OKAY PROPAGANDA TIME! @yttd-enjoyerNo pressure for any of these lol, I added a lot because rambling and procrastination. I’m copy-pasting some descriptions from another post of mine. I was trying to look for some with good lore and magic systems, or that had great characters.

Cursed Princess Club: This one is adorable and hilarious. It’s a fantasy and comedy. The Pastel Kingdom has four children. The eldest, Maria, is 18, and so beautiful that forest animals follow her when she sings. The second oldest, Lorena, is 17, and so beautiful that flowers grow where she sleeps. The third child is prince Jamie, who is so beautiful that he is constantly GLOWING (literally.) And his twin sister, Gwendolyn, is the sweetest and perhaps most loved of all! The three sisters are happily engaged to the Plaid Princes. When Gwen meets her soon to be betrothed, though…. he finds her to be really, really, ugly. Gwen has to learn to love herself as she is with the help of a club for cursed princesses (and one prince who wants to change the club name desperately.) It’s hilarious. Someone swallows her fiance whole. Jamie can taste feelings through food and keeps accidentally violating HIPPA. Lorena beats the crap out of a bunch of clowns. Gwen keeps getting mistaken for an evil witch. There’s a really spoiled drunk llama named Laverne. Maria buys merch of her boyfriend’s fanclub. There’s an omniscient clam. It’s a glorious disaster. (Also that was what the screenshots I was losing my mind and spamming last night. I relate to the plaid guy on an eerie level. This one has INCREDIBLE character arcs and parallels and foreshadowing and details and AUGH)

Space Boy: This one is one of my all-time favorites, and I believe it deserves an award for it’s realistic character arcs and characters. I’d be convinced if you told me they were real people. Sci-Fi Romance. (A lot of romance. Not a particular favorite genre of mien it’s just like 70% of all Webtoons.) In the far future, humanity is exploring the furthest reaches of space using the freezing sleep thing (real thing, forgot name.) Amy lives happily on a mining colony in deep space, until her father loses his job, and she and her family are sent away from the colony, and everyone she knows, back to Earth, where she wakes up 30 years later (frozen sleep thing.) Amy is adjusting to life on Earth, the new technology, and trying to come to terms with the fact her best friend is now in her 40s and she’s missed it all in sleep. Amy’s identifying trait is synesthesia: to her, people have flavors to match their personalities! Well, everyone except a strange boy she meets a school, who refuses to speak to her, and doesn’t have a flavor, Oliver. Amy decides that she WILL find this kid’s flavor if it kills her, and manages to get herself roped in the most chaotic mystery involving ancient cults, alien artifacts, unsolved murders, a government conspiracy, and whether or not Oliver is actually who he says he is. It’s so sad but I love it so much and I want to send everyone to therapy. I don’t even like sci-fi usually so this was amazing for me.

Nomads: ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. The concept is your stereotypical “there were five kingdoms after a war 100 years ago:” the Sun, Sea, Sand, Sky, and Snow kingdoms. To maintain the peace, traveling between the kingdoms is banned for average citizens. You may, however, choose to become a Nomad, and travel for a price: you can never have a permanent home. Lance of the Sea Kingdom REALLY doesn’t want to be a Nomad. However, his little brother Mikah goes missing, and Lance has to find him in one year (once Mikah turns 18 it’ll be impossible to find him.) It’s going well and dandy until some unfortunate circumstances result in him, his new traveling buddy Satra, and a magic talking cat-thing being mistakenly accused of kidnapping a prince. And now they’re wanted bounties. (This comic is HILARIOUS so many shenanigans and I love Satra so much.)

Castle Swimmer: Can’t reveal TOO much of this ‘cause spoilers but it’s a really really good story. It’s a fantasy romance too. In this society of “Mers” (merfolk), every kingdom has long awaited the day a mysterious, mythicaeing known as the Beacon arrives. He will grant each kingdom’s prophecy, be that granting them fortune or saving their lives. When the Beacon arrives, though, turns out he’s literally just some kid named Kappa who has no idea what he’s doing. Siren is the prince of the shark kingdom. They have a curse that will cause them to suffer and become covered in scars and eventually die. The only way they can break the curse is whenever the Beacon arrives—and Siren, as predicted, will kill him. The only problem is that Siren REALLY doesn’t want to be a murderer, and Kappa REALLY doesn’t want to die, and they both are pining HARD.

