Pumham. Sachem of Showhomett Pumhomm.
Sachem at Shawomet, or so-called “Warwick, Rhode Island,” Pumham had an interesting and well documented relationship with both English colonizers and Narragansett relatives. Settlers in Warwick tried to arrest Pumham for an insurrection attempt in 1659 and later moved to expel Pumham from Shawomet altogether, in 1667. Pumham refused to leave and would remain in Shawomet until he was killed by settlers in July of 1676 while fighting with Pometacom in King Philip’s War.
In this document, Pomham signs as witness to a transfer of land “lyinge uppon the west syde of that part of the sea called Sowhanes Bay, from Copassanatuxett, over against a little island in the sayd bay, being the north bounds, and the outmost point that neck of land called Shawhomet…” signed by Miantonomo.
Their kin: at least two sons, one named Cheesechamut.

As per the new usual, the Doctor found herself waking up snug as a bug beneath two wonderfully-warm bodies. For all the outfits she’d burnt holes through, she would have expected Skyfire to be constantly setting the bed on fire, but apparently she’d had enough experience to control herself under those conditions. The Doctor and Angelina both were quite grateful for that.
Speaking of Angelina, she stirred as the Doctor began trying to untangle herself. “Mmm...I’ll start a pot in a minute.”
“Take your time,” the Doctor smiled, patting her on the back. “Amiya’s covering the office today, so we’re not gonna be busy today.”
“Yay.” With this new information, Angie let her off the bed on her side and immediately crawled over to Skyfire, who even fast asleep somehow knew to wrap her arms around her. They were an adorable couple, and the Doctor thought herself very lucky to be their third.
It was a funny story, actually. Angelina and Skyfire had started dating sometime after the Doctor had come back, and while she’d been aware of that, she hadn’t realized just how serious things had gotten until they submitted a request to move in together. After talking with them individually, she’d decided to give them the all-clear, and for a couple months there was nothing to report except they were doing quite well.
Until, of course, the day they asked her to try a threesome with them.
It had already been a bit of a strange day when Skyfire showed up at the Doctor’s office; all the squads were home, the problem children were staying quiet, the cafeteria had served something the Doctor not only liked but actually gotten seconds of...As relaxing as it was, it meant she had nothing to do, so any distraction would be a welcome one. Skyfire, as it turned out, volunteered herself as she walked into the office smelling of smoke. “Good afternoon, Doctor. Staying busy, I hope?”
“I wish,” she sighed. “There’s nothing going on today that needs my attention, so right now, you can have all of it. How can I help you?”
“I actually came here to help you- or, rather, to make you an offer-”
At that point, Angelina burst into the room. “Hey, Doct- Sky?”
“Angie?” The Doctor was momentarily forgotten. “I came to ask the Doctor about that thing we talked about.”
“Oh! I did, too! Well, what do you think, Doctor?”
She smiled. “Skyfire didn’t get a chance to finish yet.”
“Oh! Can I ask her, then?” Angelina was hovering slightly off the ground. “I mean, I know you suggested it, but-”
“Go ahead, I won’t stop you.” Sky rolled her eyes, albeit with a smile.
The courier floated over to the Doctor’s desk. “Doctor, will you have a threesome with us? At least once?”
“...Huh?” She glanced from one brunette to the other. “I mean, I don’t have a reason not to, but I would like to know why I’m being blessed like this.”
“We both think you’re hot, and you don’t have any public relationships,” Skyfire shrugged.
Angie swooped down and lifted the Doctor out of her chair. “Besides, you do so much for Rhodes Island that just having one person to support you just doesn’t seem like it’d be enough. Even if it turns out you don’t enjoy tonight, we still want to be there for you.”
“That’s really sweet of you.” She hugged Angelina mid-air. “Send me over to Sky; I’m not letting her go without a hug.”
“You’ll get more than a hug tonight,” the pyromancer mumbled as she accepted the incoming embrace.
Angie pumped her fist and cheered. “Alright, I’ve got to finish my runs, but this is exciting! See you tonight, babes!”
“Was that plural?” The Doctor wondered aloud as she floated out the door. “Or was she talking to you?”
“I think she meant the plural...Anyway, you know where to find us, so I should probably get going.”
The Doctor pouted. “Do you have to? I still don’t have any work I need to take care of.”
“As much as I’d love to, I do have something to finish before tonight.” After thinking about it for a moment, Skyfire quickly kissed her and made for the door before she could react. “Thank you!”
“No problem...” She watched her dash out of the office before closing the door and licking the transferred gloss off her lips.
After work, the Doctor changed into something easier to slip out of and walked to the couple’s apartment, more than a little nervous. Being sandwiched between them sounded like heaven to her, but it seemed like a rather delicate balancing act, and she’d never been particularly light on her feet.
That first night, however, was enough to push away any doubts she’d had - rather, the first morning after, waking up in a tangle with Angelina’s hair in her face and Sky’s head on her chest, convinced her to come back again...and again...and again. There was one night Angie had to work late, leaving the Doctor and Sky alone together, and that was special in its own way, and a week later when Skyfire had to leave for a conference with King’s Wand, that proved just as amazing, so the day after, the pyromancer returned to find the Doctor finishing moving her stuff from her single dorm to theirs.
Which brought the Doctor back to the weekend ahead of them. She’d have to wait for them to wake up, of course, but she wondered if maybe this would be a good day to ask them about their plans for the future. After all, if things stayed like this, it would be nice to know what they thought about kids...She turned on the water in the shower to give it time to warm up.
The sound of bare feet running across the floor to join her in the bathroom nearly made her laugh out loud.

Peach (or Nectarine) Galette
At the end of every September I buy a bushel of Rhode Island Greening apples and bake at least a dozen pies over the course of a few days. It's a ritual for me, as constant as making mujadarah for my annual break-the-fast or makfrying latkes on Hanukkah.
But right now, it's the height of stone-fruit season and I bought so many peaches and nectarines! Way too many to have just as a snack. So of course I could make pies.
But I don't feel like baking pies.
I might make a crisp or two. Or maybe some chutney or barbecue sauce. Maybe make a roasted dessert or soaked fruit for weekend company.
Or maybe a pie-like but much easier galette. Yep, that's it!
Nectarine or Peach Galette
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
8 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks
2 tablespoons cold vegetable shortening
6 tablespoons milk
4 cups sliced nectarines or peeled peaches
6 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons sugar
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
For the crust: mix the flour, sugar, salt and lemon peel together in a bowl or food processor. Add the butter and shortening and cut the fat into the flour mixture with your hands or a pastry blender or by processing on pulse until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Add 5 tablespoons milk and mix to form a soft dough. Flatten the dough into a disk, wrap and let rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough on a lightly floured board into a circle about 14-inches in diameter (about 1/8-inch thick) and transfer the circle to the prepared baking sheet.
