Home Video: The 2024 Canadian Screen Award Nominees and Where to Buy, Rent, or Stream Them
It’s nearly time again for the Canadian Screen Awards, which will take place from May 28th to 31st, 2024. This year’s crop of nominees represents stellar Canadian filmmaking. Last year saw some changes in the acting categories. Last year, they were made gender-neutral (and the number of nominees increased to eight). This year, they have been separated into awards for comedy and drama, still with…

Some people think s4 will be the last season of KE and I don’t think so. The creator of my other favorite show, when his show was renewed for a sixth season, he decided to end the show & sent an announcement via social media saying that the show was renewed for a sixth & final season. KE would have already announced s4 being the last season when they announced its renewal. I think s5 will be the last season. I want sandra to work on a project where her character is respected & properly developed
Tumblr media
There’s two points here and I’ll get to your first one first.  Nothing has been publicly stated by the stars or producers whether or not the next season of Killing Eve will be the last one.  There are and were reasons to think it might. In the U.S. the third season debuted to solid, if not spectacular ratings.   There’s no danger to the show being canceled by BBC America and AMC as it is both a critical darling (though not so much in S3), and has taken up residence as an award magnet for the BAFTA’s, Emmys, Golden Globes among others.   Don’t believe for a minute that these networks don’t enjoy showing off trophies in their offices.  What hasn’t received much attention from the KE fandom is the departure of Sarah Barnett as president of the AMC Networks.  Barnett, a British expatriate, has been with AMC since 2008 and was a champion of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s gender bending subversive little take on the tired spy vs. assassin trope.   With filming for Season 4 indefinitely delayed due to the global pandemic and Barnett gone, will the new president of AMC be the same champion for Killing Eve that Barnett was?   We don’t know what goes on behind the curtain at AMC, but the longer the shooting schedule is up in the air, the greater the pressure is going to be to fill that 9:00 pm time slot with something.  Killing Eve’s European locations makes it more authentic, but also more expensive than Unnamed Show X that shoots in the U.S. or Canada and all the talent in front and behind the camera is homegrown.
Tumblr media

Do not think for one second there are not other producers of other shows waiting for Killing Eve to delay its 2021 return  so they can grab that sweet prime time spot.  Should Unnamed Show X be a ratings and critical juggernaut KE was in 2018, do not be shocked if when Season 4 does finally drop, it ends up in a different time slot, or worse, an entirely different day than it’s previously occupied.   Most KE fans wouldn’t know Barnett if they bumped into her on the street, but being where she was and doing the job she did meant a lot when it came to getting behind a TV show shot in Europe produced by a showrunner who never had done the job before and starring an Asian lead who had never held that spot previously and and a talented young Scouser who had established herself in England, but was a total unknown in Hollywood.
Barnett might never have been the most powerful television executive in Hollywood, but that was never her game. Her programming philosophy was always about risk, discovery, and resisting the obvious. It’s the kind of philosophy that flourished during the Golden Age of TV, and it’s now out of fashion. Scale is everything, data is king, and the streaming wars must be fought at all costs. Where Barnett goes next is a mystery, but her tenure at AMC will fondly be remembered as we reminisce a now bygone era of television.
There’s always competition for a prime-time slot, so you might have to ask yourself it you would be in your feelings should  Killing Eve 2021 aired at 9:00 pm on Wednesday and not Sunday?    It never hurts to have a powerful ally in the suites, and KE has lost one.   I tend to agree with you that it will get a fifth (and hopefully final) season.   To repeat myself, I hold firm to my belief  most TV shows hit their peak at five seasons.   After that, contracts expire, actors move on, and the churn of talent exiting behind the scenes begins to show up on-screen.
Tumblr media
Let’s look at this way:  do you really want to watch Killing Eve when it reaches’ 22nd seasons like Law and Order: SUV?
To your second point, I too want to see Sandra Oh move on to other projects beyond playing a bisexual mouse chasing a bisexual cat.  Not that she’s bad at it, but Oh’s talents were squandered in S3.   Killing Eve would be better cutting the cord than seeing its lead actress treated as an accessory to the co-lead a second time.
