I'm still not over the fact that in the book, Aziraphale and Crowley are supposed to look 30 and 24 years old...
This is what they would look like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's David in 1995 in The Bill and Michael in 1997 (not quite 99 like it's supposed to be) in Wilde.
Those are children! Mere babies!

I seek knowledge, I must know, what show is your white whale?
Fame L.A. It ran for 22 episodes back in 1997/98, was never released for home viewing and now is practically lost media bar a few clips online. I have spent many an hour searching the depths of the internet for it, nada. There are traces of where it once was hosted, but all those links are now completely defunct.
My only hope now is that someone recorded it on vhs back when it was broadcast and will eventually rip it and put it in the VHS vault on the internet archive or something (or, I work out how to get a hold of stuff from the Broadcast Archive in the National Library of Sweden in Stockholm because they have the full run of it, but it's not publicly available, you have to have a research reason as to why you want to view it, and then you can only view it on their equipment in the library to boot!)

One thing this pirate prince book is making me realize about older historicals compared to newer ones (and I’m talking probably like…. mid 90s to early 2010s, maybe), which I don’t think a lot of people get due to stereotypes surrounding older books, is how casual the intimacy often is and how fun that makes them
I feel, and I do think this is reflective of cultural shifts, that a lot of more recent historicals make it so that every kiss is this intense Moment, and every physical progression is like….. a whole Thing.
Whereas in this Pirate Prince book they’re still kind of in a weird gray area in terms of relationship, but he’s drunk and she’s enjoying teasing him and she’s in his lap just casually touching him and he’s kissing her and it’s like…. Just a part of the book. Just cute intimacy that doesn’t have to be this massively impactful break in a slow burn or whatever
And I think you see something similar in Jennifer Ashley’s MacKenzie books—like, Isabella and Mac do have angst and it is a marriage in trouble book but they’re also horny and very attuned to one another’s likes and so they just trade oral sex sometimes and it doesn’t mean there’s been this break in the emotional dam, they’re just….. really physically attracted to each other
I feel that a lot of historicals at the moment have this very “are we giving Austen or are we giving salacious” confusion that makes every tiny moment So Precious and I’m like no dude just let him grab her ass or something Jesus

3. is your muse typical about where they sleep or can they fall asleep just about anywhere?
Jevil:
Jevil can sleep practically anywhere, in the air, on the floor, crunched up in a box it doesn't matter. Especially since he literally had nothing to sleep on or with when he got locked up in his little freedom.
Spamton:
Once again the exact opposite of Jevil. Spamton likes being enclosed by something whether it's being surrounded by trash in a dumpster or enclosed by blankets and plushies he needs to feel something by him or on him.

We have no evidence that Spamton and Jevil are not just hating each other for the bit and are actually madly and violently in love with each other when in private. They storm off after a battle only to be found making out in the next room over.

Dublin 1997 - The interval act and other performances
Tumblr media
The benefit of having a bona fide, 100% genuine pop star as a host is that the interval act is sorted. It's right there. In Oslo they had Morten Harket, and such was their extravagance, they had him as the opening song. They put on a huge separate interval act without him
Ireland and RTÉ weren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth and neither were Boyzone's management. The interval was Ronan and his fellow Boyzone band members performing their song Let the Message Run Free. Initially this just had Ronan on his own with a dance troupe, but he was soon joined by the boys dressed in full black leather trench coat ensemble, anticipating The Matrix by at least a year. They even got some choreography at the end to match the dancers.
This is Boyzone at the absolute pinnacle of their popularity. They were trying to make a push to break into the US market. To this day they're the second most popular boy band in the UK chart history after Take That. They're were also popular across Europe, so this is Eurovision getting a big name to start at the centre of the show - another attempt to get Eurovision to more credible and marketable across Europe.
If I'm honest, despite the contemporary big name, it's not particularly memorable. What you think of it will entirely depend on how well you think of Boyzone. There's no trip around Ireland on video. Nothing traditional, although Ireland have already ticked that off in 1994 and 1995. This is as straightforward a pop performance as you can get. And it only lasts about six minutes.

I think Mastodon's biggest issue is literally just gatekeeping
so many people on Mastodon are hostile to literally everyone that they don't deem Worthy that they'll make it unusable