For the filling: slice the fruit into a large bowl. Add 6 tablespoons of the sugar, salt, lemon juice and flour and toss the ingredients to completely coat the fruit. Place the fruit on top of the dough circle, leaving a border of about 1-1/2-inches. Fold the dough over the fruit but not completely; leave a circle of fruit showing, about 7-8-inches. Pleat the dough to give it a rustic look. Brush the dough with the remaining tablespoon milk. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 teaspoons sugar. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Let cool for at least 15 minutes. Best when served warm.
Makes 8 servings

Tina Cohen-Chang
Faceclaim: Jenna Ushkowitz. Age: 26 years old. Birthday: 11th November, 1992. Hometown: Sacramento, California. Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Current Occupation:  Night shift Vet in the Pure Paws Animal Hospital. Aspirations: To work at a vet clinic in Long Island while living in a brownstone with her loving partner in a stable relationship. Pets: Currently fostering two domestic short hair kittens named Selina and Kyle.
Qualifications: - BS in chemistry, with a minor in dance from Brown University - DVM from Cornell University focusing on domestic animals
Biography: Her entire life, Tina couldn’t help but feel that she was playing the supporting role in another person’s story. Adopted by Daniel and Grace Cohen Chang when she was a toddler, she became a source of inspiration to her seven year old sister, community praise for her parents, and a means of bringing the family closer together. As she got older, the attention and subsequent pressure became overwhelming to her already shy nature, and in fifth grade she began faking a stutter in order to be excused from the spotlight directly. This ruse allowed her to keep to herself for years, but when she entered high school and her sister left for college, her own loneliness got the best of her, pushing Tina to emerge from her shell and become more active. She joined show choir, theater, the academic decathlon, and prom committee, making new friends and dropping the stutter.
Despite her hard work and talent, though, Tina often felt overshadowed.  She got top grades in school, but her friend was a math prodigy.  She thought rationally and made good points, but it was her teammate’s passionate speech that moved others to make the same decision.  Her loyalty to her teams never wavered, but she’d still the lead solos and roles to the more temperamental Broadway Diva until she graduated, and then the dramatic but charming transfer student.  Flash and pizzazz just wasn’t who she was.
Her love life was just as awkward, to be honest. Tina somehow managed to pick all of the wrong guys: guys that were a little rough around the edges, but essentially good-hearted…and then would reveal that they were actually in love with someone else (or gay). It wasn’t her fault– “she was great”– but it wasn’t meant to be.  She was always essentially someone’s romantic false lead, a stepping stone on their way to a happily ever after.
All of this culminated in Tina applying to numerous schools as far from Sacramento as possible. Her excellent grades and numerous extra-curriculars got her into the Ivy Leagues. She packed her bags and headed to Brown University in Rhode Island, where being away from what she had once been gave her a new lease on life. Being appreciated for what she was, Tina gained more confidence and certainty in what she wanted in life.  She found her passion in animal care, and after graduating cum laud went on to Cornell University to get her DVM, settling on domestic pets.
Fresh out of vet school, Tina looked over her multiple job offers before settling on a lower-paying position as an emergency room vet that would allow her to stay in New York and keep living the big city life to the fullest.
Headcannons:
Tina fosters at least two cats at any given time from nearby shelters, strongly preferring them to dogs.
She takes time to visit her family for as many holidays as she can manage, but keeps the visits short in order to keep from being pulled back to her younger self’s headspace.  Most of the family’s communication is done via email and telephone.  Tina loves her family completely though, and knows that they’re proud of everything she’s done.
Tina tends to fall in love hard and fast, despite being fully aware that it usually ends in disaster.  She has a tattoo of a high school boyfriend’s name on her hip (which she had adjusted after they broke up), has lived with one boyfriend during college, and was engaged to another.
While Tina is much stronger and more assertive than she used to be, she still often lets herself get pushed around for the sake of helping others.  However she can only keep everything in for so long, and eventually she’ll just explode, taking out her frustrations at anyone within a five-mile radius, and sheepishly having to help mend bridges afterwards…her communication skills are a work in progress.
Tina loves performing.  In high school she was often relegated to small parts in show choir, and understudy in school productions including West Side Story, Les Miserables, and Grease.  In college, however, she snagged the role of Heather Duke in Heathers and Dawn in Waitress.  She also managed to shine while minoring in dance, performing tap and jazz pieces and leading the school’s Ballroom Dance Team.  She still loves it, and makes time to perform at karaoke bars and open mic nights, as well as teaching dance classes at Hartley House twice a month.
She learned piano, but she’s not amazing at it.  She enjoys playing jazz, but she won’t play in public.  The most advanced piece she’ll perform in front of others is “Heart and Soul”.
She loves to cook, but is absolutely horrible at it.  Tina has set off the smoke alarm in the building multiple times in the small space that she’s lived here, and most of her refrigerator is filled with take-out, since her own efforts are inedible (but not Chinese food, which she hates).
Tina is great with fabrics: before she began performing, she helped behind the scene with costuming, and still does her own alterations today.  She also helps out at Hartley House with their clubs’ costuming needs.
During high school, Tina went through a Goth phase, in which she created many of her own outfits.  However, thanks to Twilight, she was often mistaken for Vampire.  This led to Tina’s subsequent Anti-Goth Phase, and while she’s calmed down significantly over the years, she will still gleefully tear apart Anne Rice, Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, or any similar series if goaded.  She does, however, enjoy Lost Boys and Mel Brooks’ Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
Tina loves John Mulaney, Game of Thrones, Nailed It!, and 80’s movies.
Favourite Song: "How Far I’ll Go” Auli'i Cravalho, Moana. Favourite Quote: “I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete.  It’s so fucking heroic."  George Carlin.

Space challenges for President Biden: Four issues for the next four years
As Joe Biden begins the first year of his presidency, there is still much we don’t know about where he and his vice president, Kamala Harris, stand on major issues in civil and national security space. The pandemic and economic recovery are sure to drive Biden’s initial agenda.
There are, nonetheless, several key space issues the new administration will have to address. NASA’s Artemis program is now unlikely to meet its 2024 human landing goal, giving the administration the opportunity to revisit the program while enhancing the agency’s Earth science work. The growing population of satellites and debris may lead the administration to reexamine the Trump administration’s approach to civil space traffic management. The Space Force will continue to mature but faces growing pains. The Pentagon will also finish programs, from new launch vehicles to LEO constellations, started under the Trump administration.