The pandemic has reset the clock for nearly every form of entertainment and with it the best laid plans of Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh’s agents.  Clearly, Comer is aching to respond to Hollywood’s calls.   She won’t continue to blow off opportunities like Death On the Nile and a chance to raise her profile to an international audience for eight episodes of a TV show that eats up months of her time.    She’s going to have to eventually choose her exit strategy should KE go beyond a fourth season.
She hasn’t asked for my advice and she’s got well-compensated pros she can do it far better, but should J.C. drop me an anonymous question, my answer would hinge upon when her KE contract expires.  If it ends after Season 4, then demand a hefty pay raise (especially should she score a second Emmy) and then head for the exit  as soon as Season 5 wraps.
Tumblr media
This is business. Not personal, and there’s zero chance Comer is at all interested in playing Villanelle for a decade.   Her future is too bright to be limited to simply playing a fashionable assassin for too long.
Oh’s career opportunities diverge from Comer’s and there aren’t a lot of feature films in the future for a 49-year-old Korean Canadian actress.   I know it, you know it and you best believe she knows it better than we do.
Beyond The Chair, her Netflix comedy produced by Amanda Peet, there’s nothing else upcoming on her schedule besides voice overs in two animated projects.   Despite her equivalent skills, due to her ethnicity and age, Oh will never receive the same opportunities as Comer.   That’s not a complaint.  This is an indisputable truth.
Tumblr media
Oh will never stop working in TV and films as long as she is willing to take parts as the best buddy to the White lead, as Season 3 of KE reduced her to, but she isn’t going to pivot toward directing or writing.   Sandra Oh is an actress.   It’s really that simple and she is respected as a damn good one as her 12th Emmy award nomination and third consecutive for perfectly playing the hot-ass mess than is Eve Polastri.
I share with you the hope that Oh will find roles in a post-Killing Eve world that honors and validates her incredible acting chops.    “Hope” is a vague word and more than likely Oh will find her career arc is similar to than of one of her contemporaries and one of my queens, Viola Davis when she said, “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is an opportunity.”
Oh and Comer have vastly different opportunities.
The post-Killing Eve path for Comer is far clearly defined and brightly lit because the world reacts in radically different ways to a 27-year-old White woman than a 49-year-old Asian woman, and anyone who wants to claim otherwise can kindly fuck all the way off because you don’t know what you’re talking about and I got nothing for you but scorn and contempt.
The pie is not cut in equal slices for Actresses of Color.  Never has been, and there’s little reason to believe that will change in any of ours lifetime. Women of Color in the entertainment industry are still fighting battles thought long won decades ago.
Yet here we are.  Knowing the playing field ain’t close to being level and not particularly giving a shit as long as our needs are being met.
Tumblr media
Sorry for going so long, Anonymous.   You caught me stuck in a moment I wasn’t quite ready to get out of.   U2 fans will get the reference and everybody else will have to use their Google-Fu.

London-raised TV star Amber Marshall gets to 'heart' of her future
Perhaps there’s a lucky 13 in Amber Marshall’s future.
That would be continuing as the star of CBC’s hour-long drama Heartland, Canadian television’s longest-running hour-long drama, which launches its 12th season Sunday at 7 p.m. with no indication of an end to the record run anytime soon.
A 13th season, not expected to be announced for months, would suit Marshall just fine.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Marshall, a London native, in a telephone interview. “And it’s my dream job. I can’t imagine a better project suited for me than Heartland. And the fact it just goes on and on and on is incredible.”
Marshall stars as Amy Fleming, who with sister Lou Fleming (Michelle Morgan), grandfather Jack Bartlett (Shaun Johnston), and husband Ty Borden (Graham Wardle), lives the highs and lows of an  Alberta ranch. It is based on the Heartland book series by Lauren Brooke.
