What are you wearing: pajamas that would not be out of place on a Repressed Young Man in mid-century period drama (look, I know, but I’m leaning into it)

Dream jobs: ha! well, I’ve managed to beat the odds and become a full-time academic, at least temporarily, and that is, perhaps alarmingly, what I wanted to do since about the age of 12

Dream trip: I want to go up the Nile, and I want to travel the Silk Road, and I want to see Moscow and St. Petersburg and the Trans-Siberian Railway. Also, I want to see the architecture and the ghats and the jungles of India, and eat my weight in as many regional cuisines as I can while doing it.

Instruments you play: the piano, badly

Languages you speak: English and German (well); French (decently); Italian and Spanish (poorly); Dutch, Polish, and Czech, just about enough to get food & directions in; Welsh worse than that.