The future of Artemis
Ever since Biden won the presidential election in November, the space industry has speculated what his administration will mean for NASA’s Artemis program to return humans to the moon in 2024. The Democratic Party platform in August endorsed in general terms “NASA’s work to return Americans to the moon,” but made no mention of either retaining or changing the 2024 goal.
That decision may already have been made for him. In December, Congress passed a fiscal year 2021 spending bill that included $850 million for NASA’s Human Landing System (HLS) program, just a quarter of what the agency requested. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine had warned for months that keeping a 2024 human landing on schedule would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, without full funding for HLS.
There was, even before Congress passed the bill, widespread skepticism that a 2024 landing was feasible. “It was a long shot to begin with,” said Gwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX, shortly after the election. She speculated that the new administration would defer a human lunar landing to “slightly later than 2024.”
A new approach might look something like what NASA was pursuing in the first half of the Trump administration, when it was focused on first building out the lunar Gateway, followed by human lunar landings around 2028. NASA has continued to make agreements with Canada, Europe and Japan on elements of the Gateway, so broader changes to human spaceflight plans that do away with the Gateway could be geopolitically costly for the Biden administration.
NASA may have to make decisions on the future of Artemis soon, perhaps before a new administrator is in place. The three companies that received HLS contracts last year — Blue Origin, Dynetics and SpaceX — are waiting on NASA to select who will proceed into full development. The agency previously said it would make decisions in the spring, but both the limited funding and the change in administrations could alter those plans.
At the same time, the Biden administration is widely expected to put greater resources into Earth science programs at NASA, as part of a broader emphasis on climate change. The party platform called for “strengthening” NASA and NOAA Earth observation missions “to better understand how climate change is impacting our home planet.”
That could create opportunities not just for Earth scientists but developers of spacecraft and related technologies. “With the administration’s planned focus on climate change, we expect growth in spacecraft and information systems related to understanding weather and climate change,” Eileen Drake, president and chief executive of Aerojet Rocketdyne, said at the AIAA SciTech Forum Jan. 11.
Exactly what form that new emphasis on Earth science will take is not yet clear. NASA already has a lengthy list of recommended missions from the previous Earth science decadal survey published in 2018 but has been slow to implement them because of limited budgets. Additional funding could accelerate those missions and feed into a broader climate change initiative.
Some have bolder expectations. “Managing the Earth’s ability to sustain human life and biodiversity will likely, in my view, dominate a civil space agenda for a Biden-Harris administration,” said Lori Garver, NASA deputy administrator during the Obama administration, shortly after the election.
However that climate change initiative develops, it likely means that boots on the moon will have to wait.
While the incoming administration has offered no hints of its views on the subject, there is nothing that would stop it from moving civil space traffic management to the FAA or authorizing the Commerce Department to perform STM, making it easy for the White House to change its mind. Space traffic management
At the end of the Obama administration four years ago, the outlines of a civil space traffic management (STM) system were beginning to take shape. The Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation was starting preparations to take on that work from the U.S. Air Force after a consensus by the White House and other government agencies that it was the best agency for the job.
That changed in June 2018, when the Trump administration issued Space Policy Directive 3 on civil STM. The administration directed the Air Force to transition civil STM activities to the Commerce Department, specifically its Office of Space Commerce. It concluded that the office could take on space traffic management, freeing up the FAA to oversee increasing commercial launch activity.
Two and a half years later, the office was finally ready to take on that challenge. Congress provided the office with $10 million in the fiscal year 2021 omnibus spending bill in December — less than the $15 million it requested but the first time it received any funding for STM work. Up until then, the Office of Space Commerce was laying the groundwork for STM, including coordination with the Space Force and meetings with industry, but needed funding to hire staff and develop systems.
“Next year will be largely what I’ll call a ‘building block’ year,” Kevin O’Connell, director of the Office of Space Commerce, predicted in October during a 0SpaceNews webinar. If his office got its requested funding, he projected that by the end of 2021 “we will have an initial architecture that is up and running.”
That assumes the Biden administration continues on that path. While the incoming administration has offered no hints of its views on the subject, there is nothing that would stop it from moving civil STM to the FAA or authorizing the Commerce Department to perform space traffic management, making it easy for the White House to change its mind.
However, there is now a consensus in the public and private sector that Commerce is the best place — or, at least, a good enough place — to handle civil STM. A congressionally mandated report by the National Academy of Public Administration, released in August, concluded Commerce was a better agency for civil STM than the FAA, NASA, or Defense Department.
With the growing amount of debris in orbit, along with emergence of megaconstellations like Starlink, most just want the government to move ahead as fast as it can. “In the end, it doesn’t really matter who does it, just that it gets done,” said Chris Kunstadter, global head of space for insurer AXA XL.
Another question will be how much attention Commerce gives to civil STM. Biden’s nominee for Secretary of Commerce, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, hasn’t been involved in space in any way or shown an interest in the subject. However, the same was true for Trump’s nominee, financier Wilbur Ross, who never attended a launch before 2018. Yet he became a vocal advocate for the department’s work on space, including STM.

Next steps for U.S. Space Force
Among the final acts of the Trump administration was a celebration at the White House of the U.S. Space Force’s first anniversary, where Vice President Mike Pence announced the members of the service would be called guardians. The sixth branch of the armed forces was a darling of President Trump and no detail about the Space Force was too trivial to trumpet.
The Space Force will now enter its formative years with bipartisan support in Congress but under a new commander in chief with a different worldview. Biden is not expected to undo his predecessor’s prized achievement, but the Space Force will be lower on the totem pole.
“I don’t think the Space Force is in any danger of going away, but I don’t think it will be politically favored the way it was under Trump,” said David Burbach, associate professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College.
Over the next four years, the Space Force will stay busy building the service. In 2020, more than 2,200 former members of Air Force Space Command formally transferred to the Space Force. Another 3,600 are projected to transfer in 2021. The long-term goal is a Space Force of about 6,000 military members and 8,000 civilians. The service will be standing up a Space Systems Command to oversee acquisitions and plans to build a space intelligence center. The Biden administration later this year will have to provide recommendations to Congress on what space units from the Army and the Navy could be realigned under the Space Force.
More broadly, political appointees and military officials will continue to have to address questions on the Space Force’s role and reason for being.
“There is still a lot of confusion about the role of the Space Force,” said Burbach, noting that he does not speak for the government. Even though the space service’s job is to operate and defend U.S. satellites, “they run commercials showing astronauts going to the moon and exploring other planets. That’s not what the Space Force is going to do. They are not fighting laser battles in space.”
