OH ALSO about the blog change i talked about. im still not sure if I'll do it? but i think i will... maybe.

I'll probably keep the same url since it's still special to me (and make a bug sideblog in the new account) idk using more brazilian stuff in my blogs make me happy

also I'll probably stop posting about one or two fandoms for a few reasons but i'll list them later (if i move to a new blog)

my friend said i should Really Really watch dungeon meshi but i was like "oh yeah i think I'll watch it later..." (i take Way Too Long to check stuff because sometimes i only have The Energy ™ to rewatch stuff i already know)

but omg i shouldn't have waited so long. it's so good and as someone who actually studies about edible non-conventional plants, algae, invertebrates and stuff i find the whole experimental stuff in a fantasy setting so cool??

i won't give spoilers but there's some parts that im like "omg they actually read about irl animals to design this monster, right?" like when they mentioned that bivalve monster

okay this is going to sound incredibly fake but pls believe me okay? okay

so i was just helping with a little bug related presentation in a school. i was just supposed to hand the guests some papers with info on some bugs.

but then!! some kids showed up and the people who would do that part of the presentation weren't there yet. i asked the person who was responsible for that part of the event if i could just maybe 👉👈 talk just for a few seconds while they arrived... pls... AND SHE LET ME (she said it happens sometimes and it's okay, the team wouldn't be offended or anything)

so i channeled all my power as someone who's special interest is bugs and started Talking.

and like. im a Very Anxious Person. Talking to people frightens me™ but it was?? so?? fun???? they even had some materials about edible bugs and yall might have noticed that im very normal about eating them for science.

and?? i was afraid that the kids would be grossed out or just Not Interested. but they asked so many questions and some of them even asked if they could hold some of the live bugs!!! so i talked about how the groups are named!! and i didn't notice that more people were gathering around until i finished talking 😳

so anyways it was so fun..... is this a sign i should try teaching after i graduate..............

also update: i just realized that the way i worded the first post made it sound like The Big Bug was watching me and making me not talk about it but nah it's just that i dont want to let myself write a 100k words post about bugs

OKAY SO remember when i said that i had no luck finding the tanajura ants??? turns out it wasn't their day yet!

(for context tanajura is how we call the winged female leafcutter ants. they usually appear one(1) day every year. after that they lose their wings and become queens. also they smell kinda like honey)

i was studying for some finals and suddenly dad comes running to my room saying "HEY IT'S TANAJURA DAY"

so we leave the house at like. 5pm and return 7pm to get as many ants as we could. this time we used both of our strategies (he usually looks near the woods at the start of the event and i look near the street lamps when it's already dark)

unfortunately we couldn't find anyone else who was also looking for them :( i guess the tradition is really lost... sad.

a guy in a shop asked us to PLEASE take the huge ants out of his shop but 😭😭 those weren't the edible ones. he was so disappointed when i told him we couldn't help

and lastly... here's the dish i made: Farofa with fried tanajura ants — farofa is a Brazilian dish made with cassava flour and other tasty stuff. the ants are optional — and one of the ants (this wasn't even the largest one we found. they're HUGE

sob.................. some of my colleagues were talking about how they found SO MANY of the tanajuras 😭😭 i guess i wasn't so lucky

😭😭😭 i saw a couple of tanajura ants this morning and i was so hyped to get some of them because it's been AGES since i had some (it's a cultural food here) and they only appear like two days every year

so i walked outside at night with an empty bottle to get some (when i was a kid, there were so many of them that i could fill an entire 2L bottle. unfortunately they're a bit harder to find now that there's fewer trees and the climate is weird)

but i returned home empty-handed 🥺 I could only find one(1) but...... i kid you not. my dog ate it.

according to the older people in my family, it's a Bad Omen when few tanajura ants appear

(if you're curious they taste like popcorn when you fry them in butter btw. 10/10 would recommend)

i walked ti a place i used to go like 10 years ago to get one of my favorite fruits (widow's earring/java plum) but. i forgot that. Trees Grow. i used to be able to climb it almost effortlessly back in the old days...... now i can't even reach the lowest fruits 😭😭😭
