A/N: I wrote this at like 3am in the morning so excuse the mistakes- but Camila Cabello’s song has been on repeat since the day it came out and Namor’s existence only fueled my big writer’s brain. Also, BARE WITH ME BC IM FAIRLY NEW WITH THIS WHOLE TUMBLR STUFF SO IDK WTH TO USE OR DO-

I had pride in my strengths; sheltering my heart from inevitable heartbreak being my strongest, until I met him—King K’uk’ulkan, ruler of the underwater city Talokan. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t fall in love with anyone, not even someone of a similar origin. Yet, here I was, across from the one who managed to break not only my pride but my walls too. His gaze was intense, so intense that I could feel it burning my skin. The queen’s plan to trade materials for Vibranium went in one ear and out the other, both of us were too focused on each other. If she wasn’t here, I would have probably thrown all of my morals out into the sea and let him take me right then and there.

“Y/n, did you hear me?” The queen asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I could feel my face heating up from being called out so suddenly. I knew there was no way of getting out of this so I had no other choice other than to be honest…

“No, my queen, I apologize. What were you saying?“ I asked politely, trying my best to mask the evident red tint on my cheeks. She gave me a stare that looked as if she was saying, I see what’s going on here, before getting up.

“Very well then, I’ll explain everything again while you walk me to my bedroom. Goodnight, King K’uk’ulkan.” She playfully smirked, leading the way back to the palace. The whole way to the queen’s bedroom, she had that smile stuck on her face—I could only imagine what might be going through her head…

Before taking my leave back to my quarters, I made sure that she went into her room safely. The whole walk to my room felt like hours, I couldn’t shake the thought of Namor out of my head. I craved his lips, his touch, his warmth. I craved him. Opening the door to my room, I am faced with the back of the very man that had been occupying my mind since the day started.

“Namor, what are you doing here?” I asked softly, watching as he put whatever was in his hands down.

“I came to see you ki'ichpanech. I couldn’t help but notice the way you would look at me during the meeting.” He spoke with a smug grin plastered on his face as he walked towards me. I didn't know what was worse, being caught by the queen or being caught by him, either way I wanted to bury myself in a hole.

“Preposterous. You must be imagining things, I was looking at the ocean. You just so happened to be in front of it.” I scoffed, crossing my arms and turning my face away from him.

“You’re not a very good liar, and even if you were being honest your eyes tell the truth about how you really feel.” Namor exposed, gently turning my face towards his. My breathing became unsteady as I met his eyes once more, the pounding of my heart ringing in my ears.

“So allow yourself to indulge in your desires in yakunaj. We both know you so desperately want to.” He smirked as his lips hovered over mine, only mere inches away from touching and yet he chose to tease me—wanting to see me cave in. “You’re insufferable…” I shakily breathe out.

Ngl I was gonna finish this, but I’ll wait to see if it blows up🤭

002. EXTRA ORDINARY

near death experience… ex-detective, she'd been in the force for approx. 15 by the time the event took place. everybody in that building, everyone on the streets had heard rumors about the corruption running rampant within her precinct. she saw it first-hand five years into the job, a group of her colleagues in the local bar, talking about taking bribes and destroying evidence like it was nothing but an easy way to earn money. two out of the three got caught without any involvement on ara's part, but the third one slipped by the radar somehow.

derek martin, assigned to be her partner one year after his coconspirators where caught. vengeful and justice seeking as she was, ara took the opportunity to collect evidence, record his voice detailing his previous crimes and offering to cut her in. she was meticulous, careful, but a mistake was made and he discovered her plans.

the shooting happened three weeks later. four bullets discharged by her partner into her back.

power… unbreakable skin -- no bullet, knife or weapon of any kind can penetrate or pierce ara's flesh. likewise, the heat of fire can be felt but leaves no burn behind. she's still, however, susceptible to fall damage, anything that can be inhaled or swallowed, etc. she can still break bones, and they heal in the same speed as any non-powered person.

drawbacks / vulnerabilities… when the power first came, it felt like a layer of rigid plastic beneath her skin and it was felt to such a degree that her mobility was affected. likewise, she struggled to move her mouth, to blink. that eventually passed, the worst of it anyway, but she still lacks sensation. any light touch cannot be felt.

the second thing is that, for whatever reason, her empathy was affected. she was never a soft-hearted person, but even less so now, leading to a general disinterest in the concerns of other people -- even her own daughter.

codename… the name was chosen, by ara, when she took on her first gun for hire / mercenary job. obviously, she couldn't introduce herself by her real name, and she didn't care enough to think of something particularly unique or directly related to her power. nowhere works, and it fits, given that she tends to float beneath the radar, so to speak.

