If antis hate Killing Stalking so much because it "normalizes abuse and it's bad queer representation uwu" I'm sure they'd have a stroke while watching/reading Happy Sugar Life. It's kinda similiar to KS but it's shoujo-ai about a blood-thirsty and possessive high schooler falling in love in a loli (and we know that many antis and anti-fujoshi people see yuri as something pure and good while BL is for them only dirty fetishisation made by and for straight "females").

Happy Sugar Life is fucked up and I love it like that. Not on the same level as KS, on my opinion at least, but still very wrong and great for it. But you are absolutely right, both the manga and anime got barely any negative attention at all while everyone just couldn’t shut the fuck up about Killing Stalking despite it only existing right now as a manhwa. A part of me wants to reduce it to KS already had a hate train going that made it so much popular and trendy, not to mention the fandom of HSL is not that active here and the story was said and done in a shorter amount of time, and maybe that is a big factor, but the fact people just keep laser focusing on how pure m|m specifically HAS to be the purest while ignoring that there is nasty content for everyone else too really gives me those homophobic vibes I don’t like. It’s not just KS, it’s the general attitude they have about m|m content in general, bashing it constantly for things that are fucking easy to find on all other genres.

Aside from like the metric crap ton of instruments I mentioned in another tagged thingy, definitely just... art. Like Crocheting? Costume & stage prop fabrication? Animation? I never know what I’m doing until I just.. do it and its probably actually my favorite thing about myself.

J’aime Beaucoup Paris!

In late November last year, my dear friend and former L’Oreal colleague Michelle told me that she was going to be in Paris for Maison & Objet in January.

So, I took the opportunity to meet her there and bring Jax and Ry with me, too. This was my 4th time in Paris, but a first for both Ry and Jax.

Where to start? First, the trip wasn’t nearly long enough - we arrived Friday evening and left Monday morning but I will not complain. It is wonderful that we live in Portugal and can hop on a plane and fly merely 2 ½ hours to do a weekend in France! But, because I spent some time at Maison et Objet to do some work-related marketing research (blog post to come), that also cut into my leisure Paris time. Still, all in all, we were able to see and do a lot.

For those of you interested, here was our loose agenda:

Friday night: Arrive, eat a quick dinner by our AirBNB and head to the Eiffel Tower! Gorgeous! It is a sight to see it at night.

Saturday:

I am an early riser so I went to get pastries at Blé Sucré. It opens at 7am and I was pretty much there at 7:05am. We stayed in Le Marais near the Opéra Bastille area and I had read that Blé Sucré, located within walking distance, has some of the best croissants in Paris.

Anyway, as I was walking the gorgeous streets of Paris, and watching the sun rise in Bastille with its picturesque pink skies, I seriously channeled Rose from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and in my head, I was wondering how to convince my Abe (Ry) to drop everything and live here. This despite the fact that it was freezing. Who gets me??!?

There is just something about Paris – it is so beautiful, cultured, and sophisticated that even Michelle was saying that she feels her most beautiful in Paris. I wholeheartedly agree, and I sure am envious that she will live in Paris part-time starting in April. She already lived here for 5 years, then moved to London for 3 years, and is now back in Northern California to be closer to her parents. But soon she will be able to work remotely and live in Paris part of the year. Sounds perfect!

Anyway, after Ry and I inhaled our croissants and Jax finished his gluten-free strawberry, banana, and honey crepe that I got at Crêperie Elo Bastille, we were ready to tackle the Metro and go to Fondation Louis Vuitton to see the the approximately 120 artworks of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Fondation is fairly new as it opened in October 2014 as a space to celebrate artistic creation in all its forms. Commissioned by Bernard Arnault, the gorgeous building was designed by architectural genius Frank Gehry.