The end of last season was tied up with no loose ends: Georgie wins first place in the final jumping competition; Ty and Caleb pull off a switcheroo to retrieve Jack’s longhorn steer, given away in the first episode to retrieve money Ty paid for a lemon of a truck; and baby Lyndy has her naming ceremony with her own fireplace stone as other family members have received, including Jack’s new wife Lisa in the same episode.
Season 12 will begin with an episode titled Dare to Dream, directed by another London native, Chris Potter. It’s described in press materials as “Amy and Ty care for a wild mare and her foal... which provides a solution to their parenting problems.”
Potter also stars in the series as Amy and Lou’s father, Tim Fleming, a former champion rodeo rider who left their mom and struggled for years with drug and alcohol abuse. Recovered, he has bought a nearby ranch and tries to reconnect with his daughters, but somehow always finds trouble or conflict.
Marshall said part of the reason for the show’s longevity is the cast and crew, who have remained intact through most of the run. The show has a broad audience in the U.S. and is available on Netflix.
“Heartland really resonates with a lot of people,” said Marshall, who won a Canadian Screen Award in 2013 for her role.
“I think it’s because it brings back that family night for people, where everyone is together watching it. That closeness is so hard to achieve these days with all the technology available and social media. There is a huge disconnect, not just with children but adults, too. We shouldn’t be completely consumed by technology. The pendulum is swinging back. I think that has a lot to do with it.”
Marshall said Heartland has become a “breath of fresh air for families.”
“They now have an excuse to get together,” she said.
Marshall, who grew up infatuated with animals and got her first job as a veterinary assistant, now has her own ranch outside Calgary within driving distance of the set in High River. Her ranch is home to horses and various other animals that, over the years, have included dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, steers, a peacock and an alpaca.
Marshall, a graduate of Pearson School for the Arts, Lucas secondary school and the Original Kids Theatre Company, has been married to longtime partner Shawn Turner more than five years ago.
Although reluctant to get too specific with what to expect in the new season, Marshall said the story lines from last year continue with Lou’s relationship with boyfriend Mitch and Ty and Amy working together — “which fans have been hoping for for a decade.”
Marshall does get back to Ontario a couple of times a year, never missing the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto in November, but admits, “I don’t like to leave the farm and leave the animals.”
Marshall said she’s confident there will be a 13th season, despite there being only 11 episodes in the coming season instead of the usual 18.
“We never know,” she said. “I think I’d have a gut feeling if it was ever going to end. After 12 seasons, I’d hope we’d know if it was going to be the final season before we left the set.”
But she is also aware there are no guarantees and has begun “exploring what I want to do” after the series does come to an end.
“I love this slower lifestyle (in the show and on her ranch), but it can’t go on forever,” said Marshall, who turned 30 last year.
“I love what I do and I’ll be sad when it ends, but it’s also exciting to see what’s after Heartland for me.”

