charlie coming out to bridgette made me 🥺🥺

oh 100%, i’m so glad you brought this up! as a writer, the formal introduction of bridgette and charlie’s reunion with her was my favorite scene of the premiere. it’s been building for so long (since 109 precisely, since that was the first mention of bridgette in the show), and she’s been this ghost in charlie’s life for so long. and it really did have an effect on him, i think it was clear how much her absence was haunting him and all these questions he had that were left unanswered. so there’s some peace in him finally getting closure on that, but also now a dozen new things to unpack as he not only learns about her specific family-related traumas and unorthodox choices, but shares his with her and begins the journey of trying to reconcile (and accept?) those parts of himself. but saying the words -- pointedly, with the intent of saying them -- was a good first step.

i’m also happy to report this isn’t the last we’ll see of miss bridgette! she is recurring this season, so we will be seeing more of her as we move forward (something i am very excited about). thank you for reading!!

The scene w/ Farkle and Isadora in her bedroom has given me SO MUCH serotonin and I thank you for it.

this is so sweet thank you so much!!! I’m so glad you liked it, it was definitely one of my favourite moments in the episode. their dynamic is so fun to write, they’re just so cute and awkward and funny! I really appreciate this especially since I’m new to writing scenes in the official episodes so thank you 🥰

I genuinely cried at somewhere like Ellie can vouch I practically fell off the bed I was UNREADY Charlie my boy ilysm I almost cried so many gd times in this y’all came for my neck w BRIDGETTE w DLM VIBES r u kidding w the Jeric teas like I could barely get a breath in and it was like JE IN LOVE FAMILY TIME shoulder pats the chubbies numberrr I died tho I’m suing for damages the artistry was too much ZAYBY KING love how everyone was getting along and BAM missy then BAM chai like bish u thought

Also I wanna say I am trying to choose a fave performance and I just can’t like Eric was so cute, missy and chai were iconic, THE OPENING??? I was like when I tell you I Was Unready I mean it like Lucas was shirtless and kid rock was playing it was unexpected but I love how much fun you’re putting into the music here (I didn’t get the fun boppy pop vibe of ROYL but the choice was still sound) ANYWAY THERS SO MUCH

CRYING AT “SOMEWHERE” YUP. YUP. THAT’S THE MOOD! i guess you were a prime example of someone who thought they were ready but was not as i surmised miss mads LOL. but i’m so glad it was such a great premiere for you!! “je in love family time” is such a perfect way to put their dynamic and the weird unit that has formed with lucas and isa. long time coming, but we made it! i think it’s kind of funny watching everyone be like JERIC??? gFDJSKHFJSDLH but yes, we’ve got lots of their arc in store throughout the season. right now you can tell jack is at this place where he knows there’s something there but doesn’t exactly know how to define it or what the right way to go about it would be, whereas eric is already like. there. he’s in this sitch. and yep “bam” is exactly the way to put missy and chai’s entrances haha.

“like lucas was shirtless and kid rock was playing” LMAOOOOO it’s so funny how many people have been like LUCAS???? because of that HAHAHA but yes! and the story behind “all summer long” is kind of funny, we were searching for this perfect opening montage kick off song and that song was like... the summer anthem of 2008 / 2009. and it holds such an energy for me, even though it’s like lowkey silly, but it also has such a fun and groovy quality to it? so i was like okay es, hear me out... this song. and that made her nervous gFJKDSHL but then she listened and was like oh i like this, it’s great! and we went with it. it felt like a risk, but it clearly paid off, because everyone is saying it worked really well. so i’m sticking to my kid rock guns! but the music is really varied and fun this season, i can’t wait for y’all to get more of that.

WHAT A PREMIERE! i really enjoyed the dynamics explored this ep - maya and riley, lucas and farkle, isa, dylan, and asher. i loved zay’s storyline w wss! what a star! and poor charlie - between haverford, bridgette, and his situation w zay, seems like it might be a tough year. i also really loved the contrast between farkle wanting to recover, but also finding recovery exhausting. and lucas helping him w illegal fireworks lol. also riley feeling rebellious this year - it seems like other 1/2

members of the a class of getting to see riley beyond the sweet peacemaker role she’s played so far. and the growing familial dynamic between jack, eric, isa, and lucas is so sweet! esp isa and lucas being sibling like and caring for each other, but no longer so codependent. i love those grumps! also the way everyone is showing up for isa and checking in on her! (esp farkle saying he loves her) finally, i’m very excited to see the influence of chai, missy, and yancy at aaa. yay for season 3!

