It’s no secret that Theodore Nott had a rough childhood

Between witnessing his mother’s death at a young age and having a particularly ruthless father, Theo learned to be quietly reserved early on

1000% Theo is an introvert

Despite being seemingly closed off, he’s extremely observant and good at reading others and picking up on things quickly

While he may not be the best at deciphering his own emotions, he’s able to sort through others’ easily

This makes it easy for him to be rather manipulative because he knows what makes other’s tick and how to go straight for the jugular

He may be distant and off putting in the beginning, but once you get close, he’s a clingy bastard because he doesn’t let many people get close, so once you make it there he’ll basically hold you captive forever

He’s also stupid smart

(Canonically he’s able to re-create an illegal time turner after they were all destroyed in the department of mysteries so//)

And this makes him a bit of an arrogant asshole

Looks down on people he thinks aren’t as smart as him

He definitely thinks that he knows best and can have a “my way or the highway” type mindset

Probably has some type of gifted kid™️ trauma and a crippling fear of failure

Anyway, he’s super intelligent and witty and has the potential to do really well in classes

But he has a nasty habit off skiving off with Mattheo Riddle

Who happens to be his best friend along with Lorenzo Berkshire

A lot of people think Theo is the “mother” of the group, or at least the one with the most impulse control

They’re wrong

Theo is the one that Mattheo goes to with his dumbass ideas and Theo’s response is generally something along the lines of-

“Absolutely not you tosser. If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it right”

Queue Mattheo’s initial plan- only methodically planned out to cause maximal emotional trauma for the Hogwarts population

Theo and Mattheo are also a chaotic duo on the quidditch pitch

Theo is a chaser

Making the quidditch team in his third year is one of the only times his father showed a hint of satisfaction with the boy

Being on the Slytherin quidditch team, he’s often labeled a preppy jock

And Mattheo does help him break out of his shell more

But he’s a nerdy lil book worm at heart and likes to be holed up in the library most days

Theo also has quite the reputation of being a ladies man with rumors about his escapades swarming the student body

But really they’re just that- rumors

Lorenzo is more of the openly flirtatious pretty boy, and Mattheo certainly knows how to make his way around which is perhaps why people think Theo would be the same way

But he isn’t one to really form physical attachments- emotional or not

He prefers to fly under the radar

He may have had a fling or two, but isn’t one to kiss and tell

He has a hard time entering a real relationship

Mostly because when he first realizes he’s caught feelings, he’s convinced he’s actually just ill and stays in bed pretending to be sick

But once he comes to terms with things, he’s one determined wizard

Makes sure everyone knows that you’re off limits (possibly before you know yourself)

Definitely goes to Enzo for advice on how to woo you

With varying degrees of success

King of subtle PDA (just enough to mark his territory)

Confident and secure in his relationship, but also still jealous as hell

Will hex the living shit out of someone for breathing at you the wrong way

Finds it amusing when you get jealous though

But will shut it the fuck down as soon as he picks up on you being actually upset (probably embarrassing whoever it is in the process)

Not always the best at communicating his feeling cause he’s emotionally constipated af

But tries because he knows he doesn’t want a relationship like his parent’s

Good morning, Commander! (Oh, bother.) I hope your acclimation to the Venator is going smoothly. I understand space is a vastly different climate from Kamino; should you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.

(Yeah, right. Cody’s been bred not to ask for help. Particularly, he’ll be cold in his grave before he asks for help from his commanding officer. He’s here to prove himself, if nothing else. All eyes are on him, now; Kenobi is one of the top generals, and there aren’t any officers under him higher than Cody.)

Now, to my true topic. The planet that we’ll be landing on later today seems to have quite a wide variety of flora and fauna, not all of which is quite amicable to humanoids. (Amicable. Who even uses that language, let alone at five in the morning standard time?) Of course, with how new everything is, I don’t yet understand how it’ll react to droids… I suppose we shall see in due time. We can only hope that things work out in our favour.