CANTLON: (FRI) ROCKET CRASHES IN HARTFORD
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack scored two early goals and utilized a stingy defense along with solid goaltending from Tom McCollum and upended the visiting Laval Rocket, 3-1, before 4,089 on Friday night at the XL Center. The Wolf Pack improved their record to 28-13-5-5 (66 points). Their home record elevates to 21-2-0-2 while their record when leading after two periods remains perfect at 20-0-1-2. The Pack now trails the Hershey Bears by two points who lost in overtime to the Binghamton Devils, 4-3. The Wolf Pack takes on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Saturday at the PPL Center and seeks to improve their woeful play and record on the road. Laval's record falls to 23-22-5-2 (53 points). They are in sixth place in the North Division and play in Providence against the Bruins on Sunday. Laval made the game close forcing the Wolf Pack to sweat it out in the third period as two-thirds of the scoring came from players who have hurt the Wolf Pack in the past. Phil Varone got a pass from defenseman, Gustav Olofsson, in the left-wing circle. His shot was perfectly kicked out by McCollum’s right pad. Unfortunately for the Pack, the rebound went right to Riley Barber who had position on Mason Geersten and was easily able to pot his 13th of the season into the net. The Wolf Pack’s Tim Gettinger scored his 12th goal of the season depositing the puck into an empty net with 14.6 seconds remaining sealing the Hartford victory. Laval came out with a bit more fire in the second frame and started taking the body. McCollum played a well-structured first period but had to do some diving and acrobatics to keep the Rocket off the scoreboard. He stopped Quinnipiac graduate, Matt Peca, at 6:18. Barber was denied from off the left-wing and leading Laval’s leading scorer, Philippe Hudon, from in the right-wing circle all-alone and Olofsson who was pinching off the left-point with just about 7:50 to go in the second period. “I felt really good tonight," remarked McCollum. "I think a lot of it really boils down to a total team effort. The guys in front of me did a really good job. They were blocking a lot of shots and giving me clean lanes to see pucks. Our forwards were doing a good job to create backpressure, which helped our defense." His secondary skillset as a good puck handler made a tremendous difference in the game’s outcome for head coach Kris Knoblauch. “He did well for us. His passing skills alleviate a lot of pressure. Making saves is really important, but not letting them establish a forecheck (equally important). I know our defense appreciate that.” The Wolf Pack grabbed a quick 2-0 lead early in the first period. The breakout was made possible by Mason Geersten who won a one-on-one battle along the right-wing boards getting the shot/pass to Kravtsov and the scoring sequence began. At 5:28, Vincent Loverde came across the Laval blueline and sent a short pass to Vitali Kravtsov, who did the same for Danny O’Regan in front of the net. O'Regan was all-alone and went backhand-to-forehand, slipping the puck past Cayden Primeau, the son of former Hartford Whaler, Keith Primeau, for his tenth of the season. “Our D played awesome tonight. Those small places like that made a difference whether up along the wall or from behind the net makes a big difference,” said O’Regan. The move in front of the net on the 6’4 Primeau came about as a result of a veteran's patience with the pay off being a goal. “Instinct just took over there. I was able to pull it around him and get in the harder work was done by everyone else,” remarked O’Regan while complimenting his teammates. O’Regan has quietly gone about being a stabilizing force down the middle. “Danny has been very important to us throughout the year, and that was maybe his best game," Knoblauch. stated. "I thought he won a lot of key faceoffs. The majority of his shifts were against their top line, which is pretty dangerous. So, not only was he providing offense, but he did a lot of defensive responsibilities. I thought his game was really good.” Then at 8:55, Nick Ebert skated backward to the blue line and took a pass from Matt Beleskey, who let a hard wrist shot that was blocked and the puck went right to Vinni Lettieri. Lettieri took a shot that was blocked by Laval defenseman, Josh Brook, and the came right back to him. Lettieri skated back to the blue line and sent a low wrist-shot through a Beleskey/Brook screen. Primeau never saw Lettieri’s shot, which would become his 22nd goal, go past him, “I don’t think we could have played any better in the first period. Laval got better as the game went along. We had to defend a lot more. It was a pretty good overall effort from everybody,” Knoblauch stated. Across the ice, a deeply frustrated Laval head coach, Joel Bouchard, whose Rocket squad is 0-3-1-0 in their last four, and 2-6-2-0 in their last 11, has had some tough times with recalls because of injuries in Montreal. The Laval lineup that has undergone major changes in the past two months. Bouchard and his staff are working to keep their players as upbeat as possible. “Every goal seems to weigh on us. We just sag down. We worked hard tonight, but right now we have no chemistry. We have three-or-four guys who were in the NHL most of the year and are adjusting here. Some of our veterans are not playing well. They're good guys. We