Suitor Armor: This is a romantic fantasy but I like it because it doesn’t feel boiled down to JUST a “will they won’t they.” Fairies and humans have been at war for as long as anyone can remember, with heavy losses on both sides. A Lord rescues a child, a little girl named Lucia, to be his daughter, Kirsi’s, lady-in-waiting until Kirsi marries a nearby king. The only issue? Lucia is a fairy, and she and the Lord must hide that if she wants to live. After they’ve grown up, Kirsi and Lucia go to the nearby kingdom to prepare for the wedding, where Lucia meets their mage’s newest creation: an enchanted, sentient suit of armor named Modeus. And now we’re all aggressivley shipping a tin can with one of the coolest women ever. (And I LOVE the magic system in this… we don’t know everything yet, it’s being revealed as time progresses, but it’s amazing in my humble little opinion.)

Homesick: Recommending this one since you’ve read School Bus Graveyard! It’s almost a “sister series” in that the fanbases overlap lots and the creators have done collabs too! Disclaimer that it’s mature for a reason. It covers a lot of dark topics and is a HORROR FOR A REASON. School Bus Graveyard is incredibly dark, but it sort of eases you in to the terror while Homesick tosses you in like a flailing child. If you do choose to read it I can provide trigger warnings, though it may spoil some plotlines a bit. Rayne (my pfp!) wakes up on a rooftop with no memories at all and meets a boy named Samael, who quickly informs her that it’s the apocalypse. Cannibalistic creatures called murks roam the land, feeding on anything that makes eye contact. Rayne and Samael form a deal to survive, but things get really, REALLY messy when they encounter someone from Samael’s past and get wrapped up in something that might just be worse than the apocalypse. On top of it all, Rayne has noticed some strange things about herself, including terrible headaches that warn her of murks… (It’s so good I love it but good lord it gets dark. I really want to say more about it but the story doesn’t jump right into the main action or plot right away so I CAN’T WITHOUT SPOILING IT SOB.)

Their dad was outta the picture for whatever reason [I'm leaning towards just regular old divorce]

Adellai was rebellious teen to the max and was like fuck you mom im living with dad, she was old enough to choose but Mikey had to stay with their mom as they weren't old enough.

But because they had to stay they met Kitta and shenanigans ensue.

Adellai has more moth attributes than mikah and even has wings.

As one of the beta readers, I'm really interested to know what the major changes are going to be for the final draft of Cavernous, if you feel like talking about them!

OOH yeah I'm kinda dying to talk about it actually so ty! I'll try to give an overview without being too spoilery. (Here's a quick link to the progress checklist for anyone else who wants to follow along with these revisions)

I'm relieved to say that there are no major structural/developmental changes, and that basically everything on the docket is small adjustments to internal character voice and dialog to make sure everyone's motivations are as clear as possible, their arcs are distinctive, and the conversations, u know, crackle. Joanna got the most notes and is undergoing the most changes (Which didn't not surprising! She's been a challenging character for me to nail.) This is mostly going to be about turning the dial up on her sense of adventure/enthusiasm and adding more of her backstory (esp. around her parents & upbringing) to contextualize her decision making - in the grand scheme she should still feel like the Joanna that's already in the text, just with more of her to chew on.

In fact, a lot of the changes are about just adding more context and backstory, so while I really am trying not to balloon the word count too much, I've accepted that this thing is going to probably end up sitting between 120k and 125k words. (It's at like 118k currently) Thankfully I already had my meltdown about not being able to scrunch it under 100k, and I've since made my peace with it 🙏 bless

This is getting long, here's a cut!

