“CACTUS CROWN:” The NEW ALBUM from REVEL ROSZ as DAKOTA SLIM is out! 

“CACTUS CROWN is a more realized continuation of the haunted, ramshackle / western pathos  SPARE SPELLS was only beginning to court.   

This is DAKOTA SLIM’s tenth release, but the first in many, many years.  It’s a true elevation of the junkyard/ foley-found-sound custom percussion sampling and “desert goth” hymnals conjured by metaphysical musings and custom magicks that only tinged the recent S:.S release, THE NARROWS. 

Thankfully,  SPARE SPELLS underwent some cosmic reconfiguring parallel to the creation of this record by exorcising an alcoholic and abusive collaborator. ‘Nuff said.

This did not affect this new DAKOTA SLIM record, as it was a wholly intentional piece of solo work meant to reignite the creative spark that the aforementioned S:S drama had left unfulfilled in me, even though I had spent 9 months writing, engineering, mixing and mastering the Narrows - it was a hollow victory upon release as I was soured with the majority of my collaborators last year. 

 So I broke away, and let the dust settle on a record that deserved more umph or push.  Sure, The Narrows is far from done (more on that later) but the witching hour of giving its proper due lapsed in a disgruntled sigh.  However, this proved to be a perfect catalyst as I went on to construct a record free of all the lofty ambitions of de-spirited collaborators with  CACTUS CROWN - reigniting and realizing my magicks more so than ever before.  CACTUS CROWN is my testament to the Love and Magick that riddled my life during that liminal time last year.

Everything I attempted or intended to do with the concept of S:S was realized without much stink or kerfuffle; simply and effortlessly.  This may be due to a change in collaborators, or, lack-there-of, but I digress...

About that Narrows (and S:.S) revival... percussionist/illustrator/bad-ass-dude Joel Hatmaker and I are still planning on releasing illustrated comic companion to the Narrows record/concept sometime in 2019.  As the story of S:.S changed, so did the folklore, and for the better, so we’re taking our time.   

Due to this DAKOTA SLIM resurgence and focus via the gracious press and championing of epic supporters (read Gabe Hart’s of Jail Weddings’ glowing press release for CACTUS CROWN here) I believe it’s almost time to unveil the new S:.S.  It has been allowed ample time to recast it’s key players and conjure future adventures in audiomancy , so look forward to a forthcoming announcement regarding its third transmutation.
