spare revenge romance recs?
Aaaabsolutely!
Try:
A Rose at Midnight by Anne Stuart. Dark historical romance. The heroine literally tries to poison the hero to death within the first couple of chapters. They knew each other when she was a teenager and she had a crush on him and her dad wanted him to marry her and take her out of France before the Revolution began, but he was like "nah I hate myself too much" and as a result she had to stay and suffer GREATLY while her family was annihilated! The beef is REAL! Super intense, super dramatic, check your triggers because a lot happens here (SA, dubcon (with the hero), general Terror stuff). It's beautifully written and I loved it and I found the romance so moving in the end. But it's rough!
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. Obviously mafia romance. Obviously I adore it. Enzo kidnaps Gia and puts her in a cage on his yacht because her brother-in-law tortured him for a month four years ago (and that was kinda revenge too, Enzo and Fausto are mafioso real housewives) as REVENGE but he doesn't realize that Gia can give as good as she gets!!! Mind games, hot sex, ridic drama, SO GOOD.
No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean. The heroine fakes her death before being forced to marry the hero's father; the hero is accidentally framed for her murder, avoids jail but has a ruined rep. Years later, he finds her alive and is like OH. FUCK. NO. A Rogue by Any Other Name is also a revenge book, but the hero is using the heroine as he tries to get revenge against someone who isn't related to her.
What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long. Alex tries to seduce and ruin Genevieve as revenge against her brother, who slept with Alex's fiancee. Genevieve figures this out pretty quickly, though, and begins using Alex to try to get the attention of the man she wants.
Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath. Mick Trewlove is a duke's illegitimate son and resents his legitimate brother, so he sets out for revenge, which includes seducing and ruining his brother's fiancee. Sadly, he does in fact.... like her a lot.
The Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe. Florence is a rich man's daughter who wants to open a casino for women and asks Clay Madden, casino owner, to mentor her. He agrees, while plotting to use her for revenge against her father.
The Winter King by C.L. Wilson. The hero conquers the heroine's kingdom as revenge for her brother killing his family; as part of a truce, she's forced to marry him, but her father in turn wants counter-revenge, it's just a lot of revenge and it's great.
The Art of Scandal by Regina Black. The heroine is a politician's wife who agrees to stay with her husband for a limited amount of time after she finds out he was cheating. She does, however, get mad and fuck the hot young guy's been flirting with in revenge. Only to find out that the guy is her frenemy's son.
King's Captive by Amber Bardan. The hero kills the heroine's father on her birthday, and then keeps her as his captive on a private island for like... three years? Lol. Now she wants to escape/get revenge, but there is a looot happening.
The Ranger by Monica McCarty. The hero is a spy for Robert the Bruce on this lord's property, and I believe the lord guy struck out against the hero's family...? Or vice versa lol. But anyway, while secretly installed on this property, the hero falls for the lord guy's daughter without her knowing who he really is and it's very ILLICIT AFFAIRS.
The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne by Elisa Braden. The heroine's brother shot the hero's brother in a duel, and the hero tricks the heroine into getting caught in a vERY compromising position with him, basically forcing her into marriage.
Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas. CLASSIC. McKenna and Aline are separated by her upper class father, McKenna is led to believe it was her idea, and he returns years later for REVENGE!!!

Excerpt Reveal - Warrior Forever by Amber Bardan
Excerpt Reveal – Warrior Forever by Amber Bardan
The most likely conclusion to my current predicament is psychosis. Much more likely than actual alien abduction. Significantly more likely than impending forced nuptials with a giant primitive alien whose society never evolved a sense of humor. But life in a horny space-barbarian’s cave isn’t all bad… Did I mention that he vibrates?

Military romance. The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston. 4 stars. Liked it. Such a great urban fantasy. Women with agency. And dogs. The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston. 4 stars. Liked it. Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs. 4 stars. Mercy in France. Promised Land by Adam Reynolds and by Adam Reynolds, Chaz Harris, Christine Luiten (Illustrator), Bo Moore(Illustrator). 5 stars. Top 5 most insane romance novel plots
oh what a good questionnn
--Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, for sure. Genius nerdy lady feels like she would've had a better life if she wasn't quite as smart and wants a baby, so she decides to get pregnant by a man she thinks is stupid, a famous quarterback. She sleeps with him twice; pokes holes in the condom the first time but thankfully that doesn't work lmao, and the next time he's just like "JESUS FINE" and goes in raw and she does get pregnant. Both of those encounters aren't like... great... which adds to the hilarity. Unfortunately for her, he is actually quite smart and catches on VERY QUICKLY LMAO.
--Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole still gets me lol. The "nice" (?) demon brother is kidnapped by his fated mate, a literal evil sorceress (we love a problematic heroine) who needs his baby but also needs him to agree to marry her so the baby is his legit heir so she just... edges him a lot...? And then after he escapes he edges HER a lot? And there's an ultimate evil who's her brother and he also wants to fuck her (this is actually disturbing even tho for the record he's never actually touched her). And she almost dies??? Because she basically has the equivalent of a magical bomb around her neck? His dick was ritualistically pierced back in the day? When he takes her virginity a magical ALTAR breaks and everyone is like ".... congratulations...?"
--I mean, The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath. Gorilla twins. OBVI.
--I meeean, the entire Thornchapel series by Sierra Simone. An orgy per book, basically? The complex love triangle that turns into a triad? Auden cries flower petals at one point? Generational sacrifice? Incest (maybe)? It's insane and it's amazing.
--I mean lol, I just recommend King's Captive by Amber Bardan. And that's INSANE. Literally begins with the hero killing the heroine's father on her birthday and then has her living on his private island while he seductively makes her steak and listens to her masturbate.

