I really need to get some more menhera fits, because I adore alternative fashion but I never have the energy to wear it anymore and menhera is made to be easy and comfy but still so cute...
Idk where to find stuff like that for affordable prices though :< 🌸

RIKA KAWAI MENTION!! but seriously, when I first discovered her a couple years ago it felt incredible to finally be able to see myself represented through a character in that way, and it's why casual representation like that is so important- not only for that reason, but it definitely has informative purposes for others too

i think there’s something to be appreciated about new self harm representation. i don’t think there’s anything that’s more simultaneously stigmatized or romanticized than self harm, and it’s refreshing seeing stories told about self harmers that don’t revolve around their addictions.
of course mental heath is deeply prevalent in many of these, but the self harm aspect isn’t the primary focus of these characters’ stories and i find that deeply cathartic.
at the end of the day we are people. many of us are deeply troubled but i feel like to a mainstream audience a lot of them tend to forget that self harmers can be ordinary people so it’s nice seeing us represented as individuals beyond our addiction.

right now you might be in a situation that you think you won’t survive but six months ago you were in a situation that you didn’t think you’d survive and two years before that you were in a situation you didn’t think you’d survive and the point is you will always surprise yourself and you will always make it through

baby in the fashion here- can anyone tell me why it’s nearly impossible to find actual menhera coords anywhere?? im someone who is into decora already and wants to look into menhera as a more lowkey fashion to wear when literally going to the hospital as i do often nowadays. but when looking for inspiration or community i have to dig and dig to find any photos of actual clothing and the majority of what i actually do find is not comfortable easy to wear things like what i’ve been told this fashion is. have i been misinformed? are there tags im missing? or is it really just a desert out here for folks into menhera?

Sensory Friendly Clothing (Alt' Edition)
So, as an Autistic and ADHD having Hooman that mainly has an alt' or goth like aesthetic, it can be annoying to try to find cute and cool things that fit my vibe and not become a sensory Hell for me. The items that are usually used (fishnets, corsets, ETC) can be severely uncomfortable and can even cause some of us to have a breakdown because we're not comfortable wearing them. So, for this post I'm using personal knowledge from being Autistic and as someone who sews and crochets to help give ideas for alternatives for common items used in alt' fashion! Please remember that not everyone has the same sensory needs, so take this post with a grain of salt and try to find what best works for you! Mesh: Mesh comes in different types, Nylon, Polyester, ETC. But it can feel itchy especially if it rubs you the wrong way when the gaps are extra large. Luckily though, different types of yarn and crochet exist! Even if you're not good at crochet or just don't wanna make it yourself, there are people online that make mesh tops with different yarn fibers. Fibers To Get: -Cotton (Light and breathable and also softer, less likely to cause discomfort) -Polyester (Stronger than cotton, but not as breathable as cotton) Fibers Not To Get: -Wool (It shrinks if you don't take care of it properly, heavy and it can be itchy) -Acrylic (Itchy and scratchy, though cheap, but again, not recommended)
Tumblr media
Thigh highs, tights, ETC: Thigh highs, legs warmers, ETC are often made out of itchy and very sweat inducing material, and often times, don't even stay up (especially if you're bigger) so this can not only be uncomfortable due to sensory issues, but also just really goddamn annoying. If you are willing to spend the extra buck to buy the materials to make your thigh highs or tights or even just buy from a company, add this to your cart: Skin safe adhesive. It tends to be cheap (depending on the brand) and keeps tights and thighs high up on where they should be! Fabrics To Get: -Spandex (Stretchy and molds to the body depending on how loose you make it, but can be a pain to sew with a machine) -Cotton (Breathable, but not stretchy like Spandex) Fabrics Not To Get: -Nylon/Nylon based (While cheap, it grips the skin and tends to leave marks even if it's not too tight, it also is just kinda scratchy and it tends to rip if it gets snagged on something) -Wool (Itchy most times, and makes you sweat, unless you're wearing it due to winter, don't wear these)
Tumblr media
Accessories: Accessories are a good key for an outfit, they add that little chef's kiss! But depending on the material or reason, it can make it difficult to be worn. Try these instead: Earrings: Clip ons! Good for if you don't have pierced ears for whatever reason and easier to switch around! Necklaces: You don't have to wear a bunch of necklaces, keep it simple! Wear thin chain necklaces or soft cord necklaces! Rings: When wearing rings, choose ones that you can stim with! There are actually rings made specifically for stimming and are cheap! Just make sure to get them in a comfortable size for your fingers (especially if they swell for whatever reason)!
Tumblr media
Corsets: A lot of goth and alt' people wear corsets, and it's understandable why! But if you can't wear regular boned corsets, there are thankfully alternatives! Alternative Corsets: -Elastic (Very comfortable especially if you have back problems and since it's stretchy, it tends to mold to your body rather than just sinching everything in) -Fabric (Can be made with your fabric of choice in a rectangle shape that wraps around your body almost like a bandage and just needs metal grommets or embroidered holes) -Crocheted (Can be made to your liking with your favorite yarn and is easier to tie with since some yarns are stiffer and don't often need metal grommets)
Tumblr media
While this post isn't going over everything when it comes to more neurodivergent friendly alternatives with alt' clothing, I hope this at least gives you an idea and sparks inspiration in ya'!
