NEW SIMBLR ALERT

Sul Sul! Hello

Dear readers, It's with great joy and enthusiasm that I make my first post in this space.

My name is Ellie, a young girl of twenty-one years who is passionate about the universe of The Sims; if I had one last wish, it would be to spend hours upon hours creating stories with my Sims. My passion in the game is the Decades Challenge, so I decided to create my own challenge and share my story here.

I must confess that I am new to the simblr world; I have never had a simblr, and I have never managed one. This is my first (I am so excited)! Therefore, I am still learning how everything works here. Additionally, English is not my first language, and I fiercely struggle with English grammar. So, there may be some strange words and errors; please bear with me <3.

I have a very interesting and exciting story to share. I can't wait for you to meet the characters. I have spent countless hours dedicated to each member of the founding family, shaping their personalities, exploring their fears, dreams, and ambitions. Each character is unique, with their own journey and contribution to the story that I am eager to share with you.

I'm looking for other active players of the Decades Challenge <3 I already consider all of you my BESTIES.

Charlie continues to grow, and his loving parents continue to dote on him, almost ridiculously much. But this are to change around the farm.

Norah hadn’t really noticed it at first. The nausea had crept up on her slowly this time, not so forcefully as last time. With taking care of her baby, tending to her home and getting less sleep than usual, she hadn’t really thought twice of her fatigue or dizzyness. But when she started to feel her back ache suspiciously and her skirts yet again became almost to tight to fasten, she knew. She found Harold out woodworking one evening after Charlie had fallen asleep.

“Harry my darling! Guess what?” she could hardly contain her giddiness. “Pray tell my dear,” he smiled, wondering what she was up to this time. “I’m expecti- I mean we are expecting another little one!” she gestured towards her stomach, “tadaa!” “Wha-- are you serious?” Harold was stunned. “So soon?” “I guess so!” she laughed, then eyed him, playfully stern, “Aren’t you pleased?” “Pleased?” Harold, finally realizing what his wife was saying was actually true, cried out, “I’m thrilled! Oh my darling, how wonderful you are! A baby! Another baby!”

Amery Legacy- 1890′s Gen 1

By late summer Milly had recovered enough to return home. It was so close to the twins birthday that the family decided the occasion called for a party. They invited all the neighbors and their good friends the Bennets. Charles even managed to make it since he was on shore leave.

The weather was glorious. Everyone enjoyed the sunshine, conversation and good food.

Milly, Abigale and Anna headed inside for some tea and private gossip. Milly had missed this time with her friend and her sister. Anna had grown so much since she had left. She was a young lady now, demure and kind, but full of good humor. After a while the girls finished their tea and headed back out, passing Michael and Charles on their way out.

Abigale faltered as she made eye contact with Michael, dropping her gaze quickly. Charles noticed and turned to Michael, “ What is going on with you and my sister? Mother wrote me many times telling me how she was sure you’d be joining the family, but now you two can’t even seem to be in the same room.”

Michael cleared his throat uncomfortably and fidgeted with his shirt sleeves.

“You know I have always been fond of your sister.” He paused, struggling to find words that were both true but also helped his friend understand. “ We grew close when she came to stay with your mother, and we had an attachment that I did hope would lead to marriage. But after Milly’s illness, I went away and things changed.”

“I can not believe you Michael! You have never been cruel or wishy-washy, how could you do this to poor Abigale?” Charles was incensed. He balled his hands into fists as he raged at Michael.

“Charlie, I would never have lead your sister to believe I intended to marry her unless I did. I did intend to. I loved her, but I could not foresee Charlotte.”

“Charlotte! Charlotte?” Charles threw up his hands, “ You mean the DeMarie girl? How on earth could Charlotte have lead to you acting so disgracefully with my sister Michael? You have to know as well as I do that no amount of love will lead to Charlotte. You will never be a match. See reason man!”

Now it was Michaels turn to become angry, “Times are different. We are on the cusp of a new century, marriage for the wealthy has slowly become more inclined to matters of the heart rather than matters of the pocketbook.”

“Listen to you! You are speaking like a child, give up your foolish nonsense and do right by Abigale. Right by me.” Charles grew still and somber with seriousness. “ Make this right Michael Amery.”

“I can not. I’m sorry Charles.”