just don’t have it right now. They're a good team (Hartford) and they got out quickly on us." LINES: O’Regan-Kravtsov-Fogarty Jones-Lettieri-Gettinger Newell-Beleskey-Elmer McBride-Dmowski-Ronning Hajek-Raddysh LoVerde-Geersten Crawley-Ebert SCRATCHES: Boo Nieves - (Upper-Body, Out Indefinitely) Nieves skated in practice the last few days for the first time in more than a week. Yegor Rykov - (Upper-Body) For the fourth time in the last five games is just about ready to return to action. Ryan Gropp - (Healthy) Gabriel Fontaine - (Shoulder-Surgery, Season-ending) NOTES: Pack defenseman Joey Keane was recalled to New York because Rangers rearguard, Tony DeAngelo, suffered an upper-body injury late in the Rangers 5-4 come from behind shootout victory. Keane did not make his NHL debut in Columbus as Marc Staal played despite having had the flu. Sadly, it was the last game for Minnesota head coach, Bruce “Gabby” Boudreau. He was relieved by the Minnesota Wild early Friday. The interim head coach is former Whaler, Dean Evason. Bouchard is an ex-Pack and Sound Tiger. Rocket, Hayden Verbeek, is the nephew of former Whaler great and Detroit assistant GM, Pat Verbeek, who was scratched. The AHL in a late afternoon press release announced the successor to retiring AHL President and CEO Dave Andrews on July 1st. Scott Howson, the current VP Hockey Operations, and Player Development in Edmonton. He has a relationship from their Canadian Maritime days when Andrews was the GM and Director of Hockey Operations in Cape Breton. Howson was his assistant GM and took over the reins when Andrews succeeded Jack Butterfield in 1994-95 as AHL President and CEO. According to a hockey executive who went to apply, they were told the process was being handled by Andrews himself. The fact Andrews knows Howson, he is with a Western NHL team and the league shift and focus is now more a Central and Western US-based league with the recent announcement of Las Vegas purchasing San Antonio and moving them to Nevada, the Palm Springs, CA expansion team that will begin play by the fall of 2022. WOLF PACK FAN JERSEY OF THE NIGHT: #19 Chris Mueller, #22 Tomas Kloucek and a #22 Thomas Pock whose name is really spelled Poeck. Barrett Hayton, the son of former New Haven Nighthawk, Brian Hayton, was recalled from his conditioning stint in Tucson by the parent Arizona Coyotes. Anton Sundin, the son of ex-Pack, Ronnie Sundin, heads from Hanhals IF (Sweden Division-1) to Karlskrona HK (Sweden-SHL) for the rest of the year. UCONN defeated the University of Maine in the first of two critical weekend games 3-2 handing the Black Bears their first home loss of the season. Benjamin Freeman, the Maine native scored the game-winner at of the third period. Carter Turnbull returned to the lineup with three primary assists and Freeman three points and a goal and assists from Sasha Payusov they combined for all eight UCONN points on the night. The two team splay again tomorrow at 7:30 pm (NESN). The Walter Brown Award is awarded to the top New England Division I collegiate player the award started in 1953. Of the 23 players submitted for consideration a few CT connections. The group includes two from Sacred Heart University (AHA) in Mike Lee (Hamden/Gunnery Prep) and Pioneer teammate Jason Cotton. Cotton’s brother, David of Boston College was nominated as well making them just the third brother combo nominated since the award’s inception. Billy and Bob Cleary and former Whaler Scott Fusco and Whaler draft pick Mark Fusco were the others all four attended Harvard. Jack Drury, the son of ex-Whaler, Ted Drury, and the nephew to current Wolf Pack GM, Chris Drury, who both grew up in Trumbull. Uncle Chris won the award twice while at BU. Five other players have won it twice including Ranger and ex-Pack Mike Mottau former New England and Hartford Whaler, Tim Sheehy, and former Ranger, Jimmy Vesey. Several former Wolf Pack players besides Mottau have won it. Matt Gilroy, Dov-Grumet Morris, Bobby Butler, and Ty Conklin. Rangers who have won it include current Blueshirt Adam Fox, Mottau and Brian Leetch (Cheshire). Several others with CT connections were awarded the honor, the late New England and Hartford Whaler, John Cunniff, Scott Harlow (New Haven Nighthawks) and John Curry (Taft Prep-Watertown). Keeping up with Gernander’s wonderful piece on their son, Micah, and being a part of the tradition of Greenway H.S. hockey in Minnesota. Read it HERE. Another superb piece on Brady Tomlak, son of ex-Whaler Mike Tomlak and his play the Air Force Academy. Read that HERE. Dean Bachiero (Southington/Salisbury Prep) commits to Brown University (ECACHL) for 2021-22 and the 6’3 forward is NHL Draft eligible this year. Ex-Pack, Jarko Immonen, signs a one-year extension with JYP Jyvaskyla (Finland-FEL). Ex-Pack, Marek Hrivik, is rumored to be moved from Leksands IF (Sweden-SHL) to Malmo IF (Sweden-SHL) next season. Club America 1, Toronto FC 1 | 2018 Concacaf Champions League Recap
Henry Romero-Reuters
April 10, 201811:32PM EDT
Despite losing a key player into injury in the opening moments of the match, Toronto FC got an early goal, then kept Club America off the scoreboard until second-half stoppage time, to earn a 1-1 draw at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night. The resulting 4-2 aggregate win means the Reds will face CD Guadalajara in the Concacaf Champions League finals later this month.