“The primary job for the Space Force right now is really focused on Earth,” said Scott Pace, former executive secretary of the National Space Council, during a recent National Security Space Association webinar. He noted the service has its hands full just carrying out its basic responsibilities to provide space-based services to U.S. military forces and allies.
A criticism often lobbed at the Space Force is that it created an expensive new bureaucracy to do the same work that the Air Force Space Command used to do, with the same people. But critics need to move on, said Deborah Lee James, former secretary of the Air Force during the Obama administration. “It’s not worth the bureaucratic churn to put it back the way it was,” she said last month at the Mitchell Institute’s West Coast Aerospace Forum.
Congress has made similar points and directed the Department of the Air Force and the Space Force to propose by May a revamped space acquisition process, a responsibility that will fall on Biden’s appointees. The fiscal year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act asks for specific recommendations for making space acquisitions move faster, in ways that capture innovations from the private sector.

National security space modernization
During the Trump administration, the Pentagon took important steps to modernize key national security space programs. For now, there is nothing to suggest Biden’s appointees — many of them veterans of the Obama administration — will reverse course on major programs, at least until they have a chance to dig through budgets and submit new proposals.
“We see no reason to think it won’t be full steam ahead,” said Mike Tierney, industry analyst at the defense and space consulting firm Velos. In 2021, “we’re going to get a lot of the same” simply because the incoming leaders are not going to have time to substantially amend Trump’s budgets until their second year in office.
Over the next four years, Biden’s Pentagon will oversee the transition of the National Security Space Launch program to a new phase where SpaceX will have a more prominent role flying military satellites to orbit and longtime incumbent United Launch Alliance will be tested to introduce a new launch vehicle, Vulcan, that the company promised will be ready in 2021. It will fall on the Space Force and the Biden administration to help SpaceX and ULA clear this hurdle and assure Congress the nation has the domestic launch vehicles it needs to reliably deliver critical national security satellites to orbit.
Sometime in 2024, the Space Force will start planning for a new heavy-lift launch competition. Biden’s administration could be in a position to evaluate whether emerging players like Blue Origin, which tried and lost in 2020, can win a spot in Space Force’s stable of launch providers.
Another item on the space agenda is the resiliency — or lack thereof — of U.S. space systems. This has been a much-discussed issue during the Trump administration amid warnings that U.S. satellites are vulnerable to jamming, cyberattacks and threats from anti-satellite weapons.
Former undersecretary of defense for research and engineering Mike Griffin pushed the Pentagon to invest in proliferated low-Earth orbit constellations, like those being built by private companies, to provide resiliency. Under Griffin, the Pentagon stood up the Space Development Agency to take on the design and early development of military systems in LEO. The young agency, which was opposed by the Air Force Association and others, is preparing to launch its first 28 satellites in 2022.
“SDA will get a fresh look,” Tierney said, but there’s no sign that the Biden team will be opposed to it. Once the SDA shows it can deliver on its promise to field a constellation in just two years, he expects it will be seen as the “agile, innovative new arm of the Space Force focused on proliferated LEO.”
The large “exquisite” satellites that have been the bread and butter of Pentagon space programs will not go away even if the SDA’s proliferated systems come to fruition. Under Biden, the Space Force will continue to acquire multibillion-dollar systems for missile warning, secure communications, and navigation. But there will also be parallel efforts to diversify the space architecture and use cheaper, smaller platforms as the private sector continues to drive down the cost of satellites and launch.
How the military leverages commercial space technology for national security will remain an issue over the next four years. A recent Aerospace Corp. space policy paper aimed at the Biden administration noted that the “increasing commercialization of space is presenting new opportunities for national security acquisition.” A trend to watch will be whether U.S. intelligence and defense agencies begin to seriously consider alternatives to the traditional model of hiring contractors to develop bespoke capabilities.

Why Remove or Impeach Trump Now?
Tumblr media
WASHINGTON — The House on Wednesday impeached President Trump for a second time, a first in American history, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” one week after he egged on a mob of supporters that stormed the Capitol while Congress met to formalize President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory.
Democrats have moved swiftly to impeach Mr. Trump after the assault, which unfolded after he told supporters at a rally near the National Mall to march on the Capitol in an effort to get Republicans to overturn his defeat. At least five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died during the siege and in the immediate aftermath.
The process is taking place with extraordinary speed and testing the bounds of the impeachment process, raising questions never contemplated before. Here’s what we know.
Impeachment is one of the Constitution’s gravest penalties.
Impeachment is one of the weightiest tools the Constitution gives Congress to hold government officials, including the president, accountable for misconduct and abuse of power.
Members of the House consider whether to impeach the president — the equivalent of an indictment in a criminal case — and members of the Senate consider whether to remove him, holding a trial in which senators act as the jury. The test, as set by the Constitution, is whether the president has committed “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
The House vote requires only a simple majority of lawmakers to agree that the president has, in fact, committed high crimes and misdemeanors; the Senate vote requires a two-thirds majority.
The charge against Trump is ‘incitement of insurrection.’
The article, drafted by Representatives David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Ted Lieu of California, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Jerrold Nadler of New York, charged Mr. Trump with “incitement of insurrection,” saying he is guilty of “inciting violence against the government of the United States.”
The article cited Mr. Trump’s weekslong campaign to falsely discredit the results of the November election, and it quotes directly from the speech he gave on the day of the siege in which he told his supporters to go to the Capitol. “If you don’t fight like hell,” he said, “you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
Proponents say impeachment is worthwhile even though Trump has only days left in office.
While the House moved with remarkable speed to impeach Mr. Trump, the Senate trial to determine whether to remove him cannot begin until Jan. 19, his final full day in office. That means any conviction would almost certainly not be completed until after he leaves the White House.
Democrats have argued that Mr. Trump’s offense — using his power as the nation’s leader and commander in chief to incite an insurrection against the legislative branch — is so grave that it must be addressed, even with just a few days remaining in his term. To let it go unpunished, Democrats argued, would set a dangerous precedent of impunity for future presidents.
Updated
Jan. 13, 2021, 9:42 p.m. ET
“Is there little time left?” Representative Steny H. Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland and the majority leader, said during the debate. “Yes. But it is never too late to do the right thing.”
Republicans, many of whom voted to overturn the election results, have claimed that going through the impeachment process so late in Mr. Trump’s term will foster unnecessary division and that the country should move on from last week’s siege.
The biggest consequence for Trump could be disqualifying him from holding office again.
Conviction in an impeachment trial would not automatically disqualify Mr. Trump from future public office. But if the Senate were to convict him, the Constitution allows a subsequent vote to bar an official from holding “any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”
That vote would require only a simple majority of senators. Such a step could be an appealing prospect not just to Democrats, but also to many Republicans who either have set their sights on the presidency themselves or are convinced that it is the only thing that will purge Mr. Trump from their party. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, is said to hold the latter view.
