A Mammon Analysis Written By A Mammon Kinnie! :8D

It's time to make y'all love this magnificent bastard even more than you already do so we can finally have something just happen in this fandom!

First off, the analysis.

A lot of people seem to think of Mammon as "dumb" or "oblivious", when he's far from either. Mammon is actually a very intelligent and attentive person, but just like most subtle things about him, it can be hard to notice because of his eccentricities.

As far as I see it, Mammon views everything he does as an investment to some extent, whether it be a literal monetary one or one of time, effort and/or attention. This is also one of the big things that make him so relatable to me. It's also worth noting that as a flipside to this, he also sees any option he's presented with in terms of physical or emotional value and trying to maximize said value as much as possible.

Mam doesn't interrupt "Two Minutes Notice" not because he's stupid, but because insults don't truly detract from the value of him or anything he has, not to mention the fact that he could tell that a lot of people would be willing to buy the song, just look how many are hanging of Fizz's every word when he describes having a crappy boss.

Likewise, criticizing Fizz's weight is something Mam solely does because it helps profits and has no genuine personal issue with Fizz potentially getting chunkier.

This shows something else interesting about Mammon, he doesn't really want to do destructive things, people just keep giving him every reason to do so, he's not dangerous on his own.

Every action Mam takes that makes Fizz uncomfortable is a direct result of him catering to what the consumers want, whether it be religiously watching his spokesman's weight for the sake of keeping the skinny sex-bots accurate, or forcing a mentally unstable person to spend a lot of time socializing to get people to pay admission for a meet-&-greet.

There's also the fact that he runs Greed in such a way that benefits Hell as a whole way more than Ozzie and Bee do. Admittedly, he over charges for his products, but said products are up to snuff, you'd expect him to peddle cheap junk that falls apart almost instantly, but no, he makes quality products and just charges extra. He really is a shrewd businessman when you get down to it, and that's something a lot of people have sadly overlooked when discussing our favorite spider.

Which brings me to my next point, Mammon being a spider is actually really clever, assuming what I'm about to describe was intended and not just me reading too much into a cheap Australia joke. Spiders are often shown as eerie and a way of reminding the viewer of a piece of media that nature can be scary, and though they do some really weird and freaky stuff, that's also the beauty of spiders. They have some of the most innovative and distinct hunting patterns in nature, they're more of a neutral presence, just like greed itself.

I've seen many people claim in their analysis of Mammon that "greed can't be good" which is just demonstrably untrue, greed is really just any action that prioritizes bettering oneself, it's only destructive if you are willing to be destructive, but even then it can lead to innovation and broad positive change, even if someone is worse off because of it.

Lastly, I want to discuss Mammon's obvious need for personal affection, the big guy is blatantly touch starved and craves a close connection, I have a rather headcanon-y idea about the origin of this behavior and I plan to link to it once I post about it in detail, but that can wait. However, this does reflect that idea of value and investment, Mam has yet to find someone who is both pleasant for him to be around and whose company has a reasonable "price". I see many possibilities for exploring this facet of his characterization and look forward to seeing the discussion about it grow.

Ayoo first art post on this blog, it's for a Shapeshifter!AU regarding Mission: Impossible 8D A lot of the plot is already somewhat established, but I'm still tinkering with the designs. Lane is a great tailed grackle and Benjis a sparrow! They both have human & bird forms :> And, well... seeing as shapeshifters are extremely rare, Lane is kinda obsessed with meeting another one of his kind, maybe a bit too obsessive. It's dabbling into Lanedunn territory but it's going to be a wild ride - I'll have more sketches for this AU in the works, so stay tuned!

It's gonna be a bit boring for a few days: Today (6th of January '24) the last baby drabble with stepdad Afton came out. 🍼 Tomorrow I'll upload a new chapter to Explore with dear William.👀 Then Monday we''ll have Otis Driftwood fucking Reader into labor (as per requested, and I did do research for that one but not in the field obviously). Tuesday, Art the clown becomes a dad and you're gonna have to be clever to stay alive. Wednesday, Abijah Fowler discovers Reader is pregnant (and we all know he kills his bastards so can you get away?) That's the end of the baby themed drabbles for now. Though there'll be more in the future. I am your ficwriting mom so you are going to suffer under my hand from time to time. Thursday, We're finally meeting stepbrother STU 8D Yay.🥳 <- This one is interesting for you anon. Put it in your agenda, highlight it. January 11th is the start of a brand new drabble series. (And psst, William is in it as your stepdad too). Friday, we're catching stepdad William taking a shit 👀 Saturday, Male Reader is gonna get boned by Sir Thomas Sharpe but Romantically. Monday, finally baking cookies with big stepbro Stu again🥹

And there is more to come. I have several Stepbrother Stu fics ready or in progress. I'm thinking of making a range where it's just Stepbrother Stu Macher x Reader being involved, some in which Reader has both men willingly, and perhaps one where Stepdad William Afton isn't a nice guy and Stepbrother Stu wants to protect his new younger sister from the evil pervy man 🥹 Basically, I have too many ideas and not enough time to write everything as quickly as I want to. But drabbles are coming, so strap in 😈 EDIT: To everyone who has sent in prompts, ideas, or random messages that I have not yet answered. I have read them, I loved them. Stay tuned. just an observation to share, maybe my hearing is awful and this is not true, but I have listened to the Mario & Luigi clip probably north of 50 times at this point (i'm TOTALLY normal about this movie, i am NOT drowning in a sea of emotion at all times about the sweetest brothers of all time, I SWEAR) and I feel very convinced that Mario doesn't actually say "It's gonna be ok/all right as long as we're together." I believe he says: "I've got you! Nothing can hurt us as long as we're together." Which honestly, I like better and even has a slightly stronger vibe of "we've been treated badly by people in the past but we've always had each other to turn to and lean on no matter what and that's made all the difference." And now, for the first time in their lives, they suddenly won't have that and i cry and cry and CRY

I really hope this clip is the one being shared over the weekend too because 1) pls don't release any more footage, MY FEEBLE HEART CAN'T TAKE IT AND I JUST WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE AT THIS POINT, and 2) I just want to know what the actual lines are for 100% certain, my brain is rattled from trying to tune out the much louder talking, haha.