The Basquiat collection is amazing, and extensive - spread over four levels! With so many canvases available to observe, I was able to get a really good feeling of Basquiat’s works and message and was incredibly inspired. To top it off, our timing was perfect because the exhibit took place from October 3, 2018 to January 21, 2019, and we saw it on January 19th! The exhibit was supposed to end on the 14th but they extended it a few days, so when I saw that when I was still in Portugal, I booked our tickets right away to make sure to get one of the last remaining slots.

After the Basquiat exhibit, we took the metro to the Louvre. As we know, a trip to Paris is not complete without seeing the Louvre and Tour Eiffel and I wanted to make sure Ry and Jax would see these Parisian landmarks. Even though the temperatures were below freezing, we were able to walk around and grab a few photos.

After that, I hit the clothing shops! My friend Angie, a Parisian native and owner of Artisan Lofts had previously directed me to her blog with a list of her favorite stores, so I hit Sezane and the Maje outlet. But just before that, Jax and I also stopped by a Maison Georges Larnicol chocolate shop, so he was able to get some Parisian treats, too.

After all this, I left Ry and Jax and went all the way to the Parc de Expositions to go to the Maison et Objet EXPO. Amazing, beautiful, and overwhelmed with all the home design and beauty eye candy, but one of the best trade shows I’ve ever been. Stay tuned for my blog post on that!

Sunday:

On Sunday, I spent the good half of the day at M&O, after first getting Jax yet another gluten-free crepe that he loved so much and strolling to the Place de Vosges, which was peacefully empty on a quiet Sunday morning.

At M&O, I finally met up with Michelle and her work colleague Lynette, and after a few hours of walking the various halls we hadn’t already seen, we called it quits and went to Jacques Genin, the most exquisite and sophisticated chocolate and patisserie shop I’ve ever seen. Leave it to Michelle, who is the most discerning foodie, to take us to this elegant place. It was heaven! I couldn’t leave without purchasing some of their chocolates and caramels and of course, the chocolates were packed in a beautiful tin. Yes, a heavy, substantial tin box.

I also did another quick shopping stint, dropping by the hip and trendy 3 story concept store, Merci and also to Leon & Harper.

We finally went to dinner at Semilla and because it was Paris Design Week, caught this gorgeous linen lampshade street on the way to the restaurant:

Monday:

Time to head to the airport but not before waking up early to go to Du Pain et Des Idées. I swear, I will fly back to Paris just to grab more of their delicious bread and pastries. Their reputation is worth it. And because I am an early riser, I again was there when it first opened and there were no lines!

Arrowverse Re-Watch: Arrow season 1, episode 4 “An Innocent Man”

***Disclaimer: I recommend you read the tags before digging in to this review.

So I’m doing my annual Arrowverse re-watch (where I go back and watch all the Arrowverse shows in chronological order) and this year, I decided I would make these reviews/commentaries about each episode as I re-watch them.

So here goes… WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

LL: I care about the lives of other people, Oliver. Maybe you should try it sometime.

First of all...hitting it a little hard on the nose, don’t you think writers? We get it, she’s a saint, can we move on now?

Secondly, Oliver bb, why are you still carrying a torch for her? You already met wifey, you don’t need this negativity in your life.

But in all seriousness

Does anyone else think it’s interesting that when Oliver needed tech help he went to Felicity as himself and when he went to LL for legal help, he could only go as the Hood?

I mean, come on people! How much more proof do you need that Oliver and LL just aren’t right for each other? He can’t even be completely himself with her! And don’t give me any of this “he’s protecting her” bullshit because when push came to shove, Oliver didn’t have any problem telling Felicity his secret.

I just love that Felicity is so confident in her technical abilities and that she’s so unapologetic about her intelligence. When she thought she was being fired, it wasn’t because she didn’t think she was good enough at her job.

I miss the days when Felicity was the smarted person on the show and she wasn’t dumbed down to make other characters *coughC*rtiscough* look better.

I’m sure that Felicity will be back to being herself again now that Beth is in charge and MG doesn’t have his grubby, misogynistic hands all over her anymore.

