Ocean

-Straight orange hair that will go insane in the humidity (She always wears her hair down, like nobody has seen her with her hair up. Constance saw her in a ponytail ONCE.)

-Wears glasses (She literally just looks like the nerd emoji.)

-Has buck teeth (She was supposed to get braces but her parents spent lots of the dental money on a new bong.)

-Freckles everywhere

-Iconic headband

-Acne that she’s desperately trying to treat

-Wears her uniform very neat with a red bowtie.

Noel

-Design mostly based on Kholby Wardell’s Noel

-Black hair (He cannot get it wet because he will literally just look like a wet cat)

-Black nail polish that always ends up chipping by the end of the day (He picks his nails).

-He has acne but tries to cover it with foundation.

-Foundation is the only makeup he will wear and he spends all morning trying to make it look less noticeable because he doesn’t want to get bullied.

-He has hairy legs because he’s too scared to shave (He does everything he can to hide them)

-Wears his uniform neat with a black tie.

Mischa

-Design mostly based on Chaz Duffy’s Mischa.

-REALLY REALLY REALLY dark blonde hair.

-Iconic backwards hat (He cannot enter a public space without it).

-Promise ring from Talia.

-He has stubble because he hardly ever shaves.

-He has lots of body hair in general. (He hit a growth spurt at an early age)

-Eye bags because he just doesn’t give a shit about sleeping.

-He is a bit muscular but also a bit chubby.

-Wears his uniform in an unorganized way, his sleeves are rolled up to his elbows and his top couple buttons are unbuttoned.

Ricky

-Design mostly based on Scott Redmond and Yannick Robin Eike Mirko’s Ricky.

-Curly dark brown hair.

-They have noise-cancelling headphones that look like cat ears.

-Wears glasses

-Mostly uses a wheelchair because it makes communicating easier, whether it’s through ASL or through the AAC device.

-Speaking of their AAC device, it has stickers all over it, they’re mostly sci-fi themed, space themed, comic book themed, or cat themed.

-Wears their uniform pretty much the same way Noel does but they’ll occasionally wear the girls jumper under the sweater vest (They also always have cat hair on them, so they need to carry a lint roller in their school bag).

Jane Doe

-Design mostly based on Emily Rohm’s Jane Doe.

-Light blonde ringlets + a black headband with a little bow.(Just imagine the 2016 wig)

-The doll has a white lacy dress with a black ribbon around the waist and black buttons.

-Her face is completely white minus her pink cheeks. Her lips are red and small. Her eyes are big and completely black (Light doesn’t even reflect off of them).

-The separation between her head and neck is cracks.

-There are cracks that start from the corner of her mouth and end under her chin. These cracks allow her to move her mouth to speak (They look similar to a marionette’s mouth).

-Her body is curvy and looks like a corpse.

-Her white shirt is replaced with a white blouse with puffy sleeves that get tighter around her wrists + platform Mary jane’s

-6’0 (6’4 with platforms)

Constance

-Design mostly based on Lillian Castillo’s Constance.

-Coiled black hair that fades into purple at the end (She always plays around with her hairstyle, sometimes its in space buns, half-up half-down space buns, one big bun, or just down sometimes.)

-Wears pastel jewelry.

-Her glasses are rounder than Ocean’s and Ricky’s.

-Nails always painted in pastel colors.

-She just likes decorating herself in lots of pastel colors in general (when she gets pimples, she wears those smiley face pimple patches).

-She is plus-sized (if you draw Lillian’s Constance, draw her plus-sized for the love of god)

-Her shirt is buttoned up but she always forgets her tie.

-5’4

Penny

-Design. Mostly based on Emily Rohm’s Penny.

-Really long brown hair (She hasn’t cut it since she was 14) usually done in twin braids + bangs obscuring her eyes.

-She wears goth jewelry that she always fidgets with (goth Penny is real TO ME).

-She secretly carries her doll in her backpack (Only the choir knows).

-She got pushed down the stairs a lot (before people started ignoring her) so she still has some injuries and bandages on her.

-Her body is curvy.

-She has hairy legs because she HATES how itchy her legs get after shaving.