There is no precedent, however, for disqualifying a president from future office, and the issue could end up before the Supreme Court.
The Senate trial won’t start until after Biden becomes president.
Democrats who control the House can choose when to send their article of impeachment to the Senate, at which point that chamber would have to immediately move to begin the trial. But because the Senate is not scheduled to hold a regular session until Jan. 19, even if the House immediately transmitted the charge to the other side of the Capitol, an agreement between Senate Republican and Democratic leaders would be needed to take it up before then.
Mr. McConnell said on Wednesday that he would not agree to do so, meaning that the article could not be taken up until the day before Mr. Biden is sworn in. Since time is needed for the Senate to set the rules for an impeachment trial, that means the proceeding probably would not start until after Mr. Biden was president, and Democrats had operational control of the Senate.
“Given the rules, procedures, and Senate precedents that govern presidential impeachment trials, there is simply no chance that a fair or serious trial could conclude before President-elect Biden is sworn in next week,” Mr. McConnell said. “In light of this reality, I believe it will best serve our nation if Congress and the executive branch spend the next seven days completely focused on facilitating a safe inauguration and an orderly transfer of power to the incoming Biden administration.”
The trial could consume the Senate during Biden’s first days in office.
Once the Senate receives the impeachment charge, it must immediately take up the issue, as articles of impeachment carry the highest privilege. Under rules in place for decades, impeachment is the only issue the Senate can consider while a trial is underway; it cannot simultaneously consider other legislative business.
But Mr. Biden has asked Mr. McConnell whether it would be possible to alter that rule, allowing the Senate to conduct Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial on a parallel track to consideration of his cabinet nominees, splitting its days between the two. Mr. McConnell told Mr. Biden he would consult with the Senate parliamentarian on whether that would be possible.
If such a bifurcated process were not possible, House Democrats might choose to hold back the article to allow Mr. Biden time to win confirmation of his team before a trial got underway.
The Senate could hold a trial for Mr. Trump even after he has left office, though there is no precedent for a president being tried after his term is over. Other government officials who were impeached have been tried after they departed.
Only two presidents other than Mr. Trump have been impeached — Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 — and both were ultimately acquitted and completed their terms in office.

Downeast drive on I-95
Hi everyone We have to say goodbye to family in Bangor and then head south for the final stop of Summer 2010.  A nice dinner of scrod awaits at the North Quincy Market.
It was the day after Independence Day.  I woke up about 7:30 AM and met family to have breakfast.  The breakfast room was full of children with their families.  Breakfast was not very enjoyable but at least I was able to have some food and coffee.
We packed up the Impala to head south on I-95 and then I-295.  We stopped in Augusta to have a look at the State House.  I found it to be sort of "medium sized", close to that of the one in Providence, larger than the one in Concord NH but smaller than in Hartford CT.  The only state house in the USA that is not bicameral is Nebraska.  It has only a state senate.  Everywhere else has both a house of representatives or assembly, and a state senate.
Going on I-295 to Portland, there is one toll to pay, until reaching south of the Maine Mall, elsewhere is free of charge.  At the I-95 interchange with I-295 there is a toll booth where you take your ticket and then the final toll booth in Maine is just north of Kittery.  Speaking of that section, between Wells and York, the traffic situation was backed up for miles.  I think it took 45 minutes to be able to cross into Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  It was during the peak of the travel season, Monday the 5th July 2010 being a legal holiday so everyone was rushing to return to NH, Vermont and Massachusetts, maybe even Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York.
When we crossed into New Hampshire, I-95 became the Blue Star Turnpike.  It was only fifteen miles long in New Hampshire before crossing into Massachusetts.  There was only one toll booth near Hampton NH, and at the nearby rest stop, there was one of the state liquor stores.  I bought a couple of New Hampshire beers there.
Traffic went smoothly on I-95 in Massachusetts until we reached Wakefield.  The last ten miles to the WTC Renaissance hotel would not be exactly the most pleasant.  It was slow going between Woburn, Medford and Charlestown.  It got a little better as we passed by TD Gardens and went underground to I-90.  The car was parked at the Renaissance and we checked in.  However there was some technical issue with our reservations, so we were delayed for a half hour.
My room in the Renaissance hotel was well equipped.  It had laminated flooring, a USB outlet for my MP3 player, and a very nice view of the airport, the Waterfront and even the World Trade Center itself.
About 5 PM we took the SL1 bus into town.  It went underground from WTC to South Station, then we took the red line to Downtown Crossing and the orange line to State.  That was the closest T station to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall.  We found the Durgin Park very easily.  We had a table in the upstairs seating area.  I ordered the scrod with mashed potatoes and boiled broccoli, and a glass of Sam Adams.  The wait staff did not bump into my chair as much as I expected them to.  The meal was enjoyable.
We walked to the waterfront and we decided that taking a water taxi to the airport in the morning would be too much trouble, and the SL1 would be a better way.
My family had also wanted to see something that I may not find particularly interesting so they said I could do whatever I wanted the rest of the night, on condition that I join them at 6 AM the next morning to go to the airport.  I agreed and then walked to the State station, went two stops on the orange line to North Station, transferred to the green line, and rode it to Lechmere, pronounced as Leechmere.  Lechmere was up to the end of May 2020, a loop terminal station for the green line.  An extension to College Avenue has started and it may be complete by 2022.
After Lechmere, I took the green line to Park Street and took a red line to Savin Hill.  At JFK/UMass there is a branch also to Braintree via Quincy and Wollaston.  I did not have time to take the Ashmont/Mattapan trolleycar line, so I saved that for a future visit a few years later.  I also went to Braintree at that future visit at that same time.
I returned to South Station and transferred to the SL1 for WTC.  I had a small cup of Ben and Jerry's ice cream at the little shop outside the hotel.  Then I went up to my room, listened to some music and then went to bed.  I had to wake up at 5:30 AM the next morning.
Tomorrow's adventure is taking the SL1 from WTC to the airport, attempting to fly to DFW but getting diverted to Austin's Bergstrom airport but eventually arriving a few hours later than expected.  Hope you will join me then.

COVID19 UPDATES 03/27/2020
Livestream of FDNY radio traffic for a taste of the battle being fought: LINK
WRAPPING UP WEEK 2 OF FULLTIME TELEWORK, THIS CAPTURES THE NEW NORMAL:
Tumblr media
RUMINT (PA): Hospital INTEL (eastern PA). Currently on 14 day quarantine from work in the ER. Hospitals running out of everything. Don't go outside. Getting bad out there.
