A year in the life - Chapter 7: An Unexpected Visit
At that moment Rebecca's phone rang and she snorted, silently cursing whoever was ruining their girls’ lunch break. However, as soon as she fished it out of her bag and saw the name on the screen, her lips curved into a smile.
“It's the hot pilot, isn't it?” Keeley asked with a smug grin.
Rebecca rolled her eyes, hearing her friend using that nickname again and she jokingly reprimanded her, “Keeley! You know his name!” then she confirmed, “Yes, it's him. Excuse me for just one minute.”
“Of course, babe.”
“Hi, hon,” Rebecca greeted him in a sweet tone, answering the phone.
“Hi, gorgeous,” Matthijs replied from the other end of the phone, “Am I bothering you?”
“Never,” she replied quickly, “I'm having lunch with Keeley.”
Are we following each other? For some reason Tumblr shows you as followed when I click on your profile but on my feed it's showing the follow next to your username?!
‘In an unprecedented show of enthusiasm, Head Coach Roy Kent ran out onto the pitch with owner, Rebecca Welton, hoisted in the air on Saturday, as AFC Richmond celebrated winning the Grand Final in their debut season in the Women’s Premier League!’ ✨
Rebecca woke up at dawn, too excited to stay in bed any longer. It was the first Easter since Matthijs and Jelka had moved in, and she had prepared a surprise.
In the previous days, following a tutorial on the internet, she had painted eggs to hide in the garden. She actually had a lot of fun brushing up her artistic skills and she managed quite easily to decorate the eggs with cosy colours and designs, reminiscent of how much she liked to draw when she was younger.
(It's the first - and I think last - time I've ever posted something without a beta reader, so please forgive me if there are mistakes)
“Wat wil je vanmiddag met Phoebe doen?” Matthijs asked his daughter.
Despite Rebecca's Dutch still being rough, she knew the language well enough to understand that he was asking Jelka what she wanted to do with Phoebe in the afternoon.
Her focus stayed on the screen in front of her, though, until she heard the girl excitedly replying, “Mogen we schaatsen op de grace? Alsjeblieft!”
“On the canal what?” Rebecca asked not understanding everything Jelka said, but not liking the part that she got.
Rebecca goggled at Matthijs. He chuckled seeing her face and explained that it was a tradition there to go ice skating on the frozen canals during the coldest days.
“It's super fun!” Jelka yelled.
“It’s dangerous,” Rebecca rebutted, “Do people really do that?”
Rebecca was sitting in a not-so-comfortable first-class seat on a commercial flight.
It was Jelka’s first week of summer holidays from school and she was with her mother. Since Matthijs had three whole free days, Rebecca decided to visit him in Amsterdam.
But why the hell did she decide to listen to Nora and not take her jet? She asked herself, listening to the man next to her snoring loudly. Luckily the flight was short, and she quickly forgot about it while her mind got lost in memories.
