Brennan showing absolutely perfect the danger kids are in when the people in their life don't show them love and affection enough. So originally I was just going to make the full body design drawing since this artwork I made here isn't full body, here's that drawing in case you're curious:

So, I made a full body one and then got carried away and made Grillby and Fuku too, I still don't know how the arms work AT ALL but ehh... Whatever

I don't have too much info on Grillby and Fuku as AU Characters but I do have a bit on Muffet so here's that below the cut:

She graduated from a high school in snowdin and went to Hotland’s culinary school for her higher education, as soon as she graduated she took out a business loan and opened her bakery parlor.

Not much of Muffet’s early life is known, but we do know she lived with her grandmother, Little Miss Patience though it's unknown if her parent(s) were still in the picture, though we do know her mother's name is Little Miss Mactan, as in Latrodectus mactans (Black Widow), implying that if Muffet had another parent that Mactan probably ate them and the reason she isn't in the picture anymore is that she is serving jail time.

Muffet did meet Papyrus when she was 7 and he was in his 30s-40s at that time when he was working part-time as a babysitter, and at some point Muffet met Grillby but it's unknown exactly when.

During the Underground Civil War, her Parlor was temporarily closed down and she made food and supplies for the war effort.

Muffet is extremely skilled in martial arts and likes to use a fighting technique that incorporates elements of dance.

Before the barrier went up, Muffet’s Family originated from, what is now, the human country of France. We know that Muffet has a lot of tiny spiders that aren’t the same race nor monster type as her being from the Creature Type, but she does consider them her children, and no, they are not the ones she serves to others to eat, those are actual, real, living, exoskeleton and blood spiders not monsters who look and act like spiders, we know this because if they were monster spiders, she won’t be able to cook or bake them into anything as they’ll just turn into dust and dust doesn’t taste good.

We also know Muffet came from a longline of tailors and seamstresses, but Muffet chose to pursue baking and went to culinary school, however Muffet is still a natural tailor and is very good at making clothing, even making clothes to support the war effort during the Underground civil war.

We don’t know what Muffet’s pet is, we do know it’s not a species part of the Supernatural Order, so it’s likely just a familiar, though if it is, it's unknown if she is the one who conjured it or it was just passed down through generations.

- mother goose failing his charisma check and being consumed, the book and all its pages swallowed into the gullet of a woman hungry for more stories, more children - muffet, the spider, pinocchio, ylfa, every person timothy has taken under his wing to give protection and support; or just a little bit of light in these times of shadow, watching as his body slumps to the ground, missing from the chest down -

- the saliva pouring out of a squirming mass of tongue and teeth, softening the pages of his book, making them damp, malleable -

- a new thing taking form, glistening soft red flesh twisting and writhing until an old man once again stands before them, crouching over the empty headless body that was once a friend -

EAH Dorm Rooms Headcanons pt 21

Supporting Cast Addition

You know them, you love them, you wished you had character info/ doll of them! It's the supporting characters of EAH!

During EAH run there were many background characters in the show and book that we were curious about. Sadly, some stayed on the pages of the book series or had a limit screen time in the webseries.

I will not do all of the background characters because that would take too long.

Prudence and Charlotte Dorm

Both girls have wicked destinies, but one just wants to dance and the other just wants to play sports.

Prudence and Charlotte Step are Ashlynn's future stepsisters (step cousins) and are destined to be cruel to Ashlynn once the current Cinderella dies and her father marries one of the Evil Step-Librarians.

When, they were first introduced in 'Ashlynn Fashion Frolic' where they hijack Ashlynn's fashion show. In the end they get their karma when Ashlynn's curse turns the designer gowns into potato sacks leaving the sisters humiliate and punished by Headmaster Grimm by putting on a show without his permission and making a mess in the cafeteria.

Like most siblings Prudence and Charlotte share a room both at home and at school.

Due to Ashlynn's destiny she cleans their room and makes their outfits for them. Luckily Ashlynn has her friends and woodland critters to help her. When they befriend Ashlynn they clean their room themselves.

Their room is messy on purpose so Ashlynn will have a hard time cleaning up. Between the Wonderlanders and Sparrow Hood they're in the middle. Sparrow being 1st place, the Steps being 2nd place, and the Wonderlanders being 3rd place.

Their dorm is either the same size as Ashlynn & Briar or Duchess and Lizzie. It's a mixture of both elegant and tacky with a ton of gold motifs. Their canopy beds, vanity sets, and other furniture is made of gold.

Thier divider walls would have pictures of themselves, friends, mother, and aunt. It's not until they become friends with Ashlynn do they add her to the mix.

Prudence (the purple one) has a love for dancing despite not being good at it. Her side of the dorm has a ballet bar, a lot of cds to dance to, and a lot of space to dance.

Charlotte (the red one) has a love of football (and maybe other sports) and has football equipment, trophies, and exercise gear on her side of the dorm.

Lilly-Bo and Muffy's dorm

One loses her sheep every two seconds and one loses her curds after getting scared by a spider.

Both girls are from popular nursery rhymes and have animal companions in their tales.

I'm gonna be honest the reason I paired these two together was because of the pastel aesthetic they had going on with Lilly-Bo having a cottagecore and Muffy maybe having a pastel goth vibe.