Drama came early in the first half — just five minutes in, Jozy Altidore went down and stayed down in a collision, and had to be subbed off several minutes later for Tosaint Ricketts. In the 12th minute, Sebastian Giovinco delivered a perfectly-weighted pass into the box, where Ricketts collected and sidefooted the ball to Jonathan Osorio for the opening goal.
Drama stuck around for the rest of the rain-drenched first half — a 19th-minute Eriq Zavaleta headed own-goal was taken off the board via a late offside flag, and the Aguilas continued pressuring to try to get an equalizer, forcing Alex Bono into five excellent first-half saves. America finished the half with 12 shots to TFC’s four and more than 60 percent possession.
The second half included just a few chances for the Reds to expand their lead. In the 50th minute, Giovinco fired a free kick in to force a tip save, and then on his subsequent corner kick, he nearly bent it around the near post for the game’s second goal. TFC was, however, content to sit back and absorb America’s attack for much of the final 45. Only a stoppage time penalty, awarded when Michael Bradley collided with Oribe Peralta in the box, allowed the home team to get on the board.
Three Things
The Big Picture: Toronto FC closed out a solid two-leg series against a traditional Liga MX powerhouse in a notoriously challenging stadium. They now get the chance to bring MLS glory in the series finale — a feat last attempted by Montreal Impact, TFC’s implacable rivals, against America in the ’14-’15 finals.
Moment of the Match:  The goal was a moment of as-good-as-it-gets TFC soccer, with a Canadian connection, enabled by Giovinco’s vision, making the Aguilas’ mountain that much harder to climb.
Man of the Match: Bono faced a barrage of shots — 29, to be exact — and was unshakable throughout the match, credited with six saves, and even weathering an end-of-first-half elbow to the head on one of those saves.
Goals
12′ – TOR – Jonathan Osorio
90′ + 2 – CA – Andres Uribe (PK)

We’re big fans of spring in Denmark: b-i-g fans. Blossom-filled days when the sun starts to come out and the evenings are getting longer (finally!). New Post has been published on https://nofspodcast.com/toronto-after-dark-award-winners-2017/
Toronto After Dark Film Festival Award Winners Announced
Wrapping up it’s 12th annual film festival, Toronto After Dark have announced this year’s winners. Unlike most festivals, the jury for Toronto After Dark is the audience. Voting on categories from Best Film to Best Kill, the awards reflect exactly how fans react to the films presented. Not to say that most awards are presented by stodgy panels commenting more on the “state of film” than the thrill of exciting flicks, but who better to tell you what movie is worth than the viewing public? And for that reason, you might find some surprising exclusions on the lists. We were shocked to see such a low turnout for My Friend Dahmer and Lowlife but at the same time, impressed with the strength of films like The Endless.