The two chapters that are getting overhauled, 20 and 28, are both largely about getting Mikah into the story more - he's so important but remains in the background for so much of the story. In both of these I'm doing some cutting - there will be a little less javelin throwing and certain long carriage convos will become shorter carriage convos, and in exchange there will be a little more elder prince drama, so hopefully that's good news!

There's also going to be a lot of shuffling and adjustment going on with the minor and side characters in order to poise readers for book two which is fun! Gareina, the pretty courtesan who helps Joanna, has been renamed to Corina by an overwhelming committee vote of "how the hell do you pronounce that?" and she'll have some different under-the-surface motivations than her current iteration in order to align with her role in book 2, which is small but important. Characters like Sian (Pritta's politically angling cousin), Olma (Stacker's dance partner), and Martem (Mikah's scribe) are all getting slightly expanded roles, also because of their importance in book 2. In exchange, characters who are there but aren't really important (Like Leti, Vanda, Horus, Evie, etc.) will no longer be named or focused on in order to streamline things and make it easier to recall who's who.

I'm also going to be planting little teeny hints of a new character! He'll be very minor in book 1 and very much not minor in book two :) Lots of beta readers noted the ending as being abrupt so I'll be adding a very short epilogue that will serve as a check-in and segue-way as well. Plotting out book 2 ahead of finishing book 1 turned out to be a great strategy, and I'm just desperately trying not to get ahead of myself and start diving into the next installment before I get this first one locked!

Elenore was born in a set of triplets who were all put up for adoption after birth. The three went to separate homes. Elenore was adopted by an older couple who was never able to have children of their own. They spent a majority of their time working. Her mother was a nurse and her father owned a funeral home.

She grew up with the idea that death was a normal part of life, despite the atrocities it may bring. For as long as she could remember she was always curious about what her father did. Sometimes she would sneak into work spaces to explore. When she was old enough her father started introducing her to the job.

Elenore lived a mostly normal life. She met her soul mate in middle school. When they graduated high school they decided to go to college together.

They later married and decided to start a family when Elenore started experiencing infertility issues. At 21 they packed up their entire lives to move to Los Angeles in hopes of IVF providing them with the family they craved.

For years being a wife and mother was all Elenore focused on. Test after test, shot after shot, attempt after attempt. Her hope never diminished, but his did.

Until Elenore finally fell pregnant. It wasn't until her second trimester that she discovered her husbands affairs. She kept them to herself for a while, but one night that changed.

When Elenore was about to hit her 3rd trimester they received news that Elenore's father had suffered a massive heart attack and died. The family business was in need of her return to New York, but her husband refused leaving a pregnant Elenore to watch her mother struggle to be by herself in the grief.

Elenore went into labor early. Unfortunately, the birth went wrong and their baby was born still. Everything Elenore ever knew and loved suddenly vanished from within her.

After the funeral and tying up loose ends, Elenore confessed to knowing of her husbands affair. With ample evidence she filed for divorce and left back for New York where she has been taking over the family business little by little.

I guess doing martial arts since being 7. It created my love for fighting sports and made me so eager to try new ones! But also made me not accept the fact that I have to rest and that pain during exercises is not a good thing... heh

the inability to cherish the good things that happen out of fear of them disappearing

you've been hurt, badly, haven't you? it's been a long time since you've felt comfortable in your own mind. everything's become a sign that you're going to be hurt again. so when something good does come along, you're not used to it. it feels foreign. it's weird and scary. you want to believe that it will work out, but you just can't. you've been burned too many times. because of this, you've become cynical. you never wanted it to be this way, but you're trying to protect yourself. i see how it's easier to not accept the good, out of fear of its inevitable end. once the dust settles, you're terrified of being alone again. but by doing this, you're never enjoying those good moments. you're letting them pass you by. you have to start letting the happiness come to you. even if it's in waves, isn't that better than not at all?

Okay, but the thing Marshy posted about god!Mikah just got my brain going hardcore, because like...that is SO good.