Lilly-Bo's side of the dorm:

Lilly-Bo is the future Little Bo Peep and is doing a great job of that by losing her sheep. Not much is known about her due to being a background character except her best friend is the son of the Hero of Haarlem and she loses her sheep.

Lilly-Bo has a total of five sheep whom she cares for despite losing them. Due to their size and how many there are they sleep in the stable like the other large pets at night but can roam around the school with Lilly-Bo during the day.

Lilly-Bo's side of the dorm has a pastel and cottagecore vibe.

Her side of the dorm is filled with sheep motifs. She would have a collection of sheep plushies.

She owns a ton of running shoes to keep up with her sheep and owns a few trophies from track and field.

Due to her destiny Lilly-Bo as a collection of crooks and bonnets for every occasion. She even has bonnets for her sheep.

Muffy's side of the dorm:

Muffy is the future Little Miss Muffet who'll eat curds and whey and gets scared off by a spider. Not much is known about her due to her appearing late in the series, what is known is she's a good business woman with a love of spiders and yo-curd.

Muffy doesn't fear Mr. Spider and are in fact business partners seeing as she runs a frozen yo-curd buisiness.

Mr. Spider is a family fan and a lot of Muffy's products (like the cup she holds above) are inspired by him.

Like I said above about Mr. Spider being an influence of Muffy most of her furniture and clothes have spiderweb designs on them.

She totally has fairy lights and many tuffets throughout her side of the dorm.

She most likely isn't in her dorm that much due to running her business. She mainly uses it for homework, sleep, and to come up with new flavors for her yo-curd stand.

Harley's side of the dorm:

He's the son of a hero who saved the town by flooding with his thumb and is living up to his destiny when he's not distracted.

Not much is known about her due to being a background character except her best friend is Lilly-Bo, he's in Apple's fan club, and he plugs up leaks.

Due to his story, he takes pride in his Dutch heritage and has Dutch design and his room and tulips.

For the sake of irony, he has a waterbed that leaks a lot.

Lilly-Bo gives him blankets and sweaters that are made from her sheep's wool. Harley treasures them and finds them super comfy.

Due to always stopping leaks, Harley has nail kit and bandages to fix broken nails and hand masks to give his hands a break.

He also has repair kits with tape and cement to fix leaks himself.

He's a huge fan of Apple White and has posters and autographs of her surrounding his room.

Tiny's side of the dorm:

He's a giant with a heart as big as he is.

Tiny is the future Giant in Jack and the Beanstalk and despite being the antagonist he's a big sweetheart.

Being the tallest student at Ever After High School he has the biggest dorm in the school, tower, or stays above the clouds in a beanstalk.

His bed is made out of clouds and is one of the softest beds in school.

Before Headmaster Grimm sabotaged him Tiny was on the same dance level as Duchess, and he is very athletic to be on the school's football team. So, his dorm room is big enough for him to move around.

Tiny is athletic and is on many sports teams so he has a case full of trophies, but being a giant the trophies are tiny and are in a little case like a collector with tiny porcelain dolls.

Lily White's side of the dorm:

She's a chess piece set to be queen.

Lily only appeared briefly in 'Way Too Wonderland' so not much is known about her.

Like the other Wonderlanders she is messy most likely doesn't have a roommate due to arriving so late in the year.

Her room is designed like a chess board and chess motifs throughout her room.

Has a canopy bed and other chess furniture.

She'd be into chess and croquet so she has the equipment in her room.

Three Little Pigs and Three Billy Goats Gruff :

Two sets of brothers (maybe triplets) who supply the comic relief in the series.

Both were seen in the beginning of the series until the show decided to replace the Three Little Pigs for the Three Billy Goats Gruff for some strange reason. In my opinion they should've kept both and make them have a rivalry with each other (especially the smallest of the groups).

While the school normally has two to a dorm room the Three Little Pigs and Three Billy Goats Gruff's are the only ones with three to a dorm.

They have triple bunkbeds with the youngest at the top bunk and oldest at the bottom bunk.

Since they're the shortest students their dorm is the same size as Duchess & Lizzie, Cupid & Blondie, or Ramona & Justine.

The room is divided in three sections so each pig and goat gets his own space.

Raphael’s character and a lot of references to Ancient Greek mythology/history

Ok, so there’s some really obvious ones like, I think there’s some story in the game about a bard winning over a devil that he likes, which is a clear reference to Orpheus and Eurydice (also Raphael holds the power to free Orpheus in the game, like hades being able to free Eurydice) also hope being a parallel to Persephone 👁️👁️.

Besides the little things like that, I’ve noticed his character kinda resembles Alexander the Great, LEMME EXPLAIN FIRST

Raphael as we all know really wants the crown of Karsus, and knows alot abt the guy (he was even there when he failed, or when the city fell) , and maybe admires what he managed to accomplish to some extent and he kinda even models his house on his work, as they both float in the sky (also gonna make the obvious connections to Icarus here) and Raphael “believes” he should rule the hells and that he could end the blood war ect etc… and he’s so great, anyway.

