I really loved your take on the 5-0 task force with their mutant powers! How about something small from that verse? McDanno preparing a cook out where the team will come to celebrate their engagement maybe?
@space-ace-ravenclaw-demigod Sorry this took me SO LONG to finish. Been having some issues lol. But here it is. I hope you enjoy it! I had fun with it.
Steve hummed as he mixed spices into the bowel of burger meat. He should have been paying closer attention to what he was doing, Danny was very particular about the proportions of paprika, salt, and several others Steve only vaguely recognized, but he was too happy.
He was very happy. Danny had accepted his proposal and they were going to be married. Steve had been on cloud nine ever since Danny had said yes. Kono often complained that she had to toughen up her mental shields to keep of all of his, “mushy and sappy”, thoughts out of her head.
Steve really had been trying to keep a lid on it, in respect to Kono and other telepaths, empaths, and omnipaths that might be around. Emma had often told him that he had very forceful thoughts and emotions, easy for psionics to pick up on and hard for them to block out. Steve couldn’t help it though. He hadn’t been this happy since Danny had agreed to move in with him.
If Steve sat down and thought about it most his happiest moments included Danny. Their first date. Their first kiss. The first time they had sex. Even the first day they met, out in the garage, guns drawn and electro-magnetism in the air. Granted that happiness had been from getting one up on Danny by taking over his fathers case. But still, it counted.
So sue him, he was happy. Genuinely and fully happy. Something he hadn’t been in a long time. If he was a pain in the head for some psionics they could deal. He’d only been engaged for a week, he was allowed to wallow in it a bit. He’d get it under better control eventually.
“Babe, the kitchen is levitating again.” Danny’s amused tone snapped Steve out of his thoughts. While he’d been absently kneading ground beef his powers had reached out and effected the kitchen.
Now that he was focusing he realized the toaster and microwave were floating above the counter. The cutlery drawer and knife block were both empty, their contents floating near the ceiling. Even the fridge was hovering a little off the floor in its alcove.
“Do not tell Kono.” Steve said as he focused, setting the appliances back where the belonged and bringing the utensils down to the island to be sorted and put away. He could have done it with his abilities but putting them away the mundane way would focus his mind.
“Not a word, I promise.” Danny mimed zipping his lips as he sat three bulging canvas shopping bags on the counter. As Steve sorted through forks, knives, spoons, and other items he couldn’t help tracking his eyes over Danny’s form. Even after years of knowing each other and being together Steve still couldn’t help how hot he found Danny.
Wide shoulders and a trim waist, a beautiful backside and well muscled legs. Toned and powerful arms. Strong chest and well defined, though not overly ripped, stomach. Steve even loved the golden brown hair that spread over Danny’s gorgeous body. All that deliciousness packed into Danny’s small frame…sometimes Steve was delirious with want.
Before Danny the few men Steve allowed himself to be with, DADT effecting even mutants, had always been like him. Long and lean. Powerfully built more from training than nature. Ripped and gym toned and lethally trained. Danny…Danny was a pint-sized power house of natures design.
“I don’t need to be a telepath to know you’re practically drooling over me.” For a second time Danny’s amusement pulled him out of his thoughts. He didn’t even feel bad for starring. It wasn’t the first time and it damn sure wouldn’t be the last. Still, he made sure to quickly wipe his mouth and chin before Danny turned, just in case he had been. (He wasn’t, this time, but it had happed before).
“Of course not. You can detect the electrical changes in my body due to being aroused.” Steve replied, doing his best to sound smart, to reclaim a smidge of his dignity.
“Well yea,” Danny replied a shrug. He had finished emptying the bags and was now sorting the contents to be put away, “But I also know how much you love my ass in these pants.” Danny, the bastard, winked at him over his shoulder before turning back to the groceries.
Steve couldn’t even call him a liar. He loved Danny’s ass on a regular day. His fitted slack were sinful and his faded jeans somehow managed to be both loose and comfortable in the legs but also hug his glutes.
Today though he was dressed in a pair of light blue linen drawstring pants. They hinted at, more than accentuated, the curve of his ass but Steve still loved the way they looked on him. It was more to do with the fact that Danny was loosening up and embracing the island style more than anything. He loved Danny’s cuffed jeans and white t-shirt combo, it was very Jersey. But he counted getting Danny to wear light, loose, and soft clothes as a win. Today’s linen pants with lightweight button up, sleeves rolled up to the elbows and few buttons undone, was one of his favorite looks.
Now if he could just get him to embrace slippahs.
