Per il veicolo elettrico (EV) dell’anno, la mia scelta è ricaduta con ferma convinzione non solo su uno specifico modello (Seal) ma addirittura su un intero Costruttore: BYD. Bild Your Dreams (BYD) – ovvero, un Marchio da prendere in seria considerazione per il value for money incarnato dall’intera gamma del Costruttore cinese: un gigante mondiale operativo dal 1995 che nel 2023 ha venduto la ragguardevole cifra di 3 milioni di veicoli (di cui 1 milione 600 mila EV, contro i 1,8 milioni di EV venduti da Tesla che conserva così ancora per il 2023 il titolo di maggiore Costruttore di EV) con un incremento del 61,9% rispetto al 2022 (vedi relativo lancio d’agenzia Reuters: https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/chinese-ev-giant-byd-posts-62-jump-2023-vehicle-sales-2024-01-01/ ; o il relativo articolo di BBC News: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67860232 ), un colosso in grado di costruire intra moenia il 75% dei componenti delle proprie vetture – batterie incluse. Queste ultime, le cosiddette Blade, costituiscono una raffinatissima soluzione tecnologica in grado di rendere molto più sicuro viaggiare in elettrico grazie alle basse temperature (60 gradi contro i 500 gradi delle batterie tradizionali) sviluppate dalle sottili lame, blade, che vanno a comporre la struttura della batteria. V’è poi la piattaforma 3.0, specificamente progettata per veicoli elettrici, con la batteria posta nel pianale a svolgere anche funzioni strutturali – migliorando così precisione di guida e sicurezza (5 stelle Euro NCAP – 89% protezione adulti a bordo) -, con sospensioni MacPherson all’avantreno ed un raffinato sistema multibraccio (5 bracci, per la precisione) per il retrotreno. I dati relativi a BYD Seal parlano da soli: 480cm di lunghezza, 292cm di passo, 82,5kWh per la batteria – e due versioni: la Excellence AWD (trazione integrale con due motori), in grado di sviluppare ben 530cv e di accelerare da 0 a 100 km/h in 3,8 secondi, posta in vendita all’allettante cifra di 49.390,00 euro (per una vettura completa di tutto, praticamente senza optional a pagamento); e la Design RWD (trazione posteriore), in grado di sviluppare 313cv e di accelerare da 0 a 100 km/h in 5,9 secondi, posta in vendita all’altrettanto allettante cifra di 46.890,00 euro.

BYD Auto è l’unico costruttore di auto elettriche che progetta e realizza in casa tutto il necessario: motori, accumulatori, trasmissioni, unità di controllo e semiconduttori. L’azienda asiatica è sbarcata nei nostri listini con due modelli a emissioni zero: oltre alla Han c’è la suv compatta Atto 3, che abbiamo già avuto modo di guidare recentemente). Più avanti arriveranno altre due vetture a batterie: la compatta Dolphin e la berlina Seal. La BYD Han è molto aerodinamica: il suo Cx è di 0,23. Seducente il design, che mescola stilemi occidentali e orientali: davanti troviamo un cofano basso e spiovente, la fiancata ha slancio e ospita le maniglie delle porte a filo con la carrozzeria, mentre i fanali posteriori sono sottili. L’abitacolo della BYD Han appaga la vista e il tatto: abbondante l’uso della pelle, mentre le plastiche sono morbide e ben assemblate. I sedili anteriori, dalla forma sportiva ma comodi, sono riscaldabili e ventilati (così come quelli posteriori, che possono oltretutto vantare lo schienale reclinabile elettricamente). Alti e bassi, però, alla voce “spazio”. Chi si accomoda dietro ha tanti centimetri a disposizione per le gambe, ma la linea del tetto discendente ruba spazio in altezza. Il sistema multimediale della BYD Han dispone di un grande monitor di 15,6”, ma i menu non sono molto intuitivi da gestire. Il cruscotto digitale è di 12,3”, e c'è anche un terzo display di 7”, che spunta tra i sedili posteriori quando si abbassa il bracciolo: consente di controllare il climatizzatore, di azionare il tetto apribile panoramico e di scegliere fra 31 combinazioni di luci ambientali. Sorprende trovare in un’auto così grande come la BYD Han un bagagliaio così piccolo: il vano ha una capienza di soli 410 litri e oltretutto non lo si può ampliare (i sedili posteriori non si possono reclinare). Manca inoltre un vano anteriore per riporre i cavi di ricarica: bisogna metterli per forza dietro. La BYD Han scatta molto rapidamente e frena bene: il potente impianto della Brembo è di serie. In curva è piuttosto agile a dispetto delle dimensioni, ma anche nella modalità di guida Sport (più dinamica delle Normal, Eco e Snow) lo sterzo non brilla per precisione. Ottimo il comfort: l’abitacolo è ben insonorizzato e le sospensioni a controllo elettronico filtrano egregiamente le sconnessioni. La batteria da 85,4 kWh non è molto capiente se paragonata a quelle delle rivali, ma garantisce una buona autonomia: 521 km dichiarati, oltre 400 letti nel computer di bordo durante il nostro test. È di tipo LFP (litio-ferro-fosfato), poco infiammabile in caso di incidente (quando viene forata non prende immediatamente fuoco) e longeva. Non eccezionali, però, i tempi di ricarica: la BYD Han accetta 11 kW in corrente alternata e solo 120 kW in corrente continua. Questo significa che ci vogliono ben 30 minuti per passare dal 30 