PLOT: crime au— rho gets woken up by his crime affiliated girlfriend coming in after something goes wrong. most nights he's asleep for her return and disposal of the evidence. it's a few days after he faced the consequences of her involvement, and he hasn't slept since because of it. he's awake this time around when she tries to sneak back in.

"If you're gonna sneak in, you might wanna try not turning on the bathroom fan when you turn on the lights." Rho's voice trickles through the quiet movements instigated by his girlfriend, but they cry out against the stillness of the apartment. It's far too big for both of them, and every ripple of their existence echoes through it. He supposed it was on purpose. After all, it made it easier to sense when something didn't quite belong by how easily anything and everything stuck out. Lifting himself out of bed, he searches for one of the shirts tossed to the floor with what little light peers from under the bathroom door. It clings to his body, and for a moment, he wonders if he'd grabbed the wrong one. Rho looks down, trying to inspect it in the dark, but there's nothing to be seen. He can feel it though, and the memory of too much of it burns in his nose and fills his mouth with the taste of copper. The bruises still hurt from that night. It seemed she had gotten to the shirt first to clean up whatever mess she had hailed from. "Do I even wanna know what I'm wearing right now?" He asks, opening the bathroom door carefully.

so which one of oll//ie’s supporters decided to send leesh’s name to that directory and how can his supporters go around saying tht ppl calling him out “have too much time” but spend time on sb’s blog to go through years worth of posts to find one (1) questionable post from four years ago and then accuse a csa survivor of..............policing how other csa survivors dealt w happened when leesh was one of the loudest voices on my dash telling ppl (inc me, a Fellow csa survivor) that we (i) could and should step back if the dash was too much (which, for me, it was)

Musings on ASOIAF Ladies and Ambition

I’ve noticed people use “ambition” to describe Sansa and Daenerys as if it’s a bad word or an insult (often called “power hungry”). Yet in the text of the series, neither of them are shown to be ambitious people as a core characteristic. I blame the series for a lot of this, because it failed to explore the internal dialogue of Sansa, Arya, and even Cersei, who ends up more humanized than either of them by the end (because of the maybe baby).

Cersei Lannister is the classic ambitious ASOIAF lady, whose point-of-view is introduced in perhaps the most iconic sentence of any introductory chapter:

She dreamt she sat the Iron Throne, high above them all.

I can’t think of a sentence in ASOIAF that better introduces the internal thoughts and view of its leading character.

In comparison, Sansa’s first sentence is receiving news about her father’s whereabouts, Daenerys is shown her new dress to meet Drogo, and Arya has crooked stitches again. Arya’s works to frame her relationship with Sansa and her internal struggle to fit the feminine Westerosi mold, while Sansa and Daenerys are setting up plot points. None of these interactions signal ambition, bad or good. Daenerys did not arrange her wedding, Sansa is just told the information by her Septa, and while Arya is aspiring to have straight stitches, that’s hardly an ambitious goal for a girl of nine.

Fans rarely, if ever, deny Cersei’s cruel, cold, often stupid ambition. In fact, it’s one of the reason people seem to love her. She’s internally open about what she wants - power - and when she wants it - now:

All of them are burning now, she told herself, savoring the thought. They are dead and burning, every one, with all their plots and schemes and betrayals. It is my day now. It is my castle and my kingdom.

- AFFC, Cersei III

The rule was hers; Cersei did not mean to give it up until Tommen came of age. I waited, so can he. I waited half my life. She had played the dutiful daughter, the blushing bride, the pliant wife. She had suffered . . . She had contended with Jon Arryn, Ned Stark, and her vile, treacherous, murderous dwarf brother, all the while promising herself that one day it would be her turn. If Margaery Tyrell thinks to cheat me of my hour in the sun, she had bloody well think again.

Cersei is the definition of a power hungry lady, scheming and cheating at every point. Yes, Sansa learned from her, but most of Sansa’s internalized lessons of Cersei’s were to do the exact opposite.

"The night's first traitors," the queen [Cersei] said, "but not the last, I fear. . . . Another lesson you should learn, if you hope to sit beside my son. . . . The only way to keep your people loyal is to make certain they fear you more than they do the enemy."