(Briefly, Cody wonders what the general enjoys outside of wartime, and if it perhaps is research. He subsequently clears his head with a shake - personal interests don’t matter in galactic war.)

Bridge suggests we should be deploying gunships at about 1430 standard time, upon arrival at our destination. My goal is to have a briefing before then; as we are not pressed for time until just prior to when the gunships deploy, I suggest we aim for around 1300 hours. It would be much appreciated if you could be there just a titch earlier, so the two of us could discuss battle plans before the full briefing begins.

I’m glad to have you by my side, Commander. War is obviously not something to take lightly, and trust plays a key role in both morale and success. You seem like a good man, and I’m looking forward to working with you further!

Thancred stood at the threshold of a windowed door. 

A simple, marble patio flanked with evergreen shrubbery that could take The Northern Empty’s impotent weather cradled the entryway. Being on the first floor, it wasn’t entirely difficult to get to, but the familiar rush of entering a space he was not meant to be still filled his belly. Ever had he the taste for skullduggery.

Sharlayan’s Asklepieion was a large, domed building nestled in the bosom of Archons’ Design, just to the west of The Nymphaeum. A sanitarium, which, by order of The Forum had housed near-all the Scions at least once whereupon their triumphant return from the depths of the universe’s heart. His own stay had been but a fortnight’s time, but none held such grievous wounds as did their Spear. Zenos Viator Galvus had seen to that. By taking from her all that she had– first body, and at last the soul– he sought to leave her in the cold, vacuum of space. That man had taken so much, and left her so very little.

The thought continued to unsettle him. Perhaps, that was the reason his feet so often took him to her doorstep. It was to assuage his heart, is what he told himself. To confirm she yet lived and breathed.

Thancred kept busy as to not think, allowing duty and errand to wear and keep him for most of the day’s light–  and thus well-past visiting hours. Since she had awoken from her induced coma a moon’s breadth ago, he had taken to stealing into her room at the sanitarium whenever possible. 

The simple fact that Tsuna continued to leave the door unlatched was proof enough that Thancred still remained in her good graces, and for that he thanked his own.

Two, quick raps in succession against the glass pane announced his arrival, though he did not wait for a response before he helped himself. Tsuna’s left leg still lay on the mend from the pieces her femur was in when first they found her battered and broken on the Ragnarok’s bridge, and he sought to not take more from her than his little visits were already. She sorely needed the rest, and a piece of mind that his presence did not often bring.

As the latch clicked, and his un-armored boot inched into the threshold, he lifted his face to see the singular occupant of the room sitting up from her sickbed, looking as beautiful and glowing as the day they had first met. The warm light of the singular oil lamp upon her bedside table made her glow with a warmth that was more inviting than any hearth. Disrobing and crawling beside her to stave off his chill shamefully crossed his mind.

Thancred closed the door behind him with a delicate touch to both avoid detection and cut off the chilling draft. His gloved hands had fallen numb from the journey from The Peristyle, and so he warmed them briefly with his breath. 

“Evening.” His hushed voice played coy upon their rendezvous. After all, he was here after-hours. Should a staffer be alerted to his presence there would be a most-unwelcome stir.

Tsuna’s tired eyes rolled and smiled back at him with generous affection. It took a modicum of effort for her to slide across her mattress, though when she did, the empty space was patted. It was an invitation, and he strode to take it with aplomb. Her eyes followed him as he set his satchel down by her bedside table, and took a heavy seat where her hand had beckoned. She leaned back against the headboard, and folded her fingers upon her lap, watching him silently as he twisted ever-slightly to face her. His arm braced his weight and caged-in the plum line of her legs from above the warm blankets. He very much wished to feel them. For now he abstained. 

There was an intimacy lately, he noticed, present during his nightly visits that he hadn’t wished to uncrate, but to say it was not a welcome thing would be a lie. Craving her company would be folly; not a farce.