all’80%. La BYD Han protagonista del nostro primo contatto ha un prezzo relativamente contenuto (70.940 euro) se paragonato a quello delle altre berline di potenza simile. Valida la dotazione: oltre agli accessori che abbiamo già descritto, troviamo i cerchi in lega di 19”, la pompa di calore (che aiuta a migliorare l’autonomia nei mesi freddi) e il vano bagagli apribile elettricamente. Senza dimenticare i numerosi aiuti alla guida gestiti da otto radar, quattro telecamere a 360° e una ad alta definizione: cruise control adattativo, frenata automatica anche in retromarcia, mantenimento in corsia e sensori dell'angolo cieco. The Chinese BYD group is presenting a 3.78 meter long electric small car from its Ocean series: we are jealous here in Europe A halfway decent electric car for 10,000 or 15,000 euros: That's what many people here in Europe want. BYD is presenting such a vehicle in China: The Seagull is a small electric car with prices ranging from 78,800 to 95,800 yuan, the equivalent of around 10,000 to 13,000 euros.   The new model was presented at Auto Shanghai. And it's met with keen interest in China: The Seagull received 10,000 orders in the first 24 hours after the presentation, as CarNewsChina now reports. The Seagull is the smallest model in the "Ocean" series, which also includes the BYD Dolphin (dolphin) and the BYD Seal (seal). All three vehicles are based on the e-platform 3.0. At 3.78 meters, the Seagull is somewhere between the Fiat 500 Electric and the (discontinued) Mini Cooper SE. The height of 1.54 meters corresponds more to that of the Fiat, the Mini is about ten centimeters lower. The wheelbase is 2,500 mm. The batteries should be able to be brought back to 80 percent in 30 minutes - according to Reuters, however, from 30 to 80 percent. The car doesn't look bad for European tastes either. Above all, however, the model impressed the trade fair visitors with its low price, even for China. A Chinese analyst quoted by Reuters said he expects the Seagull to become the best-selling car in China within six months of launch. So far, the even smaller Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has played this role. The model "redefines the entire market in terms of value for money". He expects that the car will also convince overseas customers, because an affordable car is also attractive in the United States or Europe. The inside is as modern and fresh as the Seagull looks on the outside. There is a 5-inch diagonal instrument display and a 12.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. The steering wheel is slightly flattened at the bottom; there is also wireless charging for smartphones and two cup holders. BYD India’s Seal EV Receives Over 500 Bookings within 15 days of Launch!

BYD India, a prominent player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, has achieved a significant milestone with its recently launched Seal EV. Garnering over 500 bookings within a short span since its introduction to the Indian market, the Seal EV has quickly gained traction among customers. This success is attributed to several factors, including competitive pricing, a diverse portfolio, exclusive benefits, and robust warranty coverage.
The Seal EV lineup comprises three variants – Dynamic, Premium, and Performance – catering to different customer preferences and requirements. Priced competitively at $41 lakh, 245.55 lakh, and *53 lakh respectively (ex-showroom), these variants offer a blend of style, performance, and sustainability.
One of the key strategies driving BYD India's success is its expansion of the sales and service network. With a target to cover 90% of the market, BYD aims to ensure widespread accessibility to EV technology and a seamless product experience for customers across India. Alongside the Seal EV, the company also offers other models like the Atto 3 and e6, further diversifying its product lineup.
Mr. Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business at BYD India, expressed confidence in the Seal EV’s quality and competitive pricing. The overwhelming response of 500 bookings within just 15 days of the launch reflects Indian consumers’ growing interest in stylish and eco-friendly mobility solutions.
For early bird customers, BYD India has introduced exclusive benefits as part of the booking policy. These include a 7 kW home charger with installation service, a 3 kW portable charging box, a BYD Seal VTOL (Vehicle to Load) mobile power supply unit, 6 years of roadside assistance, and one complimentary inspection service.
Furthermore, the Seal EV comes with robust warranty coverage, providing customers with peace of mind. The warranty includes an 8-year or 1,60,000 km coverage (whichever is earlier) for the battery, an 8-year or 1,50,000 km coverage (whichever is earlier) for the motor and motor controller, and a 6-year or 1,50,000 km coverage (whichever is earlier) for the vehicle itself.
Safety remains a top priority for BYD, with the Seal EV already securing a 5-star crash test rating from Euro NCAP and ANCAP. With four color options available, customers can also choose a style that resonates with their preferences.
