Found this on a Japanese website,

Tzitzimitl is usually Tyrant race, but her race kanji doesn’t match Chi You’s, so what race did they move her to now and does it fit her?

She's been moved to 邪神/Jashin, i.e. Vile. So, yeah, pretty big swing from Tyrant. I don't know how appropriate Tyrant really was for her in the first place, but these moves are mostly to accomodate balance issues, usually regardless of consistency; Tyrant was stuffed to the gills in vanilla SMTV, while Vile notably lacked any demons in the ~70 range, so... etc.

A couple months later, what are your thoughts on Vengeance so far? Did your opinions change, new thoughts on the revealed demons?

I've been at about the same level the whole time. Still think everything looks anywhere from 'basically inoffensive' to 'pretty good'- on the level of mechanics and design, at least.

More SMTV is a hard sell for me, though. That's a goddamn exhausting game. I don't know if I'm ready to go back to the UE3 sand dunes and that one model they made for the vending machines. No number of pretty good designs or new scenarios built on asinine/dated interpretations of ancient cultural ideas is likely to change that.

That being said: it could be good, instead of bad. I think there'll be more to discuss than last time. We'll definitely stream it whenever the game is out on the streets and safely cracked. I want that fucking small clout ooooh gimme gimme

Nyami Nyami, Onyakapon, Anansi!

Damn, they're all pretty good, too. Anansi especially is one of his best designs yet, I think. On a level with Sukuna Hikona and Mephisto. Finally, a fruitful application for the Doi peg-legs. I'd also be curious to know if Onyakapon is cribbed from anything in particular. I doubt it's directly adapted from any one traditional source, based on the overall construction and the continuity of these sort of art deco motifs, but maybe something Mizuki or Mizuki-adjacent.

He did mention in the Manananggal commentary wanting to design more demons from the cultures of the global south, so it's nice that he's not being suffocated by production demands in that regard.

Don't know how much you guys will care for it, but over at Youtube, a Youtuber by the name of Ice-Raptor has completed fantranslated playthroughs of Last Bible 1-3, Another Bible, Last Bible Special, and SMT Trading Card: Card Summoner, so you want to see any questions answered about these games, now's the perfect time to do so.

If it helps on when people ask you about obscure games in the SMT line, GameFAQs has a couple script translations for Ronde, BuffMaister has done playthroughs for Majin Tensei 1 + 2, and Seth Bop has done a playthrough for Giten Megami Tensei for you to look up answers when needed.

Thanks for looking out, but it would maybe be for the best if people simply didn't come to me for answers regarding games that I haven't played lol. Not that it happens very often, but I'm just no longer invested enough in the series to do independent research on titles that I consider too tedious to experience firsthand.

These are all fantastic resources, though, and the Giten playthrough seems especially valuable. I'll post the links below so that I can point back to this post as a potential resource; thanks for bringing them to my attention.

have you guys considered playing Etrian Odyssey? i guess the main thing is that the games are very long, and playing a big rpg for one stream would be kinda lame. still, i wouldn't be against it.

I think it's come up before, yeah. After all, Etrian Odyssey features the world tree, 'Yggdrasil', and like we at Streaming Knowledge always say: baby, that's technically mythology. We'll probably play one at some point; we're overdue for another Atlus variety stream, I think. We should also check out PQ eventually, although I don't know how much of that I could really endure.

Thinking Beyond Replacement

The new Lilith reveal when Vengeance was announced led to another stupid & frankly outdated thought: "why design a new look for a classic SMT demon that's still popular when the new is functionally identical to the old?"

This thought nevertheless got me curious, so i made the Qadistu quartet edits seen above. I've become pro-Doi Lilith for the following reasons:

Kaneko is super dead now that he left Atlus. It's time to move on for real. I'm especially talking to myself.

the palettes of Eisheth Zenunim, Agrat bat Mahlat, and Naamah aren't dissimilar to the Amemiya or Kaneko Liliths, so they would still look fairly cohesive even with the latter. But Lilith is still the leader of the Qadistu and her bubblegum pink hair makes her pop out among them.

However, I think it's undeniable that Doi designed the Qadistu as a unit, combining, as he says, "beauty and ugliness." All 4 have grotesque features and I particularly like Lilith's bony joint aberrations:

There's just a level of cohesion usually only a single artist can lend to such a related/thematic assemblage; I'm also pretty positive on Naamah; even if her purpose in the Qadistu might just be to breast boobily, she's a demon I've wanted in SMT for a long time and i think her design delivers.

I'm not as hot on Agrat bat Mahlat, she reminds me of Ranni for some reason; I just think the "dark witch" motif is a little derivative but at least she adds variety to the group. The most notable thing about her to me is that her red eyes make it look like she's been doing some heavy dabbing in the sweet leaf. Eisheth Zenunim I'm pretty neutral about.

Last point on accepting change, as sad as that sounds to say (but it totally is what's necessary):the 4 Qadistu are the wives of Samael, and so the new Lilith is still wrapped by a snake--a red snake, the same color Samael has always been in Kaneko's designs. While it seems a given Samael will be involved in the story eventually, it would also mean he will have a new design, and probably not a snake, or at least something more involved. I also imagine Lilith's snake having a role in cutscenes--further necessitating the need for an all-new design/model.

Also, i totally expect there to be some classic SMT comparative etymological conflation bullshit with Samael this time around, because "Samael" is one of the alternate names of Yaldabaoth. And oh yeah, Sophia is the mother of the demiurge and in vanilla she called herself a sacred prostitute:

So expect her involvement, too. I'm honestly pretty excited for Vengeance! It's coming out at a great time for me, I think it'll be doable for me one-handed,Doi's new designs I would put on a Kaneko quality scale of somewhere between SMT2 and Devil Summoner, and vanilla SMT5 was so low impact, the only place it can go now is up!

So the Cleopatra event has Arsinoe impersonate her sister and attempt to resurrect her brother-husband Ptolemy with the aid of the Egyptian Gods. Cleopatra was enraged she assumed she stole her power after her soul managed to enter the living world during the Osiris and Seth event, with Cleopatra deciding to pity her sister and give her some power to interact with the mortal world. So enraged by her sister then stealing her identity and acting like she tricked Cleo that Cleo helped Liberators.

Arsinoe had taken one of the male Liberators captive to be Ptolemys vessel, and Cleopatra spends the event pretending to be Horus since she knows he’s helped them before in the past.

honestly just impressed that the event is not soley about how cleopatra is depicted as a jessica rabbit grade bimbo in these games

The ingame “disease” mentioned in some old interviews has been reveal with the Previews of Vengeance: It turns out everyone including are getting Pillar’d of Salt! Dazai included!

checks out that this would work on dazai. you could probably trick him into staring at the sun more than once on the same day, so no way is he getting past god's classic salt bit