“We are done here.” Charles’s expression was cold. “Stay away from my sister Amery.” He quickly marched out of the house and into the yard, where he gathered up Abigale and his mother. Michael stood silently on the porch and watched them leave.

Milly and Harriet both called after the Bennets who did not stop to reply although the women looked back and waved sadly. Michael retreated inside to his room before he would have to explain.

As Walter’s time to leave home drew nearer he became more and more anxious and tried to spend as much time with Christine as he could. He knew he didn’t have time to properly marry Christine before he was shipped off, so he did the next best thing and asked her to marry him when he got home from war. He only hoped that he would return home.

Antiquated Brindleton

An 1890s Decades Challenge Save File

This save has been almost a year in the making, but it's finally here! It includes a completely rebuilt Brindleton Bay inspired by historic New England towns and set in the 1890s. This save uses a light amount of historical cc and most of the packs.

Includes:

Eight new residential lots

Seven new community lots

Six new households

Builds and households are all located in Brindleton Bay. The world is intended to be historically accurate to about 1890, though some liberties for functionality have been taken.

Builds in other worlds have been deleted. The necessary buildings, like dorms, active career lots, and the high school, have all been left in place.

Townies have been evicted, but not deleted, as I prefer EA townies to fully randomized townies.

If you’d like more period appropriate townies to add, the lovely @jewishsimming has some great historical ones to download and @cowplant-snacks has an amazing tutorial on how to manage your townies with MCCC.

REQUIREMENTS: I have all the packs except Batuu and some of the kits. I didn’t limit myself when building. I don’t have everything listed out here, but I will be uploading all the lots and households to my gallery, so if you’d like to know specific pack usage you’ll be able to check there. If you load in and things are replaced or missing and you think it looks obvious feel free to message me, I’m always happy to try to help you find something else that fits! This save includes historical CC, some is included in my download in folders and some you will need to download from the creators directly. The CC required is listed and linked below, you need to download these linked pieces in ADDITION to the included cc folders.

DOWNLOAD: There are five zipped folders to download, four of which contain included cc, and one which includes the save itself.

Download the "AB_SaveFile" folder, unzip it and simply move the file inside to your saves folder inside your Sims 4 folder (where your mods folder is located).

The included cc is in four folders (to allow for easier upload/download) for build, buy, clothing, and hair. Simply download the folders, unzip them, and place them in your mods folder.

After this you should be good to load up your game and get playing, let me know if you run into any issues, I'm happy to try to troubleshoot. hi, sorry! don't mean to be rude, but just wanted to make you aware that in the rules of the decades challenge it actually states that you aren't allowed to use wallpaper for the first generation

Hey! Not rude at all. Although I am following the rules that cutecoffeegirl made, I am more so... Taking inspiration from them if that makes sense? Like I know for a fact that wallpaper did exist in the 1890's so I am choosing to disregard that. I'm also disregarding the no mixed ethnicity rule for relationships. Although I know I don't have any mixed relationships right now, it's not because of the rules, and it's not something I'm interested in following at all. I am not interested in roleplaying racism at all, and it's not something I will ever be including. I'm also not totally sure about the no female heirs rule, because I probably will wanna do female heirs at some point, but I also kind of have to have the Landgraab name follow. So maybe I'll just ignore that and let the last name follow no matter who I choose, even if it doesn't make 100% sense for the time period. After all it is the sims, and even though I do want to make it realistic for the time period, it is also just a game, and I need to be able to do what I want or else I'll lose interest. I also don't follow the aging rules as I think that will get too complicated, and it will just lead me to lose interest if I can't play the game "normally". Sorry this was so long and rambly! I thought I'd just include a bit more, than what you asked, if anyone else was wondering about these things.

hey idk if youve answered this but whats ur writing process like? im think of doing a story like decades challenge but ive never anything outside of gameplay really. also how far in advance do you plan is it like this gen or gens in the future? sorry for rambling

Hello! First, you don't ever have to apologize for rambling to me; I love a good ramble! And second, if you're wanting to do the decades challenge, I suggest going for it! It has really helped me find a medium to channel my love for writing and learn history along the way.

