In reality, he's lucky to have such good acting skills that help him cover up the disdain he has for his life. He only wishes he could use his skills properly.

Patton Whitelock's always there to lend a helping hand, no matter who you are. If you need a favor or just need someone to talk to, go to him. In reality, he's been taught from a young age that kindness should be held above all else. No one suspects that he took it the wrong way.

Logan Montgomery is the smartest boy in the Senior class. He's stern, and most people are too intimidated to speak to him. In reality, he despises most all of his fellow students. He sticks to his studies and doesn't stray, for fear of being stuck in his father's shadow his whole life.

The four boys were in Roman's room; Virgil sprawled across the bed lazily, Patton and Logan observing Roman's pet turtle, and Roman taking out the Cress plants and setting them on the window sill by his desk.

"soooooooo adorable!!" Patton yelped. he was naturally very enthusiastic, but seemed to be putting a little extra umph into it now.

Logan smiled over at him. "Quite. This is a Trachemys Scripta Elegans, also known as the red-eared pond slider. These are among the most common species of pet turtles. Although, despite their prevalence, they are indeed 'adorable.'" Upon finishing his analysis, Logan looked back to Patton, who had been watching intently as Logan explained. Patton felt a light blush rise to his cheeks, looking away from Logan.

"H-how do you know so much about turtles?" Patton said quietly.

"Well, when I was young, I really wanted a pet turtle. My mother, well, she supported it, but my dad... well, they came to a compromise, that if I did my research and took care of it on my own, that I could have a pet turtle."

"...And? Did you end up getting one?" Patton asked, his face showing plainly how emotionally invested in this story he'd become.

"Yes. His name was Star, I had him for a total of two years and three months." Logan said shortly.

"Why only two years? What happened?" Patton said. "I thought turtles lived for a long time?"

"They do, but Star was already 46. I got him from a rescue center; he had been left in an aquarium on the side of the road. I knew before committing to keeping him that he wouldn't last too much longer." Logan reminisced, but only for a moment. "Anyway, that was years ago." He said shortly, turning away from Patton.

Just at that moment, Roman turned around and cleared his throat. "If I could have everyone's undivided attention," he side-eyed Virgil aggressively, who just smirked and seemed to relax more into Roman's bed. "ugh, typical. will you please come and join the conversation, Hot Topic?" he pressed.

"Aww, you think I'm hot." Virgil teased back as he sat up. Roman's eyes went wide, his cheeks darkening. But before Virgil could notice, Patton diverted the conversation.

"What's the plan, Roman? Logan?" Patton looked between the two of them, and they looked at each other. They both went to speak at the same time, interrupting each other. While Roman chuckled at the situation, Logan took the opportunity to speak first.

"Well, I assume that you don't have any fertilizer Roman, so we'll-"

"Actually, I had my dad pick some up on his way home from work! He bought two very different brands- one mainstream and one... liberal. I'll go grab those, and some plant pots." Roman interjected, and then pranced off out of his room to collect said items, leaving the three others alone in the room.

Immediately, Virgil got up from the bed, and bent down to check under the bed, rummaging around.

"What are you doing, Virgil?" Logan asked, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose again.

"Yeah, isn't that including on Roman's privacy?" Patton said, sounding a bit concerned.

"I believe the word you mean to use is 'intruding,' Patton, and the correct wording would be 'intruding upon,'" Logan corrected.

"Oh, sorry, 'intruding upon.' Thanks, Lo!" Patton said, smiling brightly. Logan felt his cheeks heat up, and smiled softly back to him.

"Well, if you must know," Virgil grunted, getting up from his crouching position on the floor and moving to examine Roman's bedside table, "I'm looking for his stash."

Logan and Patton shared a confused look. "what do you mean 'his stash?'" Patton asked, somehow looking more confused.

Virgil was now making his way into Roman's closet. "Whatever that means for Roman, I guess. the stuff he hides from his parents. Drugs, porn, you know. something juicy." Virgil clarified. Patton winced at the p word.

"Virgil! Not only is that - intruding upon - his privacy, but that's downright disrespectful! you stop that right now!" As Patton finished speaking, Virgil emerged from the closet empty handed.

"Well, either way, I just checked all the classic spots. nothing to write home about. Guess I'll have to up my searching game for next week." He teased Patton, who whimpered. Virgil plopped back onto the bed, and Logan was about to ask why Virgil would need to write a letter to his parents when he'd be returning home far before a letter would arrive. But, his opening mouth was cut off, as Roman returned with two small flat pots, both already consisting of two different looking types of fertilizer.

"It's amazing, the differences between these," Roman said, presenting the pots to his teammates. Patton leaned in, and Roman made a good point. One pot had grayer dirt, and much fewer flecks of minerals and nutrients, and the other looked rich with life - Patton half expected a worm to emerge from it.

Logan walked over to the sill where Roman had put the plants, setting them down on the empty section of the desk. Roman brought over the pots, and Logan pulled the Garden Cress plants out of their temporary plastic pots, placing them gently in their respective pots. While he did this, Roman stepped behind him and put his arms around Logan's waist, and growled lightly into his ear. Virgil scowled in their general direction, and Patton's face fell.

Through his blush, Logan cleared his throat. "Roman, that is inappropriate behavior, and frankly I'm not comfortable with it. Our relationship is currently strictly professional." His voice was a little unsteady and cracked once, but he kept himself composed for the most part.

Roman considered continuing to tease him, but decided to take a nobler, grander route. "Fine," He began, releasing Logan from their intimate embrace, "I'll leave you be today, but on one condition. Logan Montgomery, will you go on a date with me?"

Everyone in the room was shocked into silence, even Roman. He was surprised at his own confidence, but he just rolled with it, as he usually did. Virgil's scowl just worsened, and he quietly said he had to use the restroom, leaving with hardly a sound. Patton just looked horrified, all the color having drained from his face. But no one was looking at him.

Logan turned around slowly, looking Roman in the eyes, half expecting him to have some silly grin on his face and say "haha, just kidding! Man, I really had you there!" or something of the like. But Roman just returned his gaze confidently, a small smile tracing his face.

"...You're serious?" Logan said after a long moment. Patton was praying that he wasn't.

"deadly," Said Roman, his smile widening slightly.

Logan thought for a long moment. "...w-well, I'm not sure that's appropriate, consid-"

"Come on, just one date. That's all." Roman pleaded.

"And what of your reputation? Won't people be jealous? What if someone does someth-"

"I promise, I'll keep my... fans... from messing with you, if that's your biggest worry. Please, please please?" Roman pressed.

"...A-and I'm not sure my parents would approve. They've never allowed me to be involved with anyone romantically before, so-"

"I'm sure they'll be more understanding this time around! Or, better yet, just don't tell them!" Roman countered. He had a glint of determination in his eyes, and Logan knew he wasn't going to back down. He spent a long moment trying to think of some conflicting factor, but he couldn't come up with a thing. He also considered simply telling him he wasn't interested, but that would be a lie. Despite his better nature, Roman did capture his attention.

And so, with a somewhat defeated tone, Logan sighed and pushed his glasses up again. "Fine. One date. But that is all. I wouldn't plan on-" Logan tried to be stern, but Roman was pumping his fists in the air excitedly.

