🏒 Okay so it’s been a while but this is still a problem!!! There’s this group of girls (probably like 8-10 girls) obsessed with my boyfriend. And like ok yeah I get it he’s an athlete and cute and all the appeal is there. But for the last 3? months they have just been stalking us, following me around everywhere when I take the dog out, showing up at restaurants, everything. And it’s not like they are just there doing whatever, they are giggling and taking pictures and at least one of them comes up to us every time they see us asking VERY invasive questions. And my boyfriend has asked them to stop but they are still always there when I leave the apartment. It’s kinda scary being followed constantly and like these girls are harmless but what happens when someone isn’t.. I have had a lot of anxiety about it and all of our friends have said that I’m downplaying the severity of it to my boyfriend and everyone else but I just don’t know what to do. I’m a no body, no one should care about my outfits or what I’m eating for lunch or anything lol anyways life has basically been all hockey & hiding from the snow and cold. We were suppose to get a break from hockey in February but that’s not happening anymore and now he’s going to be gone the weekend of Valentine’s Day lol which is good I guess because he’s under strict instructions not to buy any presents, like actually if I get any chocolate I will fight haha. Omg also!! He was away and I went to go to two games and the day of the second game we got into an argument and he played like shit and I felt guilty but also he was in the wrong so like really not my problem but after that game I was flying home and he was flying to another place for a game, but he was so grumpy he didn’t talk to me after the game so I was like k cool see u at home, and when he got home like 2 days later there was 250 roses on the counter, sooooo yeah I’m about to have to take away his credit card. How have you been!! ILY

that is beyond creepy and weird what these girls are doing. like do they know that they are acting so invasive…? it’s like they think it’s cute and funny and your boyfriend is gunna see that and be like omg yes i want one of these little fan girls??? no? would you ever say sometning to them or have your boyfriend be like can you guys back the fuck up because it’s weird and not funny and i would appreciate it if you quit it. i’m so sorry your going through this tho i’m sure it’s hard and hard on your anxiety :/ it’s creepy and makes you feel unsafe. i would bet money he is still going to get you something for valentine’s day! that’s absolutely adorable that he got you those roses 🥺🥺🥺 he sounds like such a good guy wow. my boyfriend left last sunday and i am like depressed lol. he stayed at my house for a month and it’s weird being without him. but i’m going to california next week so atleast we wills only be away from each for like 10 days. it’s also so fucking cold here i forgot how much i hate the cold. do you have any fun weekend plans?? love you so much!! xoxoxo

omg the anon who thought i meant trevor 😭 no no definitely not trevor. T doesnt even play hockey lol. actually he might have growing up since hes canadian. but no hes not a hockey player haha. but hes still an athlete so hes strong and he really just swooped me up like that. trust me i did die. it was touchy i had so many butterflies. omg i didnt even think about my friends suggestion wait-. and i know he didnt have to wait but he did and he went back with me. it was so cute 🙈 idk i wont be seeing him this weekend for sure but maybe next week?

also im screaming bc T snapped me this morning. it was a pic of him with ashes all over himself bc the wind blew when he was trying to clean the fire pit lol. now we’ve just kept the convo going. talking about our days so far. like its not the morning still lol. but i guess our snap convo can continue? if he keeps it going. so have to see what happens there

I do recall the phrase teammate being used and I guess I just assumed he played hockey?? I didn’t even ask, I’m sorry! He’s definitely flirting so I think it’s safe to say he may be interested in you, even if it’s just figuring out if you two would work together. And he’s snapping you right away in the morning?? What were you doing 45 minutes ago? Working/on a conference call 

What is your favourite candy bar? I’m actually not big into candy at all. But as far as “bars” go, my weakness is a Crunch bar, I guess.

Have you ever been to a professional sports event? Being a lover of sports, the short answer is yes, lol. All of them being my home city teams (NFL, NBA, MLS...my dream is to see the USNWT though omg...and an NHL game too but I know nothing about hockey, it just looks like fun to attend)

What is the last thing you said out loud? “Did I eat all of jalapeño chips already?!” (the answer is yes, lmao)

What is your favourite ice cream? Chocolate chip cookie dough (but I do love gelato more than ice cream)

What was the last thing you had to drink? Coffee

How did you get your biggest scar? On my left knee I have a small scar which was from a STUPID, mean siamese cat named Junior that at 5 years old I THOUGHT wanted to play with me but I WAS MISTAKEN. I’ve honestly had a grudge against cats ever since, lol.

