After-con Cosplay Post-mortem
So I really had a pretty good time at AMKE despite some dumb things that happened - one of those being how rushed my MTT costume was. So I’m doing a little analysis of myself to help me along for planing repairs, updates, and tweaks, hopefully in time for ACen. (ACen is not usually in my con rotation but a friend has invited me along to help manage a meetup and photoshoot, and it’d be an opportunity to wear an updated MTT.)
Ali gets analytical under the cut!
I looked amazing, but I could have done better. What went wrong?
The entire costume was very last-minute. I didn’t give myself enough time to work, and I definitely skimped on drying time for fabric paint and mod podge.
The sleeves ripped out after only a couple hours of use. Specifically, the seam.
The belt was a constant problem. While much of that can be attributed to the accident where I got smacked with a backpack, the fact that it failed so easily means I need to overhaul the whole thing.
My makeup flaked a lot... and it was only afterward that I learned why.
My feet ended up very painfully swollen. The boots did fit, but I still in the end have weird mutant feet. Also, 3″ are just bad for you.
What can be done?
I should have done a bit more multitasking, especially with buying stuff. I focused to much on the makeup for too long, to the lack of acquiring other necessary supplies. I’ve always been bad at time management, though, so I’m going to be forgiving of myself on this, and use this analysis to help plan the future.
The pattern and the Stitch Witchery I used were of different seam allowance sizes - 1/4″ on the pattern as compared to 5/8″ with the Stitch Witchery, and that’s why it ripped out. Apparently 3/8″ is a pretty big difference when flexing biceps are involved. I should have given myself more of a seam allowance and possibly reinforced it with some hand sewing. (The silver lamé I used really hates my sewing machine and I don’t have the skill or knowhow to make them cooperate.)
There were many mistakes with my approach to the belts. I sized them standing up before I had broken in the leotard and many of the breaks were the instant I sat down - which means there wasn’t enough ease. Also, hot glue is apparently not friends with either metal or acrylic paint, and adhered poorly. I should have sized the casings to my sitting waist + hip measures and let the elastic keep things snug while standing.
The flaking makeup is apparently caused by overdosing on setting powder - I had no idea! This is a really easy fix - dial it down on the powder, dial it up on the spray. Since I got extra white and silver in case I ran out, I can do some tests with less powder and see how things go.
The boots are going to be photoshoot-only from now on. My feet are STILL swollen, though not as painful, and it’s the Monday after the con. Wearing my stockings and Xion shoes to walk the con and kicking them off for spontaneous pictures was a pretty good solution. I’m probably going to practice more in the boots to break them in a bit more and just get better with handling myself for posing and the like, but I’m not going to wear them to walk around and I’ll give myself plenty of breaks.
For the belts in particular, I think I’m going to sand off the paint, glue on a fabric backing, and let that help with attachment, whether sewn or glued. I may even have the backing be a single piece with the belt casings and close the belts in the back, though I’m not sure what kind of finishing or attachment that will need. A little bit of gather is a-ok, though I do want the belts to be mostly flat and fairly snug.

Trade-Volume Distribution Analysis (12.29.2020): DITO | ACEN | APL | MM | AR | PHA | NOW | BDO | MRC | JFC
Know the most traded and voluminous prices of DITO, ACEN, APL, MM, AR, PHA, NOW, BDO, MRC, and JFC in our trade-volume distribution analysis as of December 29, 2020.
When I buy stocks, I don’t just rely on the lowest price I use under the Ask column. Also, I don’t just refer to the highest price under the Bid column when I sell shares. Instead, I do my trade-volume distribution analysis first to identify the price point or range that got the biggest volume and the highest number of trades. By doing so, I don’t just become realistic but also a strategic trader…