Roman just punched the air a few more times, and then fell back on his bed with a plop.

Patton was sitting on the edge of the bed, fiddling with the ring on his right middle finger. Don't let it show.

He turned to address Roman, a smile gracing his face that few people would know was forced. "Congratulations on your first date, Roman! You guys make an adorable couple. I wish you a successful relationship!" He said.

Roman sat up and eyed him. "Really? I mean, from the way you and Logan were talking, I would've guessed you have a crush on-"

"Nope!" Patton said shortly, smiling more intensely. "I like Logan a lot as a friend, but I'm so glad he has you now! Well, hopefully. We'll see after your first date! What do you think, will he want to go on another one?" Patton waggled his eyebrows.

Roman delved back into his self-centered world once again, considering Patton's query. "Well, I certainly hope so. I'm quite... attracted to Logan, so hopefully we connect on an emotional and mental level as well. If I play my cards right, I think he'll fall for me." Roman idly speculated, smiling at Patton.

"I'm sure! I mean, you are such a charmer, from what I've seen. I-I mean no disrespect! I don't mean like that. I mean you have an inmate skill for attracting people! I think you have a shot." As Patton finished, Logan returned with clean hands and a spray bottle, walking over to the plants in the sill.

"Once again Patton, the word you mean to use is 'innate.' Don't worry, you'll get there." Logan assured, spritzing each plant exactly five times. "Roman, since you'll be the primary parent of these plants, i beg you, please don't falter in consistently watering them. five spritzes each, every day, preferably when you get home from school. If you don't have confidence in your commitment to this, as I don't, I suggest setting a reminder on your phone." Logan turned to Roman, watching expectantly for him to pull out his phone.

"Oh calm down, calculator watch. I have complete 'confidence in my commitment,' thank you very much," Roman said, earning a grimace from Logan, who then turned away and pulled out his own phone. Once Logan's attention was diverted, Roman did in fact pull out his phone and set a reminder for watering the cress.

Just as he was slipping his phone back into his pocket, Roman felt it buzz. "There's my address. Now, I'm going to call my parental units. I must be getting home, as I have work to do. For now, none of you should worry about the report itself, I'll be writing up a draft tonight and sharing it with each of you. Excuse me." And with that, Logan left the room once again to call his father, leaving Roman and Patton in silence.

Suddenly, Roman thought of something. "Hey, where's Virgil? Count Woe-laf may not be the best company, but it seems he's been absent for an excessive amount of time."

Before I start writing - I go in with the perspective that each new theory is on its own. I don’t require the information from other posts/ideas unless explicitly stated in the new theory.

So for this theory, I may refer to other theories I have already written, I may explain them here in a new context, and change my thoughts on them. I even have different paths available for the direction SJM can go. I’m pretty open to everything being a possibility until it is dis-proven in Canon. I paraphrased a fair bit. But if you know TOG well i’m sure you will remember the parts I’m talking about, and if possible I have put in brackets what book said what. CONTAINS REFERENCES TO BOTH TOG AND ACOTAR BOOKS. Also warning - I don't want to accidentally spoil anyone if I actually end up being right about anything, so maybe don’t read this until after KoA. haha. Well you can. So to start I’m going to propose that the Worlds of Acotar and Prythian are connected.

That they are linked. How? They are not the “same world” but neither are they different. A year ago I wrote a post called “Erilea” (here). Through discourse and discussion with other people in the fandom on this post, we came up with some cool ideas on why Prythian and Erilea look similar in terms of geography.

Ice age - Change in the Sea Levels. Making Erilea and Prythian the same world at different times. Either Prythian came first or Erilea. Either was an option.

Parallel worlds - multi-world theory, They are the same place with small differences in their history that changed the make up of those worlds (a sliders reference). These worlds can be connected to each other through a Wyrdgate or wormhole.

But now I have a third theory. A theory about Why Prythian looks a lot like Erilea. And it’s a little Fantastical and I love it. I will be happy if this is not the case too - but it’s always nice to try and solve a puzzle. I believe if the worlds are linked we will find out in Kingdom of Ash. So BEWARE : IF MY THEORY IS RIGHT THEN THERE MAY BE KOA SPOILERS. Of course - i’m just a fan of these books who loves theory - so it’s possible I just have an overactive imagination as well. :D

But First I need to take a step back.

I need to look at how the Universe for these books is made. (I have written 4000 words in a separate document and its too complicated with lots of open ends and possibilities so I’m trying to simplify here and provide the details that make the most sense. - warning I failed to make it shorter, but at least its in bullet points).

The origins of the Throne of Glass Universe.

There are gods. (all books reference at least one)

Aelin and co. are in the “third movement” of an unfinished game between these gods. (QOS) The gods guide people to make certain decisions and take certain actions. (EOS)

The Gods do not have physical form but are trapped - At this point in the story anyway. (EOS)

There are mortals in the story - fae, humans, shapeshifters, people who have a vested interest in the material world in which they live. (all books)

There is the idea that the worshiped gods change over time - or who is worshiped changes over time. There are 36 gods in the Southern Continent (TOD) and the Khaganate says that they never eradicate old gods but rather assimilate them into their own religion.

Could this mean that we have three sets of 12? 12 Gods. Perhaps the same 12 gods at each new re-incarnation (since we have three movements in the unfinished game) or a new scion or mortal to speak through for each of these gods.

But we know that there are 9 on the Pantheon at Mistward (HOF) - So what happened to the other three gods?

In the “lock” / “witchmirror” Elena is looked over at the obsidian passes by 12 Gods and Goddesses! I think Maeve has been re-writing some history in Wendyln, or not all 12 are worshiped. Time forgets those that aren't seen as important. Which is true of our own histories. The Greek Olympians changed over time and Dionysus was seen more in later pantheon’s for example.

Creation of the universe

Neoplatonism is the idea that the universe is made from an initial thought - The One. There is void and nothing and then necessity/ fate/ the One comes into being. From this point the universe expands out. Creating more and more. Beings that make up essence and soul - I like to think of them as primordial gods/goddesses, life and death gods. Then there is a creator from this - someone who is used as a tool by necessity to craft creation, a physical artisan. Do not confuse the creator with God. The creator is merely an artisan, with the skills and the tools needed to do the work of the necessity. And then more specific Gods form from this.

Later neoplatonic philosophers, especially Iamblichus, added hundreds of intermediate beings such as gods, angels, demons, and other beings as mediators between the One and humanity. The neoplatonist gods are omni-perfect beings and do not display the usual amoral behaviour associated with their representations in the myths.

The One: God, The Good. Transcendent and ineffable.

The Hypercosmic Gods: those that make Essence, Life, and Soul

The Demiurge: the Creator

The Cosmic Gods: those who make Being, Nature, and Matter—including the gods known to us from classical religion. ))

So What does this mean? I think that this means that Erilea was created by a artisan or creator, and since then there has been a war going on between the “cosmic gods” - So the god of Storms, The goddess of Light, the god of Wild things. These gods had a kind of civil war - either with themselves, or with higher beings. I am ever hopeful that when SJM releases the book “The world of throne of glass” that it shall have all the mythology and story behind how this works because it is complicated to decipher. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to nail down these influences in her books (jewish bible/ christian bible/greek myth/welsh myth/slavic myth - seriously, i’m going crazy here).