LL: I think they need someone who cares about the lives of other people. Someone like you.

For fuck’s sake, the writers really don’t know the definition of subtlety do they?

Ugh who wrote this episode?

Oh okay, it was written by two writers who wrote a couple other sappy L*uriver episodes.

I just feel like, episodes like these that really shove L*uriver down your throat are all great examples of why L*uriver just doesn’t work.

Oliver: I took your advice with L*urel to be myself.

Thea: And?

Oliver: It’s helping.

Thea: I got mad relationship skills bro. Let me know if you need trendy places to propose.

First of all, Thea, that’s the wrong ship you’re boarding. You’re actually looking for the Olicity ship. But it’s okay Thea, bb, I forgive you. You weren’t the only one that mistakenly boarded the L*uriver ship before realizing that it was awful and doomed to sink.

Secondly, Oliver wasn’t himself with LL, he was the Hood. And considering how desperate Oliver is to claim that the two are totally separate, you’d think he’d realize that. If you can’t even tell her your secret, then how could you possibly think a relationship between you two would work? (And for the record, Oliver never actually told LL his secret, it was Slade. I have no doubts that Oliver was never going to tell her himself.)

Oliver: Rob. You gotta keep up.

I miss cheeky Oliver! I would ask if we could bring cheeky Oliver back in season 7, but considering that he’s spending the whole hiatus in prison, I doubt we’ll ever see cheeky Oliver again. Or maybe we will...after all, Oliver will have plenty of things to smile about in season 7.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about btw, I’m talking about the Olicity baby. David [Ramsey] confirmed that it’s gonna happen in season 7 and David never lies to us.)

Felicity: The company Mrs. Queen...Steele...Mrs. Queen-Steele? Does she hyphenate? She seems like a woman who would hyphenate.

Oh Felicity, bb, you’re so smart and I love you, but obviously she’s not “a woman who would hyphenate”. If she was, then she would be known as Moira Dearden-Queen and not Moira Queen.

In the last episode, LL could more than hold her own in a fight. Now, during this prison riot, she’s once again helpless and needs Oliver to save her.

So is LL Bl*ck C*nary or Princess Peach? Because the writers can’t seem to be able to make up their minds.

As frustrating as it is seeing Oliver waste his time pining after LL, I have to say that him almost killing an inmate for choking her isn’t entirely out of character for him.

Oh well, I just have to grit my teeth and muddle through until Oliver realizes that he can do better than LL and he stops giving her the time of day.

This moment where Oliver kills the pheasant is such a great moment and so beautifully acted by Stephen. The way he apologizes to the pheasant and how he can’t even look at it as he snaps its neck. Ugh this moment gets me every single time.

Season 1: We have solid evidence that Oliver Queen is the Hood! But wait, it’s not him after all.

Season 3: We have solid evidence that Oliver Queen is the Arrow! But wait, it’s actually Roy Harper.

Season 6: We have solid evidence that Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow! But wait, it’s actually Tommy Merlyn! Scratch that, it is Oliver Queen.

Honestly do the people of Star City even care anymore? If I lived in Star City, at this point I’d be like, jfc who fucking cares who he is can you just let him keep protecting the city?

You know how on Black Lightning, they’ll show the news interviewing random citizens of Freeland about the events going on? We need that on Arrow. I’d actually be pretty interested to hear from the regular citizens of Star City (especially the ones who actually voted for Oliver to be Mayor) on what they think about all the stuff going on.

Oh my god guys. I think I finally understand why John went so batshit crazy in season six. In this episode when John joins the team, he makes a speech about how Oliver needs someone to save him and remind him of who he is.

Well, in season 6, Oliver is finally evolved. He’s opened himself up to love by becoming a husband and a father, he’s become a true hero and a good leader. He’s mature which means John’s job of saving Oliver’s soul is complete. So John has a bit of a mid-life crisis because he feels he no longer has a purpose in life.