Now Alexander was similar in that he too believed he should rule the world/Persia or Asia (debatable which) and he also admired someone with a great “folly” which was Achilles, whose weakness was yknow his Achilles, and Alexander basically modelled his life after this guy too, so he’s a bit more extreme than Raphael, like man carried the illiad wherever he went, but it shows he’s a fan of literature and epics, like Raphael.

Also, Alexander is supposedly of “half divinity” or whatever, he believed he was the son of Zeus or at least more than just a human, which Raphael is, but I suppose less Divine in his case.

Another thing is, Alexander also was kinda a dick, in that in his pursuit to conquer he also sieged the city of Thebes which was also a Greek city state, like he says he later regretted it but still. Also during his siege he did let some people live, like some ppl in a temple of Heracles (another idol of his) and a woman who attacked some soldiers after being assaulted and he was impressed by her or something. Ithaca wasn’t the only place he sieged, later in Babylon during a party some girl convinced him to siege a city and burn it, he did lol. Alexander wasn’t a great person, also a conqueror so there’s that.

Raphael, is obviously not a good person but it’s hard to say he isn’t somewhat likeable or has his moments, korilla even says so herself, that’s he a much kinder boss than she’s had before, especially for a devil. Though in the end, Raphael still wants to conquer, and not just the hells, he says that he’ll go further and conquer other “worlds”

(Also the attack on Thebes was one of Alexander’s first key victories, but it was on his own country, unlike everything that he attacks after, which yknow is like Raphael starting his attack in the hells then moving outward)

Also just gonna mention it here, but it’s been said loads, when Raphael dies, it’s a total reference to Kronos eating his children, as Raphael gets nommed on by his father.

There are totally more references and especially to other cultures, like his cat/mouse rhymes kinda remind me of Hickory Dickory Dock and his miss tuffet being miss miss muffet, but my guy is totally Italian/Greek? Coded, like it’s hard to believe otherwise.

Maybe the similarities to Alexander are a bit out there, a lot of “leaders” or “greats” were like that. Anyway, I’m probably missing more references but that’s all I couldn’t remember off the bat.

EDIT: To be fair though, maybe he’s more of a Julius Caesar, since Alexander was quite young when he died and Julius was said to have cried in front of a statue of Alexander since he accomplished so much more than him in his youth, since most of caesars big stuff was later in his life, but like I said you can find similarities with a bunch of other similar dictatory guys,

EDIT 2:

He is so Julius Caesar coded;

"All the Gauls did Caesar vanquish, Nicomedes vanquished him;

Lo! now Caesar rides in triumph, victor over all the Gauls,

Nicomedes does not triumph, who subdued the conqueror."

This is supposedly a song that Caesar's soldiers sang making fun of how he was a bottom, Caesar conquered Bithynia but Nicomedes conquered Caesar. LIKE, the parallels are there, friends.

Happily Ever After Headcanons

Because I think it's my favorite Cybersite. Keep in mind I'm mostly making this up for fun.

The site is called Happily Ever After, and it's main kingdom is called Happily Ever Afterville. The site is sometimes referred to as 'far, far away,' especially by the old fashioned.

Afterville is ruled by Old King Cole, who is a merry ol' soul.

Every resident of the site is Organic. They were not created or built but born.

Residents who are a part of a story are called Characters. This would be Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, the Golden Goose, Little Miss Muffet, etc.

Those who live in HEA but have no story, no role beyond a face in the crowd are referred to as "vignettes." Some Vignettes may leave HEA for other cybersites.

Characters have a natural urge to stay on the Cybersite and a duty to fulfill their story.

The only one who understands this urge outside of the denizens themself is Motherboard, who created all sites. Some believe if too many Characters refuse to play out their story, then the cybersite will fall apart.

A new hero, villain, and other storybook character is born every other generation to fulfill their story.

It is commonly believed that only residents of HEA can be storybook characters, but this is untrue. Faith will bring the hero, villain, sidekick, or whoever to the land of far, far away. They may be of Happily Ever After descent, but it's been found this is not required.

There has been only ONE Earthlie, however, who fulfilled the role of a story, and this was Dorothy.

There had only been one Story that took place off of Happily Ever After, which was Alice's. She went through a rogue portal to an unknown cybersite that can only be described as 'mad.'

Stories rarely end the exact same. They rarely play out the exact same either for that matter. One generation's Evil Queen may be just that without remorse while the other's is seen as a saint. Only the battle between a hero and villain is guaranteed, not the outcome.

HEA is very forgiving, their villains no matter what they've done are always welcomed and given a second chance. There may be some time when people fear them, but eventually they'll be forgiven and allowed to live in peace if they so choose. This is why Wicked, Wolf and the Giant can be around everyone without much of a fuss. Spider had just recently frightened Miss Muffet and so was still recovering socially.

HEA is considered one of the friendlier sites. But it may depend which part of it you visit.

The technology on HEA is limited, they don't believe in most except for emergencies. They like their horse-drawn carriages and fire during the winters.

They do, however, so adore their music, they regularly use speakers, microphones, and even electric instruments. They still adore their acoustic sounds, but they do love feeling the music right through to their bones in a gathering.