Release Day! Twice as hard by Amber Bardan
Amazon
Nook
Kobo
They caught me. Naked, shivering and dripping after a spontaneous swim in the forest. Two rugged men whose hard gazes captivated and scared me all at once. They warned me. Told me I was on private property and I needed to obey the law…or I would be punished. The idea of them both punishing me, pleasuring me, kept tormenting me. I couldn't want them. I shouldn't. But I did. I didn't mean to trespass again. I thought I could retreat without notice. But they're coming for me. To show me the pleasure in pain. To show me just how right forbidden can feel. And to love me twice as hard as I ever fantasized.
A man emerges, face pressed against the barrel of a shotgun.I fall back on my elbows. A scream tears from my lungs. The sound radiates, gaining traction in its echo around us.The gun lowers, revealing a face of molten fury. “What are you doing here?”I swallow, gasping, “I’m sorry.”“You shouldn’t be here. This is private land.”“I’m sorry.” I scramble backward across the ground on my palms. Blood roars in my ears.“I thought you were a deer. I could’ve shot you.” His gun falls the rest of the way down, pointing to the ground, but he’s no less menacing as he approaches. No less a hunter.Me no less a deer.“I could’ve killed you.”I struggle for words. “I was at the waterfall. My husband told me to come this way.”“Your husband?” He steps closer again. His dirty blond hair is cut short but ungroomed. Sandy bristles cover his jaw and continue down his neck. He isn’t as huge as the other man, but he’s plenty big enough.“You’re not wearing a ring.” He looks at my hands, pressed to the dirt, then to my chest—still damp and shirt clinging. My nipples still ridiculously hard. “You’re not wearing much.”My pulse hammers in my ears.He crouches, then reaches for me and takes my hand. My fingers shake. I tell myself only because I’m still shaken up over the gunshot. He’s done nothing wrong. I’m the one who’s half-wet trespassing on private hunting ground. He helps me up, but doesn’t let my hand go. Intuition sweeps me into electrified sense of vulnerability. Not because of my state of dress, or rather undress, but because of the power of his hand around mine.“Where would this husband of yours be?” The question could be innocent if his cool blue eyes didn’t narrow on me that way. If his voice wasn’t a silken lure, wrapping around me like an anaconda. If his features didn’t pinch with the callous assessment of a hunter lining up a shot. And maybe I could give my answer—nowhere that can help me now—if heat didn’t bubble in my blood.“He’s waiting for me in our cabin. It’s just down the hill off the main road.” My tongue darts across my dry lips. “He’s expecting me back any minute.”He’ll come looking. I let that statement, that outright lie, suggest. His gaze flicks to my mouth. “We should let you go, then.”We?I feel, rather than hear, the movement behind me. I look back. The other man, the darker man, the one I’d let see me naked, emerges from the trees.Oh, shit. My lungs freeze with foreboding, and blood rushes to my limbs, muscles twitching to flee.“This time…” He keeps my hand held tight, belying his promise to let me go. “But know this, you’re on our land. Everything on this side of the mountain down to the canyon is ours.”Steps approach, and for one heart-stopping moment I think they’ll catch me between them. Everything on this side of the mountain down to the canyon is theirs. There’s no doubt in my mind that, right now, that includes me.“We hunt here.” He releases my hand. I don’t stumble back. The other man is too close. “Wander here again and who knows what will happen to you.”“I’m sorry,” I repeat, and step sideways. “I won’t.”He smiles so wolfishly. The silly fear I first had when I set out this morning, of what wild animals might lurk in the forest, vanishes. It isn’t wild animals I have to fear. It’s wild men.“See that you don’t, Mrs.…?”I take three more steps. He wants my name? Really? I glance between them. The darker one remains as stony and silent as he’d been before. His gaze now less desperate but more intense.“Gabby.” I’m not quite brave enough to refuse to identify myself, but there’s not much you can do with a first name, especially one that’s shortened.“I’m Clarke,” the gunman says, then gestures to the other. “That’s my brother Luke.”My mouth opens. What am I supposed to say, nice to meet you? They threatened me then told me their names. Why?“Goodbye,” I say, then spin and run as though my motherfucking life depends on it.Sure feels like it does.

Hey - I'm hoping to recommend a few romance novels to my partner to try and read together. Do you know of any that might be like Yakuza the video game series? Thanks in advance!
So, unfortunately I haven't read any Yakuza romance novels. However, mafia romance may offer something similar, and that's a pretty popular subgenre that I've started dipping my toe into. Admittedly, there's a lot of... bleh stuff out there, but! Based on the video game, I'd recommend checking out:
Kings of Italy by Mila Finelli. This 5.5-book series (one duology, three standalones, one novella) is so good, and it's one of the only mafia romance series that focuses on the Italian mafia, versus the Italian-American mafia. Which makes it much more high stakes, to me. This series is VERY racy (as most mafia romances are) and very fun. A good amount of action, murder, "muahaha-ing", assassin heroes, the works. Most of them are m/f, but one book and the novella are m/m.
Kresley Cole's Gamemaker trilogy is Russian mafia (the first book more so than the other two, though all the characters end up connected to the life). Kinda crazy heroes, much money, a good amount of violence, general intensity.
King's Captive by Amber Bardan isn't exactly mafia (though it's not... not) but it begins with a high-octane murder fest and goes from there. TRULY insane.