“Evening,” she finally replied, still looking up at him through thick lashes, and beaming shy. Clearly, she was amused by his sudden entrance. “Cold?”

“Very much.” He answered by pulling off his gloves, finger-by-finger, and rubbing feeling back into his palms. “Have you been well?”

Her smile waned as she thought about the question. Her hand rubbed absently at her bound thigh, and then to her sorry, lop-sided horns. The one that still stood whole had borne a deep fissure along the forward-sloping curve– assumingly after having a great weight land upon it– whilst Zenos had succeeded in lopping off most of the other. What remained brought to mind a twisted branch having been broken on the spiral. “Well enough. Though, I’ve been… having vertigo as of late. Since I came to.”

“Aside from the usual fare?” he asked, hopeful. Her gift of The Echo ensured that she ended up on the floor of most places more often than not.

Tsuna shook her head on the negative, and immediately winced for it. “My chirurgeon believes my horn is to blame. They all say they’ll have to… possibly cull the other. For balance, I suppose.” 

In plain: it bothered her. He saw the way she thumbed the chip near the point, and caressed the ram’s curve of it with passing regret. He had done the same, once. Only now, he realised much too late that it had been a privilege afforded him, and not pleasantry.

Her thumb drew from horn to pursed mouth in transparent thought, and for once he hadn’t known what to say. Her horns, magnificent as Matanga ivory as they were, seemed more an inconvenience than a boon– but he knew better than to give voice to thoughtless musing. Thancred turned away, digging his thumb in the creasing space between his brows to will something of worth to form inside his damned skull.

“You’ve got Etherirys’ best minds at your beck-and-call, dear. You could not ask for better.” His mouth twisted at the corners as he tried to uplift her spirit, though she did not raise her eyes from her lap to see. “... They will grow back, yes?” He asked with a grimace, well aware of his ignorance.

Tsuna raised her chin to contemplate, and then back at her hands to scratch idly at the bandages. She nodded; this time with care. “Aye. Though… Still, I…” her jaw wagged in vain effort to find her words, and when she stalled, his brows raised a quiet question. “I was ten-and-six summers when first they grew in full. I remember… because it was when my mother said I would come of age.”

“If it should be another sixteen summers, then let it be sixteen. You are no lesser without them.”

She raised her face to him for that, and to his pleasure, a small smile bloomed. He returned a small one of his own in kind. He told her it would be well, and for the time being, they both seemed to believe. 

Her left hand fell to his in an effort to warm his skin with a gentleness he did not deserve. “... What will you be doing in sixteen years?” she asked, sliding her thumb between the cleft of his chapped fingers. He could not fathom the answer.

He chuffed. She asked a tall order. 

“I make it a point to not think that far ahead.” 

His shrug and half-smile were not the deterrence he believed it was. It only served to disappoint her, as evident in how willowy her voice had fallen. She rolled her thumb over his middle knuckle in earnest. “How can you live with nothing to look forward to?”

“I look forward to tomorrow,” he said simply. “I could not tell you what will happen in another ten– nor, sixteen. However, I do know that dawn will break on the morrow– as it always has.”

Tsuna looked down to their joined hands and breathed a shuddered sigh as if his answer still wasn't satisfactory. She craved another– something different– idealist, and hopeful. Thancred had never mourned his inability to read the stars, nor did he know what this one had in store now with Hydaelyn having left its heart. The heavens had little bearing on the path he carved for himself.

“You look disappointed,” he noted, softly and she quickly cut the air between them to deny him.

“No, I–”

“Then I would pose the same question: where would the vaunted Warrior of Light be in sixteen years time?”

Her lips parted on an answer, and closed for it. Shame was writ on her face– or embarrassment for the fantasy she had concocted well before his question.

He brought her hand to his chin, and brushed lips over her delicate fingers. “Go ahead,” he encouraged.