Thanks to the Bone Carver (acowar) we know that there are multiple worlds and that his world turned to dust a long time ago and he cannot return (this might be Erilea, it might not). The Celestial Hierarchy idea above can have more than one creator, the cycle can continue over and over again as long as necessity is guiding something to happen. I believe the reason Prythian is so diverse in its populations is because it’s a combination of things to do with its creation. But that's for me to explain a little further along (I was going to come back to this point - but it’s already super long, and I don't want to head down another path - basically, more than one world, feeding into tartarus = lots of different beings from multiple worlds, and all the worlds could now be dust. Like Angels - aka Amren)

Multiple planes of existence

Another Idea that has been floating around is the idea of multiple planes of existence. Kind of like a Olympus / Earth / The Underworld / Tartarus type of scenario if I use greek myth as an example. There are these realms or planes of existence that exist independently of each other but you are able to access them via certain avenues - like dying, becoming a god, secret passageways, ascending Olympus. This one is pretty cool. Because it means that creatures who find their way into Erilea (think Wyverns through the ferrian gap, Valg creatures in Morath and that monster/serpent under the lake/Mountain in Heir of fire.) They either accidentally or on purpose find their way into Erilea through the darkest places in the world. Dark Tunnels. Gaps in the fabric of Creation. Similar to how it was thought humans could travel to the underworld if they knew how - and still be living. Like Orpheus (ovid’s metamorphosis) traveling to the underworld through a dark tunnel to get back his wife Eurydice. Or Hercules for his various tasks.

The idea of the underworld being a physical place isn’t uncommon. We also get certain days in TOG where the absence of light means that the spirit world is closer to Erilea. Samhain is one such day, and the day of a solar eclipse also has Mort talking in a voice that is not his own or Elena’s. So who’s is it? with the veil between worlds so thin? There are many possibilities - maybe it is even necessity itself. So it is possible that Prythian is a “Underworld”. In fact with the quote “everything tastes better above the wall”- ACOMAF. I would even say that the seven courts of Prythian could be the Elysian fields. I feel like this idea isn’t new, or at least it has been rattling around in my head for a long time so I feel like I’ve heard it before. The Prison in Acotar has always appeared as Tartarus to me. A place deep deep under the earth, even deeper than the underworld, but the entry is in the underworld. This place is a prison to the worst kind of creatures. The creatures that go against the natural order. Tartarus (wiki link for those wanting more) is believed to be the abyss, the darkest place. I believe Tartarus and “The Prison” are the same. Interestingly enough Tartarus is said to be a god in its own right often dwelling in Tartarus. The third primordial Deity, preceding Eros (love/desire) That is why Feyre and the others are to be scared of those that dwell there. It is even said that “the watchers” - fallen Angels were imprisoned in Tartarus, and with Amren’s “Angel-ness” coming to light in ACOWAR and the fact we know that she escaped the Prison, makes me even more keen to think that the prison is in actuality Tartarus, and therefore Prythian - the underworld. OK So all that is the background I have tried to decipher - for a very very very long time. I have a lot of other theories and ways things might interconnect but I’m just going to leave that for now because - I don't want to get confused. So My next step is Kingdom of Ash and what I think might happen.

What does this mean for KoA?

I suspect that we have an amalgamation of ideas here and that The void and land of cold, ice and Darkness where the Valg come from is actually Prythian (simply known as the Abyss containing Tartarus before Kingdom of Ash’s events.) and Prythian gets a makeover thanks to Aelin. Prythian exists but not as we know it, before the events of Kingdom of Ash. So not only are Prythian and Erilea not the same world but they also do not occur at the same time.

To be honest - we can get a split here as well.

Forging of the Lock.

So how is Kingdom of Ash going to tell me about the creation of Prythian? Well there is a mural in ACOTAR that Feyre finds and describes for us - Chapter 13 of ACOTAR. Here are some quotes from that:

“It told a story with the way the colours and shapes and light flowed, the way the tone shifted across the mural. The story of… Prythian.”

“It began with a Cauldron.”

“A mighty black Cauldron held by glowing, slender female hands in a starry, endless night.

Those hands tipped it over, golden sparkling liquid poured out over the lip. No - not sparkling, but … effervescent with small symbols, perhaps of some ancient faerie language. Whatever was written there whatever it was, the contents of the cauldron were dumped into the void below, pooling on the earth to form our world …” “The map spanned the entirety of our world - not just the land on which we stood, but also the seas and larger continents beyond. Each territory was marked and coloured, some with intricate, ornate depictions of the beings who had once ruled over lands that now belonged to the humans. All of it, i remembered with a shudder, all of the world had once been theirs - at least as far as they believed, crafted for them by the bearer of the cauldron. There were no mention of humans - no sign of us here. I supposed we’d been as low as pigs to them.”

“In the centre of the land, as if it were the core around which everything else had spread, or perhaps the place where the cauldrons liquid had first touched. Was a small, snowy mountain range. From it arose a mammoth, solitary peak. Bald of snow, bald of life - as if the elements refused to touch it. There was no more clues about what it might be; nothing to indicate its importance, and I supposed that the viewers were already supposed to know. This was not a mural for human eyes” - acotar.

A lot of people (myself included) have thought that this mural was the key to linking the worlds. And I think this is the Key to what is going to happen in Kingdom of Ash. Aelin is the creator - the artisan - the wielder of the cauldron. There are two ways/reasons I can see this happening.

Aelin Erupts and has managed to destroy the “darkness” in Erilea, through the creation of the Lock But Light creates darkness simply by being present. Casting a shadow, and because of this if your remove one then you must also remove the other - like calls to like, made and unmade, a never ending cycle. Rules of balance in the universe etc. She has “unmade” something if she destroys all the Darkness in the world. If this happens, and light is removed then Erilea will cease to exist (think about acowar - near the end with some Cauldron destroying the world type stuff ;) Feyre(light) and Rhys(darkness) work together to save creation). And Aelin either by accident or not - will need to find a solution to this destruction, a solution to “unmaking” something, to the end of the world as they know it. So she creates prythian to evacuate to, to save the people she can. The void exists on the other side of the Wyrd gate and she uses this as a place to “create” prythian.

OR The battle is over and Aelin needs to send back all the monstrosities into the void through the Wyrd Gate. She doesn't try to destroy them - only contain them. But as their land has nothing but Darkness, Ice and wind, Aelin needs to create a place for the creatures to live. Not all who have Valg in them are evil - the witches being the perfect example. A cross-breed of darkness and light (Fae and Valg). To banish ALL Valg - surely the witches would need to be vanished too? That seems like a pretty awful alliance, if you help out the saviour and then they banish you!

Note that this does not mean ERILEA and PRYTHIAN are the same - simply that you might be able to reach one through a Wyrd gate if you wanted to. So with those two worrying thoughts. How does she do it?

We know you cannot UNMAKE something that is MADE. And like calls to like, as is said in ACOTAR. Essentially - you cannot have good without evil or light without Darkness. So Aelin needs to find a way to contain and not destroy, because she doesn't want to destroy the entirety of creation.