And it reminds me of something I have with some of my gods that is a little similar, pertaining specifically to those who are intrinsically bound to a realm and their followers, as opposed to a god who is more "wandering" or "free", who serves across multiple realms. So like...Darrow, who is a god that has specifically bound himself to serve Ativere and the people there, vs Baphomet, for example, who just kind of amasses followers wherever he pleases and more or less does what he wants.

But starting with the gods like Aro or Nirbhi, that are (or were) more the “bound to their realm and followers” category, yeah? You know how different pantheons will have slightly different versions of the same god? Or sometimes, even the same pantheons will have different depictions of one god, or that one aforementioned god will be believed to have dominion over entirely different things, depending on the source/branch of the pantheon/religion. With that in mind, and how often people’s beliefs can change and grow over time, I was trying to think of how that might effect the gods in question, since in a way, they are almost literally a part of their realm and followers.

So for those “bound” gods, the beliefs, and needs, and wishes, and even the actions of their followers, to some effect, will slowly cause the god themselves to change over time. Picking up more “domains” that they oversee, or their personalities-- even their memories and experiences, and how they view both of those things changing bit by bit to fit this vision that their people have of them.

And over time, it literally morphs them into this version of themselves that could be considered as close to “ideal” to their followers and their realm, as possible.

This obviously means slowly losing pieces of who they were when they were first born, or first became gods...not even because of a choice they made, or an experience they had, but because of something they didn’t really have any control over.

So there’s this sort of helplessness with it, but also this connection that really can’t really be replaced or described. And it’s both so fulfilling and so draining all at the same time.

And so there’s some gods that-- because they don’t want to entirely lose their original purpose, or who they are, and what they personally believe of themselves, will keep journals, write letters to themselves, or really any method of recording that will withstand the test of time. Just so there’s something that they can always look back at and go “Oh, right. That’s who I am, that’s my purpose, that’s what I wanted for myself.” in the event that those pieces of them get lost.

But there are also others that don’t do that...either because they don’t care to, or because they realize too late. And over time, they’re just...not at all the same person anymore that they used to be. They’ve lost sight of those things they believed in and wanted so much in the beginning, and had them replaced with something else that isn’t actually theirs.

AND I JUST LIKE THE CONCEPT OF IT A LOT OKAY.

Performance Highlights

I) During the introduction two men can be seen fussing over a wanted poster depicting Himari's face until she walks in between them, each of the guns in her hands pointed at their heads.

II) In the interlude she pushes through the crowd of dancers to take her place in between Hongjoong and Yeosang, a bandana in her hand separating the two before her voice rings through the backing track saying "하나, 둘,셋...draw", dropping the cloth just in time for the men to draw their weapons.

III) When everyone gets back into position for Mingi's verse she leans a forearm on the rapper's shoulder, a pepper positioned in between her lips that he takes out to bring to his own mouth as she sings "지금부터 fly" before exiting the stage with a wink to the camera.

CHARLEY: I uh... also used the weird screenshots you took when you tried... blocking them. MIKAH: What? I told you not to use those! *Sigh* What else did you fuck up? There has to be more- CHARLEY: I uh... Also made the blog under your name... MIKAH: (LONG PAUSE) What? CHARLEY: Ahah... Yeah. I-I just... Wasn't thinking. I mean, I thought it would be funny for this weird anonymous blog user to use your name and then accuse you in the next sentence, ya know? "It's called a cruel irony" ey? God, I fucking love that movie- MIKAH: Don't tell me you used my fucking user too. CHARLEY: Kinda? As the blog title... But, that's not the actual name of the blog! MIKAH: Then what is it? What could it possibly be? CHARLEY: "murder-files". With a hyphon inbetween the words. MIKAH: (NO RESPONSE) CHARLEY: I know, it sounds stupid and cringey, but it was the best I could come up with since the blog is like "looking into the case," quote unquote. Uuuuh yeah. I can change it if you want! MIKAH: Ugh, no, it's fine for now. Just... I'll start maintaining it since it's under my fucking name. You better not fuck up anything else.
