierence, unseen before. This year they threw a magical winter wonderland ball, which looked right out of the Harry Potter winterball. Also I there were some skiing outfit - I could go green with envy!
ALEXANDER WANG
THOM BROWNE
CHOACH
VICTORIA BECKHAM
ALTUZARRA
Altuzurra always delights us with the most magical gowns, coats and prints, but this time it was just exquisite. Their collection was more than stunning, the embroidery on a next level and don’t even ask me about the velvet.
TIBI
RALPH LAUREN
MARCHESA
MICHEAL KORS
MARC JACOBS
After the "funky future like grunge vibe" we saw last season at Marc Jacobs, he now invited us to follow him back to the 90’s. Tracksuits, bling bling, hats and big coats were presented on the streets of New York.
PUBLIC SCHOOL
CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION
Probably one of the most exciting shows this season, because it’s the first glimpse of what the former Dior Designer Raf Simons created for Calvin Klein. There were suits, colourful coats covered with an extra layer of vinyl, and so much more. Big applause for this successful restart to Raf!

NYFW Calvin Klein
Tumblr media
So, Calvin Klein showed up again. On the second day of fashion week in New York we got introduced to the new Calvin Klein. Calvin Klein by Raf Simons. The   famous Raf Simons came to Calvin Klein mid-2016 and he was sepostto show his fist collection for Cavin during New York Fashion week in September. There was a lot of prasure on him because he is THE Raf Simons. people were wondering about his breakthrough by Klein, and so was I. Until the news came that Raf wasn’t going to show the collection. He dissited to pass this one because he wasn’t proud of it. only a hand full of people saw the collection in private, but nothing has every come out to the public eye. A shame because now there is a summer season without Calvin Klein.
But Friday the 10th of February was the day that Simons did show us what he could do with Klein. A-list People all came to New York to witness it, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, A$AP Rocky, Naomie Harris, Millie Bobby Brown, Connor Franta and of course Anna Wintour. The Show presented during Woman’s Fashion Week also included Men’s Fashion what made it kind of a unisex collection. with under 65 looks it’s all captured in a small and powerful collection. I had the highest hopes, as I always have, for this show.
That is was designed by Raf Simons was clear. The minimalistic 90′s that Simons loves was so clear that is was almost written on the chests of the models, who weren’t covered at all, by the way. The skinny male and female models walked the runway in totally sheer fabrics to show the world their nipples. For a winter collection you could say it was a bit inappropriate. But the coats. Oh may. The coats were amazing. Perfect tailored suit coats and fur coast all covert in sheer plastic raincoats just slightly longer to create a pleasant layering effect. There also were a lot of high turtle necks and a bunch of male/female/unisex suits, just to share, I guess.  It was a great first time collection for Raf Simons bit next time he has to impress me even more, but I think he can do that.