We're all totally normal about this movie 8D Nothing abnormal whatsoever here.

Ok, so I went back to listen to it again, and someone has managed to subtitle the whole thing, and it looks like it's the correct lines!

(bold text is the 'new' lines)

"We'll be fine! We'll be ok!"

"How is it gonna be ok?!"

"I'm telling you, everything's gonna be alright as long as we're together!"

So yeah I'll admit I've had a feeling that I got the line wrong. Other people have been adding their own ideas, but yeah this one seems to be the official version.

At the time my ears picked up what I thought it was saying (difficult trying to hear past loud talking, as you are aware!) And since then my brain had been getting mixed up with what I thought I heard, and what other people were suggesting they heard.

Oh but my heart if it had been "Nothing can hurt us" 😭 It just fits. Maybe it will appear later in a different way.

I do hope this is the clip being shown on Saturday. I've heard some speculation that it will be more of the DK fight, but I really hope it isn't. We've seen enough in my opinion to get us enticed. Why do they need to spoil even more of it? Just let us see it when the movie comes out.

46 favourite holiday film? hmmmm... i was never really in tune with the classix as a boy because yk. muslim. but we always watched Home Alone 2 every year :) it's a fun little movie. i love Joe Pesci. he in fact stars in my favorite film, __ ______ _____! (instead of telling you it straight, i've had it a game, you get a chance to guess! or i can just tell you directly if you ask.)

Mm, yes, you know a fandom has latched into my brain when the inevitable “but what would their P4-style Shadows/Personas be?” question wafts into my brainmeats.

Which means, welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh Persona Hell, in which my brain decides, if Yugi was tossed into the TV World with the Millennium Puzzle, the result would be both he and Atem (who suddenly has a body because Weird Shadow Bullshit(tm)) both get to face their Shadows!

Yugi handles it shockingly well, because he’s self-reflective enough to know he’s a bubbling mass of suppressed rage and hurt under the surface.  His Shadow is borderline feral with rage in a very “we’re tired of being nice, we wanna go apeshit” kinda way, and Yugi is like... “yeah, pretty much.”  Because he is angry.  He’s pissed about how he’s been treated by his peers.  He’s pissed how people treat his friends (e.g. lookin’ at you, Jounouchi’s dad).  He’s pissed there are people who look at the unfairness of the world and go “that’s just how it is” and do nothing, or worse, use it to justify being shitty.

But Yugi’s also like, “but that’s what’s kept me going.  That’s what drives me to be a kinder person.  Someone has to take the first step to making things better, and it might as well be me.”  And his Shadow never goes Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) as a result.

Atem’s experience?  ... not as peaceful.  He is a writhing mass of insecurity under the surface and the lack of firm identity makes it 500 times worse.  His Shadow looks like he was as a Pharaoh, but... constantly shifting, like multiple layers of a picture being moved in and out of place all at once, like it has anime afterimages even when it’s standing perfectly still, speaking with multiple out of tune voices,  like the voices of the people sacrificed to make the Millennium Items are trying to speak with it in an out-of-sync chorus.

Poor Atem, he can’t deny or accept his Shadow, because who is he, really?????  Is the past he’s forgotten one as horrible as the literally ill-defined Shadow is making it out to be?  Is it lying?  He doesn’t know, he can’t possibly know, and he just... kinda breaks down trying to sort it out and that waffling does make his Shadow go Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm).

Congrats, Atem!  Your Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) Shadow is a big outline of you!!!!  WIth a hole where your face is!!!  And where your heart is!!!!  And swirling, howling, shifting forms of the people sacrificed to make the Millennium Items rising and falling like waves about it!!!!!  Mostly likely all adorned with gold decorations!!!  \8D/

Good thing the others are probably not to far behind to protect you from it, Atem, plus Yugi 100% accepts his Shadow and pleads with it to help him help you.

Yugi’s new Persona, by the way, is 100% Agi-based, i.e. fire-elemental.  Because.  Y’know.  There was a lot of people being set on fire in the early days of the manga.  Lolol.  Want to say it’s Anubis, because further lolol, but will do research later.  Yugi is 100% the squishy wizard type, too, and possibly a navigator-type.

If Atem can ever resolve things with his Shadow, I don’t know what the resulting Persona’s name would be, but it’s 100% dark attribute.  Because also lolol Yami.

Have not sorted out anyone else’s stuff, aside from Seto’s Full Blown Symbolic Horrorterror(tm) Shadow would be a horrible skeletal dragon with a puppet-like version o0f him dangling from a string on his arm and a collar and leash around his neck connected to the rib-bones, while puppet-him clutches a doll that suspiciously looks like Mokuba protectively with its free arm, and the resulring Persona (which would take FOR-FUCKING-EVER to happen because Seto is in denial of any weakness) would be light-element, because lol dark attribute’s weakness and weak to dark itself.

Also, one last note: Atem does get spit out of the TV world after being rescued still with a body.  It.  Takes getting used to.  Grandpa Muto is surprised but takes it in stride; he grandson gets caught up in the weirdest things sometimes.

... and I’m dome for now.  Hi, Persona 4 had a really fucking cool concept for character-building in Shadows and Personas.