“I want… to be eating breakfast with you,” she whispered, her eyes never leaving where they joined.

It was his turn to pause in shock. He slowly released her hand, feeling the intimacy having grown overtly cloying. It was a promise he could not make. Thancred looked into her eyes, and found only sweetness therein. 

He forced a smile. He had to; to protect her dear heart. “We can do that at any time. That’s a long time to wait.” 

But Tsuna just smiled. “I know.”

"Breathe." This was the fourth time Eshani visited these hallowed doors, yet still success remained beyond her. She poured over too many books to just walk away empty-handed. She shoved her hand into the frame, reciting the spell that would grant her passage. The words ebbed and flowed from her tongue, bringing her magic to the edge. The temple asked for her magic, as it always did. Pure and unadulterated, it sought the blood of her soul in its truest form. When asked she gave it golden flames, yet golden flames did not suffice.

The door's request thrummed through her veins. "Just let me in." Her blood brimmed with magic. It asked again. "Please let me in." Blue flames burst from the central carving. Eshani staggered backwards but kept her hand firm. The indentations of the doors filled with white light, pouring into each groove into there were none. Morilast's complete door portrait glowed in full, pulsating with the products of divine magic. Eshani held her breath. The lines flickered with every heartbeat, each beat a beat too long. This had to be it, this had to be it. Her eyes flared with impatience.

One shove of the door... Nothing. She shoved a second time. "Damn it!" Her voice echoed through the outer chamber. Why wouldn't the door open? She didn't understand. She read all the tomes, followed all the rituals, and doors stood adamant still. "What more will it take from me get in?" She leaned her forehead against the door, before taking a step back to get a better view. The portrait pulsated still, though its vivacity fading. Was it on account of foreign lineage that it refused her entry, or something else entirely? She glanced at the depths below the bridge, where the shadows danced and masked their secrets. What laid below she did not know. She sent a golden flame along the walls, where it sought purchase in the cold unknown. It faded. The flame slipped through the wall the way an assassin would find a gap. She tried again. In no uncertain terms, it could be either a cavern or a crevice. There would only be one way to find out.

It felt smooth to the touch, a comforting weight to ground her restless fingers. Up ahead, the other candidates performed their rituals. Some painted their runes of blessing and fortune with an artist's fluency, others with a wavering stutter of hand. From the others bled fire, wind and light, conjuring products of their hard-earned control. She witnessed the wind play the fiddle, and a crackling lightning show above the masses. Xin sits in his chair, relaxed, as if he’s not about to show his last play in all of its implications.

In any other situation, even he wouldn't dare to make such a grand request. The wheels that govern life are forever turning, though, molding each moment differently. So why not try to seize an opportunity when it presents itself ?

It did occur to me, yes that babyhood is a good time to demand boundless love not because you are helpless but because you are harmless. This was at Duval and 38th right after someone honked at me because the light was green and had been for some time. I was on my bike, trying to grow back into something I had grown out of, like a hermit crab rewound. Did you know those little guys get in a line according to size so they can move into a shell that fits in quick succession and minimize the time they are exposed and homeless? I watched a video of this narrated by David Attenborough—they form an orderly queue for the exchange. Remarkable. But in this video one latecomer muscles his way in and steals the last crab’s shell. Remarkable. I mean the hate I feel. Do you know what color the light has been in my life, generally? You know already that I did not really turn around and say this to the teenager in the car. You do not need to be told how little happened.

We Made It! - Athens, Greece

Our trip to Europe has officially begun! We flew out of Denver at 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning (40 minutes behind schedule). Doug surprised me with first-class seats from Denver to Dulles! What a fun surprise and having the extra space and attention was a wonderful way to start our trip.