From Toronto After Dark:
Trench 11, the gritty World War One set horror thriller directed by Leo Scherman took Top Prize, the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film Gold plus three other Specialty Awards including Best Horror and Scariest Film. Best Feature Film Silver went to Mayhem, Joe Lynch’s virus outbreak horror comedy which also took home three additional awards including Best Hero for Steven Yeun’s (The Walking Dead) lead character. The Endless , the latest sci-fi mystery from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead captured Best Feature Film Bronze as well as six additional category awards including Best Director, Screenplay and Most Original Film.
Additional Major Winners in the Specialty Categories included Victor Crowley which won four awards including Best Kill, The Villianess which won three awards including Best Action, Tragedy Girls which won three awards including Best Comedy and Beyond Skyline which won two awards including Best Sci-Fi.

Lost Lands Music Festival: Excision Throws His Own Festival
Excision’s very own music festival, Lost Lands Music Festival, in Ohio at Legend Valley and rBeatzRadio has press passes! This means you can follow rBeatz on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and the App (App Store and Google Play) for live updates throughout this weekend starting Friday, September 29th and ending Sunday, October 1st.
The festival is set to feature some of Dubstep’s most heavy hitters, including bringing back Excision’s band, Destroid, that features Downlink & KJ Sawka of Pendulum. Other headliners of the festival include Zeds Dead, Snails, Rezz, 12th Planet, Illenium, Ghastly, Slander, Herobust, Kill The Noise, and many more hard hitting bass maestros. There will of course be a B2B set between Excision and Datsik that I had the chance to witness in Denver at Global Dance Festival.  Excited to hear the heavy bass improve of whatever these two bass superstars feel like playing.
Watch the promo video below to get amped up for this content that I’m about to bring to you.
youtube
Lost Lands will have two stages, and the theme of the weekend will be taking it back to the stone age, where dinosaurs roamed the planet. The Prehistoric Paradox is the main stage, and the Cave of Souls will be more for upcoming artists bringing the heat, looking to impress and make it to the main stage. Check out the full lineup below.
PK Sounds has provided the festival with 750,000 wats of sound…yum.
Below, I’ve featured a special mix from the rBeatz resident DJ, BRB, who will be joining me on my adventure back in time. The mix contains artists playing at Lost Lands this year. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see the tracklist of the mix. Below the mix is the lineup I plan on attending with a bit about each act. Download the Lost Lands App to follow the schedule.
  Day 1: Friday, September 29th
Ghost Gardens
Ghost Gardens are the flowers that bloom in abandoned spaces, so this three man band is an electronic and acoustic stage performance.
youtube
AFK
His influences include Whiskey, Vodka, Chicken, Skittles, and Xbox.
LAXX
The Oxford, London native takes elements from US hip-hop and UK underground music scenes to make dance floors shake and parents feel uncomfortable.
Figure B2B Midnight Tyrannosaurus
Figure gets an overwhelming amount of messages on Soundcloud, so he might not get back to you if you message him there.
Perfect name for the theme of the festival, Midnight Tyrannosaurus has been making screechy robot fun noises on FL Studios since July 2011.
Herobust
Three words…Atlanta, Electronic, and Trap.
Ghastly
He’s a ghost, who is also good with handling snakes and playing with your emotions through a variety of sounds.
Kill The Noise
Kill The Noise has been around – a bass music icon. He was born out of an era where Ridley Scott imagined utopian futures on the silver screen, and artists like NIN and Aphex Twin rocked MTV.
Seven Lions
The special guest for this evening. I wonder what instruments he’ll bring out?
Excision
The man of the 72 hours! A lot of these remixes were made by aliens performing at the festival this weekend.
Dieselboy
He takes no prisoners, so make sure you stretch before this set.
Crizzly
He’s a crazy grizzly bear. Really adding fire to the flames.
12th Planet
He was dubbed “Los Angeles dubstep god” by Rolling Stone.
Day 2: Saturday, September 30th
KJ Sawka Ableton Workshop
Part of Destroid. I think it will be cool to watch him produce, then play a set.