What did you do today that made someone else happy? Oh, just my usual witty, sarcastic banter with my co-workers virtually.

Coach

Written in response to OMG Check Please! Episode 4-10. Contains spoilers.

Rick knew he was being paranoid when he booked the 7:25 a.m. flight to Boston. But he did not intend to miss Junior’s game because of a flight delay.

Heck, if he could have left Friday night, he would have. But he had his own game then. The first flight Delta had out in the morning would have to do.

It was supposed to get in just before ten, a full nine hours before Junior’s game started. What did they call it? Puck drop? Anyway, even if his flight was canceled for some reason, he should have time to rebook.

Then, with having to get a rental car and get to Samwell — well, he’d heard about driving in Boston — he’d told Junior he’d see him sometime in the afternoon.

He hadn’t counted on the flight actually landing early. There was no line at the rental counter, and it turned out that the highway from the airport mostly went through a tunnel that kept him out of city traffic. Maybe he’d have time for sightseeing tomorrow. Maybe Junior could come with him. If he wanted to.

Anyway, he hadn’t counted on showing up at the Haus (easily identifiable by the crossed hockey sticks over the front door and curtains that matched Suzanne’s in the kitchen window) just over an hour after he got off the plane.

When he knocked, the door was opened by a kid who took one look at him, eyes wide, and said, “You must be Bitty’s dad! Um, he’s not here right now, but he should be back soon if you want to come in.”

The kid introduced himself, said he was the goalie, and led Rick through the living room without stopping, heading directly into the kitchen. It was probably where Junior spent most of his time anyway.

Then the kid mumbled something about something he had to do and left Rick to look around. Yeah, it was Junior’s kitchen alright. The fridge was cleaner and full of more food (and less beer) than anyone would expect in a houseful of college boys, the plates were in the cupboard to the right of the sink, and a collection of mixing bowls filled the lower cabinet underneath them. Coach was pretty sure he could find any common utensil on the first try here.

At least he had some time to think about what to say. It had been over half a year since he’d seen his son (in person, at least. He’d seen that clip of him kissing Jack Zimmermann so often it felt like it was burned unto his eyelids at one point). They still talked on Sundays when he called Suze, still texted before and after games, but their relationship wasn’t the same. Or maybe it was. Maybe before that, he just hadn’t known how much of Junior’s life he kept to himself.

Rick supposed he had the right. Suzanne’s feelings had been hurt, no doubt about it. She’d been shocked, that Junior was kissing a boy, yes, but more that he was kissing anyone at all and she didn’t know about it. Then Junior had ignored her texts and calls for over a day, and that didn’t sit well with Rick. A boy should show respect to his mother, whether he liked girls or boys or little green men from Mars.

But he loved Junior -- of course he did -- and Suzanne said she’d assured Junior of that. And that he was welcome at home. But he hadn’t come, not even for a visit, before classes started again. Part of Rick wanted to think it was because of all the things Jack could give him that his parents couldn’t (and no, his mind was not going there). But a millionaire like Jack must have all the luxuries Junior could want at his fingertips.

Rick knew better, though. Junior wasn’t one to be swayed by material things. Heck, he lived here, where the kitchen was clean but the linoleum was faded and the front steps had a definite tilt. More likely, he wasn’t sure of his welcome, or he was acting out of his own hurt at the way he and Suzanne hadn’t celebrated his coming out.

It still seemed something to handle cautiously, privately, to Rick. He didn’t hate gay people, not at all, but too many people did, and when he saw that on TV, all he could think was how vulnerable it would make his boy. Maybe it wasn’t right, but that’s the way it was.

Maybe that had something to do with why Junior hadn’t come home too.

And it was past time for Rick to see him play. Suzanne told him as much when he said he might come to this weekend, and she reminded him of how his own daddy came to every home football game when he was in college. He was only an hour from home, not a thousand miles away. Still, he’d been remiss, and he wouldn’t blame Junior at all if he was upset.

Get my car towed and screw the date you set me up with? Hmmm...