-Again, her white shirt is replaced with a white blouse with puffy sleeves that get tighter around her wrists (the reason her shirt is different is because of her sensory issues) + platform Mary jane’s.

on the one hand i don't know how i'll handle yakuza 6 fic-wise because i'm already starting to diverge from canon pretty majorly (i think more or less, for at least some portion, nishida takes majima's role in 4 as he's busy being with kiryu finally) and kiryu finally starts getting the message he can and should accept help rather than constantly sacrifice himself

but also just knowing his injuries from that game are brutal enough that parts of the fandom have collectively decided he has permanent brain damage. well my own little fucked up brain is cackling like a gremlin saying, "now just what if he became nonverbal and needed an AAC device, huh?"

as if i need to project onto him any fucking more

but like... what if. guuuuuys what if. i also better know what AAC was like in 2016-2017 (yakuza 6, apparently) than in 2007 (which is around my self-insert stuff haha) so i could be a bit more accurate - it might not sound like that big a difference, but we are talking electronic devices here.

(which, some are standalone devices that just serve the purpose of AAC in-person, but what i use is actually an ordinary touchscreen tablet with an AAC app installed, allowing me to also compose written messages with it and send/post those online, from the same device. i don't do that very much here though, cause it gets messy fast.)

this is my aac device ! it is a samsung tablet from 2016 and i use it to run my aac app SymboTalk as well as general media, social media, etc. i am currently working on my basics/quick access board which is shown on the screen. there is a girl at my work/volunteer placement who has the same tablet case as me and we always share a 🤝 moment when we see each others devices :)

The 2023 Hater's Guide to the West Region

This blog is not in any way affiliated with the NCAA, its entities, subsidiaries, or member institutions. This is a humor site and should be treated as such. We’re all on our way out – act accordingly.

1. Kansas (28-6). When Texas beat Kansas to end the Big 12 (8?) regular season, the intrepid videographer shooting the game happened to catch a KU coed wearing a t-shirt which read “I (heart) Dick.” A-fucking-mazing. Look, I don’t have to tell you KU fans need this one seed, need the wins, need a title more than anything to justify their continued existence. They live in Kansas for fuck’s sake – Interstate 70 ends in Lawrence and you are stuck wandering the plains like Denzel Washington in Book of Eli until you reach Colorado, and the interstate magically appears again. There is NOTHING to do here other than watch basketball, and that says a lot, because I live in Iowa!

2. UCLA (29-5). This is a Bruin, right? With that face, I am 100% sure his name is “Crick Monin.”

3. Gonzaga (28-5). There is a new Constitutional amendment which clearly states you are no longer allowed to refer to Gonzaga as a Cinderella school. It’s been twenty five years - I think the slipper finally broke. They’ve now been in every final AP poll since the 2008-09 season, and have appeared in every weekly AP poll since 2016-17, a streak of 115 consecutive weeks. I will never stop laughing when eighth year senior Drew Timme appears on my TV screen. All I see is TIMMY from South Park. Fuck John Stockton.

4. UConn (25-8). Go back to the AAC! Biggest group of crybabies in the country and it isn’t even close. When their women’s team had an injury plagued season (lost five games including back-to-back games for the first time in 30 years), Geno Auriemma vented to the media and to his team, telling them they had three days before the conference tournament to fix things. Then he got in his car and drove home to Manchester, wishing he could continue westward. “The way I felt was I want to wake up in California in three days,” he said. “I just want to keep driving, I don’t want to do anything, I don’t want to come to practice.” Jesus man, just fucking quit already and move away from that awful place. Twitter account CrimsonCast put it best: UConn continues to fail to shake the perception that they are simply an analytics darling. Like an east coast version of the Mountain West.

5. Saint Mary’s (26-7). Every bracket, no matter the site, always lists this school as “Saint Mary’s (CA).” Why? No one is confusing this school for the archaeological dig site posing as a university in Maryland, or the all-women’s college in north-central Indiana where many of the enrolled students play for nearby Leprechaun U, also known as Notre Dame. No, this is the school – in California – that gets exclusive coverage on ESPN Australia/New Zealand. Sixty percent of the student body is involved in organized athletics here, so it’s a good chance you’ll be handed a scholarship and some sort of ball upon move-in. It’s either that or forced labor washing jockstraps.

6. TCU (21-12). Their coach gives out a pair of “charge socks” when a Horned Frog player takes a charge. There’s a big bucket of these colorful dress socks in the TCU locker room. Charge socks? You have to be kidding me. You are in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, you can’t find a bag of blow or an extra couple of c-notes for your athletes? (Producer cuts in…garbled static…). Pardon me, I’ve just been informed that the “C” in TCU stands for “Christian.” There is no cocaine on campus. But NIL is legal now, surely you can find something other than a pair of sweaty dress socks to reward your unpaid employees. Perhaps a sad handjob from a coed who has already put on the freshman 15+15+15?