"I will remember, Your Grace," said Sansa, though she had always heard that love was a surer route to the people's loyalty than fear. If I am ever a queen, I'll make them love me.

Cersei isn’t the only POV character who views herself outside of conventional Westerosi standards and aspires to something beyond being a wife and mother. Arya Stark has ambition writ clear on the page, though it is not so cold or denying other people their rights or chances. Compared to Cersei, Arya doesn’t want everything, crown and throne and kingdom and all. She just wants something, and even that is denied to highborn women in Westeros. Even when she asks her father about her future, a man who wants to do right by his children and loves them, Eddard Stark is blinded by Westerosi patriarchy:

Arya cocked her head to one side. "Can I be a king's councillor and build castles and become the High Septon?"

"You," Ned said, kissing her lightly on the brow, "will marry a king and rule his castle, and your sons will be knights and princes and lords and, yes, perhaps even a High Septon."

- AGOT, Eddard V

With Arya in this, I see some parallels to Elaena Targaryen, who was so good at math and management she served as the secret Master of Coin while her husband carried the title. Elaena was “more willful than Rhaena, but not as beautiful as either of her sisters,” yet is also said to have been “more beautiful at age seventy than at age seventeen,” growing into herself like Arya is expected to. They both even cut their hair, Arya to hide her gender and Elaena to hide her beauty, both instances to gain freedom from captivity in the Red Keep.

Despite both these examples of ambition - Cersei’s all-encompassing, without care for how it affects the realm, and Arya’s attempt to find a place in the world outside the Westerosi model - it still becomes an insult when people speak of Daenerys and Sansa.

Critics claim Sansa is ambitious, and negatively so, because she “wants to be queen.” But this criticism misses a vital point of Sansa’s character. Unlike Cersei, she does not want to be queen because of the power and political influence, but because she will be living a song. In the start, Sansa’s got her head in the clouds, not to the dirty world of politics. Her very first chapter lays out this motivation incredibly clearly:

All she wanted was for things to be nice and pretty, the way they were in the songs.

When she thinks of Joffrey and being in love with him, it’s because he’s “handsome and gallant as any prince in the songs” (AGOT, Sansa II),

Alternatively, it has been said that Sansa is ambitious because of her claim to Winterfell. But compare how Sansa thinks of her claim to how Big Walder Frey does. Despite being far down the inheritance line, he is certain he will someday possess the Twins. He’s likely willing to kill his family to become Lord of the Crossing, and already has killed Little Walder.

In comparison, Sansa isn’t the one who realizes her claim as heir to Winterfell, even after her two younger brothers are believed dead. It’s Dontos who mentions it, and after she still thinks that Robb will have sons to inherit.

But she had not forgotten his words, either. The heir to Winterfell, she would think as she lay abed at night. It's your claim they mean to wed. Sansa had grown up with three brothers. She never thought to have a claim, but with Bran and Rickon dead . . . It doesn't matter, there's still Robb, he's a man grown now, and soon he'll wed and have a son. Anyway, Willas Tyrell will have Highgarden, what would he want with Winterfell?

Sansa’s not ready to kill Bran and Rickon if they show up. Her arc is about taking off the rose-tinted glasses and seeing reality, but also working to make reality like a song. For example, her idea of the Tournament of the Winged Knights for Sweetrobin. It’s a song come to life, all by her making. TBD how the ending goes, of course, but it shows that trajectory.

And finally, Daenerys.

Daenerys is not driven by some lifelong desire to win and dominate. She’s forced into it, a la Brienne’s “no chance and no choice.” If Daenerys were raised in a stable environment, I have a feeling she’d be much more like Sansa: dreamy, hopeful, sweet and studious. Happy.

But instead, her eyes are open.

When she’s introduced as a character, she shows an awareness for the schemes and politics of the world. She knows her brother is called the Beggar King in the Free Cities, and is doubtful of the smallfolk’s secret toasts to Viserys III that Illyrio Mopatis claims happen across Westeros.

Like Sansa and Cersei, there’s evidence of her goals, hopes, and wishes in the very first chapter:

"I don't want to be his queen," she heard herself say in a small, thin voice. "Please, please, Viserys, I don't want to, I want to go home."

. . .

Dany had only meant their rooms in Illyrio's estate, no true home surely, though all they had, but her brother did not want to hear that. There was no home there for him. Even the big house with the red door had not been home for him.

Daenerys remembers home as the house with the red door in Braavos. It’s her brother whose only home and stability was the Red Keep, not her.

