I will say that i do enjoy the 'merry is yukari' theory - and i will be all for it if it is true. but as far as this blog goes, if zun does wind up confirming this somehow in the upcoming album, i will still be sticking with the 'they are not the same person' theory for this blog. tldr: this blog follows a 'merry is yukari 2.0' theory, where she's following yukari's footsteps, letting me play with her bungling through the first steps as a youkai while leaving her future a blank slate. Im doing this purely for the fact that it gives me more options in terms of routes i can explore, while not making me feel like i'm portraying two separate characters on the same blog, and making me feel like i'm locked into eventually portraying yukari. So like... i enjoy the theory! i'm not against it! but i like the freedom not following it gives me. so that's whats up.

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:

In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.

A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.

In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.

Been walking with my wife about the little backstory war that we and our friends have made for our fate servant ocs, and realized that we don't have a berserker assigned.... and simultaneously realized that Cass would be a great fit for that position. So i guess Cass gets to have a previous summoning during the chaos of WWI. As a berserker. Just imagine a trojan soothsayer singing nonsense while walking through the absolute hell that were those battlefields, not batting an eye at the horrors and rambling something about even worse disasters yet to come.

Not unless someone wants to give her one. That was purely me just saying 'hi' and showing i'm alive by (hopefully) sharing my tcg luck. More importantly on the topic, Bri is not me - she is her own character, and actually giving her things i've received in irl (or intentionally imposing aspects of my own personality/situations onto her) would blur the 'muse =/= mun' divide, which i am infact deeply uncomfortable doing. if Bri somehow has a mew card, it would ideally be because someone (preferably another character) gave it to her. Even if one of her birds found something like that, she'd have no personal reason to use or keep something like a trading card around unless it is in some way highly valuable in some non-monetary way, like as a bargaining chip or sentimental/desirable item.

right - i nabbed the relevant setting information for arknights and set it up in the kanka profiles, so crown (and the other arknights muses) should link to their appropriate organizations, regions, world settings, etc.

So for folks who want to do a short deep dive into Terran History/Biogeography and What Exactly Is Going On With The Animal Folk Disease Rock Hell Planet, all of that will be up on Kanka eventually.
