Part I – B&S
Chapter I – I’ll always look out for you
“Here’s a cut into your forehead” Chris said surprised to Guy, once they got backstage.
“Well, that’s usually what happens when a lunatic throws a fucking car key from a 500 meters distance” Guy Berryman was sitting on a degree and Chris in the other one bellow.
“I was never good at physics” Chris admitted; Will and Jonny went to take a break and have something to eat.
“Maybe Jonny could give you a few lessons” Guy said raising his eyebrows and feeling his forehead ache by doing so; Jonny Buckland, their bandmate, was doing astrophysics and math at the university.
“Shut up” Chris said, kind of smiling, kind of worried “you are bleeding”
“It’s going to be fine” Guy said, realizing Chris concern.
“How much is it hurting in a scale from 0 to 42?”
“Around 36, I’d say”
“That’s not very good”
“It’s not that bad”
“Of course it is” Chris protested “You’re getting a scar”
“What? Me? Guy Berryman with a scar in the forehead?”
“Yeah, like Harry Potter”
“Nerd”
“I like Harry Potter”
“Yeah, I can see that, but I’m not having a scar”
“Come on, mate. It would look hot”
“Right”
“I’m serious”
“My skin is too perfect for this thing”
“True” Chris had to agree. Guy had an impeccable skin. No wonder he thought of it to write the lyrics of the song 'Yellow' “Hmm... are you sure you’re okay?”
“You asked me that a million times, Chris!! Yeah, I’m ok!”
“Don’t you need some more ice? Or even ice cream?”
Guy laughed.
“I’m good, bud, but whoever was the motherfucker who threw this thing, will have to find other way to go home”
“Holy shit” Chris said loud and surprised.
“Now can you see how stupid he actually is?”
“Really stupid. I wish we could just take his car and use it for keeping our stuff”
“That would be quite fun, since he hated us so hard and all”
Chris laughed, but then got serious.
“I’m sorry this shit happened to you”
“I was expecting it. You know, not a car key hitting my head, but something like this”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s not like we’re a hard metal band like the others in this festival, so... most people here clearly hate us, and they make it perfectly clear”
“That’s fucked up”
“That’s America” Guy said, stroking. That was the first time they were going to the United States for a show. The public was not the same as the U.K. and that was something to be careful about. The Americans only knew their single “Yellow”, because it was played in the radios non-stopping since it came out, but that didn’t mean they were completely fine with a brain new British alternative band coming to play in a festival with mainly American rock'n'roll bands.
“Do you wish we have stayed?”
“Because we were scared of some idiot Americans? Hell no!”
Chris smiled softly. Guy was brave, he always knew that, but he worried a lot about their friends safety.
“To be honest, I was scared” Chris said, without looking in his eyes “Still am”
“They’re gonna like us” Guy patted Chris shoulders “Eventually”
“You really think so?”
“Yeah, I really do” Guy said honestly, his voice soft, smiling to his friend “In fact, I am sure. Trust me, they’re just getting used to have this super young and talented new British band around”
Chris felt confidence in his words and stayed in silence.
“What are you thinking?” Guy asked
“Nothing”
Guy raised his eyebrows, in a way of saying that he knows that there’s something worrying him.
“Fine, but you’re gonna be mad... I should have stopped the show”
“What?! Are you fucking kidding?!”
“Like I said” Chris said, once Guy got euphoric.
“Why would you do that?”
“Because you got hurt!! And you matter much more than a fucking show” Chris was feeling guilt, for not protecting him from whatever threat could happen, he feeling like he was not a good friend.
“Chris, you know this is really important for me, for you, for Jonny and Will, for all of us. Yeah, it was not perfect, but we did a great job” Guy was a little off breath when he said all that “You did a great job”
Chris got in silence again. The words “you did a great job” were floating in his mind. Yeah, he was upset with the whole situating, but the incentive from his friend caused goosebumps on him.
“Hey, Chris...”
“What?”
“Thank you for looking out for me”
“I’ll always look out for you” Chris said with confidence “Let me hold this for you”
Chris went a step up, sitting right next to Guy and took the ice wrapped in a white cloth that was over Guy’s forehead. Guy felt his breath speed up and his body getting tense, but in a nice way.
“Let me take a quick look, bud”
Guy nodded.
Chris pulled the cloth back a little and brushed his wet hair off his forehead with the tip of his fingers, which made Guy feel a soft tickle.
Guy looked at him and swallowed; he couldn’t avoid with that little touch that made him feel goosebumps.
“I guess a band-aid would be nice” Chris commented “I’m gonna take some”
Guy waited, still sitting there, thinking, kind of perplexed.
“So... you’re not going to believe what I just found...”
“What?” Guy asked, curious.
“A Harry Potter band-aid!"
They laughed for minutes because of that, until Chris finally put it on him and kissed his forehead.
Chris smiled with the result.
“What?” Guy asked, suspicious.
“I like it” Chris answered with simplicity, but he meant it.
“Shut up. That’s humiliating” Guy said, but he was just joking. He didn’t give a shit about the band-aid. He would let Chris put five more of them and Chris wouldn’t mind putting more ten.