TVs are mostly for keeping up with news outside of the site. It's normal for only one person in an area to own one and allow others to watch when something important is going on.

Phones are scarce, because it used to be easy to contact Motherboard since she had an eye over everything. It proves more and more difficult however in times of crisis to reach her given her condition.

Cyberspace's universal bus system does make stops at HEA, so many do not need to own a ship. Many Kings, Queens and Rulers have their own in case of an emergency, however. Some that are so kind even have many in case of their kingdom's need to evacuate.

HEA has a mixture of medieval and modern food. They make everything by scratch but aren't afraid to make their soda pop or import out of seasoned veggies.

HEA is the most Earth-like cybersite there is. Their animals looks the closest to what they look like on Earth, there are [mostly] humans, and the greenery is the most complex in all of Cyberspace.

Residents speak like any one else does in Cyberspace. Some may visit thinking they speak Ye Olde Tongue, but that's not the case. You may find they have a vocabulary as hip as a Radster.

The Olde Tongue is actually much more complex than inserting "thy" and "thou" in your speech and is near impossible to understand nowadays. There's only one resident who seems to struggle to adapt...

Character Specific Headcanons

Jack, of Jack and the beanstalk, is now a full grown man and King Cole's most trusted help. He keeps track of the king's schedule and helps keep everyone calm in times of crisis. He's still known to be irresponsible despite trying his best. King Cole is seen as foolish for many reasons and his choice of help is one of them.

Red Riding Hood is one of the few borg of HEA. She has a glitch that makes it difficult for her to recognize faces, making her perfect for her story's role. She keeps her hood up to hide the back of her head, which is the most borg-like part of her appearance.

Spider appears friendly, and is, but has a horrible set of teeth and fangs. When he sat beside Little Miss Muffet, he sneezed. He looked so horrific it frightened her away and everyone grew fearful of Spider in "Counted Happily Ever After."

The Big Bad Wolf is the runt of his family, with three older brothers, two younger ones and a little sister, who all resemble wolves from Earth. Wolf is the only one who can stand on two legs, has thumbs, and can huff and puff so hard he'll knock you down.

Wicked is a wonderful example of how HEA's natural order can be broken.

The path feels wrong under Ylfa’s feet.

It always has, but that feeling used to live only in her mind, and now it’s infected her body too. It’s easier to accept, the same way a broken bone is easier to accept than fractures of the brain.

She goes onto all fours and into the forest, understanding its danger in a way she didn’t the last time she made this choice. It still feels like home: the texture of the leaves reminds her of her grandmother’s quilt, the noise of the animals reminds her of her grandmother cursing during gin rummy, the smell of the trees reminds her of her grandmother’s cinnamon toast rolls.

She gathers and hoards the memories, because she knows what she has to give, and she knows the Baba Yaga knows it too.

Ylfa is distracted by a young girl on the path, bright red cloak standing out against the green of the forest. She watches her eye the wildflowers, and wonders what they remind the girl of. Maybe it’s not something she knows yet; maybe it’s a promise of her future rather than relic of her past.

Ylfa blows the girl off the path, and questions if Death did the same to her. Perhaps she needed a reminder of what was to come to make the right choice for herself.

She chats with the girl, and she is as familiar as the forest. She asks her name, and the girl cannot say it.

Ylfa remembers watching The Stepmother eat her grandmother, the second time she’d watched her be consumed. Strangely, she seems like more of a person now that Ylfa sees her as a girl than when she only knew her as her grandmother. She may not have a name in this story, but she still matters in it, and in Ylfa’s story yet to come. Ylfa takes comfort in that.

Ylfa understands her role as her grandmother leads her to her own grandmother’s house. If she is Death, she is glad to walk alongside the one person who won’t judge her for being that. They see the wolf in you and they love it too. You’re not a monster. You’re not.

Though, she was speaking of Ylfa’s friends, and they’ve confirmed what her grandmother said. Rosamund insisted they stray together. The frog prince—Ylfa can’t vocalize his name in her mind, and she can’t think about why right now—told her that maybe she is exactly who she needs to be to survive in this world. Pib not only rescued her, but sat with her after he did. Timothy told her she could never overstay her welcome. Pinocchio started snowball fights with her, and that was classic preteen friend—maybe even crush?—behaviour.

In holding onto her grandmother’s memory, Ylfa was also holding onto who she is to her grandmother. A rebellious child, who does not follow the path the world wants her to, but is loved all the same. She wants to be someone who loves like that, and when she considers her love for not only her friends, but Little Miss Muffet, Mira, The Golden Goose, and even The Big Bad Wolf itself, she hopes she’s making her grandmother proud. She hopes she’ll continue to even after she forgets who her inspiration is.