“I…I don’t suppose we have time for a little fun. Do we?” Steve asked as he moved up behind Danny, pressing himself flush to his back, hands on his hips. Danny leaned back into him, turning his head to press a kiss to his jaw, and lacing his fingers in Steve’s where they gripped him. Danny continued to nuzzle into his jaw and Steve thought he just might be getting some afternoon delight. As he moved his hands from Danny’s grip and down toward his groin there was a sizzle in the air and Steve found himself grasping air and falling against the counter.
“What the-“ Steve cut off as he whirled around to find Danny smirking at him from across the kitchen, a haze of static electricity jumping off his body to dissipate in the air.
“Sorry babe,” Danny smirked wider, not sounding sorry at all, “Folks will be getting here any time now.” With a flash of golden lightning and whoosh of air Danny vanished, leaving Steve aroused and frustrated against the counter.
***  Danny glared at the grill through narrowed eyes as he pressed the ignitor button again. A brand new grill and the damn thing wouldn’t light. Giving up on the little red button Danny snapped his fingers and shot a thin bolt of lightning under the grate, igniting the gas. Danny stepped back as the flames leapt higher than expected, closing his eyes against the light.
“Whoa, Uncle D, be careful,” Danny opened his eyes to find a transparent bubble around the grill, “You wouldn’t want to be BBQ before you get hitched.” Eric stepped next to him and opened his closed fist, causing the bubble to break apart.
“Big bubble, and hollow, you been practicing?” Danny asked as he started dropping burgers on the grill.
“Here and there, yea. Don’t really need it much in the lab.” Eric replied with a shrug. Eric had never been comfortable with his status as a mutant and, until recently, had only learned basic control over his abilities. Danny blamed Eric’s dad. The man, despite dating Stella, had been extremely anti-mutant. It was kind of ironic in Danny’ opinion. Stella, like Matty and Clara, weren’t mutants, and since women could only pass on the X-gene if it was active, Eric’s X-gene had been inherited from his dad as men passed on the X-gene regardless of activation. Danny had been helping him as much as he could but between working, spending time with the kids, his own training, and everything that had happened with Charlie…Danny knew he had slacked. As he watched Eric walk away to get a drink he resolved to do better.
Danny didn’t have long to linger on morose thoughts as others started to arrive. It had taken a week for them all to get together to celebrate his and Steve’s engagement. Danny refused to call it an engagement shower. He’d always thought that was a stupid phrase. This was just another team BBQ, he and Steve just happened to be engaged now.
“Howzit Brah Congratulations to my favorite haole.”  Kamekona’s greeting was all the warning he got before he was hoisted up into the man in question arms. Kamekona may not have been a mutant but was still strong enough to life him off his feet.
“Thanks’ Kamekona,” Danny replied as he was set back on his feet, “And before you ask, you’re in the running for catering.” Danny patted the big mans’ shoulder and Kamekona beamed.
“O’course I am bruddah. Best shrimp and shaved ice on the island,” Kamekona puffed out his chest as he spoke, “I got da menu already planned-” Kamekona made to go on but Danny was saved by the timely arrival of Adam carrying a covered tray.
“Kono told me to give you these,” Adam spoke with a smile as he pushed the tray at Danny, “Mahi-mahi, her grandma’s special marinade. She say’s they’re best on the upper grill.”
“Auntie Kalakaua’s famous mahi-mahi,” Kamekona exclaimed before Danny could say anything, “I been trying to get that recipe for years!”
“Keep dreaming Kamekona,” Kono announced as she appeared carrying two beers, “Tutu won’t even tell me what she uses in the marinade, and she claims I’m her favorite.”
“Are one of those for me?” Danny nodded to the beers. He didn’t mean to be rude but he was pretty parched. Kono smiled at him and handed over one of the longboards. Before Danny could take it though it floated out of Kono’s grip and over to hover in front of Adam.
“Whoops...sorry about that.” Adam blushed, face becoming a mask of concentration as he starred at the bottle. After a moment it hovered back toward Danny, “I was just thinking about how thirsty I was.” Adam explained as Danny took hold of the bottle.
“It’s all yours, if you want.” Danny held the bottle out to him but Adam shook his head.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll get one from the cooler.” Adam turned away with a smile. Before anyone could make a move though the cooler, which Danny had sat in the shade at the edge of the lanai earlier, lifted off the ground and came hurtling toward Adam.
“Whoa, watch out!” Danny heard Eric shout before the cooler was encased in a large bubble. Danny turned to see Eric standing nearby, hand outstretched.