(This is me trying to apply logic to a completely illogical and nonsensical plot-over-characterization plot.)

Oh dear me! Oliver’s been arrested! What ever shall we do?

위켄드에서 열리는 전시는 “Boy's Love (BL)"라는 장르에 대한 일련의 예술적 탐구의 시작이다. 일본에서부터 애니 문화와 인터넷을 통해 전파되어 유행에 이르게 된 “Boy's Love (BL)” 장르는 여성 관람객을 위한 남성과 남성의 로맨틱한 관계를 일컫는다.

작가는 광저우의 SCNU 대학교와 연계된 고등학교의 애니/망가 동아리에서 “Boy's Love (BL)” 장르에 관심이 있고 재능있는 여학생들과 몇몇 남학생들과의 친분을 쌓게 되었다. 이 프로젝트는 작가와 예전 애니/망가 동아리의 구 멤버들과의 콜라보레이션이 될 것이다. 디지털 프린트 패널, 비디오, 그리고 사운드를 사용한 유머 있는 작품을 구상하며, 작가는 현재의 중국과 그 너머 다른 곳에도 존재하는 권력의 관계를 새롭게 상상하며 일상 속 느끼는 무기력함에서 탈피하고자 한다.

Here they come. These are the main characters:

Waiman-Michael(伟文-Michael) a young human entry-level actuary just out of grad-school; has serious family issues.

Z, a mysterious personification of some sort of Genetic medicine still in development.

Jake, a personification of a pornography website, extremely attractive.

Datou Dong (Big Head Dong/大头董), a very outgoing florist. human. in his forties.

The four met at a doomsday prep workshop in Shenzhen, the new world capital of hardware and since became friends. The workshop turned out to be a scam and their friendship developed into something complicated…

The show at Weekend marks the beginning of a series of artistic investigation in the tradition of Boy’s Love(BL) fiction. Originally from Japan and popularized through manga/anime subculture and the internet, Boy’s Love portrays romantic relationships between male characters for a female audience.

The artist attended the Affiliated High School of SCNU in Guangzhou where she joined the manga club and befriended many talented young women and some men who shared interests in BL. This project will be a collaboration between the artist and former members of the manga club(details to be published later). Using sense of humor, digitally printed panels, videos, and sound, the artist reimagines the power relationships in contemporary China and beyond as an attempt to escape the increasingly-felt helplessness in everyday life.

“마땅히 있어야 할 것이 빠져서 없거나 모자람”

결여는 근본적으로 욕망과 연결되어 있고, 이는 곧 반대로 모든 욕망은 결여로부터 생겨난다. 우리의 일상적인 대화에서 마땅히 있어야 할 것들의 부재에 따른 아쉬움과 그것을 갈망하는 목소리는 어디를 향해 있을까?

이번 전시에서는 동시대를 살아갈 때 마땅히 있어야 함에도 부재한 두 가지 요소를 인지하고, 이에 대해 고찰해본다. 첫째로는 사회 안에서 각 주체가 맺어가는 관계를, 둘째로는 내면의 흐름을 직관적으로 짚어가는 여정을 통해 관객들이 작품에 빗대어 자신의 삶을 성찰해 볼 수 있는 다양한 트리거(trigger)를 제시한다.

<Reveal>에는 고경호, 왕선정, 우한나x조응철 작가의 회화, 설치, 사운드 작품을 선보인다. <Trace>에는 김겨울, 최이다 작가의 회화, 비디오 작품이 전시된다. 그리고 전시와 관객을 이어주는 매개체로 <Share> 프로젝트를 진행한다. “Lack or absence of something needed”

Absence is fundamentally connected to desire as desire arouses from absence. In our daily life, in what ways do we notice, and fulfill the absence of essential elements?

This exhibition cognizes two elements that should be fundamentally satisfied, but have been missing in our life. Audience is triggered to introspect their life through relationships between entities in society, and the journey of tracing the inner flow.

