Okay, i had this analysis in my notes for a loooooooooooong time, and idk if anyone had take a look in this aspect of Poppy Playtime/the Biggers Bodies Initiative, but is something that REALLY make me raise a eyebrow when working in the VHS for the critters.

So, let's talk about the confuse and inexplicable choices in Play.Co while creating the BBI

First of all, let leave it clear WHY they started this project.

Everywhere it said that they start it for two reasons: The first one, Ludwig's wish to revive her daughter/relative (something that worked i guess, since we have Poppy), and second reason, the one that the company care most, to reduce cost in employees with creatures that would take orders without asking questions (yay, no healthcare for the experiments!), since Play.Co was having a huge financial crisis at said moment (Again, due Ludwig draining all the money into the poppy investigations and the creation of playcare).

Okay, till then everything's right, the project started and the prototype and Poppy were created, for this analysis, let said the prototype is just like a humanoid/android amalgam, something they created to see if it was possible to bring someone to life, so they didn't care a lot about looks. Okay, good...

Then we got Boxy Boo

WHY IN THE LIVING HELLSITE WOULD YOU GIVE HIM TEETH AND CLAWS?!?!

''Oh his cartoon counterpart have it'' No, Cartoon Boxy had ONE little pointy tooth, and tiny claws, nothing this extreme.

''His purpose was to dispose any lower-ended employees aware about the Initiative.'' okay, right, first of all, gross, second of all, what they would do with him once there's no employees? 'Cause the plan was to not have more humans working in the factory at some point, this is basically the equivalent of adopting a lion to stop a mouse infestation, wasn't more easy to force everybody to give their resignation letter? Oh right, don't wanna loose those last paycheck, i see...

Okay well, such mistake with this fella, let see the next succesfull experiment-

WHY????

''His purpose was to function as part of the factory's security.'' No, no no no don't try to give me this bullshit, theres no need for the teeth, Huggy as a 8ft tall walking anomaly is enough to make any thief or tresspasser shit their pants if they saw him, the double set of pointy teeth in that big mouth of his is highly unnecessary, where they even got the teeth?!? Nor Children or human have teeth like that!!

Well, with this clear at least we can make a kind of timeline with the rest of the experiments before Catnap, 'cause we can see theres a change between teeth experiments and no teeth experiments like catnap or Mommy, maybe they learned that giving such weapon to the creatures they're trying to control isn't the most bright idea...

But still, said leasson didn't prevent them from creating the mini huggies, that remember, ARE ALSO REALLY AGRESSIVE!

And see, they weren't create for security like Huggy, no, this one were created TO PLAY WITH THE CHILDREN, but they basically break your neck if they catch you, and also, maybe is not the biggest part of them, but they have little pointy teeth too, again, why?

I can keep going: Why created a Pug-a-Pillar so big? Maybe something half the size would be good for children and less dangerous. Why give Bunzo pointy teeth if they're just a music player for a game? Why make Catnap so big if probably a half a size creature would make the same work with the red smoke? Why let Mommy so much mobility aroung the factory? She's not just the biggest experiment so far, but she also is able to free herself in any case thanks to the material she's make of, don't mention the fact that everybody knew she was hostile with adults, what, praying that there was always a child present to keep her grounded was their best idea?

Where i'm going with all of this? Well, Basically, Play.Co was doomed till the beginning with this iniciative, 'cause instead of created more physically controlled creatures or make better security systems, they basically created killing machines with plush textures to feed the sadistic mind of a mad scientist and fill the pockets of the shithead behind the administrative part of the factory, and instead of take all the security step you should take when dealing with dangerous creatures,they just treat them like emotionless toy without batteries that they could boss around without problem, and then Poppy react all shocked while retelling it.

Endint this, i hope all of the corporative and administrative members where in the factory during the hour of joy, 'cause they fucking deserved it.

The Smiling Critters Headcanons

Here are some of my personal headcanons of The Smiling Critters, cartoon version. Why I did this? Because art block.

Warning though: CatNap x DogDay ship mention

All eight of these critters have the tendency to act like their animal species or do things that only their animal species are known to do. Examples below:

DogDay can bark, he just rarely does so. But he sometimes pants like a dog, especially after a long, vigorous exercise or play. And sometimes he does the play bow when he wants to play. He mostly play bows in front of CatNap.

