I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but my biggest gripe with My Hero Academia's writing is time and time again we see how society opresses quirkless individuals and kids with devastating quirks, and the villains are the only ones actively trying to change the corrupted hero system responsible for this inequity. However, we as readers are not supposed to root for them. Because they're villains (to be fair, their measures are extreme). We're supposed to root for Deku instead, but like... is Deku doing anything to fix the system? Deku himself suffered from years of bullying and broken dreams because he too was quirkless and oppressed. But once he was miraculously gifted a quirk he just ?? kinda became a slave to the system. idk. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Deku as a character, but I find it increasingly difficult to empathize with him as the protagonist. Also it's a bit patronizing seeing him triumph over students who haven't been granted similar luck like Shinsou or Mirio. The message that sends doesn't sit right with me.