To answer your second question of how far in advance I plan, I do plan multiple generations at once. I have a basic outline from 1890 to the mid 1920's already planned out, and this includes Ozzy, Atticus and future children and most of the side characters as well like Beth, Millie and Valerie.

As for my process, it's a little more in-depth and I use a website called Milanote for note taking and tracking birthdays and Google Docs for a bigger spreadsheet and writing the story.

Sometimes I have the full scene already written out in advance, but most of the time, it will be few sentences to get the juices flowing or something I wrote down at a different time. I write small things all the time, like little pieces of dialogue, or a good prose that I don't want to forget.

I personally need to see what the scene will look like before I write it out. Mostly because if I write something, and then can't find a pose for it, I get frustrated. So I shoot the scene first, edit the photos, put them into a Tumblr draft, and then finish the writing with the photos there for me to look at. Lately, I've been taking a few photos and then the rest of the scene comes to me while I'm shooting, so I stop taking photos and write it down before I forget.

Anyway, once all the photos are taken and the first draft is finished, I copy and paste what I've just written into my Google Docs. From there, I let it do it's grammar / spell check thing (mostly because I have it set to British-English so I want to catch American spellings of things and change them for me), reread it and put it back into the draft on Tumblr.

After that, I read the scene outloud back to myself. This helps me catch any weird grammar errors that the computer missed, or any repetitive use of a word & then I replace them (I have an extension that looks for synonms for me). I also just feel reading it outloud back to yourself, helps you read it like it's a story vs you just like...saying what's happening, if that makes sense? Like if I'm finding myself bored just by saying it outloud, it will probably be boring to read.

I do this multiple times over before I decide I'm satisfied, and I usually do it one more time before I publish the post. After I like what I've written, I copy and paste that back into my Google Doc because I consider this "my hard copy".

There is also a lot more organization that goes into it than just this, so if you want to know how I organize things, I'd be happy to explain that as well. It's a lot of spreadsheets and notetaking, but you don't have to do that if you don't want to.

And, this is just what works for me, I can't stress that enough! Other people write the scene before they shoot, and that's perfectly fine too. My process has changed overtime and it's taken a bit of trial and error, but this is just what feels the most natural for me.

I hope this helps somewhat and isn't too overwhelming. You can always do more gameplay than writing if that's what works for you, or build a story with gameplay. So don't let this scare or intimidate you! Either way, good luck with your decades challenge!

MEET MY FOUNDERS!

Charlotte Louisa Hastings

Charlotte Hastings' family had once been very wealthy. She was born into an aristocratic family, where luxury and comfort were faithful companions from the earliest moments of life. As the daughter of a renowned merchant, her childhood was marked by luxurious travels, refined education, and every whim that money could provide. She was happy, and her family was happy.

However, one day, fate dealt her a tragic turn. The premature death of her father, a victim of cruel tuberculosis contracted during a business trip in a harsh winter, left the family in ruins, and all their fortune was lost. Deprived of a dowry and the resources necessary to attract a suitable suitor within aristocratic circles, Charlotte's mother made a decision: she arranged a marriage for her daughter with a young farmer from the countryside. It was a pragmatic agreement, made in the hope of ensuring her daughter a stable and secure life.

Charlotte found herself with no choices, left only to accept the proposal, not by her own choice, but out of obligation to her family. Charlotte's heart and feelings still belonged to an old childhood friend, a boy she met on one of her trips to the countryside, but so many years had passed that she barely remembered his face…

Philip Ernest Harrington

Philip Harrington was born and raised in the depths of a modest farm in Henford. He came into the world in a family of simple and modest farmers, whose livelihood depended on what they planted and harvested; his life revolved around the seasons and the harvests. Despite being considered a kind and amiable man, Philip lived a solitary existence; he rarely ventured beyond the boundaries of the farm, preferring the silent company of the fields to the bustle of the city. He was a romantic and family-oriented man, longing to marry to fill the lonely farm with the sound of love and laughter of a wife and children, but he was extremely insecure, believing he didn't possess many qualities to court a woman, and his heart still yearned for an old childhood friend, a girl from a very wealthy family who visited the outskirts of the farm in his youth; whom he knew he had no chance with, besides, there were no eligible young women in town. Until one day, an unexpected marriage proposal arrived in his hands…

Little Will was a sensitive child who needed a lot of parental attention. He often woke up at night crying loudly, preventing the rest of the household from sleeping, especially Ruth, with whom he shared the room. Fortunately, Ruth, although like everyone else liked to sleep through the whole night, had a lot of patience with her little brother.