Upon the LMVH announcement of Hedi Slimane replacing (sob😢) MY *beloved* http://roseinaconcreteworld.tumblr.com/search/Celine Phobe Philo at Céline earlier this week, one's got to wonder: what is it with the never ending, dizzying chess moves amongst our treasured, highly esteemed industry? With the Womenswear shows just around the corner (starting Deb.8 to be exact), these stepups (and downs) are admittedly, rather disheartening. The constant House-hopping is undoubtedly keeping designers and aficionados alike on their toes. While Philo's departure was considered a longtime coming, is her rock'n'roll-inclined, rebellious substitute a good fit for the minimalist-focused Philowers? But that's a thesis for a different article.. In light of these major shakeups, breakups and makeups, I thought I'd breakdown the recent designers walkouts and fill-ins, a [precarious] little cheat sheet of some sort. Departures and replacements timeline •04/16 After his tenure at Dior Homme, Hedi Slimane exits YSL as creative director (2012). 37-year old Italian-Belgian Versus Versace alum Anthony Vaccarello takes on a few days later. •10/15 Raf Simons departs Christian Dior and is confirmed 8/16 as Calvin Klein's CD following Francisco Costa (who left in April '16). Simons' offerings are critically acclaimed and well received by the loyal CK fashionistas/fashionistos at his first show for the design label on 2/17. •7/16 Maria Grazia Chiuri leaves her co-designer position (and Pierpaolo Piccioli high & dry) at Valentino. She heads to Dior a few days later and becomes the French fashion label's first ever female Artistic Chief. Her first showcase on 9/17 is met with mixed reviews. •1/17: Clare wright Keller split with hobo heaven brand Chloe. She was there for 6 years. Previously at Pringle of Scotland, Keller then stands in the luxurious house's first Female Artistic Director following Riccardo Tisci's ebb which I'll touch on momentarily..👇🏾 •2/17: Tisci leaves Givenchy after 12 years handling the luxe label's Womenswear, Couture AND menswear collections. The London's Central Saint Martins graduate, whose Nike collabs become sportswear staples shortly after, is rumored to take the reins over at *Versace*. This statement hasn't been affirmed nor denied. Stay tuned, I guess 🤷🏾‍♀️ •3/17 After 4 years seconding Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, Natasha Ramsey Levi lands at Chloe, becoming Clare wright Keller's successor. Still keeping up? I barely can. At any rate, let's resume.. •4/17: Jenna Lyons (pictured above 👆🏾) steps down from J.Crew after 26 years as AD and president. This came out of left field. I honestly thought it was a tasteless April's fool prank 🎣🎏.Sadly it was not. Somsack Sikhounmuong takes over the American RTW brand's Head Women's design. •12/17 Jonathan Saunders resigns from DVF as Chief Creative Officer after shutting down his 10-year eponymous line back in 12/15 (exactly 2 years later. Humm🤔) He was hired in 5/16. •1/18: news report that Kim jones departs LV as Men's Artistic Director •1/21: Hedi Slimane is nominated to join Céline, effective February 1st. The designer will take on the title of Artistic, Creative & Image Director and expending the design house's Menswear, Couture and fragrance. The French-Tunisian creator is set to reveal his first collection for the brand in September during Paris Fashion Week. I couldn't go without dribbling a few gossip bits on you 'dolls 🤗✨ •I heard through the grapevine that Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi is highly considered for a position at Roberto Cavalli. This would make total sense considering their similar ingenious imPRINT. If proven to be true then this definitely gets the RIACW stamp 🕹of approval! •We shouldn't worry too long about Phoebe as it is being whispered that she is on her way to take the reins over at Burberry, replacing Christopher Bailey [who quit the U.K. house this past October]. •Rumor has it that Lanvin alumni Alber Elbaz has been taking meetings at Chanel's HQ. This makes me ecstatic as he would be perfect as Karl's heir in perpetuating his legacy. YASSSS! But it's just hearsay. You haven't heard it from me.. And let's not omit the recent (read: numerous) designer migrations to the Cities of Angels AND Lights: •The Fall' 2017 collections saw Rebecca Minkoff and Rachel Zoe staging shows in LA in disfavor of NY •1/17 Proenza Schouler's Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough announce their Paris Couture invasion, ditching NYFW's runway altogether. The dynamic designing duo combined the brand's Main RTW and Pre-fall collections proposals during the event's Spring/Summer presentations. Yeah. My head is spinning while writing these lines 😗💨 •6/17: The exodus wave 🌊 continues as Tommy Hilfiger, high off his #TommyNow affair, vanishes from the US of A🇺🇸 and flies across the pond to see what the U.K. 🇬🇧- London precisely- is all about. •7/17 Paris born and raised Joseph Altuzarra announced his return to his hometown, forlorning his adopted city. Invited by La Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la mode, he releases his Spring '18 Ready-to-Wear in September of that same year. 1/18: A. Wang deserting the Womenswear calendar. The prominent fashion designer decided he was going to chuck up the deuces ✌🏾to NYC right after his upcoming Fall'18 collection unveil in the Big Apple on Feb 10. Moreover, his Spring 2019 collection will show later on this year in June instead of September. So what exactly causes these frequent demotions, step-outs, switch-ups and relocations? Collection overload and exhaustion. 6 offerings a year can be hard on anybody, even the most zealous style superhero. On the other hand, us fashion spectators and consumers get collections shoved down our throats with no time to digest. A brand's regular calendar withdrawal could be motivated by a desire to streamline its business and refocus its efforts on design. Again, another topic for another post. An understandable reason for American labels to flee the States is global expansion. Our darling domestic brands head overseas in hopes to build and capitalize upon their international presence. Speaking of finance, these are evidently {underlined} commerce-driven decisions as well. Yes, it is good to delve into new waters, new talents that bring in fresh ideas and perspectives. But these perpetual turnarounds and trade-ins are not the beeznass, literally. Evidently, or visibly some STEADY, long-lasting and long term adjustments will have to take place in the industry. Be it producing smaller collections or targeting specific consumer demands. Until then I predict several other swaps. These ADs better pray that they won't be next on the chopping block. Oh, and Olivier if you're reading this, please remain at Balmain and keep slaying my existence. Stay there🤚🏾Do not move a single dreamy lash set of yours. I couldn't take this heartbreak 💔 What say you? Is your head spinning from all these style shifts? Or do you think that fashion change is good and is a normal part of evolution? Sounds off in the comments below! xoxo, Deb sources: fashionnista.com, fashionnetwork.com, businessoffashion.com, Harper's Bazaar, Fashion United