US: U.S. coronavirus cases: - New York: 37,738 (385 deaths) - New Jersey: 6,876 (81 deaths) - California: 3,718 (78 deaths) - Michigan: 2,856 (60 deaths) - Washington: 2,580 (132 deaths) - Illinois: 2,538 (26 deaths) - Massachusetts: 2,417 (25 deaths) - Louisiana: 2,305 (83 deaths)
France: BREAKING - A teenager has died from #COVID19 for the first time in France - the 16-year-old patient died in the Paris region, confirmed the French Health Minister.

Georgia: Georgia's worst-hit hospital fills 3 ICU units with 'critically ill' coronavirus patients. LINK
RUMINT (Massachusetts): Update on my family member. Started showing symptoms on Monday. He took a turn for the worse today started having severe coughing fits and his temp jumped to 103. His wife called the hospital, they assigned her a number when his number is up an ambulance will pick him up. Took about 20 to 30 mins before an ambulance came to get him. His wife is also symptomatic they have been married for just over 60 years. It's a sad day. This is where we are now in MA.You have to wait in line at home before they come and get you. This is going to get so much worse.
Michigan: Michigan 2856 cases 60 deaths
World: With Few Willing to Fly, Airliners Are Transforming Into Cargo Planes LINK
US: Potential impact of idiotic Spring Breakers. LINK
World: Covid-19: Up to 10% of recovered patients test positive later, say Wuhan doctors LINK
RUMINT:  Nurse here, boots on the ground checking in: Seeing a lot of patients come in for rule out of course. The sickies who are looking septic and need respiratory support (from NC to high flow to vent) are often young--ive seen 20s-50s. A few have "poop colored" sputum...not rusty, but brown. I've had a truly shitty day as a few on my team (that covers the entire hospital including ER, ICU and COVID unit) arent being as diligent and are putting myself and others at risk. They think I'm being over anxious and micromanaging. Suit yourself...but since 98% of patients whether covid, rule out or not have barking coughs and need oxygen...I'm not taking chances. Its disheartening and I came this close to either flipping out or walking out. And yes, PPE shortage is real as hell and too scary. Our hospital system actually approved a pattern for cloth masks to be sewn. We are encouraged to seek out our own respirators/N95s as the current supply will only go so far and only last so many uses.
Iran: Iranian media reports nearly 300 people have been killed and more than 1,000 sickened by ingesting toxic methanol across the Islamic Republic out of the false belief it kills the new coronavirus - AP
UK: The Government has written to all local authorities in England asking them to house all people sleeping rough, those in hostels and night shelters by the weekend in a bid to protect people during the covid-19 outbreak
Spain: Spain Returns 1st Faulty Batch Test Kits To China As They Failed To Work; Spanish Association Of Microbiologists (Seimc) Warned That The Testing Kits In This Batch Performed With An Accuracy Level Of Under 30%
UK: Prime Minister Boris Johnson tested positive for Covid 19
Spain: SPAIN'S HEALTH EMERGENCY CHIEF SAYS 9,444 HEALTH WORKERS TESTED POSITIVE TO CORONAVIRUS
Italy: HEAD OF ITALY'S NATIONAL HEALTH COUNCIL SAYS ON THE BASIS OF THE DATA IT IS INEVITABLE THAT ITALY'S LOCKDOWN MUST BE EXTENDED BEYOND CURRENT APRIL 3 DATE
Massachusetts: 8 Boston Police Officers have tested positive for Corona Virus. LINK
UK: UK HEALTH SECRETARY HANCOCK TESTS POSITIVE - SELF ISOLATING AT HOME, SYMPTOMS MILD
RUMINT (New York): My cousin is a nurse in New York, she texted me this. I haven’t personally taken care of any covid patients yet thank god but I’m being transferred to a covid unit on Monday which I’m not looking forward to.. more worried about my family than myself, I don’t want to infect anyone when I get home. But what you see on the news is real, lots of people being ventilated, it’s so sad/scary and the hospitals don’t even have enough masks/ protective gear for us it’s so terrible; can’t wait for this to all be over!! New York is truly a mess we pretty much are on lock down.
RUMINT (Mississippi): Good morning! Sipping my coffee getting ready to go to work. Got word last night that due to low census, they are CUTTING nurses in the ER by 4. I cannot tell you how this is going to crush the morale of the already stressed out nurses I work with. I no longer feel guilty about leaving. That place is going to kill people with their incompetence. They cite "budget" reasons. Um, you've already budgeted for the minimal staffing for the year, which is 12 nurses a shift, so that shit doesn't fly with me. One day the people will come back with a vengeance and the nurses will be the one's to suffer, not management. Fuckers. The non-emergent people have heeded the warning to stay away from the ER unless you are having a CVA, MI, Bleeding or have a bone showing. The drop in census is about 50 pts a day which is not that much to me, but the suits think it's significant. That's 2 pts an HOUR. It goes to show the bullshit that usually packs the waiting rooms. Maybe people will realize they can live without running to the ER for stupid stuff that they can treat at home, but I digress. We've had 6 deaths in Mississippi so far. Since we've started testing our cases have steadily gone up. Scary for this sparsely populated state, but I kept telling them it was coming. Nobody seemed to listen or care until it was on their doorstep.

Chapter Index
Story on Wattpad
Ressler.
I discovered that Liz had kept digging into the files that Mags had taken to my office, and we had some cases to take over to ensure we got Maggie's old clients and possible threats covered.
I worked with different other task forces to follow their daily activities and to make sure they were under surveillance 24/7.
Soon enough we had out holiday break and when I got back home from the post office right before lunch, I saw Mags with a bag, and was standing on the side of the stairwell. She removed a hidden panel and I could see the distinctive stacks of money she had hidden under there.
I closed the door, making her look at me and give me a smile.
"You're early" she said, then took two handfuls of stacks and dumped them in the bag.
"Yeah, I just had to sign off for the holidays" I walked and saw another couple of stacks drop on the bag "okay Walter White, what's all this?"
She smiled at me and my reference, then continued loading the money.
"Since we're going to my sister's place for Christmas I decided to take the money to buy the house from her. I called a realtor from Rhode Island and my dad's house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an attic, basement, and 1.024 square feet was valued by him on 345k. The half of that is 175k, it's 45k more than what I have but it'll be enough for my sister to buy anything in here, she could buy a terrain and build in it, have a costume home for her a my nieces and nephew"
I stood there watching her unload all of her hard work on a bag, I could never understand how people got so attached to some things
I assumed my face mimicked my thoughts, when Maggie got a glimpse of me as she finished she gave me a frown.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just upsetting seeing this" I motioned at the bag "you're giving up so much because you can't let that house go"
She gave a lip tight smile and closed the compartment in the staircase.
