What's a nonbinary equivalent to "girl"/"boy" (infantilizing)?

I know "kid" is sometimes used in an infantilizing/slightly derogatory way, but I feel it still implies a young age, which I want to avoid (target of the expression is MC).

All the other suggestions I found are about terms of endearment, but this is not what I need, it should be infantilizing, rude, condescending...

(context: MCs with beauty type "cute" are generally not taken as seriously/not being thought capable of violence; in this particular case, the man who thinks so takes a blade/bullet to the head right afterwards)

But none of that matters anymore. The statues and temples of old have crumbled into dust and the woods burned away in the fires of industry.

Yet you are still there today, unknown and uncaring, hidden in the rubble of this broken world, in which a humanity far beyond its peak slowly grinds towards its own erasure.

Although fatigue should be unknown to you no matter what physical form you assume, you find yourself to be tired. That's why you chose to become a mortal bird, fragile but free, and seek out one of the few remaining forests to starve to death in relative peace - not that you're sure what death actually means to a being like you.

But as you come to rest on the branch of a lone maple tree in the midst of countless birches, you find that you are not alone... a human is bleeding out beneath your tree.

Radovid, Adda and their little heir Stefan 🦅

In my headcanons in The Whitcher 3, Adda is pregnant. Before that, spouses could not conceive a child for about a year, but Adda and Radovid did not lose hope. The king severely punished those who dared to offend his wife and those who said that she would not be able to give birth to a healthy heir… only monster.

While Radovid was in Oxenfurt, Adda visited him on the ship. And after a while, when Adda returned to Tretogor, she found out that she is pregnant. The joyful queen sent a letter to her husband. How happy Radovid was at that moment! And so, the king returns home with a victory, and he is met by a pregnant queen. A few months later, their long-awaited son Stefan, the Eaglet of Tretogor, is born.

В моих хедканонах в третьей части игры Адда беременна. До этого супруги около года всё никак не могли зачать ребенка, но Адда с Радовидом не теряли надежды. Король сурово наказывал тех, кто смел обижать его жену и тех, кто говорил, что она не сможет родить здорового наследника…лишь чудовище.

Пока Радовид был в Оксенфурте, Адда навестила его на корабле. А через некоторое время, когда она вернулась в Третогор, Адда узнала, что беременна. Счастливая королева направила письмо мужу. Как же Радовид был счастлив в тот миг! И вот, король с победой возвращается домой, его встречает беременная королева. Встречаем лето с библиотекой!

К Дню защиты детей в библиотеках города и с нашим участием прошёл ряд увлекательных праздников, посвящённых началу лета, школьных каникул и прекрасного времени для отдыха и чтения. В сегодняшнем дайджесте – рассказ о некоторых из них.

В библиотеке-филиале № 6 состоялась игровая программа «Когда на планете хозяева дети». В мероприятии приняли участие дети, подростки и их родители из близлежащих жилых домов микрорайона Скачки. Заведующая филиалом Наталья Пляскина подготовила викторину «Волшебный сундучок». В ходе мероприятия дети с удовольствием читали стихи, разгадывали кроссворды, отвечали на вопросы викторины, скла��ывали пазлы, тематика которых была посвящена сказкам разных народов.

В библиотеке-филиале № 8 им. А. Ф. Мосинцева 1 июня прошла игровая программа «Дружба верностью сильна». На праздник были приглашены дети из детского пришкольного лагеря Образовательного центра «5 из 5». Много конкурсов, подвижных игр, загадок не оставили ребят равнодушными. Завершилось мероприятие конкурсом рисунков на асфальте. Праздник стал ярким и весёлым началом летнего отдыха для всех, кто принял в нём участие.

В библиотеке-филиале № 11 для детей пришкольного лагеря школы № 14 были организованы литературно-игровы�� забавы «Летнее чтение + весёлое приключение». Библиотекарь Татьяна Казначеева подготовила для юных книгочеев – учеников коррекционных классов – познавательную, обучающую и оздоровительную рубрики по страницам произведений любимых детских писателей и поэтов К. Чуковского, А. Барто, С. Михалкова, В. Драгунского и Г. Остера. В восторг привели детвору весёлый конкурс «С ног на голову», викторина «Маски-шоу», творческая инсценировка русской народной сказки «Репка».