One weekend I drove back to my hometown for an old high school friend's wedding. I arrived on Friday expecting to be a homebody at my parents' until the wedding rolled around on Sunday.

As I'm unpacking I get a text from "Clarrisa," another old friend who was invited to the wedding. Now, I hadn't seen Clarissa since her high school graduation party, but we'd been as close as two girls can be in a petty small town. In later years Clarissa had run with a more "wild" group, meaning that she openly smoked weed and had unprotected sex, but I still missed her and responded eagerly.

Yes, I was in town! Yes, I would love to hang out! And no, I'm not dating [insert ex-boyfriend's name] anymore. Actually, I'm having a really hard time dealing with our recent breakup.

Clarissa says that's too bad, but she's hanging out with a close guy friend at his apartment right now and thinks we would hit it off! Did I want to mix some drinks with them and crash on the couch with her? Sure, great, sounds fun. I drive to the address she texts me, and she tracks me down outside and jumps into the passenger seat.

After some "you look great, I've missed you" talk, I drive us around to look for parking. The problem is, we're on a very busy downtown street, and there are no spots left. The only parking I can find is "reserved." But as I drive past them, Clarissa shrieks at me, "You just passed those spots!" When I point out that they're reserved, she gives me an eye-roll smile and says she parks her car there ALL the time. No one cares. And in the off chance I DO get a ticket, she says, her guy friend is loaded and will definitely pay it for me. I raise an eyebrow but in the end, I circle the block and park my crappy van where she suggested.

After about an hour in the company of Clarissa and her guy friend, however, I start having some regrets. Turns out her idea of "mixed drinks" is tequila and mountain dew. I shit you not.

Now, this guy friend of hers is nice looking and all, but he isn't really my type. For one, he mixes tequila and mountain dew. But more than that, he dropped out of high school to work at Quicken Loans and seems to form most of his opinions from Cracked articles. Sigh. I start sucking down my tequila & mountain dew just to get through what is sure to be a god-awful night. Whenever Clarissa and I are alone (in the kitchen or the balcony, where she smokes Quicken Loan's cigarettes), she tells me to give him a chance. He's a really nice guy, much nicer than my ex anyway, and did she mention he's loaded?! (He made about $50k at Quicken Loans, which must have been a fortune to her.)

After another hour, we're watching re-runs of Full House. It's definitely not love at first sight with Quicken Loans, but we're at least shooting the breeze, making jokes. I can tell he's into me, which is flattering since I've been a bit of a recluse since the break-up. Well, in the middle of an episode, Clarissa jumps up and asks Quicken Loans if he wants to do a tequila shot in the kitchen! She pointedly doesn't ask me, which is fine - I don't like tequila anyway - but after about 2 minutes, I turn around to see them in an aggressive match of tonsil hockey in the middle of the kitchen. I just kind of look away, feeling shocked and even worse than before. I wasn't about to propose to Quicken Loans or anything, but Clarissa was either too trashed to function or didn't like him paying more attention to me than to her. Or both. Eventually, they go off to Quicken Loan's bedroom and I have a little cry before falling asleep, feeling miserable and missing my ex boyfriend worse than ever, especially as I hear moaning and groaning just a few feet away.

The next morning, I wake up on the couch alone at 11am. None of them seem to be awake yet, but damned if I'm waiting to say goodbye after that shitty night. As I get ready to leave, though, I realize that Clarissa took my phone with her by mistake (we had the same phone). I knock on the bedroom door and hear rushed dressing sounds, like they can somehow hide the fact that they randomly paired off to have sex all night. Clarissa emerges like nothing happened - not so much as an apology - and tracks down my phone. We say goodbye (a little coldly from my end) and plan to see each other at the wedding the next day.

When I walk outside, though, I see that my van has been towed. Not even a ticket, as Clarissa had mentioned - it's flat-out gone. So I march back inside. Quicken Loans answers the door looking confused, and I explain that my van has been towed and I need a ride to the impound lot. I don't even mention the fact that Clarissa offered HIS money to pay for a ticket if I got one. At this point Clarissa herself emerges half-naked. When she gets the gist of what's going on, she turns downright nasty and denies everything, laughing her ass off the entire time. She tells me I'm being dramatic and should be grateful to her for even hanging out with me when I'm such a "wet blanket." While she's still talking, I just turn around and call a taxi to go get my car. As the taxi's driving, I start plotting my revenge.