<Reveal> presents Kyungho Koh, Seonjeong Wang, and Hannah WooxEungchul Cho’s painting, installation, and sound works. <Trace> features Winter Gyeoul Kim, and iida Choi’s painting and video works. A Project space <Share> is presented as a mediator between audience and the exhibition.

조나 킹의 비디오 설치 작품은 디지털 기술이 자연과 인간의 심리관계에 어떤 영향을 끼치는지를 탐구한다. 그는 허구와 사실적 이야기들을 지역 사회공동체나 배우들과 스튜디오에서 촬영한 영상들로 엮어낸다. 유토피아나 종말론적 꿈과 같은 사변적인 내러티브를 환기함으로써 작가는 최근 크게 디지털화 되고 있는 인간 생태계의 의미에 대해 질문을 던진다. 조나 킹은 2012년에 더블린의 National College of Art & Design을 수석으로 졸업하였고, 2016년에는 Columbia University에서 석사학위를 취득했다.

Jonah King’s video installations explore how digital technology is changing our psychological relationship to land. King weaves fictional and true accounts through constellations of moving images generated in the studio, with actors, or in collaboration with community groups. By invoking speculative narratives of envisioned utopias and apocalyptic dreams, he questions what it means to be human in an ecology increasingly infused with the digital. Jonah King received his BFA from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin in 2012 (valedictorian) and his MFA from Columbia University in 2016.

3/18 ~ 4/16 이희준 Heejoon Lee (b. 1988)

이희준은 서울을 기반으로 활동하며 도시 건축의 이미지와 인테리어 환경 속에서 조형적 요소들을 수집하고 재구성하여 평면적 환경을 만드는 작업을 한다. 2013년부터 그가 거주했던 홍대 일대의 건축물을 그리기 시작했고, 2014년 스코틀랜드의 글라스고 예술대학에서 석사과정을 마치고 귀국 후 공릉동 작은 공간에서 노토일렛을 운영하며 4번의 전시를 열었다. 2015년에는 중랑구 망우동 작업실에서 <Interior Nor Exterior> 회화 연작을 시작하여 현재에 이르게 되었다. 아이슬란드 아큐레이리, 영국 글라스고, 런던, 에딘버러 및 독일 베를린 등지에서 다수의 기획전시에 참여했으며 2014년 런던 사치 갤러리가 주관한 New Sensation 2014 수상 후보로 선정된 바 있다. 2016년 서울에 위치한 기고자에서 첫 개인전을 가졌다.

Heejoon Lee is a visual artist based in Seoul, South Korea. The conceptual range of his painting includes architectural structure and trendy interior objects of our time. Heejoon received his BFA in Painting and Sculpture at Hong-Ik University in 2012 and his MFA at Glassgow School of Art in 2014. His recent group exhibitions include; I DROGUM at the Art Museum of Akurey, Akurey, Iceland, Dear Green at ZK/U, Berlin, Germany, 2014 and Tipping the Line at My Occupy Time Gallery, London, UK, 2014. He was nominated in 'Jury Picks' in 100 Painters of Tomorrow(Thames & Hudson 2014) and the New Sensation 2014 by Sattchi Gallery. His first solo exhibition was held at Kigoja in Seoul, 2016.

이사라는 주로 비디오 설치 미술과 디지털 사진 작업을 하는 미술가이다. 그는 개인적인 경험이 동시대의 사회, 문화적 곤경과 어떻게 연결되는지 탐구한다. 현재 서울에서 거주하며 작업하고 있고, 2018년에 뉴욕 컬럼비아대학교 대학원에 진학할 예정이다. 2011년 로드아일랜드 스쿨 오브 디자인을 졸업하였고, 2010년에 예일대학교로부터 엘렌 배텔 스토켈 펠로우쉽을 받아 예일 노퍽 섬머 스쿨 오브 아트 앤드 뮤직을 이수하였다. 챕터투, 한국 (2016), 에치고 츠마리 아트 트리엔날레, 일본 (2015), 예술의 전당 한가람 미술관, 한국 (2013), 로저 윌리엄스 국립공원, 미국 (2011)에서 전시했다.

