This x10000. Especially as he reads his speech, pauses, looks at her, continues. I think in his head it was like well it’s all or nothing now, if I don’t put this out there, I’ll never know.

It’s really amazing to watch the character development of Sonny. That’s why I think Rollisi becoming canon now is the perfect time. If you go back a few seasons, especially when he was a young detective in the squad there WAS a very innocent, platonic vibe. Like they were cute with each other, but he was very pure toward her (I know rollisi stans hate this but he had little brother vibes to me) she brushed him off a lot, maybe because she saw herself as his mentor in the squad. She liked his attention and his support but I don’t think she saw him as anything else but her partner and friend that she could rely on. I think in S19 as he became more comfortable in the squad he started to fall for her, and that scene where she blows him off at the door shows that she actually wasn’t interested and I think that’s because there was a bit of a power imbalance between them. It’s even more apparent when he’s upset by the whole encounter and she teases him with it in the squad room. In S20, their relationship sort of equalises and Sonny goes onto doing his own thing without her and starts to make decisions for himself and his life and his career (getting more involved with Stone from the legal side of things etc)

I think as soon as he went to the DA’s office, that’s when their dynamic changed. It was almost like a power move. She was no longer the ‘more experienced detective’. The time apart was good for Sonny because now he was in his element and his area where he could grow and shine. Almost like he was proving to himself he didn’t need her. He became more serious, less of a joker, more assertive. I think that change in him was when she started to see him differently. Like wow, he’s no longer this young detective who needs me. Then they have that fight in the squad room because now she’s catching feelings and Sonny has blocked her out completely because he’s just like, well you weren’t into me back then so I guess I’ll just do my own thing and Amanda was like wait what?! But I need you!

Anyway this was a bit of rambling, there’s more I could say about this but I’m probably not wording it well. I just think when you look back at old Sonny vs who he was in S21, it’s a character with huge growth, a lot more confidence, life experience and maturity. And looking at Amanda’s growth she’s become less chaotic and more settled and they’ve just grown so beautifully into each other. If this had happened 3 seasons ago it would’ve been chaotic and they wouldn’t have lasted. This was the perfect time.

LONG ROLLISI THOUGHTS INCOMIN

okay so now that i had time to really let Rollisi sink in i have so many thoughts..... i think Sonny def wrote the speech for Amanda....he didnt plan to but it just happened. in the scene where Liv comes in while hes working on it its obvious that hes trying too hard. when she said 'how about just love?' i think something clicked with him. just love. what hes feeling for Amanda. after his argument with Nicole, her not wanting marriage and a family, her not even willing to support him when he was supposed to officiate the wedding...he was hurt by being let down but maybe not hurt enough as someone should feel when a relationship ends. it surprised him how everything just came down to 'just love' and when he sat down that night to work on the speech again, all he could think of was Amanda

from that moment on it was kind of easy. i think he knew how Amanda felt about him. but he wanted her to admit her feelings, to show him. he wasnt afraid of rejection, not anymore. so when she asked him to read his speech that was it for him. he laid it all out in front of her, he was nervous bc it was a big step for him too. but he made it obvious. the words, the way he looked at her. and then seeing her reaction. you could tell from his body language that he felt confident, relaxed, so sure of himself and her feelings for him. and Amanda? she was so filled with love and happiness in that moment, she couldnt quite grasp it. she still couldnt believe that he could love her this much. that she was worthy to be loved by him. but she accepted it. she knew she had to bc it was now or never. she was so overwhelmed in that moment and he was just...waiting. when he saw her cry, first teasing her, then wiping away the tears....his hand lingering on her cheek, looking into her eyes. he knew. she knew. and then he leaned back, again, almost as if to coax it from her. the words, the actions. he was literally saying 'it's on you now. im here, all you have to do is reach out' and when she did...he didnt seem surprised at all. he just seemed...ready. maybe some slight disbelief 'this is really happening???' (like all of us lol) but then just...calm. and Amanda feeling the same way, finally knowing that for once she was making the right choice. for herself, for him, for her kids.

and then them just sinking into each other like yes this is exciting, this is new, but at the same time....this is home

Can we just appreciate how good that scene was. There’s a lot of pressure to get something like that right, especially after so many years of waiting, but they nailed it perfectly in a way that was so in character for both Rollins and Carisi, and so so so sweet