“Sorry, sorry!” Adam called out, stricken, as he marched over to the hovering cooler, “Alright Eric, I got it. You can let it go.” Danny watched as Eric nodded, letting his arm fall slowly and the force field bubble dissipated.
The blue and white yeti dropped a few inches as the bubble vanished but Adam, hands outstretched, pushed it back into the shade before letting it drift slowly to the ground.
“Sorry again all. I swear I’m getting better at this. Sometimes it just...does what it wants.” Adam spoke to the ground, back still to the rest of them. Both he and Kono moved to comfort him but Eric got there first.
“Don’t worry about it man,” Eric told him as he pulled two beers from the cooler, “This mutant thing is a pain in the ass sometimes. There are still days I can’t control it. At least once a week I knock something over because I accidently make an orb.”
“Two days ago I tried to pull a pen to me from across the room,” Adam huffed a small laugh, “It shot past my head and embedded in the wall. I still don’t know what happened.” Eric laughed too and, slinging an arm around Adam’s shoulders, the pair walked off, comparing power-mishaps.
“He really is doing a lot better,” Kono told him as the pair got out of ear shot. Kamekona having vanished inside, “I think he’s just really happy today, for you guys and because he got accepted into a LMT program. Just found out today.”
“That’s great, the one out on the North Shore?” Danny asked and Kono nodded with a smile, “I hear it’s the best one for helping latent mutants get a handle on their powers.” Danny had looked into the program when Eric first moved to the island but since his powers had manifested during puberty he didn’t meet the criteria.
“Yea, we’re both hoping it helps. Adam is bored to tears sitting around at home but he can’t risk working outside the house with his powers spiking. Inhibiter bands make him sick, even at the lowest setting.” Kono explained and Danny nodded with a frown. Psionics, almost universally, couldn’t use inhibiters without getting sick. Something about certain areas of their brains being overly developed. Danny wasn’t too sure how the science worked. He had never had to worry about it growing up, inhibiter tech had just been starting out, and as he grew up and reached Omega-Level they were useless on him anyway.
“You guys will get it figured out, and me and Steve are always here for you two, you know that.” Danny held out his arm as he spoke and Kono stepped into a one-armed hug.
“I’m going to go call Chin, see where he and Abby are.” She said as she stepped out of his embrace.
As she walked away Danny turned back to the grill, checking the burgers and fish. Steve was making kebabs and there’d be dogs soon. Despite being deliriously happy, he was marrying the man he loved and soon the back yard would be filled with more of his found family, he couldn’t help feeling a bit sad.
“Thinking bout the kids?” Steve’s voice and arms wrapping around his waste surprised him. He hadn’t been sensing.
Shutting the grill and leaning back into Steve’s embrace Danny hummed in agreement. Rachel, despite claiming she was extremely happy for him and Steve, hadn’t been willing to compromise on the visitation schedule and let Grace an Charlie come to the party. She made the excuse of there being some big social function the kids absolutely had to attend with her on the big island. Danny didn’t need to monitor her electrical signals to know she was lying, (not that he did that anyway. People lied everyday if you tracked every one of them you’d drive yourself crazy so Danny more or less shut off that particular ability most of the time.).
Steve had offered to reschedule the party, hell everyone had, but today was the only day for the foreseeable future that worked for most of everyone else. Chin, Abby, and Sara would be coming soon, as would Lou and Renee; their kids had plans with friend. Noelani was working, and Jerry had some convention on the mainland he was going to. Steve had offered to fly Mary-Ann and Joan out but his sister hadn’t been able to get off work.
“We’ll get them on your next visit and the four of us will go out and paint the town red,” Steve told him with a kiss behind his ear, “And since you get them for winter break we’ll spend Christmas in Jersey.”
“It’s our engagement party Steve, you were already getting laid, you didn’t have to kiss my ass.” Danny told him happily. He had been wanting to spend Christmas is Jersey for the last few years but they hadn’t managed it.
“I plan to do more with your ass later on than kiss it,” Steve growled in his ear before kissing his jaw, “Besides, I wanted to butter you up given what I’m about to do.” With that Steve let his arms fall from around his waist and walked around him. It wasn’t until then that he saw the studded straps Steve wore on his wrist.
“Come on babe, it’s a party.” Danny whined half-heartedly. He didn’t really mind, so long as the others didn’t.
“And I’m gonna have some fun,” Steve spoke with a smile, spinning to look at him before turning back around, “Yo Adam, E-Train. Let’s play around.”