Кроме этого, сотрудники Централизованной библиотечной системы города Пятигорска 1 июня посетили летней лагерь «Орлёнок». В этот день библиотекари работали на двух площадках слёта «Орлята России»: сотрудники филиалов № 9 и 12 провели игровую интерактивную театрализованную программу «Сказочный Микс», представив для малышей мини-спектакль по мотивам русских народных сказок, подвижные игры, литературные викторины. Ребята отгадывали загадки, рисовали с закрытыми глазами «Красну-девицу» для Емели. Работники Центральной детской библиотеки им. С. Михалкова вместе с ребятами совершили этнический экскурс «Казачьи забавы» в рамках Года народного культурного наследия. Дети познакомились с традициями и обрядами ставропольского казачества. Библиотекари напомнили участникам мероприятия о летнем чтении, о том, как интересно в библиотеке, благодаря которой летние каникулы будут не скучными, а пройдут увлекательно, интересно и познавательно.

25 января все студенты в России с удовольствием отмечают свой любимый праздник – День студента.

А ещё в этот день принято поздравлять представительниц прекрасного пола, носящих красивое имя Татьяна.

Татьяна Ховрякова учится на четвёртом курсе в Уренском индустриально-энергетическом техникуме по специальности «Дошкольное образование». Милая, добрая, скромная, открытая и жизнерадостная девушка с ласковой улыбкой и лучистыми глазами покоряет своим обаянием с первых минут общения. Таня всегда готова прийти на помощь близким, друзьям, подругам. Учёба ей даётся легко, учится она с большим желанием. Профессию воспитателя дошкольного учреждения Таня выбрала не случайно.

– Я очень люблю детей. Моя мама не раз обращала внимание, что я много времени уделяю своим племянникам, играю с ними в разные игры, читаю им сказки. Она и посоветовала мне поступить в наш техникум и стать воспитателем дошкольного учреждения. Я ни разу не пожалела о своём выборе. Ведь моя будущая работа – любовь и забота, – рассказывает девушка.

Производственную практику Таня проходила в детском саду «Орлёнок» в своём родном посёлке. Племянники племянниками, а тут перед ней оказалась целая группа малышей и все с разными характерами, интересами, секретами. Но Таня со всеми малышами нашла общий язык и стала большим другом для маленьких непосед.

Орлёнок (Eaglet)

Орлёнок (Eaglet) is an interactive story set in a country similar to 1910s-1920s Russia. You're a member of the overthrown Imperial Family, shaping the future of the Empire by virtue of arms.

It aims to be equal parts role-playing, dress-up and strategy game, with an emphasis on romance.

Although there will be no explicit nsfw scenes, it does include graphic descriptions of the horrors of war as well as personal tragedies, so please refer to the content warnings at the end of this post.

(as the project is still a wip, this overview is somewhat incomplete and will be gradually updated in tandem with the progress of writing)

The Empire of Nevetskiya - old, proud, and utterly dilapidated. While the Industrial Revolution has enabled other Monarchies - after a few quickly suppressed workers' uprisings - to become modern colonialist superpowers, exerting their influence all over the world, Nevetskiya is still overwhelmingly agrarian, and barely holding onto its outlying territories acquired in golden times long past.

Your Father Emperor, while ruling with an iron fist and unquestionable authority over the common people, is completely dependent on the shaky loyalty of the High Nobility, who frustrate any attempt to modernize the economy or administration, out of fear upstart merchants might, in time, replace the old Aristocracy.

When a sloppily executed coup d'etat eventually leaves your family dead and you a refugee, it becomes time you grab the reins of your destiny and amass an army to liberate and rebuild the country in the way you envision.

Their work is a mystery to seemingly everyone, but they always get results: as long as you let them act freely, no enemy agent has any chance to harm you or your cause.

The Cavalry Officer (gender-selectable)

One of your four original companions. A war hero and renowned expert when it comes to horses, the only reason they were not yet promoted to a lofty position in the War Ministry is their pragmatic approach to new developments, which hasn't mixed well with the typically very traditionalist views of the old Imperial officer corps.

Possessing a subdued but strong charisma and deeply respected by their soldiers as a wise parent figure, they are a solid pillar of support to you, and will reliably get things done - though some people might consider the cost for that too high sometimes.