Now, Aelin is the first to raise her hand for a wild plan that saves the day - and the gods have said that they will take the dark king with them (EOS) when they are returned home from the eternity stuck in an astral plane. But Aelin has to give up her mortality to do that - she has to give up Rowan - Her life - Her future. Aelin ain't going to do that. She hates being told what to do, if she can find a way out - she will.

Aelin needs to make sure the natural order is restored. So using the Acotar mural as reference - She forges a Cauldron using her powers from Mala Firebringer acting as the forge, using iron from the ironteeth witches as they evolve and change.

The last Crochan queen (Manon) melts the iron inside her as she yields, giving all the iron to the cauldron. Manon is the only being who has inside her - The LIGHT and the DARK. She is an IRONTEETH witch and a CROCHAN witch. She is both good and Evil. She is the Bridge between Aelin (the light) and Dorian (the darkness).

Iron also contains magic in Erilea, it prevents it from working. The iron doors and iron coffin, stifle magic, so the iron of the cauldron would act to ground the magic, to bind it to the mortal world. The raw magic from the realm of darkness (Dorian) combines with that of the realm of light (Aelin). Together the three of them create a cauldron to hold the wyrd keys and fill it full of glittering liquid that is the liquid of creation. And a female with Slender pale arms becomes the Creator of Prythian (I’m assuming it's Aelin because she is the “saviour”, making the sacrifice and is also “nameless in my price” and no-one remembers the creator’s name in Prythian).

Then with the cauldron, Aelin creates Prythian.

She either goes through the gate and pours the liquid (or pours the liquid through the gate) out of the cauldron and into the darkness of the void, landing on the top of a sacred mountain.

Tartarus (underworld) is already there, drifting in the abyss, but she makes the Elysian fields - she makes the underworld, she makes the promised land, Prythian.

From the Darkness Aelin creates a new land in the image of her home land.

In an image or Erilea.

Her thoughts - her words become the essence of creation.

Aelin hasn’t traveled far, but the places she has been to she pours forth from herself into this new place. Using the magic of the cauldron to shape creation - she remakes what has been made before. She pours Xandria and the Desert (Hybern), a place she only reached by sea, now an isolated island. She pours the Omega and her sacred forest (Oakwald), she pours in the mountain ranges, and the coast in s familiar shape, she includes Wendlyn and the sights she saw there. She pours her heart and soul forth as she includes Terrasen, the library of Orynth and the mountain home from which those gods and goddesses once looked over Erilea, the Staghorn mountains in the distance (night court). And the constellation that always guides her home - the Stag of the North, to look over the people and guide them. Always looking over Terrasen and now their new home.

She knows she can’t replicate everything as she hasn't seen the entirety of the world.

But she tries her best.

She makes Prythian as best she can.

A reflection of the World she knows - a reflection of Erilea.

Then she finds ways to trap and bind Maeve and Erawan (Death Gods - Styrga and Koschei) who she must send there too.

Because Aelin won’t make a deal with the gods, she is forging her own path.

Ensuring her own survival.

She binds the primordial gods to a location so they may not harm the inhabitants. So they may not repeat what they did in Erilea.

Here there is a split - Either point 1 or point 2 from above (depending on whether the entire world is turning to ash - or she is just banishing the valg).

(Point 1 - Erilea turned to ash)

She takes a part of the death god’s essence back into the cauldron, diminishing their power.

As many as possible are sent through the gate to save them.

She Banishes Maeve to a forest, to be watched by the little folk who choose to guard her.

She banishes Erawan to a Lake/”silver” on the Continent.

When it is over - she has drained all her magic.

All the godly essence given to her from Mala is gone.

The gods are gone. Released from their eternal torment (if Erilea is destroyed).

Dorian has used all his raw magic and Manon has used all the power her body once contained. Manon no longer has any iron and is a true Crochan witch, no ironteeth remaining.

They open the gate to all who wish to step through, to a new world, made in the image of the first. As their own world turns to dust. They cross over into Prythian on the Sacred Mountain where the Cauldron’s glittering liquid first touched the land.

(Point 2 - Banishing valg)

She takes a part of the death god’s essence back into the cauldron, diminishing their power.

As many as possible are sent through the gate.

She Banishes Maeve to a forest, to be watched by the little folk who choose to guard her.

She banishes Erawan to a Lake/silver on the Continent.

When it is over - she has drained all her magic.

Aelin can choose to trap the gods in Tartarus or the Prison forever - a kind of payback.

They go back to their kingdoms and castles and try to live in a world without Valg.

They put the Cauldron back in the Abyss, never to be used again. The wyrd keys hidden inside it’s feet.

Then we have the story of ACOTAR - A story set in this new world. With the gods having vanished or have been “redistributed” throughout creation. Re-emerged into new people, new bloodlines, getting a second chance.

If point 1 comes to pass then we get our happy endings. Fresh starts made by the saviours. The living beings are what matter, not the land itself. And Erilea has long ago turned to dust and the survivors are in Prythian - living their happily ever afters and facing new challenges. Their bloodlines continuing through generations. Feyre Archeron having the blood of that fae warrior who saved all - long ago, imbued with light. Joins with the darkness (Rhysand) to save Prythian (in ACOWAR). A darkness that soothes, and isn’t evil. Creating a perfect balance of light and dark in Prythian. A fresh start.

“There are different kinds of darkness,” Rhys said. I kept my eyes shut. “There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful.” I pictured each. “There is the darkness of lovers, and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, needs it to be. It is not wholly bad or good.” ACOMAF.

The Acheron Line is human I hear your say - Is that because Aelin gave up her immortality to live? Her power transferred to the cauldron and as a gift she was able to live a mortal life? I could speculate on who is descendant from who, but I’m not going to do that here. I’m going to wait and see if this theory has any validity once Kingdom of Ash comes out. If not. That’s fine, I look forward to being surprised. Either way I am going to love this book.

So why would SJM say the worlds aren't linked? Because she doesn't want to give away the ending for Kingdom of Ash. She doesn't want to spoil us! And here I am doing my digging and making my stories. (by the way if I’m wrong - That's cool, I love to be surprised! I think this would make an amazing story though - anyone want to write an AU? :P haha).

If Point 2 comes to pass, then there is a lot of rebuilding. Prythian can still be created by Aelin, but what happens to our Favorites is still up in the air. And some things - like Feyre’s ancestry don’t appear to make much sense, when it is implied that she came from the “ancient fae warrior[s]” blood line. Maybe some people get stuck in Prythian but not all, and Erilea doesn't turn to ash. That’s cool. Not sure how the book will finish happily ever after though. (not that it needs to). Will we get split perspective of the two sides of the Wyrd gate or just loose contact with those not in Erilea anymore?

The problem with me is this - I get more questions than answers... it happens when I think up a theory.

Great - This is cool. But what about this and this? questions come unasked to the forefront and I pull out my hair.