CatNap loves boxes, grooms himself like a cat, and will play with cat toys and laser pointers. He will knead DogDay’s belly or anything soft. And he can vocalize like a cat. Even hiss, yowl, and chatter (aka when the cat goes “ekekekekekek.”). If he does not like you, expect to get scratched.

Bobby BearHug sometimes uses trees to scratch her back. She also can climb trees with no problem!

Bubba uses his trunk when taking a bath and he sometimes trumpets.

Hoppy tends to stomp when annoyed.

Kickin can crow like a rooster, since he’s a male chicken. He crows when he is excited though or as a victory cry. He rarely clucks, but he goes “BA-GAWK” when startled/scared.

Picky squeals like a pig when she gets scared. She rarely snorts and oinks, but she does it.

Due to being a mythical equine, CraftyCorn’s ears pretty much work like the ears of a horse. The ears show her mood. Pinned back means she’s angry, annoyed, or moody. When her ears are up and moving about, she’s listening to the environment around her. Since she’s a unicorn, sometimes Crafty points her horn when she feels threatened.

CraftyCorn is shy and often draws alone. She often hides her artwork immediately someone asks what she’s drawing. She will, however, become angry when someone purposely messes up all her hard work.

PickyPiggy avoids eating chicken and pork.

Hoppy and Kickin have a friendly rivalry, especially when they’re playing sports or doing parkour.

Bubba is the nerd of the group and loves to learn new things. So much so he becomes curious a lot and asks a lot of questions.

Bobby BearHug loves hugging people, but she always asks someone first if they want a hug.

Bobby is also the love expert and is very observant once she sees that someone has a crush on another someone.

All eight of the critters can breathe their own gas like CatNap, but their gas is their respective scent. CatNap can breathe out the lavender scent instead of the poppy gas, but only when he is calm. Bobby loves to use her rose gas/scent to blow kisses.

The Critters sometimes use others’ scent as a stress reliever and not just as a way to sleep.

The critters often times get nightmares of what happens to their BBI versions.

DogDay and CatNap are best friends, but CatNap has a crush on DogDay. DogDay likes him back, but both he and CatNap are idiots. They don’t know that they both like each other. They are always coming up with excuses why they think the other doesn’t return their feelings.

All 6 other critters are aware of this and tend to tease the two when the other isn’t present.

Have any of y’all seen Barbie: The 12 Dancing Princesses? Have you seen that part where the sisters tease Genevieve for her crush on the cobbler? Yeah, imagine the Critters teasing DogDay for his crush on CatNap like that.

Since the group is 4 boys, 4 girls, the groups often have their own nights where they can hang out and chat. Boys Night and Girls Night!

Do you think sometimes Dogday tends to be woobified a bit too much in the fandom?

Okay so before I start working on my first devlog/a proper intro for NIGHTMARE FACTORY I feel like I NEED to talk about this, because like. Sometimes... Yes.

Everything that we know about DogDay is divided into two small categories: His Bigger Bodies version, who has one minute and a half of screentime, and his cartoon version, who has two minutes of screentime max. So in total everything we know about him is about four minutes total, which isn't a lot, but could be a bit worse.

BBI DogDay seems to be two things: 1 - Very Tired, and 2 - Giving up. Cartoon DogDay seems to be a charismatic leader who's also silly and sometimes a bit too much. With what we see of him during the game, it's understandable to assume that BBI DogDay was originally that cheerful cartoon DogDay before shit hit the fan, and it's also understandable how many people took him and went "okay, but what if we give some hope to this tired dude?", and assumed he would go back to being his delightful old self. Not because it's realistic, but because we as a fandom love that little guy and want to see him happy, which can often lead to making him just the cute guy who went through a lot of things but is now determined to make everything right again, forgetting that said guy could also be angry.

I'll be honest and say that I also woobfied him a bit before thinking more about him, but although I sometimes think it's too unrealistic how certain works portray him as just sunshine, rainbows and being a sad baby, I'm not annoyed by then, because honestly who doesn't want to see him happy? But also, it's a bit sad how little we have of portrayals of an angry and bitter DogDay. Is he our baby? Yes! Does he deserve to be angry and mad about things? Also yes! But we see so little of him during the game, and what we see is either him being cheerful or absolutely devastated. Combine that with him being a dog, and we have the right formula for accidental woobfication.