Danny just shook his head, smiling, as the pair groaned.
***  Steve couldn’t help but smirk as both Adam and Eric groaned. He wasn’t going to push it if they didn’t want to. He never did. Well, almost never did. But he was feeling good and he wanted to play. Plus both of them could use the training. Thankfully both of them were smiling as they set their drinks aside and followed him to the beach.
Once in the sand Steve gave his arms a little shake and the studs on his wrist bands dropped. Catching the fourteen studs with his powers before they hit the ground Steve brought them up to circle around him.
“Whenever you two are ready.” Steve said with a smile. About eight feet on both sides of him Adam and Eric took up pseudo-defensive stances. He didn’t often get to play against both of them but it was always much more fun when he did. The pair nodded and, without further warning, Steve flexed his powers. Starting small he sent three at each of them. From the corner of his eye he watched Adam making grasping motions, trying to pull the studs from Steve’s control. He managed to get two of them but the third caught his left shoulder with a solid pock. Steve instantly pulled that one back toward him and turned his focus toward Eric.
Eric had stopped his studs easily. Hands still In front of his chest, pinky and ring fingers curled with middle, fore, and thumbs crooked slightly, he had created a wall of orbs to protect him. The orbs, compressed and re-ordered air molecules, gave like mesh and caught the momentum.
Narrowing his eyes Steve pushed, scattering the studs around the wall; looking for weaknesses he could push through. Not finding one he pulled them back. Before they could travel too far the wall fell and the studs were encased in orbs. Steve pulled harder but Eric kept them from him. Splitting his focus Steve kept pulling while he turned his focus back to Adam. As he turned his head to face Adam directly he had a moment to appreciate the high speed at which the studs were circling above Adam’s palm before they were being launched at him. The studs were small, the size of shooter marbles, and Adam sometimes had trouble building momentum with them.
Adam, despite growing up in the Yakuza, (or perhaps because of it), would never attack when he thought Steve’s back was turned or his focus elsewhere. Even though Steve could sense the metal. Steve stopped the studs easily, redirecting them around him and toward Eric, before shooting four more toward Adam; two high and two low.
Intending to track the studs around Adam, keep him guessing, Steve’s focus was pulled as two impacts hit him. One in the shoulder and one in the back of the knee. Looking down he watched two of Eric’s orbs dissipate, revealing his studs. In the back of his mind he set the ones toward Adam to spin around him, varying speed, and focus on Eric.
“Since when can you do that?” Steve barked with a grin. Before Eric could only return the studs by bouncing them off his force-fields. He had never known him to be able to throw the orbs.
“I been practicing.” Eric replied, casting up a wall orbs to catch the two studs. Prepared this time Steve divided them, sending one up and the other two to the left. Eric moved the orbs to keep blocking them but as he did Steve ripped the third stud from earlier, which Eric had kept in an orb by his side, free and sent it into Eric’s hip. Eric yelped and jumped.
The studs had pea-sized metal balls in the center that were then layered with fabric and a rubber outer coating. They didn’t hurt very much on impact unless Steve wanted them to, and playing like this he didn’t want them to, but the initial impact did sting.
Pulling the freed stud back to him, letting the other two keep moving around while Eric blocked and tried to encase them, he turned back to Adam. Steve was impressed to see that Adam had caught two of the studs, holding them at bay in front of his hand, while he worked to stop the others. With a jerk of his head Steve tried to pull the two frozen studs back, to his surprise they would not move.
With a smile he watched as Adam, face a mask of concentration, curled both hands into fists; tightening the control of the two frozen studs and stopping the other two in midair. Not willing to give them up Steve pulled at all four studs, yanking them in different directions. He was only using a fraction of his powers, Adam knew that as well, and it would be easy to yank them out of Adam’s control. But that wasn’t the point of the game. Not really.
Raising left hand toward Adam he linked the four studs to his fingers. Letting his fingers move up and down, curl and uncurl, he kept testing Adam’s control and turned back to Eric. Eric had managed to catch one stud but was still holding off the other as it move in accordance to Steve’s subconscious. Taking full control of the stud he sped it up, and then sent two more toward Eric. Smile widening even further Steve watched as Eric adjusted. Instead of continuing to moving his shield of orbs around, and try to block the new ones, Eric brought his hands together; finger tips touching to make the form of a ball. Doing so Eric called up a dome shield around him, but it also freed Steve’s fourth stud from the orb that had encased it.