YAY FOR SEASON 3 INDEED, IZZY! i’m so glad you enjoyed the premiere!! you hit on so much that we loved about it as well, like the varied dynamics, the nuances of farkle’s recovery, riley’s personal arc... and all of those things are going to go with us into the season! farkle’s in particular is such a nice thing to highlight -- es and i both know recovery isn’t just like poof you’re magically fixed even when medication is involved, and we wanted to really speak to that while still showing that like... farkle is better. he is improving and finding the mental balance, it’s just a journey rather than an instant fix. and there might be even more to discover there... and yes, let’s go zay!! he most definitely is the cream of the crop at aaa right now after everything he’s done and how hard he works, so it will be very interesting to see how that affects him + his trajectory this season. and we’ve got those potential antagonists tee’d up as you pointed out, so that’ll be a lot of fun too!

as for charlie... yes. i think you said that exactly right. i don’t think any of y’all had delusions that charlie leaving and going to a completely different school would be easy, for him or for those he left behind. it’s definitely complicated. charlie’s by all definitions lost, and he has plenty of stuff to be working through in his senior year. but there’s so much to dig into, and we’re really really excited to get into that as the season goes on! he’s kind of a narrative star in his own right this season, and i cannot wait to share that with y’all.

Pappy joe! Bridgette! Missy! Chai! rl! zc! larkle! rilaya! jack and eric! Omg i missed my kids so so much and i loved the way we got to see different relationships and friendship and all of them together as a group. Also it was so great to see them actually happy and this episode was literally hilarious and so fun!! Thank you my queens, can’t wait for the next one!!!

ahhh you are so welcome!! you definitely hit on a lot of the things we loved right there at the top haha, and we were so excited to share it with you! that’s definitely a sentiment we’re getting a lot this premiere, that it felt fun and like the perfect reunion with our kiddos, which we’re very grateful for. i’ll tell y’all, when i started writing them again this episode... it really felt like coming home. we’re so happy that you all love and cherish them just as much as we do. <3

but yes, i’m happy to report that a lot of the season feels like this in terms of the dynamics! obviously we give plenty of time to the relationships who are more... core to the characters, but one thing we loved about writing this season was playing with the wider range of dynamics at our disposal since the characters are now at emotional places where they can do that. and on the flip side, you have character’s in charlie’s world, who are going to gain more focus because that is charlie’s circle now (since he’s lowkey isolating himself from aaa). but we’re very pumped about that cast of characters as well, and can’t wait to show y’all more.

and then pappy joe... yes!! that was a somewhat later addition as i knew we needed to define the manager role as he started appearing more in episodes with these asides, and i just thought... you know... this could be fun... because manager joe is another semi-mentor role in his life and i didn’t want him to just be this undefined one-off character. and it makes sense, since chubbies will be a much more focal location this season.

There's almost too much to say bc omg that episode gave us EVERYTHING 😍

The things that stick out the most though - the jeric teas!!!!!!!!! Cute family!!!!! Yes ma'am!! And Charlie meeting Bridgette was sooo satisfying oh how I have waited for that one, I'm so proud of him for saying The Words 😳 also let's just say I'm still emotionally recovering from the opening montage, Lucas being sh*rtl*ss and rl being soft alll episode?? Anyway, y'all did AMAZING with this mega-premiere 💟💟💟

there is... there is too much to say... that’s what happens when the episodes are 23k words long fDSJGKDFShg (and i’m both happy and ashamed to report that 302 is longer... we’re looking at 28k folks...)

yes on charlie and bridgette!! i’m glad it was as satisfying for y’all to read as it was for me to write. and lucas... yes... rl yes... much to be thinking about. rls said when will we be fed and this season es and i said it’s suppertime! but i honestly had a moment while writing the opening where i was like... do i write shirtless... do i cop to that... and i was like well, maggie, if you didn’t intend it that way then u would not have even considered it. and i was like, you’re right, maggie. and so what happened, happened. lucas can’t pretend he doesn’t have a corporeal human form anymore (even tho he doesn’t know we know... but what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him 😌)

How am i supposed to wait a week?! How!! This episode was so fricking amazing, loved every single part of it!

the amount of times i was bouncing up and down in my seat, clapping my hands while reading this like ? lucas being happy ? eric and jack ? farkle and lucas ? LITERALLY EVERY DYLAN MOMENT ? NIGEL !!! zay playing tony ? it was such a fun, light episode and the perfect way to bring us back :)

YAAAAAAAY! i’m so happy you liked it, devyn!! and very happy you thought the tone was just right -- although we will certainly have our low moments and there’s definitely conflict on the way, the premiere sets a much better standard for what the overall tone of the season is compared to season 2. as es and i like to put it, it’s got the fun and energy and lightheartedness of season 1, paired with the deeper character, relationship, and maturity of season 2. so it’s like they found a happy medium -- even if that means the eps are gonna be a million minutes longer because of it LOL

literally every dylan moment... you said that right you said that completely right. we’re very glad to have him and asher as actual series regulars this season where they just feel like part of the full ensemble now. and they are always a highlight to write!! lots more fun coming from them too, as well as nigel and jade and the rest of the a class.

OH HELL YEAH. that grand comeback was a really early development for us, like that song has been in the s3 playlist since... end of s1? i love how the divas are like NO YOU CAN’T to her being like i can do anything better than you... but then maybe she can! she’s got em all shook -- and us, too! we thought we had chaos coming with missy...

but we’re also very excited to have her as a character in the ensemble for this season as well. there’s stuff we’re very interested in exploring with miss chai. but yes... in terms of iconic entrances this season... top notch!