Hanging out in first class - even though our seats faced the back of the plane, we were both extremely comfortable and the food and drinks were great. We arrived in Dulles around 4:30 p.m. - just in time to board our flight to Athens. We were seated in business class - in awesome pods that allowed us to fully recline and sleep on our 9-hour flight. Funny story from our flight - Doug had a different meal than I did and it came with a salad of some sort that we couldn’t really identify. Doug said that it “looked like fish” (horrors!), but when he tasted it he said “tastes just like chicken”. This made both of us laugh, because that is what people say all the time to Doug when they are trying to get him to eat fish! Still not sure what it was, but it passed Doug’s anti-fish tasting test! We had a great flight, had a wonderful glass of Greek wine with our dinner, managed to sleep a fair amount, and we arrived early in Athens.

Once we disembarked from the plane, we were funneled into the non-EU passport line - it was like a queue for Disney! There were easily 300 people in line and they wound us all around for about 30-40 minutes, until a nice gentleman directed us to a window and we received our passport stamp. We were officially in Europe!

We took care of a little business inside the airport - finding a WC, getting euros at an ATM, and trying to get Doug’s e-sim card working on his phone. We were successful in 2 of the 3 endeavors. Unfortunately, we were not able to get his e-sim card working - this meant that we would not have the ability to get directions to our Airbnb, but we did have a general idea of where we needed to go. So we exited the airport terminal, which took us a few minutes to find a way out. We finally saw another person walk through these opaque sliding doors next to an exit sign - we quickly followed them. As we walked through the doors, we had to make an immediate right turn, which brought us to an abrupt halt - as we came face-to-face with a bunch of people looking directly at us, holding signs and yelling names! Took us a minute to get our bearings and realize that these were people waiting to meet and pick people up for rides. It kind of scared us a bit, it was a little overwhelming! We got past the throng and looked for signs for public bus transportation. We wandered around outside the terminal for a few minutes, no luck finding a kiosk to buy a bus ticket. We went back inside and found an English-speaking person, who was able to send us in the right direction. We approached the kiosk to buy our tickets, the guy selling the tickets was very engaging. He joked around with Doug, asking him if he was sure the it was 2 tickets he wanted and then asked us where we were from - it was kind of nice to find someone who actually would smile and talk to us. We noticed that most people do not make eye contact or smile - fairly different from what we are use to. We successfully got on the right bus, sent a message to our Airbnb hosts (before leaving the airport, as we had no data service on Doug’s phone, yet), and then managed to get off at the right bus stop!

When we got off the bus, we started to look for street signs - uh oh! All the street signs were only in Greek - which was a problem. We wandered in the direction that we thought was correct, but after a couple of blocks we realized that we should ask for help. We found a gentleman and explained where we needed to go and he pointed us in the right direction. We realized we were in the right spot when we looked up and saw a lady waving to us from a balcony 9 floors up - our Airbnb host, Monique! We found it! After a quick tour of the apartment, Monique and Jannis, our hosts, said good-bye and handed over the keys. We unpacked and went for a walk to the grocery store - just a couple of streets away.

So, I think I mentioned that we are on the 9th floor of our building. Fortunately, there is a lift, but it is very tiny (3 people max, supposedly). First time we rode up in it we were a little worried. However, it seems to work just fine and we are happy not to have to climb up 9 floors!

We managed to find what we wanted for dinner and breakfast, but when we went to the checkout we found out that we had messed up. Luckily, there was an English-speaking person in another line and she told us that we had to go back to the produce section and have the person there weigh our produce and put a price on it. Oops! We are smarter now! On our way back to the apartment, we came across a little wine shop....we will have to visit that place on another day (as we had purchase a bottle already at the grocery store). We made it back to the apartment, opened a bottle of wine and fixed some snacks to enjoy out on our beautiful balcony that overlooks the Aegean Sea. Life is good!

22. One feature not in-game that you'd love to see?

Cheating, I'm giving you two because I wrote a big paragraph about one and then there's also: I'd kill for a playable tech-based sword wielding-class. The fact that only my Force users can use the cool swords and whatnot, but at the expense of robbing them of lightsabers while there's npcs running around swinging vibroswords is a bit of a crime, tbh.