I think that with enough time we'll see more angry DogDay, and even angry DogDay who can also coexist and rekindle his relationship with a reformed/changed CatNap. Until then he shall remain as the Assigned Sunshine and Rainbows Baby as we all take him to fandom therapy. Tbh I'm more annoyed at how some people villanize CatNap and turn DogDay into a "pure" baby, ignoring the implied complexities of both characters in order to reduce them into very silly fandom archetypes, than at how some people just woobify the sun dog. But that's just me!

How tall are the main 4 + poppy besides each other??? (by main 4 theyre huggy mommy catnap and boxy)

Hi! Quru here, and I'll be answering the question out of character.

The characters don't really have the canon heights of their BBI versions, such as Huggy being canonically 18 feet tall. I had to size them down to be more 'human friendly'. Besides, having an 18 ft robot made out of metal suddenly stomp on someone isn't the best thing to do.

Both Molly and Boxy's sizes change depending whether or not their coils/limbs are stretched out. Boxy's maximum height is 15 ft while Molly's 20 ft. (Standing upright)

Poppy was heightened slightly since I wanted her to be at least kid height and not doll height.

The whole Elliot Ludwig podcast is a surprise and creepy thing to note. Elliot may not be the man he seems. And yet, I still wonder what this all means, did Elliot actually do it? Or was it a set up?

It was only half-true, Elliot was never blamed, the dead boy is actually the family member he lost so he blamed himself for his death:

I believe that Elliot is a good man, a family man at heart. And from his speech, he really sounds like a good guy. He wanted to make children happy, feel loved and find a place for them to belong.

I know people are already suspecting that Elliot front image of being a "perfect-family-man" is a lie to hide who he truly is, and the podcast about a dead boy in his bedroom stuffed into a duffle bag is raising some eyebrows. But, I still have a feeling that Elliot isn't at fault here.

We all know that Elliot got divorced in the 1930s, then in the 1960s a tragic family death pushed Elliot to his lowest. We never get to hear who died, many speculated it was Elliot's daughter who became the Poppy doll. But I don't think so.

I think I now know who died and what happened to them, I believe the family member Elliot lost is the boy found inside the duffle bag.

Now, I know there isn't any evidence to back this theory up, but work with me. I think that the whole podcast of Elliot being blamed and suspected for the boy's death is a lie, he was never blamed for it.

Remember, we heard the podcast when the Protagonist was dreaming after inhaling the Red Smoke and there's been some signs that the reverse audio we heard was the Protagonist talking to themselves for not being at the factory during The Hour of Joy and they came back because of survivor's guilt.

So I imagine that the podcast is Elliot's nightmare, his fear of being responsible for his lost and blaming himself for not saving the boy or being blamed for it.

I know this is a long stretch, but it's just a theory and I hope we get to know more of this in the next chapter.

The crime was just a set-up to keep the public occupied so the company can continue the experiments without getting any attention:

Now this one is I think is likely to be true. For all we know, Elliot made Playtime Co. to make toys for children to be happy. But then the experiments start to happen, in a VHS tape in Project: Playtime, Harley Sawyer (aka the Doctor/ the founder of the Bigger Body Initiative) said that people who starting to see things they shouldn't and lawsuits are coming in and out. So he propose the BBI to make giant toys to work for them.

I feel like after the whole program was in full swing, the public are starting to notice something fishy. Like the Catnap Recall, a news reporter talks about the concerns parents have about the Catnap toy because their kids start to have violent nightmares. So Playtime Co. recalled the Catnap toys, but damage was already done and I believe this became a slight problem for Playtime Co.

The company had to think up a way for the public to calm down and stay away from suspicion. And they came up with a plan.

Framing and making Elliot Ludwig, the Founder of Playtime Co. look like a sick psycho, hiding beneath his friendly-face is something worse.

I believe that Harley or Leith or someone killed a orphan boy at Playcare, took some of their bones and organs out, put him in a duffle bag then placed him inside Elliot's bedroom in his home.

And this seemed to work, with the public distracted by the new discovery of Elliot, Playtime Co. gets away with the experiments.