For example - What about what the Stygian spiders and Brannon said in Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms? Both are secondary sources of information. Stories. And while I think each has an element of truth, they are flawed as they come from a person/creature that is mortal. It is important to note that in neoplatonism there are different tiers of beings. Brannon, The stygian spider, Aelin and co. are all on the same tier. They are all mortals stuck trying to so the best with the reality they are given - with the information that they are given at the time. The only direct contact we have with a Goddesses is Deanna losing her cool and possessing Aelin in empire of storms and telling Aelin to find the lock and therefore - see the truth. And then those memories from the Witch mirror.

And then SJM does a fade to black! What the HELL! So the reader doesn't get the FULL truth from a source that would have all the information - these beings that are not limited by time or space!! (Renee gives SJM the side eyes and takes a deep breath).

So here are some Questions my digging has thrown up for Me:

Question 1: Why did Brannon not like Gavin?

Is is because Gavin has an association with the Sin Eater (Who I think is Erawan’s brother that later gets banished by Maeve (maybe leaves himself? I’m still re-reading so I might be missing something here) - and also possibly the Bone Carver by another name).

If it is because of this association then what does this mean for Gavin and Gavin’s bloodline? Did he trade something to become king? A no-name human, was it for a sword to defeat Erawan? but he couldn’t wield it against Erawan as he destroyed his hand at the obsidian passes? The reason I ask this is because the description of Damaris in COM is strangely familiar. “Damaris. The legendary sword of Gavin. Its hilt was silvery gold and had little ornamentation, save for a pommel in the shape of an eye. No Jewel lay in its socket; it was only an empty ring of gold. Some legends claimed that when Gavin wielded Damaris, He would only see the truth, and that was why he had been crowned king. Or some nonsense like that..” The Scabbard is also decorated with Wyrd marks. Yes eye imagery is common in SJM’s books and it could mean nothing. But we Know Gavin was at the Sin Eater’s temple because of Queen of Shadows scene. Does the bone Carver and the prison have some sort of link to the night court? The night court heir’s blood is keyed to the lock. Feyre has an eye tattoo on her hand that allows Rhys to connect with her. On the cover of ACOWAR Feyre has an eye on her belt - meaning that the eye has a lot of symbolism for the ACOTAR universe. Is that because certain characters are linked to this eye, or is the eye something more?

I could jump to a conclusion about bloodlines and that The Night Court is descended from Manon and Dorian. Raw magic and Fae (a witch without her iron). Later splitting into fragments - Their heirs - like The Morrigan, being connected to “truth” just as Dorian is. The eye- being a symbol of the night court and also of Gavin’s sword. Dorians powers of darkness, ice, cold - Just like Rhysand’s. The crowns in ACOWAR - one being a crown of stars and the moon, similar to how the blueblood heir wore a crown of stars herself. I’m not sure of this as they would be presiding over the land that was once Terrasen - but maybe this happens when the saviour of the world fades from memory? And if there is a link between the Night court and the Bone Carver, then there would also be a link to Stryga (the bone carvers sister).

Which Leads into this Question 2: Why is Dorian as important as Aelin?

(I touched on it above but I feel like I need to justify him as having more than just the power he wields).

In Queen of Shadows, when Aelin and Co are in the Shadow Market - it talks about how Brannon is Blessed By Mala- he and his sword, Goldryn. Then there is this quote “What if there was a god of truth—a Sin-Eater? What if he blessed Gavin, and this sword?” -QOS.

So If Gavin was Blessed by the Sin Eater just as Brannon was blessed by Mala, then it would make sense that some of his descendants (Just like Brannon’s) are also Blessed. So Dorian’s power is that of the Sin Eater - The God of Truth.

Truth is often associated with the first thought in some mythologies as well. Aelin is the bringer of light - the heir of Mala light bringer / Mala Fire bringer. She embodies the first light in the universe. So we have two beings - blessed by Light and Dark, between Darkness of the Void - and initial thought and the Fire from Creation.

When Aelin is Holding Damaris in the Sin Eater’s temple, she has to drop it as it turns cold. Damaris is not her weapon (Which we know since the events following Queen of shadows). Damaris is for Dorian - heir of Truth and the Sin Eater, Just as Aelin is heir of fire and light. And Aelin wields Goldryn the sword blessed my Mala for her heir.

The power displayed in Queen of Shadows when Aelin rescues Dorian is amazing but destructive. These two have the ability to create the world.

“there was fire and light and darkness and ice” is how Dorian describes the ring destroying the Valg inside him -QOS.

And then in chapter 77 I think we have a pretty big piece of foreshadowing for Kingdom of Ash

“They joined hands. So the world ended. And the next one began.” QOS.

“They were infinite. They were the beginning and the ending; they were eternity.” - QOS.

They are one with creation. They are one with all of the realms.

This next quote helps solidify my idea of at least three realms being present at this time.

“But they held tighter to each other, past and present and future; flickering between an ancient hall in a mountain castle perched above Orynth, a bridge suspended between glass towers, and another place, perfect and strange, where they had been crafted from stardust and light. A wall of night knocked them back. But they could not be contained. The darkness paused for breath. They erupted.”

Past - The realm of the gods, the Past. Like Olympus or a sacred mountain, the gods/goddesses watching over their people.

Present - The Glass Castle - This moment.

Future - Stardust and light. This could mean Erilea turns to dust and all that remains is stardust and light. Or it could mean their future is in this third place, created from stardust and light. Or it could even be Dorian and Aelin ascending to the stars like those spirits the Night court watch on Starfall. It really depends on whether Fate is predetermined. At this point in time, the future could still be written? Or is the only answer to have a world that turns to dust? Or is it nothing and again I am looking too closely at something.

Their power - while amazing is also fairly contained. Yes Aelin wasn’t at full strength and neither was Dorian when they destroyed the Glass Castle. So will they erupt - and have it be felt across worlds - just like Amren said of Nesta. Or will they use their power to find a way to create something new.

Question 3: If Prythian is formed from Erilea and Aelin, then how come Iron has no power in Prythian when it does in Erilea?

I think because the cauldron is made of iron and contains the essence of Prythian’s creation, it has become a part of creation. It has merged with magic. So it no longer holds any power over it.

And I’m going to stop there- because this slightly organised mess is as far as I have gotten. I tried to group Ideas together, but for the sake of Flow, I have put some ideas at the end under those questions.

Basically in summary - multiple planes of existence. Step through a Wyrd Gate. Dorian, Manon and Aelin Forge the Cauldron. Aelin makes Prythian. (My belief next) Aelin turns Erilea to Ash, they escape into Prythian. Aelin is made mortal.

May 2017 CALI TRIP

Sunday May 7th 2017 After a bumpy flight with a nice loud crying baby and heavy turbulence, I was ready for nothing more than to be in sunny California. We landed in beautiful San Francisco to begin our journey in wine country just before noon. After finding the right shuttle we finally made our way to the Hilton to check in to our rooms for the night before a dinner with Wente Family Vineyards. Mark, Aaron, and I took an Oceanside stroll down to a local Elephant Bar and got what I thought was a delicious lunch. (boy was I wrong with the food to come after this, there was no comparison.) After lunch we got settled in our rooms and got ready for the 1st producer visit. We got on the bus and made our way to Livermore. We arrived at Wente and were greeted by a fifth generation Wente Family member, and now winemaker, Karl Wente. He was such a great guy, full of knowledge and very laid back, willing to hang out and chat with us as we had a beautiful dinner which he helped hand select the food and wine pairings for, which were all seamless. I especially liked the meatball slider with the sandstone Merlot, fantastic! Karl informed us of the importance of the Wente Clone of chardonnay which is used all over California is the primary clone for chardonnay in the new world. Look into that clone its very impressive! We finished our tasting of mostly NB items and headed back to the Hilton where we were all ready to go to bed early.