Anyway, it'd be fucking awesome and I'd actually give Tyr a second combat style for it because I think that'd be so hot for him. How much I'd actually play it instead of Operative is maybe a different story because I'm a little stealth princess, but hey, we're talking about options here, lol.

Anyway, on a slightly more... fleshed out note? This gets long quickly, let me put a cut here.

SO. Okay, this may exist and I’m just blind to it because I don’t generally do group or raid content of any kind [hamster peace sign meme here], but FFXIV has something called Party Finder which is sort of… if a group finder and a message board? It’s got sections for dungeons [standard 4 person party composition], trials [8 players], alliances [24 player encounters], etc. XIV players generally use this to build parties for current, on-level higher difficulty content such as extremes or savage raids rather than using the random matchmaker ie group finder equivalent that'd just pitch you into a queue, but it can also be used to form ‘premade’ groups to clear older content either synced [level/abilities adjusted back to release-era] or to overlevel the ever-loving shit out of some poor lvl 60 or 70 boss and just take their lunch money.

It’s a really nice system to even know what content is out there and has several filters/status settings for party conditions like syncing or priorities (are you looking for a learning party focused on clearing at all or doing several preferably quick, clean kills in succession for looting purposes, etc) and you can search by roles/jobs in need. In XIV, I’ve cleared most of the higher difficulty content I’ve seen via Party Finder groups; not all friends want to do the same content/same level of content at the same time, schedules don’t line up, etc., or guilds/free companies just be intimidating, lol. Never fear! Party Finder is here.

Something about the systemic nature of it makes it less intimidating in my brain, too, than like, random shouts on the fleet or whatever to fill groups. Probably the added context of party descriptions and objective labels. If you don't get what they put on the tin, then someone labeled their party finder incorrectly, but it's meant to give you an idea of what you're getting into before you commit and we do love to see that.

26. Weapon of choice?

I agonized over this one, lol. Picking just one was a tricky endeavor because I've fallen into the rabbit hole of personalizing sets down to weapons for different characters, so I have a handful of favorites I've nominated for mention.

I recently got the Frontiersman's Blaster Rifle for Len (I've been eyeing it for probably a month trying to figure out who/which outfit to put it on), Rhyst's most prominent is probably the Inscrutable Dualsaber with... I think a smoky amber color crystal? Oli has the EE-2 Blaster Pistol (I like the blue lights). Nikihlus has the Zakuulan Exile's Sniper Rifle, possibly with a red color crystal, I don't remember if I modded it at all, but the extra shing of the blade attachment when you draw it is everything to me. Annnd Barreth, one of my Consulars, got Vengeance's Unsealed Lightsaber that I have her wield a pair of with a green indestructible crystal.

39. Single saber, twin sabers, or dual sabers?

Hmmm… contextualized as in like, what combat style I prefer, I actually… really like Juggernaut more than Marauder?

Anyway, my OG Consular has a dualsaber and I’ll live and die by the fact that dualsabers kick ass. They’re so cool. Particularly when [maybe cheating] you can, like, detach them and now you have TWO laser swords? [I made his second combat style Sentinel to appease the brain goblins about this.] Adaptability. Cool rating. Really beautiful designs.

Also because Shadows and Assassins have stealth and I am, again, a pretty, pretty stealth princess. Bonus objectives for slaughtering rows and rows of enemies? Don’t know her.

43. Favorite operation?

I've yet to actually do operations because I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat. I know, doesn't translate when I've done 8 man extremes with glee in FFXIV, but I have definitely backed off raiding and gearing related grinds since being in college. They can be pretty involved and I just do not always have the spoons left over to get into performance like that.

I've enjoyed it in XIV though, so I'd be down for giving it a whirl sometime, maybe over the summer when I won't have classes. Work and class schedules kinda also limit my time, so it's a bit intimidating to commit to progression schedules within everything.