If that is who she can be as Death, she is glad she will be the one to walk people to the end of the path.

okay folks i spent last night on the dropout discord not sleeping until i finished Puzzling the spells from timothy’s book so here’s what we’ve got:

jump from jack be nimble for obvious reasons

expeditious retreat from cinderella because she ran away from the ball and i know everyone thinks its jack and the beanstalk but as far as i, a fool, can tell, jack and the beanstalk never went into the book

lesser restoration from old king cole because brennan literally states that the old king cole rhyme grants tim the spell lesser restoration

calm emotions from the unfinished hey diddle diddle nursery rhyme (the cow jumped over the moon, the dish ran away with the spoon) i guess mostly just because of process of elimination—the spider from little miss muffet went to scheherezade, sleeping beauty wasn’t in the book yet i don’t think, drosselmeyer didn’t get written in the book he just disappeared

and then itsy bitsy spider granted a spell that was too high level—timothy is a level 4 bard and therefore knows up to level 2 spells. web (the most spidery spell) and spider climb (which would make some sense for itsy bitsy) are both level 2 spells, so it can’t be either of those. i think it’s probably water walk, a level 3 spell, because for me at least, that makes more sense than some kind of weather control like people were theorizing

also a lot of people were saying silvery barbs came from senator the ram but senator is first of all, part of king cole’s story, and second of all, tim had silvery barbs before they even met senator (he tried to use it when one of bandlebridge’s guys was yelling at pinocchio), and also silvery barbs wasnt one of the ones ally listed as tim getting them from the book

Spelled (Carlos de Vil x Sanderson Daughter)- Ch. 2: Uh-Oh

This evening’s supper is dripping with awkward silence, and it’s only until after I’ve nearly finished my Shepard's pie that my father finally speaks.

“Magica, how would you like to come with me to the village tomorrow?”

My heart nearly stops and I cough out my food. “What?”

Dad gives a hearty laugh at my response. “Well I’ve been thinking, and it’s probably alright that you should be socializing more instead of walking in the woods all the time.”

I suppress a cringe in order to avoid revealing my secret magic schooling sessions with Binx.

“But… I like the woods. Isolation is my friend, dad!” I say almost too positively with a wide smile.

He gives me an odd look but continues. “Yes, but it’ll be nice for you to be with kids your age. Just like how you and Ben like to hang out!”

I grunt. “Ben’s the only one who doesn’t act like an arrogant fool. Why should I bother when I’ll always be different? Why can’t I just go with you and do errands, father?”

“Magica, you can’t always go with me to avoid social interaction.”

A wicked grin spreads on my face. “Why socialize with those hooligans when I could be causing mischief with Ben?”

Now my father stops eating and rubs his forehead. “As much as I’m glad about your special friendship, running a-muck with Ben isn’t always the best idea, Magica.”

The word triggers a gleeful smile on my face and I start clapping. “A-muck! A-muck! A-muck! A-muck! A-muck!”

Dad groans. “Ugh. You definitely get that from your mother. Never could stop chanting about causing shenanigans.”

The next morning I gather some rolls and apples for the walk to the village, as well as a few odds and ends materials for spells in case I need them. In no time at all we’ve reached the village limits when father pulls me over.

“Now Magica, I need you to really keep a lid on your magic. Stay calm and focused, and remember your temper.”

Ah yes, my good ‘ol Aunt Winnie’s temper. I’ve learned to control it and have become pretty tolerant, but if someone pushes my buttons too far then I can get really aggravated.

“Yes dad, I know. I’ll just keep to myself and head to Little Miss Muffet’s Bakery-” I try to sneak away but father grabs my cloak.

“Now I didn’t mean that. I want you to go find some kids your age, maybe some from Auradon?”

I groan. “Ugh, no! Why them? Can’t I just-?”

“No,” Dad holds up a hand to end the debate. “I’m off to order a new chest from Pinoccio, you go socialize. And I want you to tell me about at least one friend you make when we go home.”

“No promises.” I roll my eyes and wrap my cloak tighter around me, wishing it was an invisibility cloak. I keep my face covered and keep as low profile as possible until I reach Miss Muffet’s. Inside I can see delicious-looking pies and glazed pastries.

“Looks good, huh?”

I nearly drop my basket. “Binx, don’t you know it’s dangerous to sneak up on a witch?!” I hiss.

The cat in question chuckles. “Yes, but did you know it’s bad luck to be around a black cat? So, how’s the adventure going?”

I give the black cat a pleading look. “I wanted to get one step closer to having people accept my magic, but I don’t think they’ll ever change their minds no matter how hard I try to prove I’m good.”

Binx wanders off a bit, then says: “Why don’t you use your magic to help someone? That could prove you’re a good witch.”

I consider this, then look around for any good deeds. I soon spot a young boy trying to light a lantern.

“Ugh- Darn it! Son of a witch!” He gives up and throws the contraption to the ground. After he stomps off I pick the lantern up and give it a good look.

“Maybe an illumination spell? That’s pretty safe.” I get a pointed look from Binx. “Don’t give me that! I’ve worked out the kinks, I swear! Just gotta…” I close my eyes and concentrate real hard as I channel energy into my hands. “Illumincerate!”

Pink magic flies off my fingers, but instead of pink electricity I’m horrified to see sparks instead, which land on a nearby straw pile and begin to burn up to the roof.

“Uh-oh! Binx- Oh my God- what did I do wrong?! What should I do?!”

“Just stay calm! I’ll be right back!”

Binx scrambles around trying to get help while I frantically search for anything that can help.

“No!” I shriek as the pink flames climb higher up the building. I finally spot a broom leaning against a bench. Stretching my hand out, the broom zooms forward and I mount it.