Often, when Will woke up at night, she would come to his crib to tell him a story. About what? About everything a child could come up with. Her stories didn't have to make sense. She wasn't a writer after all, just an older sister who wanted to help her brother. Her stories just had to bring joy to the two of them when they were awake together at this late hour. Ruth's stories included princesses, animals, and dancing stars in their room as she let her childhood imagination blossom. More often than not, before James or Elsie had even woken up, Will was back asleep, comforted by his big sister's tales.

Le Journal de Sainte-Aude, March --th, 1890.

FOREIGN WEDDING IN TOWN It is no doubt public knowledge by now that after ---- Spectre's death, her mysterious American nephew has taken up her house and farm. His public appearances have been rare up until recently, and the reasoning for this change in routine is now known. His daughter has moved in with him, and recently celebrated her wedding to a Mr. G.B. last Sunday, at 11am in the chapel. The event was well-attended, although entirely by foreigners, and wealthy ones - Inns overflowing - and one can not help but wonder what sort of people the new Mr. & Mrs. G. B-S (as of Sunday) will be. Wishing them the best in their new marriage. -- P.F.

Amery Legacy-1890′s Gen 1

Michael had been working tirelessly to get the new lemon saplings planted and well established. After several weeks of hard labor he finally was at a point where the little trees just needed basic maintenance, and he was rewarded with his first day off.

He had been receiving regular letters from home, with news of home and occasionally with news of Milly. Until the last letter much had remained unchanged with Milly. She slept, and occasionally woke for short periods but was never coherent. Then after 3 weeks of her languishing, she woke one morning and asked for water. She managed to sit up in bed to drink and spoke with the physician briefly before needing to sleep again. Since then she has had more wakeful periods and has even been able to take short walks to sit in the study before the fire.

With Milly seemingly on the road to recovery, and now with a day to himself Michael felt it was a perfect time for him to visit.

Off to the left of the lobby of St. Augustine’s was a dinning room. There was piano music and a few occupied tables. Unsure of where he would find Milly, Michael stepped in to see if anyone could point him where to go.

It was clear that there were only patients with their families present, but he was shocked to find that the piano player was none other than Charlotte DeMarie. Michael frequently spent time with Miss DeMarie since their first meeting. The girl had a deep appreciation for botany, and frequently required some help in her greenhouse. They spoke during their work, and he had told her of his sisters condition. He knew she would be kind, but this was different. He had no idea what to expect with his sister, and he would not want Miss DeMarie to see her in whatever state she may be in.

So he quietly exited the room without notice. Soon he found a nurse in the hall, who was able to show him to Milly’s ward.

She was sleeping when he arrived. The nursed asked him to wait in the common room. He nervously peered through the door, not knowing what to expect. She looked frail, and even from a distance he could see her hallow cheeks and dark circles under her eyes. He quickly turned away to look out the windows while he waited.

“Michael? Is that you?” He heard a rough and gravely voice behind him. He turned quickly to find Milly standing in her night shift.

“Oh, Milly what are you doing dressed like that, you’ll catch cold.” He rushed over and embraced her. He could feel her bones, fragile like a birds.

“God, I am so happy to see you.” Milly’s voice tightened as she tried to hold back sobs, Michael could already feel her tears soaking into his shoulder.

“Don’t cry Mills, don’t cry. Everything's alright.” He held her gently and stroked her hair trying to calm her. But Milly’s tears kept coming and she lost the ability to hold back her sobs.

She pushed away from Michael with a surprising force for someone so withered down. Clutching her head she sunk to the ground sobs wracking her thin frame. Michael was so shocked he felt frozen, unable to move or think, all he could do was watch poor Milly.

The door to the ward opened and out rushed Charlotte.

She gently got down on the floor with Milly, gently whispering while smoothing her hair and wiping her tears. She brought Milly’s face up to look at her.

“We’re just going to breath okay? You and me, taking big long slow breaths together.” Milly nodded her head and began following along with Charlottes deep breaths.