46. What do you think of the world events so far?

Oscillating between the interpretation of “what in-game events do you like” and “what do you think of the story,” but I think the latter is more fun and has more meat on the bone.

So! First of all, I am absolutely a story gremlin. I absolutely got into SWTOR primarily for the story and whatever it is or isn’t as a MMO is whatever it is or isn’t. That said, I don’t know why I didn’t expect it to grip me and sink into any little porous opening in my being that it could find, but I’ve been playing for over a year now and it has… done that. I think it’s safe to say that it’s taken over as my primary gaming choice by now, lol.

I have my least favorites among the class stories, for sure, but I’d agree with the consensus that, generally, they’re all good. They’re all good at something. Whatever I dislike about them is more-so down to personal tastes and preferences than jarring faults in the story.

And it’s definitely my favorite way to engage with Star Wars. I was never particularly in to Star Wars - I could enjoy it, I could leave it. I have bones to pick with its consistent dedication to binary and that’s a gripe I could agree with even inside of SWTOR. But I do love the way SWTOR engages with the universe - allows me to engage with the universe. Several of the class stories are not what I’d define as the general fare of Star Wars, or there’s ways to play them that inverse, twist, or otherwise do something cool with something that the movies might not have - that wasn’t the story the movies wanted to tell or what have you.

Trying to pin down the timeline hurts my brain. I hate math as a general rule and I dislike trying to riddle out certainties from conflicting or non-existent information when it comes to timelines, lol, but that’s not a uniquely SWTOR problem. xD

Ultimately, I started playing for the story - I’m still here because I’m invested in the story. I’m invested in my characters and the npcs and companions in a way I fell in love with in my first Bioware experiences in Dragon Age and Mass Effect. The dialogue options - particularly those that are voiced - add such. Chef’s kiss, y’know? It’s a whole different way to engage with a game  and really be a part of it when I can reflect a character’s way of thinking inside of a game like that.

Star Wars as a whole has always been a sort of odd relationship for me in that I have plenty of bigger gripes with what it does or how it does overall, but the universe is full of such potential. I still love some of the potential, some of the pieces of it. I am eager to see what comes of the saboteur options that started with Jedi Under Siege - my main being an Imperial Agent that took the SIS route definitely factors into that, lol.

Something about how the story is set up and how it plays has just… really got me. To describe it kind of feels almost diminishing and it’s difficult, but, in short, I guess I’ve loved the way I can engage with it and the way I can return to it. The many, many possibilities packed into just the class stories alone is so much to explore and it’s so, so fun to get into a character’s headspace and really figure out how that affects everything they see and take forward with them into the expansion content. It’s changes and nuance I can reflect as well as expand upon in writing or headcanons or what have you and it’s just… been a whole lot of fun. Whatever does come of it, I think I’ve found another one of those pieces of media, the kind of ocs that’ll stick with me for years to come and that will always be some part of me and what brings me joy to remember.

Anyway: my favorite of the in-game events that I’ve done so far is Bounty Contracts Week. I have fun with the intro and it’s a nice simple daily rotation.

Love doesn’t fix everything, sometimes love means work, means not getting to have the person you want all the time, but that’s not bad. It just is.

What Remains - Sam/Dean, Supernatural - Yes it’s wincest. I like to joke that I hop from fandom to fandom writing one magnum opus in each and maybe a scattering of little ficlets and this one is probably the opus of my opuses. (The latin got away from me, whatever.) 

In Jefferson, Texas a man ends a generations-old curse and saves all the town's children, but completely loses his memory in the process. When it's discovered that he's a wanted criminal, the town comes together to conceal him out of gratitude for what he's done for them, giving him an apartment, a job and a whole new life. It takes seven months for Sam to find Dean, and when he finally does, he has to adapt to being around a man who has no idea that he used to be Sam's brother.