7. Northwestern (21-11). Congratulations, you finished top three in the Big Ten for the first time since 1960. You won your last conference championship 90 (!) years ago. You have made one (1) NCAA tournament and had to be retroactively selected as something called the Helms National Champion. Your most successful head coach played for Phog Allen at Kansas – in 1917! Northwestern basketball is the definition of futility. They are the Chicago Cubs of the NCAA; fitting for a program that markets itself as “Chicago’s Big Ten team” (insert jerking off hand motion here). Even if Northwestern won 25 games a season for the next 25 years, they would still have a losing record.

8. Arkansas (20-13). It is against state law to mispronounce “Arkansas'' while in the state, yet their residents  pronounce jalapeno “Holla-PEE-no.” Gun to my head, I wouldn’t be able to look at Sarah Huckabee Sanders naked, playing with a hula hoop, for more than a second.

9. Illinois (20-12). Brad Underwood is a bargain-bin Gene Keady who is very upset about “booty ball.” Every press conference he attends ends with him making a wet fart sound into the microphone.

10. Boise State (24-9). No one gives a shit about this team unless tater tots rise to $6 a bag – then it’s time to storm the blue court. I know exactly one person from Idaho and their personality matches that of the official state produce. This person is incapable of being corrected. They are always right. You are always wrong. If you say the sky is blue, their response will no doubt begin with “well, actually…” Boise is also not a state, you arrogant fuckhead.

11. Arizona State (20-12) or Nevada (23-9). Over 60% of the student body at ASU has some form of herpes. Unless you are a model, they throw you in an engineering building for four years. If you hate Duke just like the rest of America, you generally hate Christian Laettner and Grant Hill. But there’s one player from those early-90s teams everyone forgot: Bobby Hurley. As I’ve aged, my hatred for Hurley has waned, but I’ll always wish maximum pain for whatever team he coaches.

With the growth of legalized sports gambling across the United States, the University of Nevada has introduced several new classes for the 2023-24 school year: Kneecap Relocation, Intermediate Hammer Smashing Techniques, and Advanced Vig Calculation. Another new course addition as of Thursday morning: Getting Your Shit Pushed In By A Sun Devil Pitchfork. Too soon? Probably.

12. VCU (27-7). VCU stands for Very Completely Underwhelming. This isn’t a college, it’s an industrial laundry that has tricked 28,000 students into paying the institution to “work.” If you want a perfect example of the bloat in higher education administration, consider there are over 11,000 non-academic staff at VCU. Never trust a doctor from this school; they only practiced on centaurs.  

13. Iona (27-7). Someone is going to give Rick Pitino the best 14 seconds of his life to coach for them. 

14. Grand Canyon (24-11). By employing buzzer-beating Valpo alum Bryce Drew, this pretend university has already accomplished more in the NCAA Tournament than Mount Rushmore State, Hoover Dam U, Smokey Mountains College and SUNY-Niagara Falls.

15. UNC Asheville (27-7). Let’s have a quick check-in on how this college is doing. Student enrollment and retention are plunging at UNC-Asheville and top leadership is departing at the highest rate in the entire UNC system. While overall student enrollment in the UNC system has increased 7% since 2015, UNC-Asheville fell by a stunning 25%, the largest drop among the 16 public universities in the system. Of the incoming students UNC-A is able to attract, a high number of them leave before graduation. Retention of students, measured as those returning for a second year of school, is now just 68.6%, the lowest in ten years. Jesus, even Trump University would laugh at these numbers. 

16. Howard (22-12). Howard students recently had to protest living conditions in on-campus dorms – mold, mildew, and rats are apparently very commonplace in multiple residences. It is 2023; the only sensible reason these alarming conditions should be issues on your campus is when you have outsourced every part of the student life experience to a call center in the middle of the Himalayas.

Tom Sachs

TOM SACHS is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. In an early show he made Knoll office furniture out of phone books and duct tape; later, he recreated Le Corbusier's 1952 Unité d'Habitation using only foamcore and a glue gun. Other projects have included his versions of various Cold War masterpieces, like the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module, and the bridge of the battleship USS Enterprise. And because no engineering project is more complex and pervasive than the corporate ecosystem, he's done versions of those, too, including a McDonald's he built using plywood, glue, assorted kitchen appliances. He's also done Hello Kitty and her friends in materials ranging from foamcore to bronze.