On the day of the wedding, I text Clarissa as if nothing happened. I make boring small talk - omg what does her dress look like?!?!?! etc etc. When the time for the ceremony rolls around, I tell her I'll meet her at the entrance to the athletic club (the ceremony taking place outside, out back). Clarissa happily agrees.

Meanwhile, I take a side exit to the ceremony and arrive with plenty of time to spare. As time trickles away for the wedding to begin, Clarissa's texts start to sound panicked. Where are you?! We're going to be late! I don't bother responding. Because Clarissa has always needed a band of girls to chaperone her everywhere, the thought of entering on her own doesn't even seem to be an option. Eventually, the ceremony begins and poor Clarissa doesn't even make it. Too embarrassed to walk in on the ceremony, she either stayed outside in the parking lot or hid out in the women's restroom.

At the reception, Clarissa marches over to our table looking furious. Why didn't I show up?! She missed the entire ceremony of our old friend's wedding because of me!!!

So what do I do? I sip my champagne, laugh at her, and tell her to stop being so dramatic. She sits down and fumes her way through dinner, not talking to me, just making beelines to the open bar and texting on her phone the entire time...probably venting to Quicken Loans. When the bride and family come over to thank us for coming, she's just texting and chugging back drinks. For all intents and purposes, it looks like she skipped the ceremony to take advantage of free food & drinks and barely pay attention to anyone else for the entire night. The bride and her family even low-key snub her. Of course, Clarissa is so drunk by this point that she barely notices.

To this day, I hear people badmouth her for being so rude and trashy whenever I come into town. I always have to purse my lips from revealing the full story.

tl;dr - Old friend fucks the boy she tried to set me up with and plays dumb when my car gets towed from the parking spot she insisted on. I make her late to our friend's wedding and out her as a trashy alcoholic.

🏒 We are literally so connected omg our fight was probably the worst one we’ve ever had too & my boyfriend was being you and just kept trying to get a reaction when we were out!!! Anyways we just went on a cute little date night tonight! I have been trying to make more of my own friends within Toronto outside of hockey, so me and two girls are going to Montreal tomorrow morning for a girls weekend & I guess we are meeting up with some of their friends from college hahaha idk I just said yeah sure I’m down let’s go!! It works out perfect because my boyfriend plays on Saturday there so I’ll go to the game & then go out Saturday night and then we are coming home Sunday afternoon & there’s another hockey game. And then randomly I’m going to Colorado on monday for one last ski trip of the season to come back to Toronto to pack for Florida!! Omg jealous you’re going to Coachella!!! that is so funny but for some reason i am not suprised we are so connected haha. i love a girls weekend that sounds so fun lmk what exactly you end up doing! i have been in san francsico since last thursday and just having a really nice time here. i techinally start work at 6am (but i dont actually do work until like 9am lol) and then im off at 2 because of the time change. so i just explore after work and work out and shop i love it. i leave on monday and im pretty excited to be home because i feel like i havent seen my friends in forever. i actually have felt very guilty about it bc they are like we havent seen you in forever and i dont wanna be that girl that only hangs out with her bf. so ill be home next weekend and then the week after i will be right back to california haha. where in florida are you going?? love you! <3

Alaska - Chapter One

(it’s rough at first but pls be patient)

Friday. Usually, I’m excited for Fridays because they signal the start of the weekend. However, now that I’m in Toronto, I have nothing to look forward to on the weekends except for the occasional wander around the city – alone.

I have some friends at my new school, but I’m not super close to most of them except for Carly. Carly was the first person I met at my new high school and we hit it off immediately. She was the one who introduced me to my other friends. I’ve hung out with them a few times, but I mostly keep to myself.

Outside of school, my life is even more boring. My mother’s new husband Tom is the reason we moved to Toronto. He works in the city as a high-end investment banker and business owner, so you can imagine how much money he makes. I never knew how well off Tom was until we moved into his house located just beyond downtown. It’s ridiculously huge and flashy. And now that I’ve gotten to know Tom, he’s the same way: flashy and slightly arrogant about his status. 

