Gerrit: Actually, it's always an interplay, isn't it?
Chris. I think I know what is meant. But it's not like I'm brutal towards women in some videos just like that, but a music video always tells a story. The bottom line is that it's an art installation in moving images. That's why, especially in the video you're watching, ask yourself, regardless of whether it comes from me and regardless of who the violence is against, why it's there. We've often read: "Lord Of The Lost hate women because of the videos". There is always a reason why something happens in the videos. For example, maybe you're alluding to Beyond Beautiful: What you see in that video, even though I hate to explain art, is an attempt to show how with very extreme passion and great love, how quickly the point is reached and how narrow the line is where love can tip over into violence or love into hate. What people may know from a relationship is that the people who hate each other the most are the ones who used to love each other the most. You don't hate someone so deeply that you didn't give a shit about them before. Unless someone comes into your life and kills your pet, then you hate the person and you didn't give a shit about them before. But you know what I mean, it's the normal, dynamic development. Beyond Beautiful is supposed to show exactly that, how narrow the line is, how quickly it can tip over. A bit like: when it's at its best, you should stop. Or as we know it with children: until someone cries. Another thing about Beyond Beautiful is that it is played backwards and the video ends in the kiss, so it is actually supposed to show a pure performance, a vision. It is not a video where senseless violence against women is depicted or glorified. Of course, I am aware that it can be understood that way if you don't discuss the meaning....
Gerrit: If you don't watch the video to the end
Chris: And of course that's always the danger with radical art, but non-radical art isn't interesting for us.
