another example for why the demo was not done in January:
Tumblr media
On a specific route, you get to choose your favorite flower, and of course Yakov/Liliya reacts differently depending on what you pick, even though it doesn't matter mechanically at all; and of course the reactions also vary depending on previous choices.

another little sneak peek to apologize for the wait:
Tumblr media
(I really, really never intended to write routes like this, it just kind of happened)
uuuh... remember when I wrote this in the very first post about this project, in the forum's Interest Check Thread?
Tumblr media
Well, I... might have strayed somewhat from this.
I mean, shouldn't be that much of a surprise ever since I mentioned the word 'massacre' in response to an ask here, but...
Anyway. The scene is written now, and it's not really defensible in any way. I sincerely hope most people won't make that choice, and if they do, that they feel appropriately bad about it afterwards. At least it's short, I guess?
(sneak peek:)

What's a nonbinary equivalent to "girl"/"boy" (infantilizing)?
I know "kid" is sometimes used in an infantilizing/slightly derogatory way, but I feel it still implies a young age, which I want to avoid (target of the expression is MC).
All the other suggestions I found are about terms of endearment, but this is not what I need, it should be infantilizing, rude, condescending...
(context: MCs with beauty type "cute" are generally not taken as seriously/not being thought capable of violence; in this particular case, the man who thinks so takes a blade/bullet to the head right afterwards)

Some happy things happened lately*, so writing progress has been pretty good - now, if I managed to stop adding new variations all the time, I might actually get the demo release done soon.
* 1. a customer liked me so much she wants to send me a gift now and told my boss that everyone in her team loves me 2. I showed a text to my boss for approval before sending and he commented "a great reply by a great person" 3. my boss' dog is currently at the office often and usually stays with me all the time, boss is a bit jealous
I also almost got my head smashed in with a glass bottle last week, so I suppose these cancel each other out ("almost" as in "I did get a glass bottle smashed on my head but my skull held firm")

I really hated this girl in my class and we kept exchanging notes with various threats of violence on them but then on a Zoom call I saw that she kept a bunch of them pinned on her wall with little hearts around them and I got the biggest crush on her after that.

Something for you to read
Remember when you voted for me to post one of my old writing practices? Maybe you don't remember. It's okay. You can read it now, even if you didn't even vote.
LINK TO THE STORY (ao3)
I would advise you to keep in mind that this was written by a young teenager, but honestly, my autism shielded me from most psychological effects of puberty*, so I don't think such a disclaimer is really needed.
*apart from deciding that 'normal' suicide is cowardice, that I have to instead die in combat, and consequently trying to go to Ukraine as a volunteer for the Prizrak Brigade when I was 16 lmao

btw: chances are you don't need a VPN in the first place.
Don't listen to the aggressive YouTube advertising, it's a waste of money in almost all situations.
You do need a VPN when, and only when,
using public networks (other people in the same public network can theoretically track your activities if you don't use a VPN, but... whether that's a problem depends heavily on what activities there are)
you want to circumvent geoblocking (but there's dedicated websites and browser addons functioning like a VPN that do the same, and they are free)
A VPN does not protect you from tracking via cookies or from the government. They just have to ask the VPN company instead of your ISP for your internet history, and either are obliged to comply.
If you really want to avoid anyone tracking you, use Tor Browser (https://www.torproject.org/download/). It's free, it's developed by a nonprofit organization, and the whole darknet runs on it. Basically, it's a network of anonymous devices all over the world (you can also be a part!) which act as strung-together VPNs, making tracking from the target side completely impossible. There is also a mobile version available, and various methods to avoid tracking by other means.
Never use Surfshark VPN
I just wanted to make this post to warn yall about it, I am not a tech genius but I wanted to get a vpn and surfshark was one I knew about so i subscribed to them because it seemed ok, that was where I fucked up.
fast forward a year and now I am trying to cancel my yearly auto-renewing subscription which costs 70 fuckin bucks, didnt find much use in surfshark as it was too laggy when using its vpn services so i go to billing and try to cancel.
there was no cancel button so that was odd, and you cant turn off auto-renew so i figure ill just get rid of my card info so it cant charge me.
i cant or at least i cant figure out how.
I go to help and find the cancellation area after scrolling past why you should keep the subscription and it tells me to contact their live support to cancel, It requires my name and gmail, I know for a fact my gmail is correct but it says its wrong and that my name is wrong no matter how many ways I enter it and I cant find a possible username anywhere on the site i could use. Its for all practical reasons impossible for me to cancel, not just the fact I cant even talk to customer support, but the people on reddit that do, talk to a bot and then the agents take months to actually turn off the subscription so it charges again and there is no refunds.
dont use surfshark VPN

So do we get to create our own special banner for our faction? Also could we name it
You can make your own flag/banner, yes.
Up to three colours, can have a symbol, can have a motto written on it.
I'm not sure what you mean by name it, do you mean like the French flag is called Tricolore? In any case, there's no such feature atm

I need help deciding which scenes to work on in which order, so...
I'm really curious. The mysterious one (with childhood friend + friends-to-enemies-to-lovers options)? The dependable one (with mommy/daddy vibes)? The eccentric one (mad scientists make for great pets)? Or the one who sees you as a mere puppet of theirs at this point?