Elliot did kill a child, but he wasn't sick, he did it so Playtime Co. can shut down and stop the experiments:

This is a very long stretch, I know. But I think it be very unique if Elliot had no idea about the experiments and slowly overtime, he starts to notice something suspicious going on.

I imagine he investigated around for a bit, (like Rowan Stoll from the ARG) and found out about the Bigger Body Initiative. Imagine how horrified Elliot was, realizing the company was doing cruel experiments on orphans and turning them into toys. The complete opposite of what he originally wanted.

And perhaps he learned what happened to employees who knew or tried to expose Playtime Co. for it's experiments, getting killed off. And he tried to think up a good plan, any ways for him to expose the truth. But none seem to work, he knows he would end up dead, even if he was the CEO of Playtime, they could always replace him.

So, he did something he knew he would regret forever.

Killing a child inside his house.

I think Elliot did this because he knew if he did something horrible, the company would have taken some affect and perhaps it'll shut down due to the bad reputation.

And so he did it, he killed a young boy, had some of his skeleton and organs gone and stuff him into a duffle bag and placed it in his bedroom.

That's why Playtime Co. said they'll try and prove his innocents and keep his name on the brand. And I wouldn't be surprise if afterward they killed Elliot for spilling it out or turning him into a toy.

If Poppy somehow knew about Proto’s true identity before HoJ, how were her actions and attitude towards him change?

HONESTLY I think that if she knew the Prototype was Elliot Ludwig all along, she could have stopped the HoJ from happening. So...

Great Escape AU

Poppy finds out that the Prototype/Experiment 1006, who she thought was a stranger who suffered a cruel fate just for her to become alive, is actually Elliot Ludwig, her adoptive father. And, even worse: He's planning to kill everyone inside Playtime Co. in order to free all the children inside! She must stop this plan from continuing, and, after that, elaborate another one so everyone can be free: Workers and children alike.

Poppy finds out about this when Theo is turned into Catnap, after confronting Pierre about why he was burning her father's legacy to nothing. He accidentally implies Elliot had a similar fate, and, after days of investigation, Poppy has the awful realizzation that Pierre wasn't lying. Knowing the Prototype is looking after Catnap, she decides to talk to the smiling critter, just in time to make him realize that the one who saved him wasn't a higher being, but just another victim of cruelty. Now together, the two adopted siblings must try to convince Proto to stop with the violence.

And, when and if they finally do that, they must figure out a way to make everyone escape and have the authorities actually do their job well, instead of trapping everyone into another prison. Things feel so complicated, but a certain PlayCo. worker may be the savior angel the duo needs...

This is like a drama movie combined with an action movie combined with a comedy movie combined with a tragedy but it has a happy ending. Some extra thoughts:

Elliot dehumanizes PlayCo.'s workers due to all the torture he has been through. This is not an excuse to his actions, but it's a reason why he's doing what he's doing;

Catnap thinks he failed the Prototype during their escape attempt, the last thing he heard being "you have failed him". What he doesn't realize is that this was the Prototype talking to himself: He failed Theo. He failed his boy;

Catnap and Poppy have a sibling dynamic as they have in Poppy Worldwide/Save Everyone AU;

Poppy was an adult when she got turned into a doll, and despite her size, she's very protective of Catnap, knowing that in the end he's just a kid. Not that he LISTENS to her reasoning for that...

All the Smiling Critters have their BBI versions as well;

Elliot had volunteered to become the Prototype, thinking this would make the brain transfer safer for Poppy, not realizing that dr. Sawyer was trapping them both inside PlayCo. It was too late to help Poppy or himself by the time he put the pieces together;

Angel is the same one as the Poppy Worldwide/Save Everyone AU one, only younger, being on their late 20s/early 30s by the time Poppy and Catnap drag them to their plan;

More workers will eventually join the plan to help Angel, including the children of Playcare;

Elliot still has schizophrenia and still deals with a lot of hallucinations;

Poppy and Elliot were extremely close before getting turned into experiments, and once someone knows they were daughter and father, it becomes easy to spot all the habits one got from the other. These include hiding their mouths/covering their faces when laughing too much, figdeting with their fingers, and clapping two times when they want a group to pay attention to them. Catnap is also going to get these habits from them.
