There’s no character I want to hug more than Arslan. Like the poor baby, he basically only had one person growing up that treated him like a son.

I honestly loved Monferrat's death. I knew he had to die, but he was given so much respect by the manga. The way he doubts for a moment, searching for the meaning of his faith in a bloody battlefield, only to find an unmarred flower to hold on ti? *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
ID: five panels from the Arslan Senki manga. The first thrre panel shows Montferrat's eyes, then a picture of a flower, and his eyes widening at the sight. In the next panel, he cutches his religious necklace, and in the last panel a show from above shoes his hand going limp and falling near the flower. END ID

God look at Gieve in this panel
Tumblr media
Every single one of them : *sincerely kneel before the queen, faster than the speed of light*
Gieve : ............
*finally kneels down to not stand out among them*
Tumblr media
He doesn't give two fucks about royalty. Also, he finds the queen cheap, for she deducted a sum from his measly prize money :'D

I just clean my room and find my old sketches. When the hype of arslan senki (hiromu arakawa's version) i love the brother relationship between shapur and isfan. I read somewhere that isfan is the son of mistress/slave of some noble knight, the wife is jealous so she banished the mother and child to mountain. When the legitimate son come home, shapur, he immediately search his lil bro, and find him among the wolves. Apparantly his lil bro survived and raised by those wolves. Shapur then became father-brother-mentor figure to his lil bro, who in turn idolized him greatly. ... well i kinda weak for brothers stories like this (and to hiromu's elric brother too).
Tumblr media
The anime nor manga didnt focused on isfan grieve too much. But i imagine he would felt his brother dying, since maybe raised by wolves would strengthened his instinct... but maybe it's only me being dramatic, haha
Tumblr media
Isfan and gieve! They really tease me to just ship them together! (Now i think, it like madaraxtobirama kind of thing) they interaction began with gieve provoke isfan (later known that it was a part of narsus' plan to deceived enemy). But then isfan realized that gieve save them from ambush secretly. Some source told me that isfan then has major development in the novel (?) That he would tolerate gieve, because gieve killed shapur as an act of benevolence to avoid shapur being hummilated by the enemy. I kinda sab because despite quite hype (arslan senki), unfortunately, at that time there's not many fic about them...

