It's okay to not be okay

I love how our current generation is working diligently to smash through the stigma of talking about mental health! Honestly, no one is always okay. We all go through dark times, whether we talk about it or not and you shouldn't let your mental health status decide your worth or value as a person. Some of us will never pull out of those dark times, and that's okay! We can still find those moments worth smiling for, those people worth loving who love us in return, and most importantly HELP! We can find help. There are so many new resources popping up daily to help us get through the rain. So, before I go into outfit credits, I have compiled a small list of things we can all do to help our mental health. Just always remember that you matter and you are a beautiful soul worthy of love and happiness.

Talk about your feelings. I know this is the hardest one, especially if you suffer from anxiety and always feel judged. But talking about our feelings is truly the only way to get them out and lift a bit of that weight off. If you're uncomfortable talking to someone you know, there are other options! For instance, every nation out there has a suicide hotline. You can also try journaling! This way, you are still getting it out, even if you never want anyone to read it.

Keep active. I understand that not all of us are able to get out and run every day, or hit the gym. But any sort of activity counts. Even if it's just walking the dog, or doing the dishes. Whatever you can do! Just keep doing it!

Eat well and stay hydrated. Those of us who suffer from any form of mental ailment fall on one of two sides of the eating spectrum: we either forget to eat and drink our water, or we overeat. It is so imperative to make sure our body is getting the nutrients it needs, to keep our brain functioning in tip-top shape. If you can't remember to eat, start setting alarms and make sure you name the alarms. If you're like me and overindulge, just make sure you're putting healthy foods in the mix amongst all the snacking. And most importantly - drink enough water!

Take a break. I know that society has us programmed to believe that we have to keep pushing ourselves, even when we know we have hit our limit. But, to put it frankly; FUCK THAT! You should always be your number one priority. Even if you are overworking your ass off to take care of your family - you should still put your health, mental and physical, first. If you work yourself into an early grave, who will take care of that family you worry about so much? Hmm? It's okay to take minutes, hours, days, or however long you need to sort yourself out. Never allow anyone the power to make you feel shitty for just needing a break for some "me time".

Do something you're good at. It's amazing how much doing something you're good at can boost your mood. Even if it's something as simple as reading a book. Take the time to do what you love and what you know you're good at.

Care for others. Ever hear that saying, "those who can't do, teach"? The same goes for mental health. While you may have trouble keeping yourself grounded at times, you know what it's like to feel helpless in those moments. So, use that wisdom to help someone else.