“Fly!” The word activates the levitation magic and the broom lifts me up to the burning roof.

Meanwhile, the billowing flames have attracted a crowd of angry villagers.

“Aquafiosa!” I chant as more pink sparks fly off my fingers, only this time the flames are smothered and the roof is only partially damaged. But that doesn’t hide the fact that I’ve just let the whole town in on my secret.

“Witch! Witch! Witch!” The crowd roars from below.

I float down on the broom and try to remain calm. “People, I swear, I’m a good witch!”

“Whose descendant are you?” Willow Darling, Wendy’s daughter, demands.

“Wait!” I look over and see my father fighting his way through the crowd. “Get away from her! Magica is my daughter!”

“But who is her mother, Robert?” Ms. Goldilocks asks with her hands on her hips. “How do we know she’s a good witch? All magic children are kept at Auradon Prep to prevent them from turning evil!”

My father’s face is one of sadness and his shoulders slump. “Magica… is the daughter of-”

“The daughter of Sarah Sanderson!” I yell over him. Everyone gasps, and I swear one lady faints. I go to stand on a crate and address the mob. “That’s right, I’m a descendant of the Sanderson Sisters! I am not proud of my family’s history, but I will not deny my heritage! Their magic runs through me, but I swear on my life that I am not a wicked witch!”

Everyone’s yelling over each other and trying to fight their way past my father. But soon the Royal Guard is summoned, and the General silences the crowd.

“We have been told that there is a witch loose in our kingdom.”

Willow points an accusing finger at me. “Magica Sanderson! She’s a witch!”

“Witch! Witch! Witch!” The mob chants.

The general now glares at me and signals his men to surround me.

“Magica Sanderson, you are under arrest for being an unregistered witch and will be taken to Auradon Prep to be dealt with by the Fairy Godmother.”

“No! Please! Have mercy-!” I plead as my hands are bound.

“Get away from her! She’s innocent, I tell you! Magica would never hurt anyone-!” But despite my father’s demands I’m still dragged down the cobblestone road towards Auradon.

Twice Upon a Time - Neverafter Ep 7

Trouble in Tuffeton

Hoo, boy. Welcome back to Dimension 20 where we have for you today, 3/4ths of a normal episode and then the wildest 25 minutes of your entire life–but more on that second part later.

For now, we’re where we left off–with our intrepid and slightly monstrous heroes just having brought Little Miss Muffet back to mostly normal. She’s still sporting a spider head, but she’s no longer feral. In fact, she’s pretty scared to be in a spider’s web. Which is ironic cause she wrapped everyone in her village up in spider silk cocoons. Awkward!

Before they head out, the group decides to search for the magical artifacts they were told Muffet was amassing, and Ger does best. Here’s what he finds:

A LOT of dead people that he instantly lies escaped to protect the children and especially Muffet

A velvety black cloak with stars embroidered inside

A ghillie suit/cloak that can disguise you as a pile of grass and leaves

A golden bridle (my mind jumps to the taming of Pegasus)

A mirrored, obviously magical sword with the word “Veritas” on it. Siobhan–resident Latin understander–translates that to “truth”

When Ger uses the sword to test it out, Brennan makes him do a Wis save. He gets a 13. With that, Brennan asks if he sees himself more as a frog or a human at that point. Ger says that him being a frog is what’s getting him through this awful experience alive so, right now, he’s actually feeling pretty froggy. And, likewise, he sees his reflection as he is–slimy and amphibious.

Puss checks his spider ring and sees that it’s pointing towards the entrance. As they follow it, they see a lot of spiders are returning to the cave now that Muffet has been taken care of, including Itsy Bitsy who drops off his stuff then goes to try and climb the water spout again.

They follow him out where it’s still raining and Muffet looks up sadly to the hill where she used to eat by herself every day. Everyone says they’ll gladly eat with her and as she smiles, the rain stops falling. It’s the first sun they’ve seen the Time of Shadows began.

And, much like in the fairy tale, with the sun out, the Itsy Bitsy spider gets to the top of the spout. Time goes to record his story and asks if he wants to be put into the book. The Spider, in what sounds like a clear “Pay Attention You Guys, This is a Major Theme” asks if it’s such going to be all sunshine all the time in the book. Because while he likes the sunshine more than the rain, he likes his resilience in the face of the rain and maybe he should bring some rain with him.

The Spider, as he’s very small and he thinks he’d be more helpful as a story, is about to choose the book when Tim (and really Ally it feels like lol) slams the book, to Brennan’s surprise and is like nooooo you have so much value out here! Let’s work on your self-talk. So the spider tags along but, because his story is in the book, Tim gets a new spell that is too high level for him to access yet.

(Btw: Brennan and Ally explain that Goose gets a new spell when he writes down someone’s story. So far he has the spell he doesn’t have access to yet, Jump (I assume from the Cow), Expeditious Retreat (from Jack), Lesser Restoration (from I believe King Cole), and Calm Emotions (the only other person I can remember him sending to the book is the Dish? Or I guess it could also be Muffet since he did write her story. Edit: Cindy too but does that count since it was second hand via an object?)