Steve was thoroughly impressed. Though he wasn’t fully trying to free them Adam was still managing to keep control of the studs around him, they quivered and moved minutely as Steve tried to take full control. Steve spun the ones around Eric faster, pushing them against the dome of orbs in search of a weakness. Like with Adam, Steve could force them through the orbs if he wanted. Doing so would likely hurt Eric though. Instead he moved them, applying increasing pressure at random places to split Eric’s focus.
Deciding to end the game Steve was just about to send the remaining studs to overwhelm his friends defenses when the sky suddenly began to dark. As lightning started to arc between the clouds Steve let all the studs drop out of his control as he turned his skyward. Growing up on the island, and years working with Chin, had taught Steve the difference between a natural storm and a created one.
With a flash of gold light and quiet whoosh Danny was by his side.
“Easy babe, it’s Chin…but I don’t know what’s up with the show.” Danny gestured above them as the clouds continued to thicken. Circling his hands Steve called the studs back to his straps as Kono jogged over to them.
“Chin never answered when I called. Neither did Abby.” She looked worried and eyes the sky. Steve didn’t need to be a psionic to know she was trying to reach Chin telepathically.
“Uncle D, something going on?” Eric asked as he and Adam moved to join them.
“No idea kid, keep your orbs ready.” Danny replied, scanning the area for Chin.
“There.” Adam pointed just above the house. The five of them turned to see Chin shooting over the house toward them at top speed.
“Chin what’s wrong, are Abby and Sara okay, you never use your powers like this unless it’s an emergency?” Steve questioned as Chin touched down in front of them. Chins eye cleared of their lightning white and the lightning overhead stopped, but the sky remained cloudy.
“They’re fine. I told them to wait at the house. I was leaving the office when this,” Chin held up what looked like a thin sheet of metal, “Fell out of the sky in front of my bike. It’s got your name on it.” Chin held out the metal to him and Steve took it. It was lighter than it looked, sturdy, and about a foot by foot square. On the front of it was Steve’s mutant codename, Ferron.
Realizing that the spikey calligraphy of his name was part of the metal, not written or stamped, Steve immediately knew who it was from.
“You all need to stand back,” Steve ordered, hardening his tone, “Now!” He added when none of them made any move to listen to him.
“I’m not going anywhere babe.” Danny rested the hand bearing the promise ring Steve had given to him on his shoulder.
The others all nodded or voiced their agreement and Steve growled in annoyance.
“I don’t know what will happen when I open this. It…it’s from Lehnsherr.” Steve told them and a fission of understand seemed to pass through all of them.
“I can contain it while you open it..” Eric offered quietly and Adam nodded.
“I can spin out a field around Eric’s orb. It’s not the strongest but it’s another layer of protection.” Adam added.
“And if Magneto is stupid enough to send you something dangerous I can zip us out of here. Though I might need a hand with Big Man.” Danny nodded to Kamekona, who was happily manning the grill.
“Erik wouldn’t do that, I don’t think at least.” Steve replied quietly. He hadn’t seen his old mentor in years and while they hadn’t parted on good terms he didn’t think Erik would try to hurt him.
“Should we call…someone?” Kono chimed in and Steve shook his head. He knew the ‘someone’ she meant. They all did. The Sentinels. Their presence on Hawaii was small, and they were nowhere near as influential as they had been in the  80s and 90s, but Steve would never work with them if he could help it.
“No,” Steve replied as he levitated the letter, “Eric, Adam, do your thing.” The two nodded and once the metal was encased in a large orb and a slightly shimmering field of telekinetic energy Steve went to work.
Wrapping his mind and powers around the sheet of metal Steve followed the electro-magnetic pattern embedded in the metal. He formed it into a floating ball of metal before reforming it into a new sheet of metal. The black of his old code name now spread out to form smaller words across the surface.
“Danny, I don’t think there was anything embedded. No nanites or microbes. I didn’t detect any kind of signal either. Can you fry the air inside the orb, just incase?” Steve asked and Danny nodded.
Danny moved a bit closer and, after Adam withdrew his field, pressed his hand to Eric’s orb. In an instant the inside was light with a near blinding flash of electricity. Secure that anything nefarious, organic or mechanical, was now fried Steve pulled the slightly smoking sheet of metal free of Eric’s orb.
“ ‘Steven J McGarrett and Daniel Williams are hereby invited to a dinner in their honor on the Sovereign Island Nation of Genosha by its Governor Erik Lehnsherr and his family, to celebrate their engagement and impeding nuptials.’ ” Steve read, his ire growing with every word.