My Opinions on Anime and Manga in Western Countries
CW: fetishization, oversexualization, racial stereotyping, as always lmk if I’m missing anything
Everytime I tell someone I'm not an avid fan of anime or manga, the usual response is shock and confusion, paired with "how?? But you're Asian!"
What hasn't occurred to them, I assume, is that those kinds of stereotypes are part of why I'm not a huge fan
Do I hate all anime and manga? No, not at all. In fact I do have a few books and shows that I enjoy, my favorite manga of all time being Arslan Senki (go check it out, the series is criminally underrated). However, I'm very picky about which ones I read and watch, and for very good reason. To be more specific, I'm not a fan of anime and manga as it's been generally received by Western countries
For the record: if you're from the Americas and like manga and anime, this is not me dogging on you. Everyone has the right to enjoy what they do, as long as they aren't harming anyone or their integrity
Now unfortunately, in my experience I've had to deal with the not harmless enjoyers more often than not
Take the first sentence of this post as an example. People always expect me to be largely enthusiastic about East Asian-originating media, despite knowing I've spent the vast majority of my life living in the middle of the US and was raised by people who are the furthest thing from Asian. I know next to nothing about my heritage or my culture and have grown up completely in American society, but even with this knowledge I'll still be met with shocked expressions when I say I've never watched whatever show or how anime isn't my favorite thing in the world. All because I look a certain way
That stereotyping attachment of race to media is just one of the many reasons I don't like anime or manga, and it unfortunately goes deeper than that
Japan already has an issue of oversexualizing women in their media, and you can see it in the skimpy outfits, big boobs, giant eyes, petite forms, and overall simping mannerisms they have towards male characters. This is by no means found in every show or book, but it's present in most. Even Arslan Senki, my favorite manga, favors putting Farangis, a priestess, in a sexualizing outfit over living up to the rest of the story's historical authenticity. With anime and manga growing more popular in the West, the impact of how women are portrayed is reflected in how people interact more and more
I can't tell you how many times I've had to hear about how people, from first dates to classmates to random strangers have fetishized Asian women because they wanted someone to live out their weird anime fantasies with. Hell, I have some stories of my own too. I've known Asian content creators who've been left creepy comments from viewers, some of which asking for them to talk in a high-pitched whiney "anime girl" voice and say a sexualized line using Japanese honorifics in a fetishizing manner. Asian cosplayers will constantly get demands to dress up in a maid outfit or cosplay certain anime characters for them to "simp" over
Even other cosplayers aren't safe from fetishizers. Other PoC cosplayers, black cosplayers especially, are consistently put on blast for cosplaying anime characters because those characters "aren't black." If it's not an Asian cosplayer, the creeps' fetishizing fantasies can't be lived up to, so they give black cosplayers shit instead. But gods forbid they do the same to white cosplayers, since being white is always the default to them apparently. How dare anyone try to give a white cosplayer shit for cosplaying a Japanese character when all anime characters are Japanese, that's unfair to them, right? But it's okay to have a double standard because the characters look white enough, right?
There was even a Japanese boxer from a few months ago that people latched onto, because apparently any East Asian guy with messy blond hair looks like Bakugo. MHA fangirls, many of which being minors, went crazy on him, making comments that are far from appropriate for that kind of interaction and fully reimagining this completely real human being as a fictional character for their own fetishizing purposes
If we're not stereotyped, we're being sexualized. The spreading influence of fetishizing Asian people only grows with the popularity of anime and manga in countries further west. It's been used to thirst, hit on, even threaten East Asian people, women especially. Our safety and comfort has been royally screwed by anime "simps" and it only continues to worsen, even more so for Asian Americans and content creators
One of the worst things about being Asian and growing up in America is how anime was the closest thing to connecting to my culture, and what did anime tell little me about being Asian? That my skin had to be pale, my eyes wide, I had to be short and curvy, and I had to sound ultra-feminine. Those were the values that the world expected out of me. Cassandra Cain was there to be my saving grace, thankfully, but the impression anime girls have on others will never be a positive or realistic one unless Japan re-evaluates its media as a whole and non-Asian viewers can find the maturity to not implement the same things on other people

Hey, ain't that a bit much? They couldn't even be assed to treat her with dignity?
Oh, who am I kidding, shouldn't have expected that from the Lusitanians.
Tumblr media
Etoile is capable of being crafty, case in point the hidden blade in their boots, but boy oh boy they haven't got a single political bone in their body. They're tackling this issue head-on, which... yeah. Not a great choice.
They're too honest for their own good.

Cool panels!
Also look at the absolute state the palace is in. No water, the walls are cracked, the floors messy and unattended... (The water problem will come up again in the future and... Dread™)

She looks so tired :(((
Tumblr media
The truth is what the ones with power want it to be. The actual truth does not matter.
It was precisely what Areyan was worried about during his stay in Ecbatana in Wolfpack.
Tumblr media
Hilmes who liberated Ecbatana being married to Irina who tried to assassinate Innocentis would've been such good PR for them both, what a match they'd make! Alas, Hilmes is, uh, having a Bad time.
It's Guiscard's fault.
I mean, not that I don't admire his ability to do such an amazing play and Hilmes did have a hand in Ecbatana's state by helping Lusitanians invade it but still. But still.
Tumblr media
Something about these two panels breaks my heart :(
Tumblr media
Lmao at Merlaine's complete bafflement. Like, imagine you're Merlaine and this Lusitanian soldier (enemy, ones who are ruining Pars even as the Zott are supposed to scoff at both country and king y'know they're still Parsian and that has to count for smth) you just met today suddenly asks about your sister like they're some nosey neighbor. His “...whyy???” here is just. So good.