Rihanna Launches Fenty Beauty With Zigzag Heels and Voluminous Little Black Dress
At the Paris Sephora shop near the elegant Jardin des Tuileries, Rihanna introduced her new Fenty Beauty by Rihanna line to France just a few days ahead of Paris Fashion Week. As expected, the pop star-turned-entrepreneur wore a breathtaking look to her event. Her draped off-the-shoulder piece in black nylon by Calvin Klein was just the right length to show off her toned legs and display the no-pants trend that has taken over celebrity style this summer. Always one to have her footwear game on point, Rihanna finished her look with a attention-grabbing white patent pump that featured a zigzag cutout pattern running from the ankle strap to the pointed toe. Rihanna wearing Calvin Klein at the Fenty Beauty launch in Paris. Detail of Rihanna’s shoes. Rihanna initially launched Fenty Beauty during New York Fashion Week. The line is already available on its own retail site and from Sephora. Never failing to keep fans on their toes, Rihanna shared the day of the Paris launch that a holiday range will drop in just a couple of weeks. Holiday collection. You ready? Cindy Crawford’s mini-me daughter took Spring 2018 NYFW by storm — did she de-throne Kendall Jenner as the model of the moment? Tell us what you think. Cindy Crawford‘s look-a-like daughter made her runway debut in the Calvin Klein show on September 7, and that was just the start of a busy week for the hot new model. She continued on to open the Alexander Wang show on September 9, and rocked a colorful look at Rihanna’s Fenty X Puma show. The high profile event will see US designer Tom Ford opening the fashion week with his Spring/Summer collection today evening in a grand ceremony.
The highlight of this year features designers experimenting with their style and expression to bring a change in one of the country's most fashion conscious city.
A number of designers are now embracing plus-size models to bring in a dialogue of body love. The most recent example is that of American model Ashley Graham who is a size 16. The model became famous when she hit the catwalk for Michael Kors in February.

According to Imran Amed, founder, and editor-in-chief of London-based website Business of Fashion, "this generation expect a different kind of relationship with the brands they engage with".
This is visible in the kinds of tie-ups brands have with celebrities like Coach signing up Selena Gomez or new Burberry's campaign featuring Chinese pop star Kris Wu.
The rise of social media is another factor pushing fashion designers to go beyond the norm. The most notable fashion choices of Kardashian sisters or the Hadid sisters are now making their way to the ramp and vice-versa.

Fashion lovers will, however, miss out on some notable designers this year who have taken their designs to Paris or Los Angeles. The list includes names like Proenza Schouler and Joseph Altuzarra, Tommy Hilfiger and Rodarte.
As reported by AFP, Rene Celestin, founder of fashion show production group Obo said, "When a big name like Altuzarra announces he is leaving, it weakens New York as a creative hub a little more each time."
He attributes key factors like a disturbed political climate in the US among other important core issues that have led to a waning popularity for New York's fashion scene.
Ahmed, however, feels that this isn't necessarily a negative trend but merely a part of the change. Talking to AFP, he said, "I don't necessarily see it as part of a negative trend in New York. I just think it is a time of change.
"All of the executives are focused on something we are calling the generation gap, which is the millennial and new consumers which are going to account for about 45 percent of the luxury goods industry by 2025."
Among the well-known names, a hot favourite this year is Raf Simons' second line for Calvin Klein. The 49-year-old is considered to be one of the most talented designers among the crop who came into highlight after he joined Calvin Klein from Dior in 2016.
Ever since, the Belgian designer has been known to revamp the iconic New York brand, has redesigned its logo and transforming the Madison Avenue flagship store.
To be spotted in the fashion week are collections from Ralph Lauren to Marc Jacobs, as well as newcomers Matthew Adams Dolan or Snow Xue Ga.