We left Viansa to go to Lunch and Tasting at Ram’s Gate with O’neil Vintners (cloud break, firebrand, magna terra). Once again we were greeted with bubbles, NV Brut froms Ram’s Gate. O’Neil was interesting, they make an incredible amount of wines and spirits at their large facility but quality and over delivery is their forte, firebrand is a prime example, 100% barrel fermented chardonnay with battonage(lee stirring) for 10 dollars, that’s hard to do and they do it! Cloud break Pinot Noir is going up in quality as the grapes are now sourced from Clarksburg so lets keep our eyes on that one! The other surprise for me was firebrand merlot, Its Wednesday night give me a burger and a bottle of firebrand merlot and call it a day, very smooth, great fruit, easygoing everyday red.

It was now time to go check into our hotel for the rest of the week, Flamingo Resort and Spa. What a cool place! Huge heated pool with a fun courtyard to hangout in? I could tell we would be spending our nights our here sipping some fine wine after a long day of tastings! The rooms were great, good size and lots of fun stuff to do throughout the hotel! Well upon checking in we couldn’t stay long as we were once again right off to Francis Ford Coppola Winery. What a beautiful place with rich history! We had a fantastic lunch and were able to get more in depth with why kicker cane came to be and what was next for the partnership as it continues to grow. Kaia Rose was great on that hot day by the pool. If you haven’t tried that one yet, well Kaia rose is made for a nice hot day! My favorite note at Coppola was that by 2019 they hope to be 100% sustainable, including everything they source, which is 98% of their fruit! They also think of the Press run line as Directors cut grade, and the kicker cane line as directors cut grade until you get to the napa Sonoma blend and the Rutherford, because those vines are mostly from estate grown fruit. (For example the rubicon vineyard)

Next we were off to the Hotel to do a meet and greet with 13 different producers. AW direct, Balck Cordon & 16 x 20, Calcareous, Line Shack, Macchia, Owl Ridge, Sobon Estate, Flor de Sole, Lloyd Cellars, Oak Ridge, Sextant, and St. Amant. We were split into groups and each group of 4-5 people had 1 producer to really get the details about. I was tasked with AW direct. AW Direct started in 1979 as Adler Fels Winery. They have changed hands, names and owners 2 times since then as Sonoma Estate Vintners merged with AW Direct in 2015. They make many wines for total wine including, coastline, kitchen sink, alterra, abbeyville, cold water creek, third wheel, buffalo grove, barrelhouse, Coyote creek, and a new wine im extremely pleased with under the label “Melt”. Melt is a melt in your mouth buttery chardonnay, I hear a secondary facing for this wine! AW direct’s goal is over delivery for the price and consistency, something I think they hit right on the nose with their wines. I got to see an old buddy who took great care of me and my family when we visited the beautiful calcareous, John Terry, that was great fun for me. I will say surprisingly, my favorite producer at this tasting had to be sextant. Im so familiar with most of the others so I was intrigued by sextant and it was fantastic and an amazing value, I hope to work on getting ahold of some more sextant in this market! St. Amant was another stand out, some of their vines were planted in 1901 and still produce fantastic fruit. That barbera and tempranillo were stunning for very reasonable pricing! Once we powered through that tasting most of us were ready for bed! Long days and lots of wine will do that to you!

We left the hotel just after 7 to get to Barnett on the top of Spring Mountain. What a beautiful drive! Upon arrival we were in awe at the vineyards first planted in 1984, and still only producing about 7000 cases annually since 1989. We were met the Fionna and Hal Barnett as well as David Tate. David Tate the winemaker has been with them for 10 years now after a career at Ridge(no big deal) and they seem to be a tight knit family. They built the beautiful terrace we were perched on for their daughters wedding and friends like David have since used the terrace for the same purpose, gorgeous weddings! We tasted through the incredible Barnett line of which most I am familiar with but the two eye openers had to be the Merlot again, bringing me back to merlot, show this to any high end cab drinker and save the some money while bringing them back to the beauty of a good full bodied merlot. AMAZING! Next the rattlesnake cab, this thing was gorgeous now but seems like it could age for decades gracefully. David Tate seemed to agree as he said his wines were best enjoyed 10-15 years after production. The story of rattlesnake was fun too, you must literally beware of rattlesnakes at Barnett because when they were clearing the fields to plant the vineyard, they came across 33 rattlesnakes! Oh my! I never wanted to leave the perch atop spring mountain but to Truett Hurst we go!

We arrived at Truett Hurst to see what seemed like a days worth of wines. A beautiful square setup with multiple people pouring had this well oiled machine going steady. Ginny Lambrix the head winemaker was the guest of honor as we all asked question after question and her genius showed through with her ease in answering. Truett Hurst makes many wines and many WD exclusives including California square, mad duck, eden ridge, harbor front, paso ranches, etc. The thing I remember the most is the inexpensive estate grown Marlborough Sauvingon blanc that is going to flip the SB market on its axis! Rikirra Bay(spelling?) was fantastic and exactly what you look for from Marlborough. The other surprise was the hint of gewürztraminer in Eden’s Eve, I couldn’t tell until I was told it was in there and then BOOM the beauty of the blend was in my face. What a fantastic insert into the blend. Next we tried to bourbon barrel aged paso ranches cab, Holy High Octane Batman! Smelled and tasted like bourbon on the entry and finish, fantastic for what it is! Probably the best bourbon barrel aged wine we will be selling so far. Before we left I set into the tasting room to purchase a Brut Reserve NV Blanc de Noir, I am such a sucker for bubbles!

Next was a tasting and lunch with Courtney Benham and Bill Batchelor of Martin Ray Winery. We participated in a blind tasting formatted like a sommelier exam and that was a dozy for me! Called number 1 and 2 right and then when 3 came around she through a blend of petit verdot and cab franc at us, well I had no clue what I was looking at there! After initially calling petit verdot I switched to a sangiovese based blend and was obviously very wrong.(im going with because I was so hungry J) It was a very fun experience and eye opening to me, I need to blind myself more! We then headed to meet the fine people of MacMurray Ranch and E&J Gallo Family. None other than Kate MacMurray, the daughter of the award winning actor and vine grower, Fred Macmurray. She gave us the complete history of her estate and the true story of the handshake agreement with the Gallo’s when they took over. It was like going back to the 50’s it felt so real, you could feel her passion and her family’s roots. And the estate was absolutely STUNNING! Initially when seeing this stop on the itinerary I wasn’t impressed, but boy was I wrong. They produce some fantastic chardonnay and pinot noir on a family run estate that is encompassed by one single fence line and sustainable farming. Purchased in 1941 when Fred was 32 this estate hasn’t changed much since those days, just more vines than cattle now. It was very impressive. Once again I didn’t want to leave the view!