“Erik Lehnsherr, former mutant terrorist, is inviting us to dinner on his illegally created island to celebrate us getting married. He KNOWS we’re getting married? What the fuck?!” Danny burst out, grabbing for the sheet of metal where Steve was still levitating it.
“I don’t know,” Steve offered quietly as he let Danny take the apparent invitation, “But I’m going to find out.”

The smile on her face isn’t warm. It isn’t inviting. It isn’t there to make anyone feel better. Instead, it is cold. As smile that could chill someone to the absolute bone, if that was what she intended. Eyes their usual ice blue, but somehow sharper. They aren’t the green that accompanies the rage of Jade. No, this is all Anna. She wants Tony to know that it is all her.
“You did this.” The words carry a bite, a sting, despite how level she makes her voice. No screaming, no yelling, he doesn’t deserve that. “He would never have been on those steps if it wasn’t for you. My daughter would have her father if it wasn’t for you.” A slow breath moves her shoulders. “But I’m calm, Tony. I’m completely calm. I want you to know how calm I am when I watch life bleed from your eyes.”

"Curvy like a cursive font, virgin and vixen..." A small swig from the bottle in her hand, annoyance etched on her face. Yet another failed date landed here with Winn. It was becoming extremely commonplace. "That's the kind of girl he wants." Did she look like the kind of woman who would put up with that? Was it her size that made her a magnet for assholes? "But I told him this ain't build a bitch, you don't get to pick and choose! Different ass and bigger boobs? If my eyes are brown or blue?" A little bit of a mutter around the rim of the bottle, before she sat it aside. "Anyway, darts? I need a distraction."

Tumblr media
Something at the core of her has begun to build. There is pain, to be certain, but what stands out the most is rage. White hot, burning through her like it just might burn her up. The worst part? She’s started to feel like less herself, like the rage has begun to take its own form and she isn’t sure she can stop it.
“Pity me?” She grits out through bloodied teeth, the copper fresh on her tongue. A laugh that doesn’t sound quite like her own bubbles up and she spits a mouthful of red in his face. “When I get out of here,” a menace threads through her words that isn’t her own either, “and I will get out of here, you’ll understand that you shouldn’t have pitied me. You should have feared me.” Another spit of crimson, this time on the floor, as Anna tries to reconcile what’s happening in her mind. Or, rather, who.

If eyes could have rolled any further back, they would have. Truth be told, Anna was getting tired of the attention. Not that she’d ever been particularly fond of it in the first place, but this had begun to border on ridiculous. After all, how many times could a woman be tortured in ways that they hadn’t been before? These people were running out of ideas.
Honestly, putting another mutant in front of her wasn’t all that impressive or interesting. “On a scale from 1-10, you’re at a negative 20, pal.” Shoulders shrugged as much as they could in the confined space. There were ways to get out of it, of course, but those ways required strength she didn’t currently have. Stupid sedatives. “Listen, I get it, more torture. Gotta bring out the beast for the bosses, right?” A soft snort. “Trust me when I tell you that’s not something you want. You don’t wanna meet Jade. Me? I can be nice. Hell, I’m being nice right now. But Jade? Oh, she’s a real bitch.” Arms shifted slightly to test restraints. “You set her free? Any illusion of control you think you have is goin’ right out the window.”

It seemed to Anna that she was forever being placed in the position of having to leave her husband behind. Be it for his safety or her own, it happened far too often. This time? This time, she would not leave him. She would never leave his side again. But especially in moments like these. “Do not ever ask me to leave your side when you’re wounded and bloody again.” Her words were fierce, eyes bright. She reached to rip away the bottom of her skirts, eyes trained on the blood that seeped across his skin. “I’m going to do what I can to staunch this bleeding and then we are leaving together.” For a moment, she softened, leaned up to press a kiss to his jaw. “You’re my world, James Fraser. I can’t keep leaving the one thing that makes me whole, don’t you understand that?”

For a brief moment, Anna can’t breathe. Can’t think. Sure, they’ve been getting closer, even she can’t deny that. No matter how hard she’s tried, and it’s been very hard. There was still a part of her, however, that hadn’t believe it would ever go this far. Part of her that has believed this whole time that it had to be nothing more than a bit of silly flirtation that would lead nowhere.
Then, his lips are on hers. There is no force behind the kiss. It’s surprisingly warm, gentle, thorough. She can’t remember a time when she’s ever been kissed like this. Her body leans into his, molds against him, as her head tilts up for more contact. What comes next? She has no idea, but doesn’t matter, either. Right now, she just wants to be in the moment for once in her life.