Throughout her journey of power to take back the Seven Kingdoms, she is doubtful at every turn and most of her wishes are for happiness, for peace, for stability.

Dany had no wish to reduce King's Landing to a blackened ruin full of unquiet ghosts. She had supped enough on tears. I want to make my kingdom beautiful, to fill it with fat men and pretty maids and laughing children. I want my people to smile when they see me ride by, the way Viserys said they smiled for my father.

A queen I am, but my throne is made of burned bones, and it rests on quicksand. Without dragons, how could she hope to hold Meereen, much less win back Westeros?

- ADWD, Daenerys II

Even later, Daenerys is determined to bring peace to the lands she currently rules. She does plan to return to the Seven Kingdoms, but it’s not driven by pure ambition. And this is, notably, from a conversation when Prince Quentyn Nymeros Martell asks her to come back and claim them now, saying she has allies for that conquest. And still she turns him down, with promises that it will only happen eventually:

"Daenerys said. ". . . .One day I shall return to Westeros to claim my father's throne, and look to Dorne for help. But on this day the Yunkai'i have my city ringed in steel. I may die before I see my Seven Kingdoms. Hizdahr may die. Westeros may be swallowed by the waves."

- ADWD, Daenerys VII

And yet in both Sansa and Daenerys, these visions and hopes for the futures they might have are considered unbridled ambition, although they turn more on happiness and peace for themselves and their people, rather than the type of ambition Cersei has, which is clearly her own power and being heralded above everyone.

Daenerys’ thoughts in her sixth chapter of ADWD have the same energy as Sansa’s “I will make them love me.”:

"A queen must know the sufferings of her people."

. . .

A queen must listen to her people, Dany reminded herself.

Daenerys has figured out how to make her people love her, by wearing her “floppy ears” and appealing to the masses, listening to them, et cetera. She’s also a bit ahead of Sansa in the realm of ruling, to be sure.

But how are these similar thoughts ambition in either of them? It’s an attempt to empathize and connect, not to throw away and disregard and rule by force and domination. Both these ladies are more nuanced, and the fandom does them a disservice by painting them as ambitious or power-hungry when at the end for both of them, it’s a desire to have a happy, stable, loving life.

The stars seem to be encapsulated within your eyes as they twinkle brightly, shining as if you've been hit with some sort of cosmic asteroid. The joy radiating from your voice as you continue to explain your story, "My breath hitches and I can't help but squeal with glee when it stops in front of me. The muzzle pointed at my torso as I pick it up and hold it against my temple.”

Shuddering your body reacts to your words, acting as if the gun is right there placed against your head. The coldness that radiates from the feeling causes goosebumps to litter your skin, sending shivers down your spine. The impact was so strong you were able to reminiscent the feel even when it physically wasn't there and it always made you feel weak in the knees.

“Click, click, click the trigger never sets off,” You explain, the visible concern is evident on your face as you watch his expression remain the same, unimpressed. Silently he's staring you down, his eyes are dark and bitter, he doesn’t seem too amused in comparison to yourself.

Pausing you take a moment to lean forward, balancing your head atop one arm as you give him a bright smile, “...And the best part? The holster has only a single bullet loaded inside the cartridge with my name all over it.”

"You're sick," He scoffs, practically spitting his words at you. The cluster of words that flutter past his lips is laced with a mixture of disapproval, disgust and anger.

You run silent, leaning back into your chair as your smile falters. The look in your eyes is cold, you aren't satisfied with his response. In fact, it's the complete opposite of what you had expected. But you were a fool to think he'd praise you. Rolling your eyes you stare at his reflection that gleams on the surface of the glass table.

"The other Jongin wouldn't say that," You taunt him, muttering under your breath. However, you're correct with what you say. The other Jongin would love you for this, he'd help you with your self-destruction and above that, love you for it. However to the first Jongin, the one who was seated in front of you that is. This all seemed twisted and sick-minded, your morbid fascination with death doing nothing but causing him to go red. Burning with anger, as he fails to hold in his temper.

Slamming his fist onto the table you watch as the glass spider webs slightly, the surface is cracked. His reflection shattering, a perfect representation of how he felt inside. Looking upwards you meet his bitter, infuriated gaze. He's gritting his teeth, the tip of his tongue poking the inside of his cheek as he stares you down like an animal, "You did not, just say that."

"Oh but I did," You reply, shrugging off his anger as if it's nothing, "And I will keep saying it unless you decide to love me for who I am or else I'll go running to him." With that, you stand upwards. Abruptly leaving him behind, as he runs a hand through his hair in frustration.