We finished our Tuesday at River Road with our boy Ron Rubin! As Aaron and I got off the bus we were greeted by a huge genuine smile and a bear hug by Ron Rubin. We felt like VIP’s and Ron even stated that to the group J which felt pretty cool! River road was extremely impressive. They split us into three groups and showed us more on their teas, their new tasting room and crush facilty, as well has had their in house cooper take us through a training on the ins and outs of barrel usage! We had a very educational tasting with Joe Freeman as we tried to find the “alcohol sweet spot” in his chardonnay. It was very interesting tasting the same wine at 3 different alcohol levels! The coolest thing about his winery is not only are the grapes and vineyards certified California sustainable but so is the entire winery. Not many places have that certification! Next was dinner and Ron held nothing back here, the best fired chicken I have ever had, raw oysters and incredible food options from around the world, then came an unreleased rose to the STL table(all you gotta do is ask and Ron delivers). Another highlight was there wasn’t just wine there, but Ron had Russian river beers! Blind pig and Pliney the Elder for dinner was an amazing turn of events after a day of wine and palate fatigue.

We got up and headed to the chillingly beautiful estate of Chappallet on Pritchard Hill. It was so surreal it felt like an oasis. The Chappallet family greeted us like family and Philip Titus showed off his impressive winemaking skills with the beautiful juice of Chappallet Family Vineyards. I cant pick one thing to stand out here other than the romance of all of it. This place left me at a loss for words. The Pritchard hill cabernet was exquisite, as were every Sonoma-loeb product, but it was merlot again that left me floored. Why does no one like this grape in our market? That is going to have to change! The estate is absolutely amazing. It is so impressive that they can make so many great wines from their estate vineyards. Picking grapes from your back yard holds new meaning to me after visiting Barnett and Chappallet estates.

As I figured I had just left heaven, we then proceeded to Blankiet estate, and let me tell you Paradise Hill holds up to its namesake. It was literally paradise. Lavender and sage as you walk up to the vineyards, beautiful stone structures and incredible South facing slopes of vineyards (merlot are the only vines facing north) planted by David Abreu with the help of NASA. The likes of Helen Turley, Michel Rolland, and Dennis Malbec have graced their vineyards to make their wines. Crafting incredible Bordeaux blends, is their expertise and I hope they never stop. The wines left you salivating and wanting more. I’ve never seen such an impressive lineup of wine. Each one possessed amazing quality and a gigantic critic point score to boot. TheBlankiets passion for merlot and St. Emillion inspired blends was well received and I am glad they have such a passion it inspires me to give merlot more of a chance than ever!

We left Paradise to head to Titus Vineyards and see Philip again as well as my old friend Eric, who right off the bus greeted me with a big ol’ Eric Titus handshake and a “Long time no see Tyler!” Philip and Eric started this winery together in 1990 and have had 25 vintages together, they are primarily estate grown and sell 1/3 of all production to total wine, and it will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future, fantastic news! We took the bus through their vineyards and Eric hopped on to point out some facts about the vines with us. Next Lunch! Everywhere we ate was incredible and Titus was no disappointment there, I think I can hold off on big lunches and dinners for weeks after this!

We left Titus to head to Brassworks where we met with Larry and Mary-Ann Tsai of Moone-Tsai. Greeted with 2015 Napa Chardonnay we began walking the facility to see barrels from some of the best producers mixed in with moone-tsai barrels. (Fun fact you could see Philippe Melka’s house and winery from their tasting room, right across the street, even closer to Titus Vineyards but still such great proximity for their winemaker to be close by!) Larry Tsai informed us that Melka is very hands on with Moone-Tsai unlike many of his consulting winemaking projects, they see almost every day and inspect the wine up to 5 times a week. The goal is create more 100 point wines and now, much to phillipe’s dismay in the beginning, award winning chardonnay as well. (It was hard at first for the strictly Bordeaux varietal man that he is but he is making some of the best chardonnay in the world now!) What I loved about this visit so much, besides the incredible wine and snacks, was Larry’s approach to describing wine with analogies using people. He called his 2013 howell mountain red Tina Turner cloaked in Chanel. So true to what this wine is, it’s a massive beast of a personality in a wine wrapped in a shroud of velvet. Like the Prince(the artist) of wine.

Upon leaving Moone-Tsai’s Brassworks facility, we headed up to meet Allison Crowe of Plata Wine Partners. They craft a huge array of wines and are the single largest vineyard holders in all of the California coast with access to 25,000 acres of vines. They get first dibs at many premium vineyard sites spanning across multiple AVA’s and produce the seven rings line, the Rock View Pinot Noir, Soldiers of fortune, Big 6, Verada, and Buttercream. The Artisinal Pizzas were a fantastic way to keep us warm as the cold winds of carneros wrapped around us on top of the hill at Plata. Pinot and Pizza kept me happy. It was nice to taste the 4 soldiers of fortune lineup next to each other and see that they are true to their appelations, not just 4 pinots, they are AVA specific that smell and taste like their AVA, try the Carneros and the Sonoma again if you haven’t revisited them lately, they are my personal favorites.

We start today with an hour long voyage to Black Stallion Winery. It is a beautiful estate with very fun atmosphere surrounding the winery. We were there to not only taste black stallion wines but to have an educational seminar from the Napa Valley Vintners Association. Check out napavalleyvintners.com and Napa Valley Rocks, very informative! Those representing NVV were none other than: Black stallion, Cain, Hestan, Long meadow ranch, Nickel & nickel – far niente, silver oak – twomey, D R stephens – Hunnicut, Rombauer, Melka, Roy estate, Red mare, Honig, and Vinrock Caves. The highlight to me was the hunnicut wines, they were fantastic and better than I ever remember them being. Another was Cain who pulled ut 3 different PNV lots for us to try…. What a treat! (the petite verdot ruined my palate for the next hour or so but it was soooo worth it!)

It was going to be hard to get much better than that, or so I thought. We then went to meet the Michael Mondavi Family at Rob Mondavi’s personal home. Grandson to the legendary Robert Mondavi, Rob Mondavi Jr treated us like family as he accepted us into his home. This was the second time I saw something on the itinerary and was not expecting to be impressed but it very well could have been my favorite part of the entire trip. Sitting down and eating lunch with Rob Mondavi across from me at the table and being so open and informative avout his wines and his process and his desire to build his brand off estate wines and small production, it was amazing, the wines were fantastic, especially his late harvest muscat which was an overall better dessert wine than the last time I tasted dolce by far neinte! (I know bold statement but just look at it!

Rob then bestowed upon us a split of the 2015 PNV Cabernet Sauvignon… and he and his assistant winemaker Sabrina signed my bottle! Amazing man and amazing hospitality, paired with incredible food, wine and a view that was unrivaled, I cannot imagine this trip ever getting bested by anything I do in life!