The Young Visionary (gender-selectable)

One of your four original companions. They shot up through the ranks by impressing the War Ministry with bold new ideas for utilizing modern technologies and are hailed as a genius by many - though the older officers dismiss them as a dreamer at best and incompetent fool at worst.

With you, they hope to have found someone who'll appreciate their visions for the future - plus, their relative eccentrism has left them in dire need of a friend.

Their technical expertise might just prove to be the key to your success - if you can secure the foreign support needed to get the modern equipment needed to utilize it.

The Noble Academic (gender-selectable)

One of your four original companions. Born to wealthy nobles, they graduated the Imperial Officer Academy with perfect grades, and feel honour-bound to your family.

They were the one to gather your initial force of loyalists and act as your primary advisor. But their loyalty is to the Imperial system, with you just a symbolic representative - can you convince them that you and your vision deserve their loyalty beyond that?

The Hero (gender-selectable)

A young cavalry officer and leader of your Southern Forces. A protegé of the "other" Semyon/Selena, they lack their cynical pragmatism, but make up for it with a firm belief in the triumph of a better world.

Some may call their optimism naive, and their personality has been mockingly compared to a Golden Retriever, but they have proven time and time again that underestimating them on the battlefield results in a crushing defeat.

The Rebel (nb)

Leading an anti-authoritarian peasant uprising in the West, Nikola is more likely to be your enemy than your ally - but they don't seem to care enough about politics to refrain from flirting with you, so... there might be a basis of mutual understanding there?

Their personality is pretty sweet, at least - if you ignore the fact they'll cheerfully gun down prisoners if they feel like it.

Age: mid-20s

★ Rakhmil/Rakhilya Feldman ★

The Logistician (gender-selectable)

A member of the Western Rebel Army and best friend of Nikola's adoptive sibling, they've poured their soul (and countless nights without any sleep) into somehow maintaining the rebels' supply network in the face of their rapidly swelling numbers.

Unhappy with Nikola's carefree attitude, they might end up aligning with you instead in order to save their cause.

Age: late 20s

★ Arseniy Matveyevich Lebedev / Rozaliya Matveyevna Lebedeva ★

The Enemy (gender-selectable)

Grand Duke Lebedev, the main leader of the Aristocrat faction, stood by and watched when your family was executed. Arseniy/Rozaliya is their younger sibling, and serves as military commander of his personal forces that aid several warlords in their efforts to establish their own petty kingdoms.

But they're already uncomfortable with their brother's methods, and if you can convince them that you're not actually "an incompetent little puppet who's trying to ruin the country out of arrogant delusions", they might become a very valuable ally.

★ Lyudmila Demyanovna Naumova ★ (f)

A minor noble who reluctantly turned into a Warlord in order to protect her territory and her people. All she wants is peace - but she'll not hesitate to fight if she believes it necessary.

Unfortunately, you can't just ignore her - all must choose a side in this war - but you have options how to deal with her. Will you subdue her by force? Or fall back on the age-old option of political marriage to secure an alliance?

★ Jan/Jana Novotný ★ (gender-selectable, under certain circumstances)

A member of your Personal Guard who has distinguished themself and eventually rises to become its commander. Others might betray or doubt you, but Novotný only cares about one thing - your continued, unharmed existence.

And they will go to any lengths to guarantee it.

Now, he is directly supporting your rivals - but still, he is a very powerful man who claims to have only the country's best interests at heart, so is he really an enemy to be defeated? Or rather just a temporary opponent, whose support you should work to gain?

★ Sergei Razko ('Orlik') ★

The aged leader of your forces in the East. Affectionally called "Eagle" by his volunteer troop, he's like a Father to you - a role your actual father either never attempted to fulfill, or failed spectacularly at.

★ Pawel Dąbrowski ★

The leader of your forces in the West. A line officer you've met before - his excellent performance has led to him being personally decorated by your Father Emperor.

And your younger sibling had a crush on him back then...

★ Katariina 'Riina' Velkonnen ★

The leader of your forces in the North. A woman who seems to be made of steel; her troops are the epitome of discipline, and they kill with a cold fury that's only held in check by their low numbers, courtesy of the North's sparse population.