My mom loves it, though. She eats it all up. The expensive clothes, the trips, the house, the cars. She absolutely loves it. I like it to, but I don’t get caught up in the all materialistic things Tom has. Instead, I judge him based off his character which as of now, scores him solid C-.

“Hey, are you doing anything tonight?” Carly asks, jogging over to me in the parking lot. School has just ended, meaning I can finally go home and do absolutely nothing. However, I do have one obligation.

“My mom and Tom are making me go out to dinner with them,” I tell her with a frown. 

“That sucks. Are you sure you can’t get out of it? Karina is having a party at her house and I really want you to come,” she says sadly. As much as I’d actually like to go to the party, I know I won’t be able to get out of dinner.

“Yeah, they’re sticklers for these kinds of things,” I say, continuing toward my car.

“Alright. Well, if you get out of dinner early, you should drop by! She lives on Maple street. You’ll know which house,” she says, stopping next to her car. 

“Sounds good. See you later,” I say, climbing into my black Jeep, courtesy of Tom. Carly smiles and waves before shutting her door and driving off. I do the same, driving the route to Tom’s house I’ve grown accustomed to. 

After parking my car in the driveway, I enter the house through the side door. The house was quiet other than the quiet hum of warm air circulating through vents, heating the house. I make my way to the kitchen where I grab a water from the fridge. I twist the bottle open and take a sip, looking around the oversized room. No one needs this much counter space. 

Speaking of counters, my eyes land on a pink slip of paper resting on the far end of the marble. I walk over and begin to scan over the words.

Alaska-

I went to get my nails done and do a bit of shopping. I should be back around 6 and Tom should be home from work around then as well. Remember, family dinner at 7! Please dress nicely.

I roll my eyes at the note. I don’t know why she even bothers to leave these anymore. I assume every time she’s gone, she’s either shopping, getting a spa treatment, or pampering herself in some other way.

I toss the note in the garbage and jog up the staircase, down the hall, and into my room. I must say, it is gorgeous. I hate that it’s exactly how I pictured my dream room. 

I kick off my shoes and dump my backpack on the floor by the door. I have two hours to kill until I have to get ready for dinner and see as though napping is the best way to kill time, I flop onto my bed, pull a blanket over my body, and shut my eyes. 

Roughly two hours later, the sound of rain pounding on my windows wakes me, much to my dismay. I debate whether I should roll back over and sleep for thirty more minutes, but I know that I wouldn’t have time to get ready if I did. 

I throw the blanket off of me quickly and stand up so there is no chance I will fall back asleep. I shuffle over to my closet and scan the racks for something to wear. My mom said to “dress nicely” in her note which translates to “we are going somewhere fancy, so you better not dress like a bum.” All I want to do is change into sweatpants, eat, then go back to bed, but no. I have to get all dressed up and have awkward conversation with my mom and Tom over under portioned, expensive meals. 

Sighing, I grab a plain gray t-shirt dress and black bomber jacket off one of the racks and slip them on. Because it’s cold as shit here in Canada, I slide on black boots that come over the knee. I don’t bother touching the makeup I put on for school this morning, seeing as though the only people I’ll be interacting with are my mom, Tom, and our waiter. However, I do pull my long, blonde hair into a high ponytail to eliminate the possibility of it getting frizzy from the weather.

“Alaska!!” my mom hollers up the stairs. I grab my phone and walk out of my room.

“Coming!” I yell back, quickly making my way down the stairs, arriving in front of my mother and Tom who were waiting for me by the front door. 

“You ready to go?” my mom asks me with a small smile. I nod and follow the pair out the door and into Tom’s shiny black Mercedes. Tom takes his place in the driver’s seat, starting the car then pulling out onto the road. He and my mother talk about random things like what my mom bought and what Tom did at work. I zone out, staring through the window and getting lost in my own thoughts.

A few more minutes of staring occur until the sound of car doors opening pulls me from my thoughts. I exit the car as well, following Tom and my mother through the entrance of a fancy restaurant and across the room to our table. I take a seat across from the two of them and begin searching the menu for something to eat. I didn’t even realize I was hungry until I smelled food in the restaurant. 