Yi Sa Ra (Sarah Lee) is an artist who primarily works in video installation and digital photography. Her work and research explore how her personal experiences inform social and cultural predicaments specific to our time. She currently lives and works in Seoul, and will be in New York City to attend the MFA program of Columbia University in 2018. She received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2011 and the Ellen Battell Stoeckel fellowship from Yale University to attend the Yale Summer School of Art and Music in Norfolk in 2010. Her work has been exhibited at CHAPTER II, Korea (2016), Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Japan (2015), Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul Arts Center, Korea (2013) and Roger Williams National Memorial, USA (2011).

6/10 ~ 7/9 함혜경 Hyekyung Ham (b. 1983)

함혜경은 한국에서 활동하고 있는 비디오 작가다. 그녀는 다양한 장소에서 수집된 이미지를 재구성하여 ‘누군가’의 독자적인 이야기로 만들어 내는 작업을 하고 있다. 그녀는 이미 존재하는 내러티브와 이미지를 도구로 새로운 이야기를 만드는 방식에 주목하며, 현실의 어떤 불편함, 불완전함, 언제 끝날지 모르는데 끝나버릴(린) 상황등을 나름의 방식으로 은유 한다.

Hyekyung Ham is a video artist currently working in South Korea. She collects and edits images from various places into a unique narrative of ‘someone’. By focusing on weaving new stories from already existing narratives and images as the main tool, her works represent a metaphor of discomfort and imperfection of truth, and situation which to end (or has ended) in indefinite time.

전현선은 현재 서울에 거주하며 작업하고 있다. 이화여자대학교에서 서양화를 전공하였으며 현재 동대학원을 수료했다. 이화익갤러리 (2016)와 플레이스막 (2015)에서 개인전을 열었고, 인사미술공간 (2016), 하이트컬렉션 (2015), 두산갤러리 (2015), 스페이스 K (2015) 등 다수의 그룹전에 참여하였다. 그림과 글이 담긴 <그림이 된 생각들(열림원)> 책을 출판했다.

Hyunsun Jeon lives and works in Seoul. She received her BFA in Painting and completed her master's course in Painting from Ewha Womans University. She had solo exhibitions at LEEHWAIK Gallery (2016) and Place MAK (2015). She participated in group exhibitions at Insa Art Space (2016), HITE Collection (2015), DOOSAN Gallery (2015) and Space K (2015). She also published the book Thoughts that Became Paintings (Yolimwon Publishing Group) with her paintings and writings.

2018 Weekend + 2/W 소개 2018년 위켄드와 2/W 는 하나의 고정된 디렉터쉽이 아닌 다양한 참여작가와 기획자가 공동으로 운영합니다.

앞으로 위켄드와 2/W 가 위치한 물리적 공간은 필요에 의해 유기적으로 합쳐지거나 나뉘어질 예정입니다. 더 많은 이름이 생기고 또 사라질 수도 있습니다. 공간에 관여하게 될 사람들 또한 특정한 역할이나 정체성에 얽매이지 않고 자유롭게 공간을 공유합니다.

이러한 새로운 구조를 통해 실험적이고 도전적인 작품과 기획을 마주하게 되기를, 또한 첫 전시를 하는 젊은 작가나 기획자에게는 새롭게 성장할 수 있는 틀을 스스로 구축할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대합니다.

In 2018, Weekend and 2/W will be operated by multiple curators and artists instead of a single artistic directorship.

The physical space of Weekend and 2/W will be organically structured as they could be put together or separated as needed. More identities can be added or removed, and the participating curators and artists are not bound to a particular role or identity.

With this new structure, we hope to provide an open platform where challenging young art and exhibitions of emerging artists and curators form their own frames of growth and development.