Nikola's adoptive sibling and Rakhmil/Rakhilya's best friend. After being forced to watch from their hiding spot as your Father Emperor's secret police tortured and killed their parents for suspected dissidence, they now fight desperately for a world without feudal oppression - though the methods they apparently have to employ to achieve that break their heart over and over again.

★ Grigoriy Antonovich Stepanov ★

A staff officer of your army who always agrees with what you say - and actually manages to defend these opinions quite eloquently.

Surely, that's a valuable talent - but can you really trust someone who never seems to have a stance of his own?

One of your direct rivals, a minor noble and Warlord who proves extremely hard to get rid of. His continued ability to raise new forces after each defeat is nothing short of a miracle considering his general reputation of being incompetent, choleric, arrogant, corrupt, and just generally a waste of a human being.

Then again, he is quite rich, so maybe it's not that much of a miracle at all - mercenaries have flooded into the country as soon as the Civil War began, and form a large manpower reserve for figures like him - though of questionable quality.

Как думаете, это Радовид вдохновляется стилем одежды Вернона или наоборот? Или это все у них от Фольтеста пошло (потому что Вернон видел в нем некую отцовскую фигуру, как и Радовид по вашим хедканонам)?

И как думаете, было ли между Верноном и Радовидом в прошлом соперничество за внимание короля Темерии (просто интересны ваши хедканоны на эту тему)?

Я думаю, что это просто общая мода на халаты и рубашки-туники среди реданцев и темерцев. Фольтест и правда придерживается похожего стиля, и я думаю, что это отголоски моды более раннего времени, нежелание одеваться в дублеты и выставлять короткие штаны и плундры напоказ ;) У каждого из героев есть свои стилевые особенности, например, Радовиду явно по душе вышивка, узорчатая ткань и цветочные мотивы (поглядите дополнительно на его доспехи из гвинта и на концепт одежды из артбука).

Что касается второго вопроса, то я не думаю, что между Радовидом и Верноном было соперничество за внимание Фольтеста. Здесь есть тонкий момент: Радовид и Вернон по-разному воспринимают отцовское отношение со стороны темерского владыки.

Король Темерии не раз видел юного реданского королевича ( например, на празднике в честь окончания Второй войны с Нильфгаардом). Вполне возможно, что Фольт, у которого "отцовская роль" ярко выражена, пожалел маленького Радовида, который в 13 лет потерял любимого отца и получил корону при таких трагических обстоятельствах.

Вряд ли Фольт пытался напрямую заменить Радовиду отца - это невозможно, ведь Орлёнок был очень привязан к Визимиру. Но Радя интуитивно чувствовал от короля Темерии какое-то отеческое покровительство. Скажем, Фольт отмечал успехи мальчика, давал советы. На каком-нибудь королевском пиру он мог бы сказать Радовиду: "Ты молодец, парень! Так держать! Отец бы тобой гордился!". 

Посмотрите, как неформально Радовид и Фольтест общаются в первом "Ведьмаке": подкалывают друг друга, шутят. Фольт называет реданского короля "парнем", и раз Радик это позволяет, значит у них и впрямь тёплые отношения. Недаром Фольтест был абсолютно уверен в короле Редании, выдавая за него замуж свою дочь, Адду.

Но Радовид не живёт в Темерии, с Фольтестом он пересекался нечасто, чего не скажешь о Верноне. Роше был у Фольтеста буквально на глазах, под присмотром: король вытащил его из пучины пьянства и нескончаемых драк, и вскоре юноша стал его правой рукой. И если Радовид с любовью в сердце хранит образ своего отца Визимира, то Вернон папу никогда не знал.

Для Роше Фольтест стал именно вторым отцом, потому что до этого он рос полной безотцовщиной. Для Радовида же Фольтест - это тот, от кого он чувствует такую же отцовскую заботу, которую дарил ему когда-то собственный отец. Для обоих Фольтест стал семьёй взамен той, которую они потеряли.

Для Радовида семьёй стала и Адда, а для Роше - Анаис. Удивительно, сколько отцовской любви было в Фольтесте. Но, боюсь, что Адда не испытывала к отцу того же...из всех детей с Аддой у Фольтеста были самые сложные отношения. Но это уже другая история...