Oh dear....
Tumblr media
This entire revelation of Hilmes' true parentage is so gross but what truly shook me is that it was this man's wish to kill Hilmes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Osroes was everything to Hilmes. We have seen how much he revered his father's remembrance. His pure, justly father who, he thought, got murdered by Andragorus. Apart from the murder attempt on himself, it was also his father's death that he wanted to avenge, by taking the throne. The cause of all of Hilmes' miseries was the man he devoted his life to :'(
We have seen Hilmes crumbling, panicking many times before and he fought his fears to come back stronger each time. But this time, it's different. It seems Andragorus has snatched away the very foundation of his person. What happened with Hilmes is cruel. And absurd.
Tumblr media
He's always so high and mighty so it's kind of....difficult watching him going through identity crisis like this T.T
One character that I took only as seriously as Gieve until now, caught my interest in this chapter. Yup, that's Queen Tahamineh :'D
Tumblr media
I never thought I would feel sorry for her but here we are. She's an example of a cursed beauty that people desire, use and accuse for being used at the same time. She was displaced from her roots, handed over from one king to other like an object and bore the blame for everything when the kings and kingdoms failed for whatever reasons (Note what happened in case of Lusitania). Then, she lost her only child and the ability to bear children. She couldn't do anything thing to change her own and her daughter's situation. She's been so powerless, and all of that pent up angst she let out on Arslan.
It's understandable how she would feel. What I don't understand is, though, that how could she resist loving Arslan? He had such a lovable personality even as a child. How could anyone not love him? Maybe her anger thawed at some point and she had to hardened herself consciously. She must have battled with a lot of conflicting feelings.
Anyway, Arslan did nothing to deserve such bitterness. She could, at least, have loved him as just a child, if not as a mother.
Tumblr media
Until this point, Arslan showed much understanding for her. It is only when he learns that she never tried to connect to him even as a person, let alone a son, that he finally reacts sternly. He is horrified at thought that she expected Arslan to hit someone he called his mother. And also at the reality that his supposedly mother is as ignorant of his feelings as a stranger would be.
Tumblr media
Here in this panel, she feels something other than disdain for Arslan for the first time. I think she got a glimpse of who Arslan really is.

...Gurgin and Ranna claw-nail buddies
YES 👀
Also Yoshitaka Amano's Narsus, check these out:
Tumblr media
Actually let me post the whole illustration even though it's only tangentially relevant, because it's one of my favourites.
Tumblr media
This is, by far, the most attractive version of Narsus to me. This particular illustration is from Book 10: A Gathering of Clouds.
Honestly, if I didn't already know what Amano's Narsus looks like, you could have told me this was an illustration of the Holy Master himself and I would have believed you 100%. Funnily enough, Narsus is described as having an air of evil/wickedness to his expression in this scene, where the characters are speculating about what will happen in Misr with Hilmes. It's amusing and I can't blame Narsus for having an attitude of 'wouldn't it be great if Prince Hilmes died in a foreign land and never returned to Pars to cause trouble again' but damn, the line about hoping that his boat sinks still fucking hurts me for some reason.
"Storms at sea are unpredictable. The ship may capsize, upon which poor Prince Hilmes will become shark bait, for even though his talents are outstanding, unfortunately he has alway had bad luck." Ouch.
(The insight into Daryun's view on Hilmes provokes a similar reaction in me; again, it's totally reasonable that Hilmes is an enemy who he would fight and kill on sight for more than one reason, but... the fact that despite this, Daryun feels a bit of sympathy for him because even though the hardships of his youth were in the past, as an adult, no matter what his dreams expand to, he always falls short just as he approaches success. Ouch again.)
(Let me also just share Daryun's thought that 'the fact that Prince Hilmes was born in the same era as Narsus can only be said to be his misfortune'.)
Like, objectively some of this is quite funny but I do feel saddened by the 'Hilmes sucks and he should die'-ness of it all. And it's even worse because you know Hilmes hates being pitied and they definitely are finding him pitiful here.
Clearly I am doomed to have Hilmes thoughts at the slightest provocation, I did not intend to type all this out but here we are.