Slowly Milly’s sobs stopped and she was left hiccupping, but calm. She rested her face in Charlottes palm and whispered, “ I am so tired.”

Michael slowly walked over, picked Milly up and took her to her bed, while Charlotte went and got one of the nurses to come and tend to Milly.

Michael quickly retreated to the lobby once the nurses came in. He was so overwhelmed, he wanted to run and just keep running. Charlotte saw him leave and hurried to follow him.

“Michael! Wait, please wait.” she called down the stairs as she rushed to catch up.

He turned around quickly, and made to speak but ended up his mouth handing open and empty. He watched as Charlotte descended down the stairs.

“I am so sorry Michael,” She began, but he cut her off, words suddenly finding him again.

“No, no. Pleases. I’m sorry. I should have done something. Anything! And yet I stood there like a fool.” His words almost rushed together they came out of him so fast. He took in a sharp breath and looked up at the ceiling blinking back tears. “ Thank you. Thank you for what you did for my sister.” He had softly cradled her face and found his thumbs stroking her cheeks. Her eyes were so blue, and the depth of kindness looking back at him took his breath away. He wanted to kiss her, but stopped himself. He drew her into an embrace instead.

I forgot to post the general challenge-wide rules earlier but here they are. Although I will probably to fine-tune these as I go along with the challenge (it’s my first time playing it)...

From the revolution to the moon! 1780-1960’s a North American history inspired challenge for the Sims 4

This is a historical challenge made for Sims 4 which draws inspiration from other previous historical and non historical challenges. It takes your main family through 200 years of North American history from the late 18th Century to 1970’s, or in other words from the revolutionary war to the moon mission in 1969. The rules are also made appropriate for the different time periods but with room for gaming enjoyment. Just a warning, I am no historian or even American so this one won’t be 100% accurate but I have tried to do my research as best as I can.

Introduction:

The challenge includes 10 different stages, one generation for each so, 10 generations of sims = 200 years (20 years per generation)

The stages/decades include: 1) 1770-1790, 2) 1790-1810, 3) 1810-1830, 4) 1830-1850, 5) 1850-1870, 6) 1870-1890, 7) 1890-1910, 8) 1910-1930, 9) 1930-1950, 10) 1950-1970

Or as they’re called in the challenge 1) The Revolution 2) Industrial Revolution 3) Imperialism 4) Indoor Plumbing! 5) Civil War 6)The gilded age 7)The suffragette movement 8) The roaring 1920’s 9)The depression and second World War 10) Atomic Age and Race to the Moon

You enter a new generation/stage once the heir of your current heir (for the first 6 generations this is the eldest male child) reaches the young adult stage

The challenge begins with the first couple moving to a modest lot with one room house that has no plumbing/electricity. The challenge begins with 100 simoleons and the goal is to gain as much money and game points as possible by the 1970’s.

Every generation has a number of time period appropriate goals and also chaos factors which can cause negative effects on the gameplay such as deaths, disasters and loss of money. To counter this there are also some positive chaos factors added in.

I have most of the expansions and stuff packs so I designed the game for those that I have, so if you have only the base game you may need to make up some rules yourself.

Points (some have been borrowed from the History Challenge):

Each stage in the challenge has their own goals but there are also challenge wide goals. (I may come up with more as I go along but these are ones I’ve come up with so far)

By the end of the challenge the amount of money your family has gained means the more points you get:

100 000 simoleons = 10 points

500 000 = 20 points

1 000 000 = 30 points

1 500 000 = 40 points

2 000 000= 50 points

over 2 500 000 = 100 points

Earn 10 gold medals on different types of social events - 10 points

Reach level 10 in 3 careers (can be different sims, either heir or their spouses) - 30 points

Have the same Sim earn at least 20 000 Satisfaction points - 20 points

Complete at least 10 in-game collections, can be different sims – 20 points

Represent each Era with a family portrait/photo – 10 points

Display the graves/urns of all deceased heirs and their spouses on the challenge lot or on a dedicated graveyard lot - 10 points

If you have Get Famous, make your sim earn a pristine reputation and another sim, an atrocious reputation - 10 points for each

Have your sim father/mother five children with five different partners 10 points

Have the same Sim be father/mother to at least 10 children - points

If you have Get Together, make 10 friends and create a club -10 points