JPhelpz
He loves music and making music. He’s specified the genre leans towards a heavier bass than your average Neil Young song.
Krimer
He works 7 days a week. It’s called the grind. I assume he sleeps from time to time, but his sounds are out of this world, so he might not need sleep.
KJ Sawka
I ALREADY WENT OVER HIM!!!
Spag Heddy
He’s from Spain and plays tomato bass. I think he likes pasta a lot – really hoping tomato sauce comes out of his pyro.
Funtcase
A prestigious award winner winning the runner up dickhead award, worst music award 2001, 3rd biggest wasteman in dubstep 2056. With so many accolades, how will he handle the spotlight?
Slander
They’ve had releases on OWSLA, Mad Decent, and Interscope…YAWN!!
Snails
Vomitstep in the house. Watch out for slime.
Black Tiger Sex Machine
They have a church and it’s called Black Tiger Sex Machine. I’m open-minded, so I’ll give their religion a try.
Destroid
They’re back – Excision (production and midi-guitars), Downlink (production and midi-guitars), and Pendulum drummer KJ Sawka that is. Sometimes they also bring in Space Laces and Ajapai.
Zeds Dead
Whose motorcycle is this? It’s a chopper, baby. Whose chopper is this? It’s Zed’s. Whose Zed? Zed’s dead baby, Zed’s dead.
Trollphace
He’s a guy with a beard who has a bong. He also makes evil bass music.
Protohype
He’s the leader of the #puppycrew
Day 3: Sunday, October 1st
RSK
RSK was born in Houston Texas, and he was raised in Dubai and Lebanon.
ill.Gates Ableton Workshop
ill.GATES is a bass droppin’, educatin’, oscillator modulatin’ space genius from the future. Funny because this festival takes place in the past.
ill.Gates
AGAIN! Cool to see a guy teach production then go out and crush a set.
Excision
AGAIN!!
Dion Timmer
He discovered dubstep at the age of 10 and never looked back. Too early for dubstep if you ask me.
Phiso
Canadian producer who makes loud noises, and thankfully enough people have listened.
PhaseOne
Metal infused Dubstep. That hurts just typing that out.
Dubloadz
Savage Wonk.
Rezz
She’s definitely not human. She’s from Neptune.
Illenium
There are melodic bass producers, and then there is Nick Miller. He recently released his new album, Awake.
Excision B2B Datsik
Excision is performing like 6 times.
Boogie T
Boogie with Boogie T for the last set. I will be toast by this set.

I try my hardest to get to Toronto every summer and sometimes I go twice. 2016 I went twice once in March and the other in July, but we will get to the July story in another post.
Back in March 2016 I decided just a few days before March 12th to go to Toronto for the Canadian Screen Awards Fan Zone. Normally I travel from home but during this time I was away at school and went to Toronto from there. The only train from where I was to Toronto left around 6 am. It was different getting up at 4 am rather than 7 for my usual time.
I arrived early morning and met up with 2 of my friends at union station and headed over to the eaton centre for the event. We were in the first 100 people pretty close to the front of the line. As we were waiting we got interviewed about who we were most excited to see and of course we all said the cast of degrassi.
First I went over and talked to Ana and Ricardo. I told them how I traveled 4 hours that morning just to see them and they were shocked. I also told Ana I was wearing one of her lipsticks which I love the colour. We took group shot and solo selfies. Ana is so good at taking selfies. We chatted about the show and how we liked Zoemund.
Next we went over to see Jordan who played Adam. She was out of the area for the moment so in the mean time I met Justin Kelly and Shailyn Pierre-Dixon from between. Jordan going to the event was one of the main reasons I decided last minute to go. When she came back I told her about my traveling as well and she was so impressed. We chatted and one of my friends was even in her snap story. She was so sweet and I was so happy I got to meet her.
After we met the actors we shopped a bit then ate since the only train back was at 5 that night. It was such a fun day and I’m so glad I went.