Jongin was losing you and to no one else, but the physical embodiment of his inner demons.

his dad is quite literally terrible and among many things, a serial adulterer. the man leaves (more like kicked out at last...) when dohyun is no older than ten. nam is actually his mother’s last name, which he takes thereafter

does dohyun have daddy issues, you might ask? ermmm well, let’s just say he doesn’t even know or remember the man well enough to hate or miss him so it’s whatever

spoiled growing up b/c his family pities how he’s fatherless. but probably they’re more worried that if they don’t ‘love him enough’ (read: expensive gifts and lots of nagging) dohyun will end up like his good-for-nothing father *shudders in rich grandparent* ... but he just plays this weird leverage game with them to do whatever he wants, running around with his ragtag bands and whatnot

in reality, there’s a lot of gaslighting in both directions. an implicit cloud of blame and pity looms over dohyun’s head, like ‘damn if u didn’t pop into ur mommy’s womb, none of this would have ever happened.’ idk, he’s a living reminder of the most shameful thing that’s happened to this family. everyone’s hoping that dohyun’s not like his dad but deep inside, they kinda believe he’s fated to suck anyways...

prime piece of evidence no. 1: why the hell is he doing this rockstar thing ??? dohyun realizes it’s pretty shitty to do this to his mom and whoever else but... it just feels right. ‘music is my life’ yadada but it’s also just fun, and he thinks he’s pretty good at it. the continued chain of success and unexpected fame from his various musical stints seem to agree. sure he had to burn some bridges and breach a whole lot of trust with his family to get where he is but come on -- they thought he was going to be a huge bust anyways, no? just meeting expectations!

personality

dohyun can be... other-worldly. 4d, sure. he’s in his own realm a lot of the time. like everyone else around him is on one orbit? he’s on a one-man spaceship vibing on another. doesn’t mean he’s clueless though; he’s actually extremely perceptive (just cancer things... or the result of sussing and being sussed out by his family his entire life) but will pretend like he doesn’t notice things b/c it’s more convenient to not care

often told he has a natural charisma which helps as as a performer, i guess. but more than likely it’s just (1) his face (ngl he knows he’s pretty) or (2) people stick around b/c they want to see what wack ass shit he’s going to do or say next. definitely a bit of a showman in that regard. anyways, he’s probably a fun guy to be around?

his whole ‘larger than life’ public image is not fake per say, but dohyun in intimate settings is more of a grandpa soul than you’d think. gets very excited and also very existentially tired about things rather quickly. probably an introvert at heart who is way too talented at being an extrovert

funky antics and ‘cool kid’ vibes largely hide the fact that he does have aspirations / desires (he’s serious about his music and what he’s doing in the indie scene; ctrl is hitting big and he’s seemingly getting places) as well as really dark thoughts and insecurities shh

super open guy without actually being open. definitely that guy you think you know really well until you really start to think about it... and realize you really don’t know him at all. damn. he’ll often listen to others and lend them a shoulder to lean on or pour them a shot, but will never seek it out for himself. really his upbringing has made it difficult for him to receive affection or care without being skeptical af or feeling like he’s being pitied

he’s got a lot of growing and soul-searching to do / i’m still figuring stuff out and would love for u all to be part of it <3

wanted connections

umm page to come eventually but some quick ideas i’d like to see for dohyun:

ctrl bandmates! so many fun dynamics and moments we should figure out -- very ready to make all the other bands jealous heh

a real trooper friend and confidant who doesn’t give up on him, even when he’s being a little dodgy shit

a squad to just set hongdae on fire with -- not literally but figuratively. like live for the nights you won’t remember ayy

exes, flames, 'are we just friends?’, one-sided(?) crushes, and any variants. dohyun is entranced by the idea of love but is trash at it in practice (genetics, right? an empty excuse for his actual rship problems lol). definitely breaks hearts but gets his own smashed way harder so it’s even, okay?!

i really dig a good childhood friends trope; whether that’s like friends to lovers(?) or enemies or rivals or ‘how the hell are you two friends’ or whatever

someone he keeps running into in the most awkward or embarrassing situations only

someone who sees through his bs; and vice versa

musical collaborators, rivalries, mutual fans, anything really; “um i think i liked you better on stage / you are not what i expected” moments?

an antagonist. sorry this is vague af, but point being: i’m good with ‘negative’ plots too!