Okay, off-topic (or is it? this is the kind of stuff I listen to for inspiration), but this song is such a banger
youtube
impromptu translation:
The legend of the dead soldier - Summer 1918
And as the war in its fourth spring Did not have a prospect for peace The soldier drew his conclusion And died a hero's death.
But the war wasn't over yet So the Emperor felt sorry: That his soldier died Felt too soon to him.
Summer moved about the graves And the soldier was already asleep There, one night, came a military medical commission.
The medical commission went to the graveyard And, with a blessed spade, Dug out the fallen soldier.
The doctor thoroughly inspected the soldier Or what was left of him And the doctor found that the soldier was ready to serve And just dodging the danger.
And they immediately took the soldier with them The night was blue and beautiful If you didn't wear a helmet You could see the stars of home.
They poured strong booze Into his decayed body And put two nurses in his arms And a half-naked woman.
And since the soldier stinks of decay A priest limps in front Who waves a censer above him So he can't stink.
Forward the music Plays a lively march And the soldier, as he has learned, Throws his legs from his ass [marches quickly]
And brotherly hugging him Go two medics Otherwise he might fall into the dirt And that can't happen.
They drew on his shroud The colours black-white-red And carried it in front of him; The colours covered up the feces.
A gentleman in a tailcoat also walked in front With a stiffened chest He, as a German man, Was precisely aware of his duty.
So with music they walked Down the dark highway And the soldier staggered with them Like a snowflake in a storm.
The cats and dogs cry The rats in the field whistle wildly: They don't want to be French Because that's a disgrace.
And when they move through the villages All the women were there Trees bowed, the full moon was shining And everything yelled: 'Hurrah!'
With music and goodbyes! And woman and dog and priest! And in the midst the dead soldier Like a drunken ape.
And when they move through the villages Nobody saw him So many were around him With music and Hurrah.
So many danced and cheered around him That nobody saw him He could only be seen from above And there are only stars there.
The stars are not always there There comes a morning's red But the soldier, as he's learned Marches to a hero's death.

Can we make our MC an arrogant brat that believes their above everyone but when the civil war kicked off and the went all around country seeing things we would never see in our imperial lifetime like all the poor serfs and their living conditions and starts changing a little bit (I mean being an arrogant bastard and seeing the poor then being intently humble is a little bit to cliché at this point so staying arrogant while having a little bit of sympathy will be a nice change in pace)
Sorry, but no
I didn't even think of that possibility tbh and now it
a) would be waaaay to much work to include yet another personality facet stat (remember that they are divided into "outer" (behaviour) and "inner" (actual thoughts/feelings) personality, so every new facet introduces a whole bunch of new possible combinations, which I'd each have to write choices for in all scenes where it makes sense)
and b) it wouldn't make too much sense story-wise, because not only does MC already know the living situation of the poor very well (if only academically), it's also unlikely that anyone's arrogance would survive all the trauma in the Prologue but then get dissolved by standard, everyday misery

How do the common people view the Empire, the High Nobility, and the protagonist's family, and how might their support (or lack thereof) influence the story?
This is an agrarian, feudal society, so towards the Empire itself, there is little room for animosity, however well deserved it would be. The Church is a major factor in this, so going the Saint route might upset this stagnation.
I can't say much about the popularity of the nobles and the other members of the Imperial family, both because it differs a lot depending on the individual (noble/Imperial, not on the individual commoner), and because it'd be very spoilery. The MC is pretty popular among the common folk at the beginning, thanks to positive coverage by the newspapers, but as for why the newspapers have popularized the MC like this you'll have to find out later in the story.
Mechanics-wise, the people are divided into groups based on their economic/social standing and political orientation (specifically, there are the lower class, nobles, democrats, the church and the believers), and the actions you take will gain you the support of some groups and anger others (i.e. Saint route will get the believers on your side, but depending on your actions the Church might fight you).

Are there any external powers or neighboring countries that might support or oppose the protagonist's efforts to reclaim Nevetskiya?
Yes, there are several outside parties interested in the power struggle (though not to the historical extent of "23 countries send intervention armies").
Siding with the Tank faction will result in a lot of interaction with them, as the necessary equipment will need to be imported from them; but even apart from that, you'll have to balance getting foreign help with your own independence, otherwise you might rule over a quasi-colony at the end. Or you go full isolationist, but that makes the fight way harder resource-wise.