We left Mondavi to taste at the firehouse vineyard with the Pina family and rockstar winemaker Anna Monticelli. Anna worked at Bryant family for 5 years with John Pina before coming to work with Pina exclusively. (Johns wife works for silver oak) Anna has worked at many wineries but most notable was here year spent as an associate winemaker at Cheval Blanc. That is impressive right there! They wines are all spectacular and I was surprised to find out that their biggest problem with their vineyard is Wild Boar!! Wow, so I naturally had to try their boar sausage with firehouse cabernet sauce, it was fantastic, beautiful family recipe! I knew I loved Pina wines as I always have and their Chardonnay was an eye opener again for me, it is fantastic and worth a higher price than what is tagged, single vineyard farmed by the pina family and crafted by none other than Anna, that beautiful peach and pear with green apple and subtle creamy finish was fantastic! I will say nothing has changed though, as the firehouse vineyard cabernet is still my favorite Pina bottle!

Leaving Pina was hard but only until we got to Baldacci. As we pulled up we were informed we would be led by a fantastic author. “Karen Macneil?!” I exclaimed and was so happy when the answer that followed was, “yes”. I got off the bus to see the guru that is Karen Macneil waiting for us, the Author of The Wine Bible, which is one of the reasons I have been able to learn so much and retain so much about wine. She is one of my idols!

What an experience. The Baldacci’s led us through their vineyards as winemaking legend Rolando Herrera and his son Jaquin showed us more about the grape vines and the beauty of stag’s leap district. We then proceeded into the barn to taste with Karen Macneil. With Rolando seated at my table we had another fun blind tasting where we put three (or four if you include the Stag’s Leap which was not blind) different AVA cabs against eachother, the coombsville was easy to call but the Oakville and Calistoga were very similar and a bit harder to distinguish. Karen led us to understanding these ava’s and the wine that would be produced from them! She then signed some copies of her book, which of course I had to snag, and then we sat for an incredible dinner with amazing Baldacci wines, including some small production Ruppert!!

Going into the last day it was going to be hard to top any of that, but I had my suspicions we might be able to compete with what was to come next. So we started our Friday off with the Corley Family at Monticello Vineyards. Pulled up to the beautiful estate to see the replica of Thomas Jefferson’s home, “Monticello” it was a fantastic estate with a huge family tradition. You could see how each brother controls their aspect of the company but hold eachother together and to their core values with a nice system of checks and balances between them. For example winemaker Stephen Corley will get excited and want to do another varietal or another lot and the other brothers will bring him back to what they have always traditionally done. Another cool fact was that Stephen believes his wines are made for aging. He likes to drink them young because he is impatient but exclaimed he believes they are best after at least 7 years, and can go up to 30 or more. I love the lasting appeal that these wines have. The chardonnay from Monticello is beautiful, 1/3rd malolactic and 1/3 new French oak makes a very nice fruit driven chard with a delicate finish without the blast of butter or oak from many napa chardonnays. The Corley line is much more ML and much more New French Oak and much more ageworthy than the Monticello line, they are not a second label, but 2 separate stand alone styles of winemaking. The tasting was excellent and we were given some beautiful breakfast paninis to fill our tummys, thanks Corley Family!

Next we went to Rutherford Ranch to meet with ASV(arroyo seco vineyards) and Dominican Oaks producer Rutherford Ranch. Each of these producers does a wide spread of wines for us, including oak grove, muirwood, canyon oaks, melodramatic, and Rutherford ranch makes Dominican oaks, cuboid, and grand pacific. Lots of new packaging coming as well as our insight was given to the marketing team to find a better way to distinguish the different labels of one brand on the shelf as some are very similar to the eye. Put the Domincan Oaks Merlot on the tasting bar but tell no one it is a merlot, then sit back and watch merlot sales rise! That merlot is fantastic and smooth, easily approachable great red! New cuboid packaging is awesome as well, stronger box wont smash like the old ones! Great!

We then headed towards the beautiful vineyards or Caymus. Greeted by Jenny Wagner first who spoke about caymus overall and especially her wine Emmolo, then Charlie to talk about his chardonnay project Mer Soleil and his role in conundrum wines. We then proceeded to lunch with none other than Chuck Wagner, winemaker for Caymus, 1858, Red Schooner, and so on. It was fun to meet such huge names in the business and again to be greeted with the feel of being a part of the family. Chuck was gracious enough to taste us on the 2009 special selection side by side the 2014 special selection which was a treat in itself! He then opened up his grand durif petit sirah just for kicks! It was a wonderful experience to rub elbows with the biggest name in the business of napa valley cabernet sauvignon. And getting a bottle signed by the man himself was a special special moment!

We proceeded on to meet the most colorful son of the wagner family, Joseph of Copper Cane Wine and Provisions. Joey’s set up was incredible. Camp Fugly, or La Cana as he likes to call it now, was gorgeous and tasting the wines was a great moment. Tuli Chardonnay and Torial Red are coming soon and are fantastic! Torail red was one of my favorites and is a blend of Zin, Grenche and carignan, I cant wait to get that and sell it, so good! Torial seems to be very dear to Joeys heart which makes me happy because it is a Total Wine Exclusive! I really loved learning about the meanings in the names of his wines. Tuli means sharing, Elouan means good light, las Alturas means the heights, boen means farm, beran means bear, torial means by way of. Carne humana stands not for human flesh but for rancho carne humana where most of the fruit comes from. Joey also produces hand crafted cigars called Avrae, light to medium bodied cigars that pair fantastically with his wines, especially the zins according to Joey.

It cant get better than all that right? Wrong! Amici Cellars dinner is next to finish off the trip! We got to Amici and were greeted wit ha huge smile from Bob Shephard and his team. I was so pleased to meet Amici winemaker Tony Biagi (formerly with cade and plumpjack) and Olema winemaker Bobby Donnell with the help of Jesse his assistant winemaker. We were greeted with a rose from Provence that hasn’t been released yet! Olema Rose! 91 points from suckling for the 2016 vintage we should receive in june! It was beautiful, true to preovence, subtle coloration, perfect for the price and for summertime!.

One thing we learned was the quality of the No curfew line. They entered No curfew into a competition in San Francisco where no curfew cab bested decoy cabernet in a double blind tasting! What a deal! They have also received bronze medals for all no curfew wines and a silver for the no curfew chardonnay! For a value wine, that is fantastic! Sell more no curfew is the point I’m making here! Another new wine is Eschion, a high end cabernet made exclusively for Total Wine that will be near 200. It is sourced from two small vineyards, the legendary Missouri Hopper vineyard and the unrivalled To-Kalon vineyard in the beckstoffer vineyard. It was amazing! Can not wait to have that in store, 96 points from Suckling! We tasted through their lineup and the higher end cabernets blew me away. We ate an amazing meal with the help of some more Pliney the elder and other great hard to get beers to refresh our palate before Bob pulls out about 6 PNV Missouri Hopper Vineyard cabernet’s for us to taste, capping of the week with our 5th PNV lot in 6 days! Look at the pure joy as I try to hide my pruple teeth!

Finally we got back to the hotel and surreally the trip was over. We spent the last night by the pool finishing up whatever wines we weren’t bringing back home or was already open enjoying the company of the new friends we had made. It was the trip of a lifetime and I can not wait to go back. Next time with a little less wine and a bit more time, because man that was a canon blast of a power tasting! I learned so much, and I met so many great people! Thank you so much for this experience to everyone who helped make it happen. Like I said it was the best time of my life, the trip of a lifetime!