After this, Tim goes with the rest of the group to distract Muffet while they search the town for cocoons. Tim spots them then leads Muffet away so she doesn’t have to see any of this.

The group takes down the cocoons which are stuck up in the rafters and crack em open. Inside, are the citizens of the town–blessedly alive but VERY freaked out. Our heroes try to claim that this is all the result of a platonic adult sleepover gone wrong (Ally: Roll for Gaslight) to mixed results.

Meanwhile, Tim is trying to give Muffet a pep talk while the screams of her victims ring out in the background. She’s not super feeling the pep. Tim asks how it felt when she became the spider monster and she says it was weird. She was on the hill and then the spider showed up but it was bigger than it should have been. She says that things have felt weird, but she doesn’t know why–a common refrain of citizens of this world. Then, she starts to get a little meta. She says that it struck her all of a sudden that the fact that she’s scared of spider is the only thing anyone knows about her. Maybe the curds and whey thing also. It felt like she was only one thing and not even really that. And that felt messed up. Sounds like someone being cursed with the burden of meta awareness to me.

Back with the townspeople and the rest of the party, everyone is about ready to start the Mob Song from Beauty and the Beast and form a spider hunting party but Pinnochio casts suggestion on the mayor of the town (Mayor Harold Hopps) and gets him to back up the adult sleepover gone wrong version of events. With that sorted, it’s now party time!

The sun sets and the stars come out. There’s a call for perception checks that doesn’t seem to yield anything (highest roll was a 17). The townsfolk bring out alcohol and curds and whey for all in their party location–the Golden Chair tavern.

Ger and Red have a sidebar because Ger is NOT loving Red’s self talk. He says she’s not a monster and, while she appreciates the sentiment, she’s like, come on, you know what’s it like to feel like a monster or else you wouldn’t be trying to turn back into a prince. Ger concedes she has a point but when she asks if he still would still have loved Elody if she had a spider’s head, he thinks he would have. He didn’t just love her for her beauty. He loved that she was rebellious and fascinating and love him as he was. He thinks that maybe once he became handsome, he stopped trying so hard to be anything but that. Red says that it’s strange that Ger is kind of leaning into the non-prince thing because all the best stories are about princes and princesses and Ger–really leaning into the meta vibe of this ep–says that stories usually end once you become a prince or a princess. Roz, who is going through it, pops in to chime in that true love isn’t real–something she as a full adult at 18 would know–and we jump to Tim.

Tim hears writing in his book and sees that Scher is writing to him. She says thanks so much for helping. She and her companions escaped the cave, picked up some new allies, and found a handy doorway to take them all to a new world. She asks if Tim knows of a place called the Land of Beasts and Birds and when Tim says no, that confirms to her that it’s another realm like the Never After and the Endless Nights. (My guess is it’s the Aesop world since he’s all about animal fables.) She tells them to sit tight and, when she can, she’ll open the doorway to them. Tim messages this info to Ger because he’s the only other real adult in the party and everyone else is dancing.

Pinnochio, specifically, is pole dancing using his nose as a pole.

(Puss: Slay Pinocchio, slay.

Roz: Oh, she’s vogueing.)

Anyway.

Tim then goes to Muffet to talk to her magical spoon which we learn is the one that the Dish ran away with (I wonder if that’s what Brennan always had planned or if he just did it because that’s what they figured was going on and why not?)

The Spoon says that yes, she had a tryst with the Dish but it was a mistake and she doesn’t wanna go into the book. Everything in the rhyme is true, but she doesn’t want that to be her whole story. Again, like I said, this ep gets very meta, and we’re not done.

Pinocchio mentions his time at the Land of Toys (aka Pleasure Island in the Disney version) and when Muffet marvels at how long his story is, he says that the story is basically about growing up and actions having consequences and everything being very black and white. Everyone else starts thinking about their stories and Roz thinks about how she has little agency in her story. Puss thinks he doesn’t have much to do in his story once it ends.

Tim wonders if he can do anything to change their stories–he is a writer with a magic book after all. He writes in the book that Pinnochio is free and able to have fun and the book throws a fit. The ink shakes and shudders and is swallowed into the page. Then it starts raining. Tim tells the rest of them what happened and says maybe this is something he can do in the future, but not yet. Pinnochio is like, thanks but I think this is the path I need to be on right now. After all, it’s where his mom wants him.

Speaking of, Tim wonders if Pinnochio’s stepmom has anything to do with the rain starting up again–defeating Muffet was supposed to stop that.

Roz tries to put her spindle into the book to see what happens and the book accepts it, writing her story as it is in this reality–with 7 fairies. But, like Cinderella, her story is interrupted (though not at Happily Ever After, at falling asleep) and then there are two blank pages and an illustration of the spindle. Strange.

Puss goes to the bar and sees two burly men he doesn’t recognize from freeing the townsfolk. He sees them whispering to each other then going upstairs. He follows them and a lot happens to I’m gonna go to bullets.

He hears two cloaks being put on the bed.

He hears a tearing sound and then the noise of something heavy and almost wet hit the ground.

Then he hears thin hollow voices and the lighting of a match.

It was dark when they walked in and now light is seeping under the door.