"Someday I might sell the house just not today"
A little unsettling thought invaded me, and while she picked up the heavy bag I took it and carried it upstairs.
"But you're not thinking to buy it and move there right?" She was walking in front of me towards the bedroom, and I could see her shoulder shrugging.
"I don't know, why?" She said over her shoulder.
I stuttered at first, leaving the bag on the floor of our bedroom and pacing the room.
"Mags if you move out to Rhode Island I.... It's a large travel from there to here and couldn't go with you until I finish this Reddington thing, maybe if I get transferred but that-" in the middle of my rant I turned to her, finding her with a big mocking grin on her face. I undid my tie and gave her a little smile as well. "Oh you think it's funny, scare me like that?"
I think she wasn't expecting me to jump on the bed and go at her, she screamed and chickened out in the corner of the room, when I got her up my arms and flew her to the bed and attacked her ribs, knowing that if there was something Maggie was, it was ticklish.
She screamed whem my finger attacked her ribs and she tried to fend me off with her legs, she let out a large laugh and I downed my lips to hers, drowning her laughter, accompanying her with my own little chuckle.
I pulled back slightly, but this place on the bed and between her legs was possibly my favorite, she hugged me by the neck while she took a deep breath and ran her hands on my hair, she loved to mess it up for some reason.
"Is the prospect of living without me so terrifying?" She said, I didn't hesitate in nodding, and downed my lips on hers one more time "you've got nothing to worry about, I'm not going anywhere, and specially not without you."
I pulled her to a sitting position while still holding her by the waist.
"Do you have anything to do now?"
"Christmas shopping" I made a disgruntled sound and stood up, still holding her in my arms, I left her on the floor and began to undo the buttons on my shirt. "you don't have to come if you don't want to"
"It's not that, it's just that I was already getting excited to do something else" she smirked and placed a little kiss on my lips.
"I'll wait for you downstairs"
Everyone had a favorite holiday, and Mags was definitely Christmas. I didn't mind it that much, I don't remember the last time I celebrated it,  but it has been longer that five years, that I knew. I think one reason why they gave me the Reddington file was because it was too straining to follow him. I remember spending New year's eve's overseas following him, and it definitely made my relationship with people bad. With Audrey, my mom, my brother. The only friends I had were my unit.
One distinctive point of difference between my relationship with Audrey and now Mags, was that Mags understood why I did what I did. Why it was so important for me to catch him, and why is it so important for me to continue in the task force.
We did our Christmas shopping and had dinner at night, getting up early to head over to Maddie's house. Since we couldn't clear airport security with a bag full of cash without raising suspicions, we had to take the long route and drive 6 hours minum to Rhode Island. I didn't mind at all to drive, especially if Mags was my copilot.
I hadn't had a holiday vacation in years, and if I had it at some point, I bet it wouldn't be as memorable as this one.
Before christmas Mags presented her sister the money for her to buy half of the house, and they spent a day, two at most, getting all of the paperwork done so they could pass the deed of the house on and put it to Mags name. After that they spent a lot of time house hunting in DC, Mags was over the moon her sister was coming to live near her. But since they couldn't move until the girls finished school, they decided to buy a terrain and have a house built costume, and of course, Maggie was going to design it.
Christmas came and went, Maddie made a little joke about how the present boxes were getting smaller and smaller when I presented Mags a set of earrings I saw her eyeballing a long time ago.
After Christmas, and since Maddie had to spend New year's Eve with Ethan's family, Mags and I drove back to DC, and in there I planned a little something for New year's Eve.
I had Maggie dressed for a night out, and after we settled in Alexandria, we ate in the local food post, then ended up in the rail of the river to wait for the fireworks.
Mags was propped up against the rail and I was hugging her by her waist, pressing her back to mine. I led my lips to her neck and kissed, she moved her face to the side and I could kiss her on the lips before she smiled and broke the kiss.
"Any new year's resolution agent Ressler?"
"Mmmm, let's see" I pressed her to my chest and sighed "I want us to travel more, I want to live in the moment, stablish date nights and stick to them, learn how to cook for you" she smiled while I placed a little kiss on her cheek.
"You forgot be happy"
"I already am happy" she smiled sweetly at me, and turned to look ahead, I placed my chin on her shoulder. "And you?"
"Oh, god, do you have a minute?" She joked, I followed and looked at my watch
"4 minutes until New years."
"Okay quick. Get married, have a baby, those are like the standard every year resolution, but also totally travel, stop worrying so much, get another tattoo"
"Another one?"
"Yeah, you're supposed to have them uneven, what? Are they a turn off?"
I shook my head no, because they definitely weren't, I loved her tattoos, they were minimalistic and delicate, they fitted her perfectly.
"I've never had a new year's kiss before" she mentioned, looking up at the sky.
"Who said you were getting one?" I joked, making her nudge me in the ribs scoldingly, but still with a smile on her face.
I turned her around for her to hug me by the shoulders. I pressed my forehead to hers as I heard the countdown begin. Her smile grew wider at the sound of people cheering down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
I pressed my lips down on her when people around us began to cheer Happy New Year, my hands moved from her waist to her lower back and the space between her shoulders.
That night, while I watched the fireworks reflect off her eyes, when we made love, when I had her sleeping on top of me, there was only one thought in my mind.
I wouldn't let it go past this year, I was going to ask Maggie to marry me.
Maggie.
After a memorable Christmas time and new year's Eve with my family and my amazing boyfriend, I put all of my focus on my sister's new house.
Being an architect had it's perks, I knew a lot of the people in the industry and me being me I had a lot of friends and friendly faces everywhere I went, getting the terrain for my sister's house wasn't a challenge, in a good neighborhood, close to school, it was sold to me pretty cheap.
The building itself took time, and while I supervised all of it I also worked in my firm, so to say the least I was very busy, maybe even busier than Don, and that was saying a lot.
I had three projects to oversee, plus the one that I was already checking out, my sister's sketch needed to be finished for her to give me the thumbs up and I had it all in a deadline.
I had settled in the kitchen table after I got off work and I didn't realized how late it was until Don came back from work and plopped a bag next to me.
"Hi gorgeous" he said, I left the pen in the table and looked up, waiting for him to lean down and kiss me "busy?"
"You have no idea" I complained, he finally gave me a kiss and I continued down with my work.
"It must be important if you're willing to pass on ice cream" he tapped the container and took the bag.
"And by the look of it, pass on sleep too"
I heard him put the ice cream on the freezer, then do something else.
"Don't forget about the date tomorrow" he said placing a cup of coffee next to me.