Boston College: 2023 Fenway Bowl Champions

It was not the bowl game SMU envisioned when it handled Tulane 26-14 in New Orleans for the 2023 AAC Championship, securing its first conference title since 1984.

But furthermore, it was not the finish SMU envisioned when the bowl matchups were set. In one of the more lopsided matchups of the postseason, the 11-2 Mustangs — in the midst of a dominant 9-game win streak — were definitive favorites over a 6-6 Boston College team that defeated one .500 or better team all season.

Yet, that’s why they play the game. Boston College not only defended its nearby stomping grounds in Boston at the second annual Fenway Bowl — it upended SMU by multiple scores, exiting with a 23-14 victory for its first bowl win since 2016.

SMU is accustomed to fast starts, registering an FBS-best 13.4 points per game in the first quarter. The inability to generate a spark in the early going doomed the Mustangs for the remainder of the game. SMU moved the ball well on its first possession until Boston College defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku made a textbook strip while tackling SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings. The Mustangs’ offense stalled on its ensuing possessions and faced a first quarter shutout for the first time since November 2022.

Rhett Lashlee’s team rolled into the Fenway Bowl with nearly its entire cast of major contributors, but one major piece was missing. All-AAC quarterback Preston Stone suffered a broken fibula in the regular season finale, thrusting Jennings into the lineup. While Jennings led SMU to a conference title in his first start, the offense — ranked sixth in points per game — didn’t produce its typical output without Stone in the lineup, falling 157 yards below its season average.

SMU delivered two first half touchdowns, including one in the final 10 seconds of the half to produce a 14-10 halftime lead. The Mustangs typically thrived in second halves this season — refusing to trail for a single second in a third or fourth quarter since their Week 4 matchup at TCU. But SMU was completely shut out in the second half. The turning point occurred on a third quarter drive when clinging onto a 14-10 advantage. Jennings launched a beautiful deep ball to an open Key’Shawn Smith in the end zone, but the receiver was unable to corral the pigskin. The drive ended in a field goal attempt, and Boston College blocked it.

The Eagles capitalized on the special teams momentum swing, responding with a touchdown drive to open the fourth quarter. After an ambitious SMU 4th and 3 attempt from its own 42-yard line, Boston College took over and extended the lead to 23-14 on a 14-yard scramble by electrifying mobile quarterback Thomas Castellanos.

Castellanos, the offensive MVP of the game, made life difficult for SMU’s usually immovable defense. He eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season with a 156-yard outburst, scoring two touchdowns in the memorable performance. SMU’s defense, which was second in the FBS in sacks, only totaled one against the elusive quarterback, allowing Boston College to have manageable third down distances throughout the afternoon.

Running back Kye Robichaux added 89 yards and a touchdown, and the Eagles totaled 262 yards as a unit, boasting an average of 6.4 yards per carry. SMU only surrendered 3.2 yards per attempt in its first 13 games, exhibiting the nation’s 18th-best run defense, and the inability to sustain that excellence cost the Mustangs in a high-stakes game.

Offensively, SMU couldn’t produce the same success in the ground game against a Boston College defense which ranked 124th in stopping the run — allowing 5.4 yards per carry. The Mustangs never broke away for a run exceeding 14 yards and the passing offense finished 24-of-48.

SMU completes its 2023 campaign with an 11-3 standing which is still the Mustangs’ highest win percentage since the infamous “death penalty” punishment in 1987. The fate of the AAC champions’ season belongs in the hands of AP voters, as they hope to remain in the final AP Poll for the first time since finishing No. 8 in 1984. Now that the Fenway Bowl is over, it’s time to remove the AAC signage from SMU’s uniforms, stadium, and facilities as the Mustangs prepare their highly-anticipated transition to the ACC in 2024.

Prior to the Fenway Bowl, Boston College was 1-27 against its last 28 ranked opponents in the AP Poll. But by outlasting No. 17 SMU, the Eagles recorded their second ranked victory since 2014 — capping the 2023 season with the program’s most important win in over a decade to finish 7-6. Year five of the Jeff Hafley era launches next fall with more momentum than ever, and his Boston College team gets a rematch with SMU in Dallas next fall… as geographically-distant conference opponents in the ACC.