For a Single Yesterday - Shepard/Kaidan, Mass Effect - sometimes you just have to write a fic that literally makes you cry the whole way through, even as you’re writing it, and that is this one for me. It was cathartic and painful and exactly like I wanted it to end up, and now I never have to read it again, heh. 

“You have to be fine,” he says, but doesn’t put in the message. He sticks it in the outgoing queue. No hails from Shepard before they’d escaped the local cluster. No telling exactly what that wave of green energy had done, if there had even been any ships able to go back and look for him.

Not knowing anything is the most frustrating thing of all.

There’s no telling how long it’ll be before they’re connected to any kind of network again, if ever. Maybe he’ll die of old age on this planet while Shepard searches the galaxy for them. At least Shepard would have survived to search.

The Rest Is Silence - OMC/OMC, Lord of the Rings - I knew even as I was writing this one that it wouldn’t be a crowd favorite because it has no one in it that anyone will recognize, but my first forays into fandom were all RPS and this was the first time I’d tried to match the tone of a published work of fiction and while I don’t think, looking back, that I was necessarily 100% successful, I really still love how this one came out. 

It’s the quiet he remembers most. The long hours spent looking off at distant Gondor, the silent beacon of Amon Din towering above him.

And y’all I’ll be perfectly honest, I’m struggling to pick a fifth one. Like the rest of them are FINE, I guess? The one I would pick, I think, doesn’t exist on the internet anymore because it was RPF and one half of the pairing turned out to be a huge asshole who sexually assaults women, so I deleted it. But I was really proud of it at the time, and it did something cool with structure that I was really proud of having pulled off, and one of the lines at the end lives rent free in my head to this day.

#2 The storm before the calm.

Let’s be honest, after spending 2.5 hours moving through immigration (where the line I happened to queue within, out of the 16 available, then had two other queues merge into it) with 1000 other people in very little air conditioning, and then catching a taxi through a city of 15 million people with about 8 million motor bikes, by the time I arrived at the hostel, I was questioning what the hell I had got myself into! However, to be expecting a shared room with bunk beds and get a private double with ensuite was absolute bliss!

This morning, I was apprehensive. I don’t really know if solo travel is brave, naive or courageous.. I think the three hold little difference to be honest. But as an olive skinned, blonde haired human wearing a backpack in Ho Chi Minh City - there was no need to tattoo tourist to my forehead, it was obvious. And at least for me, it was nerve wracking to step out into a city I’d never been, with people who speak little English and a sensory overload you’re not quite used to. I’ll forever hold a gratitude that I do have a sense of direction and can generally find my bearings pretty well, that and the idea that no matter the internal worries I hold, I’m generally pretty able to just push on and see how things go. The first mission, was quite literally as simple as crossing the street. I determined that the strategy in a city with very intriguing road laws, is to just walking confidently like you know what you’re doing and cross as quick as you can, that or ghost a local who actually knows what their doing. 100% success rate so far. I wandered down to the Ben Thai Markets where the countless aisles of food, clothing and fashion stalls were present. To be honest, the conversion on the Vietnamese dong still has me. 200,000 dong is about $20, but having a note worth 1,000,000 dong just feels very strange! From here I had an authentic coffee, and went full tourist mode on an hop on hop off bus. It weaved its way through the streets to the financial district and I saw; the People’s Council, The City Hall, Post Office and Notre Damn. It was a beautiful area with grand buildings and wandering the area was great. I also had lunch at an apartment building of cafes.. it was very cool with pretty views too. After lunch, the confidence was building and I was starting to embrace the hustle and bustle of it all. Though in 36 degrees with the element of humidity, it was hot! Fortunately, I’ve learnt from the 2022 Greece sunburn saga, and I’ve been plenty SunSmart and consumed lots of water #goals. A little late arvo rest before I meet my tour group tonight and begin two weeks of exploring the east coast! You are beautiful Ho Chi Minh! Even if my body senses may never feel calm whilst I’m here!