I gave him a smile and took the bag, and as soon as he sat down on the couch and turned the TV on, I quickly checked the date on my phone. Time really flew by, tomorrow was our first year anniversary. Thank God I preemptively bought stuff to gift to Don, when I was out and I saw something he might like I bought it and kept it hidden until it was time for me to give them.
I was summed in my work, only getting past the first project when the doorbell rang, Don stood up and went to get it, coming back with a flat box.
He left the box on the table, the smell of pizza slowly getting to my nostrils and making my stomach rumble. He got a beer for us and sat down next to me, I moved my stuff a little out of the way and sighed, rubbing on my forehead.
"I'm getting a headache"
"You can't do this later?" He passed me a slice of pizza and opened the beer for me.
"No, I'm super delayed, and now that you reminded me that we had to go out tomorrow I really have to crank it and finish at least 3 projects tonight"
"Sounds like that new position is a bit overwhelming"
"It's not, I've just taken a lot of jobs thinking I could do it. And I can, I just need time"
"And why have you taken so many jobs?"
"Because I still need to give my sister another 30 grand, and not to mention I don't have-"
"Money for your wedding" he interrupted me.
"I know that it sounds very cliche to you, but I have big expectations for my wedding and not having money for it makes me angry." I replied a little annoyed, I'd never liked it when people joked about me saving for my wedding, people save for years for their children's tuition, is it because it makes me sound selfish?.
"We'll figure this out Mags, I have money I can-"
"No, thank you" I interrupted this time "I can work something out, if you want to help, just keep me fed. But preferably healthy fed" I said taking another slice of pizza "I couldn't fit a pair of jeans this morning, and I'm also unhappy about that too"
"Buy bigger ones" he presented as a solution, that made me chuckle, as if it was that simple.
"What did you do today?"
"Nothing interesting, followed a missing child that turned up yesterday"
"Missing children sometimes turn up"
"Not if they were declared dead"
I frowned and twisted my lips.
"Okay, weird. As much as I would like to hear about his conspiracy theory, I have to get back to work."
I cleaned my hands on my jeans, something Don always looked at me scoldingly for, then got back to work.
He really tried to stay up with me as long as he could, but I insisted on him going to bed, he still had to work tomorrow and I could sleep in for a few more hours before going to work myself.
I didn't went to bed until 4 am that night, and even though I could sleep until 7:30, that wasn't enough rest time for anything. The following day I was a zombie, I was still the same energetic me but it took a lot of coffee.
My sister had approved of my design and I took care of buying the materials to start building,
I squeezed some time and got off work early, when I got home I threw myself in the couch, exhausted. I woke up to soft kisses on my jaw, an overwhelming scent of cologne and aftershave. Even though I was conscious I couldn't open my eyes.
"Should I cancel the reservation?" I head Don ask me softly in my ear. I forced my eyes open, it was 7pm.
"No, I'll get up now, give me 20 minutes" I got up, thinking that I was down on the couch, but I wasn't, I was on my bed.
I showered and got into a nice dress and a pair of heels, not that high but still high enough to accentuate my legs, then got on Don's car.
"Did you finish what you had to?" He said while driving, placing a spare hand on my thigh, touching the bits of skin that weren't covered by the dress.
"Yeah, thankfully, told you I just needed some time"
We parked outside a building and I couldn't help but gasp when I got off the car.
"You didn't bring us to Sakerum"
"We can go somewhere else if you don't want to" he said grabbing me by the waist and leading us to the entrance.
"I freaking love Sakerum"
I really did love Sakerum, it's a rooftop restaurant in DC and ever since I found out about it, it was my favorite Asian fusion restaurant, the ambiance outside, the decor, the food, everything was perfect, and I wouldn't pick other place to celebrate one year with Don.
He had made a reservation and we sat in a corner piece, placed our picks and waited. I held Don's hand while I got comfortable next to him, placing my head on his shoulder since we were sitting one next to the other.
"What'd you do today? Caught the bad guy?"
"Yeah, I did. Those missing children? We found more, tracked a full colony of presumed missing children. Turns out the guy who got them missing was actually a guy who worked on getting these children a new place if the parents gave them up for adoption"
"That's horrible. So he faked the children's death and got them to this colony?"
"Yeah, and then when they turned 12 they killed them"
"Okay, that's ultra fucked up. Thank god you got that guy"
"Woman" he corrected.
He cupped my cheek with his hand and brought me in for a kiss.
"And by the way" I said running my hand from his waist up to his chest "I like you a lot in black"
He smiled while I leaned again and kissed him one more time. We got interrupted to be served some wine, then were left alone again. We both picked up our glasses and held them up.
"Happy first anniversary Mags" he began, looking at me in the eyes, I could see a different glint in them while his eyes moved on top of mine "you've uh..." He stopped for a second, and I could feel his other hand curl up to mine "you've made me really happy. All I want in life is to pay you back with more happiness. All of those things that you want? White picket fence, marriage, children, I want to give you all of that if that means I'll get to see you smile everyday. I-"
I stopped him, because at this point I was holding back tears and I couldn't help to let one drop on my cheek.
I had placed my hand on top of his chest to make him stop, and I had to put down the glass to clean up my cheeks. When I was a little more composed I grabbed the glass again and gave him a little embarrassed chuckle.
"I love you" he finished, and I leaned to kiss his lips again.
I ran my hand on his shoulders and pulled him in, giving him another short kiss before I said
"I love you more Don, you have no idea how much you've changed my life" he smiled over my lips and kissed me again, being interrupted when we got served our order.
"Where's my gift?" He said, leaving the glass on the table and leaning over to start eating
"It's at the house" I said, doing the same.
"Ah, it's one of those gifts?" He said suggestively.
"No" I rolled my eyes at him playfully "it's not that kind of gift, it's just a big box"
I saw him look on the inside of his suit jacket and give me a little smirk
"Want mine now?" I nodded eager, I loved gift exchange, which is why Christmas was my favorite Holiday of all. He took out a little brochure and handed it to me. I enthusiastically took it and opened it. Inside there were plane tickets and promotional photos of Beach resorts.
"What?" I asked with a big smile.
"It's a cash in vacation, I know that you can't take that much time off with your new job, but whenever you want we can take a week off in Maui"
"Are we going to Maui?" I asked in a high pitch voice. Before he could confirm I held myself to the slopes of his suit and pulled him to me, kissing him again. He chuckled against my lips and placed his hands on my waist, holding me closer.
I thought that we really should stop kissing and get to the eating part of the dinner, so I very reluctantly pulled back and handed him the envelope back for him to store in his suit, but boy didn't I want to skip on this dinner and fuck him in the car.