Our waiter comes over to take our drink orders: a whiskey for Tom, margarita for my mother, and a water for me. Maybe I’ll be the one driving us home tonight. The three of us continue to scan the menu even though there are only a few options. The waiter returns with our drinks then writes down our orders for food. I decided on the steak and side salad, not in the mood to branch out and try something new. 

After placing our orders, we make small talk about our days and plans we have coming up. Tom tells us that he has to go to Melbourne for business and offers for us to go with him.

“Oh, we’d love to! Right, Alaska?” my mother exclaims. I suppress a groan and look back to Tom.

“How long would we be gone?” I ask him.

“Well, we would leave on Monday night and return next Sunday sometime in the afternoon,” he explains. My eyes light up at the thought of being away from my mother and Tom for an entire week. That would be amazing!

“I would love to, but I really don’t want to miss that much school considering it’s my senior year,” I say politely. Tom and my mother grin, probably hoping I’d say that.

“That’s quite alright. Are you comfortable staying home by yourself while we’re away?” Tom asks. I have to force myself not to laugh. I’m 17, almost 18. I definitely don’t need a babysitter.

“Yes, I’ll be fine,” I say with a smile. 

“Great! I guess we’ll have to get packing when we get home,” my mom says to Tom, giving him a kiss while giggling. I look away, not interested in seeing them make out. Our waiter brings out our food, setting the various plates down on the table. I dig in immediately, savoring every bite.

Once we’ve all finished our meals, and the waiter has gone to finish up the bill. Tom and my mother turn their attention to me with excited looks on their faces.

“What?” I ask, wondering why they were acting weird all of a sudden. Tom clears his throat before speaking.

“As you said earlier, you’re a senior in high school now. Your mother and I know how hard you’ve been working in school to get good grades. Plus, coming to a new school in a new country is never easy. So, we decided to get you a little something to commend you on your hard work,” Tom says, handing me some folded papers. I furrow my brows in confusion and unfold the pieces of paper revealing two tickets to the Maple Leafs-Penguins game tomorrow night at the ACC.

My eyes light up and a huge smile breaks out on my face.

“Thank you so much, guys!!” I exclaim, giving both Tom and my mother hugs across the table. I can’t believe I’m going to the game! I guess I’ll be calling Carly later…

“You’re very welcome. But we’re not done,” Tom says, pulling two badges out of his suit pocket and handing them over to me.

“In an effort to convert you to into a Leafs fan, you’ll be meeting the guys after the game,” Tom says with a big smile. I gawk at him in disbelief. I would much rather meet the Penguins, my favorite team, but I guess at least Carly will enjoy meeting the Leafs.

“How did you get these?” I ask Tom. Meet and greet passes aren’t usually for sale when it comes to hockey teams, so I’m confused how Tom managed to snag these.

“I know the manager Lou Lamoriello and the head coach Mike Babcock. I explained the situation and they were more than happy to support my endeavors in making you a Leafs fan. I smile and nod, not surprised he’s friends with the two. 

I thank Tom again for the tickets and passes before I go to my room when we get home. He just smiles, knowing that he’s made my day. Once I’m upstairs, I change into comfy clothes and wash my face then hop onto my bed.

I grab my phone and begin texting Carly about the tickets.

GUESS WHAT I GOT FOR US

Carly: WHAT

Tickets to the Leafs game tomorrow night!!!

Carly: OMG YAY

And it gets better…

Carly: How the hell could that get any better??

Maybe if I told you that I have passes to meet the Leafs after the game!!

Carly: GET OUT

Carly: YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

Carly: TELL ME YOU’RE NOT SERIOUS

Then I’d be lying :)

Carly: THIS IS AMAZING! I CAN’T WAIT!

Me neither!!!

Carly: You better not ruin it with your Penguin loving self!

Carly: Ugh fine. What’s the plan?

How about you come over to my house around 5, so we have time to get ready, eat, then head over to the ACC

Carly: Perf! I’ll see you then!

Cya!

I shut off my phone and roll over in bed with a smile. Only a couple hours until I get to see the Pens play! Just wish it was at PPG and that my dad was there with me. Back home, we used to go to games whenever we could. We would be the loudest ones there, constantly commenting on every call, play, and goal. 

I make a mental note to text my dad as soon as I wake up about how I was going to the game then I drift off to sleep.