A voice asks why the rain came back and the voices (who call this person “mistress”) say that they saw a witch writing in a book and then the words freaked out.

The voice is like “Hmm, curious,” and asks what was being written about. When they say a wooden boy, the voice recognizes that it’s Pinnochio. She says that what happened is “dangerous” and they should stop him from writing more, kill him, and leave the book.

Puss hears a wet noise like something sharp and angular straining against something “slick and horrifying”. Then he hears cloaks being picked up from the bed.

Puss runs like hell and finds Tim. He gets Tim to message him and is like, so funny story, these men want you dead. The message is disseminated amongst the group and they all get into position. Tim goes outside to lead them out and everyone else follows or goes to an upstairs window to get a high vantage point.

As soon as they’re in position, Puss attacks without waiting and misses, but Ger’s ability lets him get another hit in and he aces it with a Nat 20 that causes a full death blow. First of the campaign! As he kills this dude, he realizes that it’s a twig and wood skeleton under a flesh skin. Gross! The plant matter inside these guys is familiar to Roz as the brambles she’s familiar with. So it seems like these guys are some kind of plant constructs and the weird sounds Puss heard were them taking off and putting on their skin suits. Again, gross!

They don’t seem to be human and the rest of the party is able to dispatch the other one in short order. Puss explains what he saw and they go to the room to check it out.

OK, so, this is when the last fourth of this ep kicks in and it turns into a Whole Other Thing. You have been warned.

They go into the room and it is destroyed. The only thing that looks OK is a small table with a silver platter on it. In the silver platter is a small amount of water and a blood red candle burned most of the way down. It’s perfectly centered in the water.

Ger puts the truth sword over the candle and the reflection shows the candle is lit, even though it doesn’t appear to be. Tim’s 20 arcana check tells him that the candle is a spell somehow.

Roz smells petrichor and iron and rot. It smells like the bad fairy–which is interesting because iron is usually fairy bane. Maybe the iron is blood?

Ger blows out the seemingly unlit candle and it lights the torches on the wall. They realize that the candle being lit probably somehow impedes other light sources.

Pinocchio casts Faerie Fire to suss out if anyone invisible is in the room and no one is revealed but the spell lights the candle and casts the room in a shimmery light. Pinocchio has a weird feeling, like one of his strings attaches to the candle.

The candle asks who he wants to speak to–everyone hears this and sees his string by the way. Pinnochio knows that his mom has his strings and wonders if this candle is somehow connected to his mom.

Roz, in a throwaway line that is actually the turning point of the episode, asks if they can talk to PInnochio’s mom. Pinnochio is like, uh OK, yeah. Sure. You guys can meet my mom. And the Roz is swiftly shoved into a closet by Tim so she’s not seen. Which is very funny considering that this was her idea and it goes…

Uh…

Interestingly.

“You watch as something terrible unfolds” Brennan says, which I have to add to the same list as, “I’m about to describe something heartbreaking” from Sophomore Year.

The candle sputters and Pinnochio hears a garbled voice say, “I did not summon you to speak to me.”

Roz and Pinnochio see the face of the bad fairy they both recognize in the candle flame. The door to the hall flies open and Pinnochio sees the silhouette of his mom in the doorway–everyone else sees this for the first time. If feels wrong to see and I’m just gonna quote Brennan because I can’t do these lines justice in summary:

“You are seeing something you absolutely should not see–the face of a divinity you don't worship, the smile of a devil you never believed in.”

AHHHHHHHHH.

Pinnochio is standing in such a way that he’s blocking the fae in the flame from his stepmom in the door and he has to choose if he wants to look at his mom or keep blocking the fae from her. Also, because of the lighting conditions here, it seems like he’ll actually be able to see her and not just her shadow.

He chooses to look at his mom.

As he does, Ger tosses him the truth sword. Light reflects on the sword and fully illuminates the stepmother. As this happens, the room grows strange. It doesn’t feel like they’re in the inn anymore. It’s like they’re in a place out of place.

The wicked fairy sees the stepmother properly, screams HORRIFIED, and does a full Oedipus–no, not that part, the other part. She PLUCKS HER EYES OUT. The candle goes out.

Brennan asks who wants to look at the stepmom after that.

All of the adults are like FUCK NO but the kids–Red and Pinnochio, choose to look.

(Note: Muffet is also there wildly and doesn’t look. Ally: Where has this bitch been in initiative?)

Anyway, both kids have to make a Cha save. They both get the help action.

Red fails with a 6–unsurprising since the AxMurph dice pool has been rolling *garbage* this episode (Murph, repeatedly: This die is RE-TI-RED!)

Pinnnochio passes with a 21.

Red gets three red tokens. Three. Dying gives you one. Looking at this person gives you THREE.

Thanks, hate that!

The stepmom in her full glory is an eldritch abomination made up of shifting visions of malice and spite. Brennan describes her sneer splitting off into a second mouth so she can sneer further over and over almost fractally. Beneath her skin are hundreds of beings crawling–countless stories and people she’s eaten.

Brennan asks whether her mom or grandma is who comes to mind first. Emily, fully knowing she’s about to get hurt, says in Red’s good natured casual tone that Grandma is always on her mind.
